Audio Editing Program Unexpectedly Quits

I'm not sure where else to post this since the Mackie forums clearly don't get looked at frequently.
I did all the updates that apple has and I tried Mackie's Tracktion 3 and any time I open a project it unexpectedly crashes on me. and if I manage to get into an edit the second I touch a loop (even before adding it to the track) it also crashes.
I've been using Tracktion 2 with no problems at all. I was really excited to get T3 up and running and now, not so much.
Is there any kind of audio update I can do? I wasn't able to find one that worked for my iMac.
Mac OS X 10.6.4
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory
1 TB internal hard drive
Mackie Onyx satellite firewire audio interface
Tracktion version 2 and 3

  • 32 bit audio unit bridge unexpectingly quits

    I've just updated to Snow Leopard and I've been using Melodyne to fix vocals. When I used Melodyne on the first 3 vocals, everything in Logic was functioning fine but when I try to import the last vocal track into Melodyne, the 32 bit audio unit bridge unexpectingly quits. I've tried quiting and re-opening Logic and the same problem happens at the same spot. On the previous 3 vocal tracks that I fixed with Melodyne, I have already bounced those tracks in place and have got rid of the old tracks. So, the Melodyne plug in is only open on the last vocal track. It seems strange that my Melodyne plug in was working fine with the 32 bit audio unit bridge (as are all of my plug ins) until now.
    Any advice anyone?

    If you are running Logic in 64-bit mode with a variety of plugins, you're going to have to realise that things probably won't be stable until updates get released.
    The AU bridge is a workaround for the transition period, and one that many third-party developers haven't had much of an opportunity to test with their products, so you may well get funky behaviour in certain things.
    If you're really stuck, go back to 32-bit mode for your edits, and it's worth contacting the developer of your plugins to see what they say about AU Bridge and 64-bit compatibility.

  • All iWork programs unexpectedly quit

    I just bought iWork and installed it on my MacPro. I have Leopard. I cannot open any of the programs. I always get the "the program unexpectedly quit". I tried restarting. I trashed a trial iWork 06. What's the problem? What do I do?

    Bear 55,
    Did you reinstall iwork after installing leopard. It was suggested by Apple that we needed to reinstall iwork. If you did have you tried trashing the plist and restarting the application? You might also try repairing the permissions before restarting. These are all things that have helped others in the past.
    Good luck

  • All my programs unexpectedly quit

    What's going on?

  • Programs "Unexpectedly Quit"

    I was wondering if any knows why all my programs, escpecially my internet programs(Safari&Internet Explorer) are now always "unexpectedly quit". Just recently it has been happening, and when I try to go into my yahoo email account when im in Safari, while it is loading it just quits. I can go through any other part of the yahoo web site but not in the email. If I were to uninstall the programs would that help? I were to do that how would I go about doing that? Or is just something else? I need some help as soon as possible. I havent been able to get into my email account for about a week or two. I try to go through Internet Explorer but the account doesnt work well, and I cant respond to any emails I get. It says I need to get safari or firefox. Please help.

    Have you looked over the Knowledge Base article Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue?
    Especially if you've ever installed programs from HP, Adobe, or Quark, try running Disk Utility/ Repair Permissions on the hard drive.
    Try creating a new administrative use account and see if your programs will work then. If they do, try using Preferential Treatment to check the prefs in your real user account.
    Using command-F in the FInder (since 10.2.8 doesn't have Font Book), check to see if you have Times RO font installed and if so drag all copies of it to the Trash.

  • Audio MIDI SetUp unexpected quits

    HI,
    Does anyone has experienced unexpected quits with Audio MIDI SetUp by simply clicking on the icons of IAC Driver,Network, new external device, etc?
    This happens at random, some times it happens inmediately upon clicking(selecting)an item, most of the times nothing happens and everything is OK.
    For those of you who understand the crash report., I would like to thank any insight on this issue:
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, Diazruanova.
    1. You might try trashing the related preferences:• The file com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    • The file com.apple.MIDI.xxx.plist in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder, where xxx is an alphanumeric string2. I notice you have some Unsanity "haxies" installed. These often prove problematic. I suggest checking for updates, disabling them, or uninstalling them.
    3. An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    4. Immediately after the problem occurs, check the ends of these Console logs for clues, i.e. messages related to Audio Midi Setup other than the message indicating that it has written a crash report.
    Good luck!

