Audio in SCORM course

I have a problem with a flashmovie, the audio in the original wmvfile, is so loud, that I edit the file in iMovie before I convert the file in to FLV, so the file is compatible with Captivate.
When I preview my .flv in Captivate, the audio sounds OK, not loud at all.
When I publish the course as SCORM, the audio is just as loud as it was in the beginning.
Somebody knows what to do?

1st thing you need to do is ensure LMSFinish is not being called by the content. iLearning will call it for you when a learner exits a course or switches RCOs within a course.
2nd thing is regarding initialization. The following javascript function can be used on the page to check to see if the LMS communication has been initialized. This function could be called first when a page loads, or when the page is reloaded based on the outline being opened/clased.
If the function returns true (LMS is still initialized, which would be the case if the learner was in the content and opened/closed the outline), it could call other functions to get and set values as necessary.
If the function returns false (which would be the case when the learner first launches the player, it could then call LMSInitialize to intialize communication and continue on.
Note this comes from the sample APIWrapper.js file provided by the ADL.
** Function LMSIsInitialized()
** Inputs: none
** Return: true if the LMS API is currently initialized, otherwise false
** Description:
** Determines if the LMS API is currently initialized or not.
function LMSIsInitialized() {
// there is no direct method for determining if the LMS API is initialized
// for example an LMSIsInitialized function defined on the API so we'll try
// a simple LMSGetValue and trap for the LMS Not Initialized Error
var api = getAPIHandle();
if (api == null) {
alert("Unable to locate the LMS's API Implementation. LMSIsInitialized() failed.");
return false;
else {
var value = api.LMSGetValue("cmi.core.student_name");
var errCode = api.LMSGetLastError().toString();
if (errCode == _NotInitialized) {
return false;
else {
return true;
}

  • Presenter SCORM courses not scoring correctly in Firefox

    We are having an issue with SCORM courses created in Presenter not communicating back the correct quiz score when using the new version of Firefox. These courses worked properly in the older version of Firefox. I can provide the course if needed. The courses were created in Presenter 7.0.5.7588. Tried creating the course in version 10 but it still didn't work.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your reply.  I have tried changing the reporting options to score vs. percentage and that doesn't work either.  My LMS is Mzinga (Knowledge Planet).   Below are screen shots of my settings.
    How do I get the "Mastery Score" section of the Manifest settings to be available (mine is grayed out)?  I read something about this on one of the disscussion forms but can't fibgure out what I'm missing to make it available.  Could this setting have something to do with my issue?

  • Error when launching a SCORM course in LMS

    I've been publishing SCORM courses from Captivate to my LMS (Training Partner) for several years without any problems.  I recently upgraded to CP 6 (6.0.1.240) and now when I launch the module from my LMS I get a message that says:
    Does anyone have an idea as to what might cause this?
    Thanks for your help!!

    I have Training Partner (Geometrix) LMS installed - been using this one for over four years.
    My workflow is:
    1. Publish Captivate module to a folder with SCORM reporting enabled
    2. Copy the published folder to the LMS content web server
    3. Create course in LMS configured for SCORM reporting
    4. Link for course module points to the .htm file in the course folder
    I've used this approach without any issues up until I installed CP6.  Now I get the error message on modules published with SCORM reporting enabled.  The message does not appear when LMS reporting is not selected.

  • Captivate SCORM Course Restart in LMS

    How can i restart a SCORM Course from LMS(ie, the course should not use the previous play information)?
    I have tried this by setting the "lessonlocation" to "zero" but it is not working.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rahul R

    If you're talking about the Resume Data bookmarking the position that the participant got up to in their last session then you can go into Quiz Settings > LMS Customization and check the box for Never Send Resume Data to turn off the bookmarking.
    Check also if TOC settings has Self-paced Learning turned on.  That can also cause bookmarking.
    If you're talking about the scoring recorded in the LMS, that's not something controlled by the SCORM.  You'd have to play with the LMS settings that determine how new attempts on a course module are dealt with by the LMS.

