Audio in headphones sounds like garbage

I am trying to record a simple voice track using a M-Audio MobilePRE USB preamp for my mic as well as my headphones.  The audio in the headphones sounds really bad like there's a latency or echo.  Any ideas on how to clean this up?

Is the unit mixing open mic audio from the MobilePRE with the the playback audio input from your Mac?  If so, adjust that mix setting so you're getting computer audio only. If not, have you tried just plugging the headphones direct to the MacPro ie to make sure everything is ok from the timeline and confirm the issue is from the MobilePRE.
Hope it helps
Andy

  • Audio Speeds up, sounds like chipmonks

I can record a great presentation and when
previewing or publishing, the audio track speeds up and sounds like
the Chipmonks for the rest of the presentation. Tried on different
machines with different mich's and had the same problem.

I had this problem myself, had something to do with the rate
at which the audio was recorded if i remember rightly.
Are you recording this audio externally from Captivate and
    then importing?

  • Import of Brand New CD:  Took FOREVER & sounds like GARBAGE

Here's a first for me... A friend bought us a brand new CD as a gift. I played the CD 1 time in our 5 disk changer at home, played it 1 time in the car. After each play, I placed it in the CD case after each time. Not thinking it's a scratched issue.
Took it up to our brand new iMac to import into iTunes... Much to my surprise, it was showing a 0.2x or 0.5x taking over 2 hours to import the entire 10 song cd into iTunes.
Several, if not all of the songs sound like trash. They play perfectly fine, but have "skips" in them.
What on earth could make a CD import go so wrong on a brand new disk?
Earlier this weekend, I imported about 3 of my old CD's that have been abused and they all imported just fine so I'm not thinking it's the drive in our iMac.
    Any thoughts?

Checked the CD, it was fine. Tried to re-insert it into the iMac. The iMac takes the CD in holds it for a few seconds, then spits it back out.
I tried this CD in my work HP laptop w/ iTunes and it imported fine.
At this point, I will chawk this up to an unusual instance. I sure hope that future CD's work in the Mac!
    Thx,
    Brent

  • Beats audio wireless headphones sound delay?

Is there anything I can do to stop the sound delay between my iPad (running ios 7.04) when watching videos? I have bought a set of beats audio wireless head phones but when watch live or downloaded videos there is a delay between the picture and the sound which makes watching anything annoying.

Nice extensive research on reseting Beats Audio on the HP laptops.
Just bought the Envy 17t-3000 and I updated all the drivers via HP Support Manager.
BEFORE the update, the Beats Audio worked well..
    1. Press the dial and the popup box comes up ~3 secs
    2. Volume indicator swirl appeared to show volume level
AFTER the update, something changed the Beats Audio... had to re-install the latest driver from HP website (even after contacting HP Tech support via chat and email several times)...
    1. Press the dial and the popup box comes up ~10-12 secs now!
    2. Volume indicator swirl DISAPPEARED so volume level indicator is GONE
Sure the sound works but NOW I do NOT know or remember the volume level whenever I listen to music.
You can barely tell on the Windows Speaker icon on Icon bar since 2 sound waves indicate at least 50% sound level but that's it!
I have the following softwares and checked their settings and set them all at 50% and use the Beats Audio dial to control the volume whenever the programs are used:
    1. WinAmp
    2. VLC player
    3. MPC
    4. WMP
No matter what I try, it appears that the Beats Audio Volume Control Swirl Indicator is GONE! Worse, there's NO Windows volume control indicator unless leave the Volume Mixer open!
Anyone know how to fix this problem and bring Back the Audio Beats volume indicator??
    Thanks!

  • Audio output using Logitech Clearchat Pro USB headset sounds like chipmunks

I use a Logitech Clearchat USB headset for online meetings daily. On my previous machine (Black MacBook 2GHz) the headphones and mic worked fine. I just upgraded to a new 2.66 Unibody MacBook Pro and while the microphone works fine but the audio in the headphones sounds like chipmunks. If I switch the audio output to the speakers, the audio sounds fine.
Logitech claims that since the drivers the headphones use are built-in, it's not their issue. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this problem and how I might be able to get it resolved.
    Thanks.

' orangehat I sincerely hope you (we?) get an answer on this one! I ordered exactly the same headset the same time I did my 17-inch MBP. Still waiting for everything to be delivered - so can't say as yet whether I have the problem too. Hoping not.
' Hoping there's an answer to your question anyways so I can get an idea of things before my kit lands (IF that EVER actually HAPPENS!!!)

  • Headphone audio sounds like it's coming out of a hole?

Two days ago, I downloaded a radio app to my 2nd gen iPod touch. Sounded fine for a while, then suddenly faded. I could hear the music just fine, but the voices were so quiet I could barely hear them. I switched over to regular music and it did the same thing. I fiddled around with my headphones, thinking they were dying, and got it to work by pressing the jack into my ipod hard, putting pressure on it. I figured it was just old headphones and went and bought another pair.
But it's still doing it. Brand new headphones and they only work when I put a crushing pressure onto the jack. What's going on here?