  • Leopard programs unexpectedly quit

    Hi,
    i've recently installed Leopard and I've notice a lot of the programs regularly lock up and then unexpectedly quit. I'm also having to force quit a lot more as well. Is this just teething issues with Leopard.

    The apps I'm having issues with are quicktime 7.3.1, iTunes 7.5 and iPhoto 6.0.6
    Quicktime seems to lock up and unexpectedly quit when viewing some types of avi. Some play fine others just won't load and I get the beloved spinning ball of death. If I've got the drop down preview tab activated in Finder it crashes and locks up when ever I click on certain avi's. I've have to force it to relaunch.
    iPhoto - this seems so slow. I tried deleting 400 pictures from my library and it took 20 minutes maybe more. This may be the external hard drive. Its a 160gig firewire 400 Lacie drive. Been pretty good so far although it is rather full come to think of it.
    iTunes - my music is stored on a external drive and my iPod. When ever both are plugged in I can't unmount them. Then when I quit iTunes it just locks up and I have to force it to quit.
    It just feels to me that there are so many teething problems with Leopard much like when OS 10 first arrived. Tiger seemed so much more solid! But it looks amazing and time machine is a lifesaver!

  • Programs Unexpectedly Quiting

    When I go to view a WMV online sometimes Windows Media Player will not open and "unexpectedly quit." This also sometimes happens when I am installing a program that is not Apple software. It does not happen all the time but about 50%. What should I do? Thank You.
    Power Mac G%   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    You could try booting from your supplied system DVD and repairing the startup drive and permissions
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1018.html
    Repairing permissions before and after installing or updating Apple software is not universally accepted as essential.
    Repairing permissions before and after installing or updating Third-Party software is.
    Re-installing the 10.4.6 combo may help

  • Several Programs Unexpectedly Quit

    Several programs are unexpectedly quitting. For example, iPhoto quits when I try to email a photo, preferential treatment and cocktail both quit when I try to open them...I noticed the problems starting around the time I installed iTunes 6, but can't be sure there is a connection. I checked the iTunes forum, but most of those posts had to do with iTunes itself quitting, and I don't have that problem. I have tried disk repair, repaired permissions, installed more ram, and downloaded cocktail (I was able to start up with my other hard drive and run it) and cleared caches, repaired permissions, etc. I also tried moving a bunch of .plist files to the desktop. I also tried disabling my times fonts, and started up in safe mode. No luck. One of the geniuses at the store said that "bad ram" can cause problems. I am thinking of removing my old ram and seeing what happens (I recently added a 512mb chip). But it seems to be a problem with the system on my startup (160g) hard drive. At least cocktail worked on my other (30g) drive.

    Have you tried creating a new user account, then logging into that account to see if the problem persists. If the problem ceases then it's associated with corrupted fonts or preference files or caches or application support files.
    Also, look this article over for anything you may not yet have tried:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607542&#607542.
    If the problem is limited to Apple apps only (like iPhoto and iTunes) then you might read the following:

    (Likely suspects are TimesRO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly:
        • Go to Users/Your_Name/Library/Preferences and trash the files:
        - com.apple.ATS.plist
        - com.apple.BezelServices.plist
        Restart. If this did not help, go to Users/Your_Name/Library and drag the folder Preferences to the desktop. Restart and see if this solved the problem
        • Navigate to YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
        • Restart and test your applications.
        • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs."
    ** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
    You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
        • Navigate to yourhome/library.
        • Get Info (Command + i) on the "Applications Support" folder.
        • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
        • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
        • Click on "apply to all"
        • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folder names of the applications with which you are having trouble.
    Note:
    The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.

  • Programs Unexpectedly Quitting

    I have been having problems with programs such as Mail. Safari, and Microsoft Word unexpectedly quitting when i have been using them.
    Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did they do?