  • Scorm Course - imsmanifest.xml

    Hello Experts,
    I am trying to import a SCORM Course into the Authoring Environment. The folder contains detials related to various pages and tests attached to the course.
    My problem here is, the imsmanifest.xml file contains reference - Resource to only one page called Start.html
    According to our client, the course contains 2 modules of course and tests attached to the course itself.
    But after uploading the course in Authoring Environment, these is only one instructional elemnt containing start.html as the content and after running in the content player, the course displays only one page of titles.
    I think, the imsmanifestxml file gives resource only as start.html and that is why am not able to view the whole course.
    Could you tell me what could be the problem?
    and also if anybody can clarify what excatly needs to be present in the imsmanifest.xml file, and how it works, that would be of great help.

  • SCORM Course Score and Progress

    How can we take the score and progress (of the SCORM Course created by Adobe Captivate 5.5) seperately when the user finish the play ?

    You can calculate or read course module scoring information from System Variables in Captivate.  Look at the cpQuizInfo set of variables.  For example, cpQuizInfoPointsScored
    If you also want the know the percentage of slides viewed, or number of quiz questions answered/unanswered, then sometimes you can also get this from the existing variables, but other times you may need to set up your own User Variables and increment them with Advanced Actions as the user progresses through the modules.
    In any case, this type of thing CAN be done in Captivate.  But you need to set it up yourself.

  • Is there any way to create a transcript document of the audio within a course?

    I have a course that someone else created that contains audio and would like to know if there is any way to create a "storyboard" of the audio so the SMEs can edit it instead of sending an EXE file for review or having to recreate the transcrip from scratch.

    I generally just have the transcript for my voiceover audio in the Slide Notes field for each slide, and then output my project to a Word document handout, making sure to select the option for slide objects and slide notes.  That creates a PPT-like handout that is easy to email to approvers.  They can see the transcript notes underneath each slide graphic.

  • UPK SCORM Courses in an LMS

    Hi all,
    I'm an LMS admin, and have received UPK generated SCORM files. I'm disappointed to not see a zip file option during publishing in the UPK, but I zipped it myself and successfully uploaded it.
    My question - how do I get the GUI and navigation for the course up there? The course is functioning fine in the system (tracking, etc.), but the LMS' SCORM navigation is shown, not the customized GUI the developers created.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
    Do you have a screen short or two that illustrate this?
    You are welcome to mail them to me, as I don't think you can attach them in this forum ([email protected]).

  • LSO: Tracking Course progress for SCORM Courses

    How does SAP track progress/placeholders for SCORM-enabled published Captivate projects, that is, if a learner stops playing content part way through, is the learner placed back where they left off when they return?

    Hi Harshal,
    I'm not a Captivate super-user nor a content expert, but it's always important to ensure that the publishing settings are refined to pass the data that is important to the customer (it sounds like you need 'location' in this instance) and that the settings align with the instructional intent of the content.  In other words, help them determine what data they need for functionality and reporting and publish the content to reflect that - not less and also not more, to ensure the optimal amount of data is passed to the LMS.
    Good luck,
    Sharon

  • Another SCORM prob: courses don't always register as 'Complete'