I can't be sure, but it sounds like you have a bad contact in your headphone port. I would take it to an Apple Store to get a new one or call AppleCare to have it replaced.

  • Edit to tape audio promlem - sounds like "chorus" effect

I have tried to Edit to Tape an HDV Sequence, down converted to SD, to a Digibeta deck.
When I monitor (headphone out of digibeta deck) while recording it sounds normal. When I rewind and check tape it sounds like the audio is "doubled up", almost like a very short chorus effect is on the audio. as well as this I can hear what sounds like tape crackle now and again.
However - when I do a straight crash record from the timeline - the audio plays back fine, no crackle.
So thinking it was an edit to tape settings problem i clicked on the audio button in the edit to tape window and notice audio was set to ALL ON. I changed this to A1 and A2 on, thinking that my extra audio tracks (which I had disabled, these where the original audio, not the OMF exported stereo mix) were somehow going down the SDI anyway...
No luck - did the edit to tape again and still sounded the same.
My heart rate has returned to normal now as the network kindly will accept the crash record with non standard timecode - but I of course still want to find out the problem so this doesn't happen again next week....
The Sequence was HDV 1080i, via a Decklink HD Extreme Capture Card, set to down convert to anamorphic 16:9. Sony Digibeta DVW-A500P deck.
Anyone know what the problem could be?
    thanks
    Hugh

for the benefit of anyone who searches for forum for a similar problem - it appears to have been a sync issue. changing "out ref" to "input video" appears to have fixed it.

  • Audio export sounds like its in a tin cup

I have exported my project multiple times with different settings but each results in sounding like its in a tin cup, or sounds like its from  a cheap cell phone.  I imported the audio into audition and exported it to my desktop and it sounded fine but if I use premire it ruins the audio.  It just started doing this in the past few days and I haven't changed anything that I am aware of. Please any help would be great as this is for my employment!

The audio like you mentioned "sounds like it's from a cheap cell phone" only happens when you cut out the top end and low end frequencies, which clearly looks like a work of an EQ (or any other similar) plugin. Are you sure you heard the exported audio on your desktop and it sounded normal? If yes, then make sure the audio track in premiere doesn't have any effects on it. Also make sure your audio jack's inserted properly. Also listen to something else and see how that sounds just to make sure your speakers/headphones didn't snap.

  • How to turn the surround-sound-like effect off with headphones?

When I plug in the headphones into my ipad I notice the sound in the headphones becomes kinda surround-like. For instance I clearly hear keyboard clicks "at a distance" in front of me when using headphones. This "effect" is nice for keyboard clicks but totally ruins any music listening experience because any song gets distorted and is perceived at some distance when played. This becomes extremely annoying when listening to mono content. The special sound processing applied to get this surrround-like sound effect adds artefacts into the sound, please let me know how to turn this off Apple, I couldn't find any option in the settings.
Overall, I couldn't even imagine I'd get such an annoying and unprofessional effect applied by default without a possibility to turn it off. If I knew that in advance I'd never buy my ipad since currently it's not possible to listen to music with it
    Message was edited by: vvtrus

vvtrus, did you ever consider that turning off the clicks or other sounds might have an effect? So, before telling people who want to help you that an answer makes no sense to you, you might first try it.
Since hearing and listening to music is a very subjective matter which also depends on the quality of the headphones you use, it might be the case that you hear on your iPod something that you couldn't hear on your laptop and portable music player (both of non-apple design). Then you should blame those other devices to deliver you such poor sound. On the other hand, you might have a better hearing than other people which might give you the impression of surround-sound-like effects -- in which case we can't help you either.
Anyway, there are no settings to turn on or off "surround sound effects".

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

8-doing a factory reset, then repeating steps 1 through 6
Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?

  • IMovie 10 - audio sounds like it's underwater

Just upgraded to iMovie 10 from 2011 version (iMovie 10 is not in the product list yet, so I'm posting here in hopes of getting some help). I like most of the new iMovie, but having a terrible time with audio after export. When I go to SHARE > TO DISK or ITUNES, the output file sounds like it's underwater or in t a tin can maybe . Hopfully it's a simple fix that I haven't stumbled on yet, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue and how to fix it. The sound is correct when played in iMovie 10. Thanks, Kevin
My CPU specs if that's helpful:
    - OSX 10.9
    - 2.8 GHz intel Core i7
    - 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I've just discovered this issue, too.  Using m4v file created using handbrake from a DV AVI file.  Audio sounds fine if video is played in VLC, but sound awful in iMovie sounding like there's a strange echo type issue.
    cheers