    Although this article is a little dated, most of the suggestions are still useful for helping to solve the problem:
    Apps unexpectedly quit.
    One thing you can try is to boot into safe mode to see if the problem ceases. Another is to create a new user account then log out of your account and log in to the new one to see if the problem ceases. If so then this points to a few areas - cache files, log files, third-party login item or startupitem or contextual menu item, preference file.
    A good start would be to repair your hard drive and permission:
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger and Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Strange audio editing programs

    Hi, I didn't see my problems already brought up so I am
    hoping someone can help.
    We are using Captivate to record narrated 'tours' of
    websites, with the narrators not being the editors (so it is
    difficult to get them to follow what should work best). We have had
    to work with continuous audio (3-5 minutes)- it could be divided
    into clips, but because of background and 'white noise' it sounds
    wrong if there is any pure silence. Also, they are often clicking
    on several things without slowing down their speech - this all
    means that timing is very important.
    I have not been using Captivate long but I am finding it very
    frustrating to edit the audio because of several issues. The
    computer is new and has little on it, and seems to run it all fine
    without RAM or virtual memory problems or slowdown. Because of
    timing adjustments I have been doing all this editing in the long,
    full-length waveform audio editor.
    1. I have no idea why, but bits of silence show up at some
    point while I'm editing (deleting some audio and moving slide
    markers), often in the middle of words. I don't think it's the
    issue of adding more space to the end of a slide to conserve
    minimum length, because it seems to occur in the middle of slides,
    but this could be confused by:
    2. After moving slide markers in an earlier portion of the
    slide, all the later slide markers have sometimes moved as well.
    This doesn't seem consistent but sometimes it makes everything
    quite off. This wouldn't really be a problem except it means I am
    only free to work beginning to end and not at whichever place I am
    ready for. I saw this mentioned in another topic and I am really
    hoping someone knows of a box I can tick to say "don't
    automatically move slide markers for any reason without asking me
    first" - it is maddening to make a change at slide 19 and have
    everything after that be off.
    3. Sometimes, when deleting the bits of silence, it will
    delete them with no problem. Sometimes though, Captivate refuses to
    delete them. It has nothing to do with slide length as I have
    tested in on slides that are much longer than their minimum. Saving
    what other changes I've made and coming back into the timing editor
    also doesn't seem to work, it still won't delete them. Sometimes if
    I highlight a larger area around them, it will delete part of the
    larger area, but not usually the silent part. I have had to go into
    the original files and mess with exporting/importing/re-editing the
    bit of audio to get what I wanted in some cases.
    4. Sometimes, when deleting a big of silence, in addition to
    not deleting it, it moves my slide markers off by as much as 40
    seconds. Say I am deleting a bit of mysterious-origin silence in
    slide 39. After I highlight it and click X, the markers for slides
    29 and 30 jump into view and slide 39 is way down at the end of the
    presentation. There have been a few times I didn't catch this
    before I clicked 'ok' and having to re-time everything because of
    it is infuriating.
    5. 1 in 7 or 8 times I edit audio, and click OK, it doesn't
    save any of my changes. I don't get the 'rebuilding mp3s' screen
    and all my changes are lost. Also maddening. There doesn't seem to
    be a pattern as far as what changes I've made, how long the program
    has been open, what other things might be running on the computer,
    etc. It just does it sometimes.
    These may not all be exactly what's happening, as I had a
    hard time troubleshooting them - if I am looking at a portion of
    the timeline and changes are happening elsewhere I don't know
    about, they are hard to catch. I only could tell that every time I
    made changes, I had to make other changes because of it, some of
    them worse than others. I hope someone can tell me what is going on
    and why Captivate seems to be acting so bizarrely for me.

    I'd be interested to hear the sort of background noise you
    are experiencing. It might be possible to remove this using
    Adobe Audition
    as for silence or dead air, you could get around this by removing
    the silence at the beginning of your audio files and moving the
    sound object on the Timeline to 0.5 sec marker.
    Voice-over is an art form that can take a long time to
    perfect. One thing I would suggest is that you provide your
    narrators with a script and make sure they rehearse it before
    recording the narrative. This can go a long way to prevent the sort
    of problems you have listed in your post.
    quote:
    At any rate it is impossible at this point for us to build the
    presentations with individual sound clips - because of background
    noise, any silence or dead air (like at the beginning of slides)
    makes it sound really terrible. We also have inexperienced
    narrators who aren't slowing down to click, and who aren't at hand
    to re-record content. We need to go in and edit out the 'ums' and
    'I meant to says' as well as fix the timing on some slides (and
    rebuild backgrounds it didn't capture during recording). I'd edit
    audio within each slide rather than in the audio timing editor but
    that creates silence problems, etc.
    HTH

  • Program unexpectedly quits when trying to open webpages in NSTabView

    HI,
    I want to open multiple web pages inside NSTabview. I am using WebView from the WebKit framework as the view in each Tab of the NSTabView.
    The program creates the tab, partially opens the website and quits unexpectedly. The website I am using to test is http://www.yahoo.com/ (it bombs for yahoo, but google works). Any idea?
    I also checked my internet connection and it is okay. I checked my NSTabView outlet and it is not nil.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Here is the code that I am using to create a WebView and add it onto the NSTabView
    // IBOutlet NSTabView * tabbedWebView;
    int i =0;
    NSRect frame = [tabbedWebView frame];
    frame.origin.x =0; frame.origin.y = 0;
    for (i=0; i<1; i++){
    NSTabViewItem * webPageTabItem;
    WebView * webView;
    // initializes and loads the webView
    webView = [ [WebView alloc] initWithFrame:frame
    frameName:nil
    groupName:nil
    /* the program ends if the website is set to http://www.yahoo.com
    * but works okay if website is set to http://www.google.com
    [ webView setMainFrameURL:@"http://www.yahoo.com/" ];
    // create the tab item where the view can be inserted
    webPageTabItem = [ [NSTabViewItem alloc] initWithIdentifier: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",i] ];
    // sets webView as the view in the tab Item
    [webPageTabItem setView:webView];
    [webPageTabItem setLabel:@"http://www.yahoo.com/" ];
    // adds the tab item into the tabbed view
    // tabbedWebView is an outlet
    [tabbedWebView addTabViewItem:webPageTabItem];
    }

    I can't say I've come across that before, but it definitely sounds like some kind of problem interacting between Safari and Adobe...
    What you may want to do is just right click the PDF links and select the save link as option, so that you can save the PDF directly to some spot on your computer, and then open them afterward. That way the PDF won't even try to load up inside Safari, and whatever unfriendliness there is between your PDF reader and Safari should be a non-issue.

  • Many Programs Unexpectedly Quit.

    Hey, a few weeks ago or so various programs just started quitting upon launch or soon after.
    -Mail
    -Safari
    -Software Update
    -Time Machine
    They all quit after I try to run them. Also, I can't turn my computer off using the GUI. I click the apple, and then shut down. All the applications quit, but nothing after that happens. It just… keeps on running. So I have to press and hold the button in the back every time I have to turn it off. I have an external harddrive, so I COULD reinstall leopard, but the thing is, whenever it is reinstalled or updated, the internet doesn't work for two weeks, so that is a last resort.
    Thanks

    Erg, it didn't help. And I don't know where the harddrive checker is, and the install DVD is freezing when it examines the drives plugged in when I try to go to Additional Installations... Unless it's somewhere else on the DVD, I can't access it.
    The hardware test is on the "Software Restore" disc that came in the box with your Mac.
    It definitely sounds like you've got hardware issues, either with your system or with your drive(s).
    With the randomness you seem to be suffering, I'm guessing hard drive or bad RAM.
    Can you post the crash log from one of your apps that's died? You'll find them in your Library/Logs/CrashReporter directory.

  • When I try to print from Illustrator CS3 the program unexpectedly quits. I don't get anything happening other than the spinning ball and the quit message.

    Is this because the application is so outdated?

    Thanks for your help Monika. Yes, the printer is is supported by the system. The printer is about 2 months old and the driver were installed then. I called Canon support and they said it sounded like a problem with Illustrator. I can print the same file by saving it as a pdf and printing from Acrobat Pro, so it seems to be a problem with Illustrator. If I try to print the pdf from Illustrator it will quit.