    I have a problem with SCORM courses not registering as 'Complete' on our LMS. I know that I'm in good company here; I've scoured the forums for a solution to my problem and I've found plenty of other content authors struggling with similar issues. I've put a few of the solutions to the test, with fingers crossed, but I'm still stuck. I think I have a unique flavour of this popular problem.
    We're using Captivate 4 to build courses for our Cornerstone OnDemand Business Edition LMS. We've had our LMS live for just over a month, and the majority of the 500 employees of my organization have been into the system, racking up 3200 completed courses. Our learners are using either Firefox or IE, and are split between Macs and Windows boxes.
    About 5% of the time, though, our users complain of a phenomenon where they get "locked" at the last slide and the course stays stuck 'in progress'. For weeks I hadn't been able to reproduce the problem myself, but after 10+ runs through a course on various machines I finally witnessed it, and I'm certain it's not user error.
    Originally we had our SCORM preferences set up to measure slide views, but in the process of trying to eliminate this problem I redesigned the courses to measure things a little bit differently: now we're assigning one quiz point to every click box that our learners must click to advance to the next slide, and I stripped out the navigation buttons from the Flash skin.
    Report status: pass/fail
    Report to LMS as: score
    Choose report data: Quiz results only
    Reporting Level: Interactions and score
    Pass fail options: 80%
    If failing grade: infinate attempts
    LMS customization settings: Escape version and session ID checked
    When I look at the details for courses that get stuck in this limbo, zero points are recorded, even though the user clicked through every slide and got checkmarks on all chapters. With the old percentage-viewed setup, the details would report 0% viewed. The problem persists even if the user relaunches the course and moves through every slide again. The only way to get people out of "in progress" limbo is to manually override the completion status as an LMS admin.
    This problem seems to be tied to the phenomenon where the last slide "freezes" and where the X button on the nav bar, and the close button for the window become unresponsive. When it happened to me the window finally closed after repeated clicks of the window's close button.
    So what's the deal? This seems to happen to courses that are set to "stop" at the end, and courses that have auto-close enabled. Is this a problem with the javascript that executes the close command? Is it actually a SCORM thing after all? Did I make a wizard angry at me in a past life, and I am stuck with a curse for the rest of my days?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
    Not using the same LMS, thus... But by trial and error mostly I get to have SCORM-assessments working: learned never to use 'Pass/Fail' but always 'Complete/Incomplete'. Why: even if the user has a freezing last slide (which happens sometimes here too), the score is passed to the LMS except perhaps the score of the last slide. So I take care not to have anything scored on this last slide. It is not really a complete solutions but in 99% of the cases everything works as I want it to work, so keep my fingers crossed.

  • Audio fading in when course is on LMS

    The audio for a course fades in at the beginning of each slide when course is mounted on an LMS.  When Previewing the course on my computer, the audio plays normally and there is no fade.
    The course is a Cp 8 Responsive Project.
    Anyone ever seen/heard this before?
    Thanks in advance.

    Solved it.  I was testing the course and clicking on the next button before the audio had finished playing.  When I let it play all the way through, the fading problem went away.
    Haste makes waste.

  • I have an audio bandwidth/download issue...

    Hi all,
    My company maybe getting the go ahead to create many (16ish) captivate scorm courses. All of which are fully narrated. I have previously had issues with the audio, but I now have a brand new one!
    The issue people had with my previous narrated course that it took too long to download. Now i have run some tests on this same course but with a preloader on to 20% based on advice people have been given on this forum. It doesn't seem to have made a difference as the preloader flashes up very shortly and then disapears, to be replaced by "Initializing LMS...". This stays on the screen for a while (about the time to download the whole thing).
    Can someone tell me a) Why does the preloader disappear? b) Why does it not appear to have any obvious effect on the download time (could it be our scorm server)? c) Is is possible to change the message "Initializing LMS..." or is that my scorm server as well?
    Any help greatfully received.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi,
    I am assuming many of your Captivate slides has audio and the audo files are continues. That is, they cover the entire duration of slide. If that is the case, here's a tip  -
    Example -
    You have project of 3 slides of 5 secs each. Every slide has audio file of 5 secs each. Hence the entire project is covered with audio file.
    Tip -
    In slide 2, try to begin the audio file a fraction of a second after the slide appears. Thus, once slide2 appears, let the slide 2 audio start after 0.2 secs. Try the same with slide3.
    Now run your project and check if it starts playing at 20%

  • Captivate 4/SCORM/LMS

    Adobe E-Learning Suite CS4 w/
    Captivate 4
    Flash CS4
    etc...
    I'm pretty sure everyone looking at that subject is sighing and rolling the eyes. lol.
    In any event I really need some help, as soon as possible.
    Let's go with that I have NO experience with SCORM compliance or LMS.
    I had created a Software Simulation CBT, basically used for employees to learn how to use an application that my client uses.
    I had originally done this all in one, and it ended up being around 150 slided.
    The opening slide has a 16 second Flash produce introduction with 16 second audio.
    Only other audio is produced from clicking the "Next" button
    Only other Flash is from FMR demonstrating the software (very minimal)
    It seemed that publishing such a large file produced very inconsistant files - sometimes very buggy in sections - back button not working properly, getting stuck on quiz slides, etc.
    So I broke up the large file in 8 separate files. Intro, Modules 1 - 6, Conclusion.
    Now... Here comes my next problem. I set up all the SCORM/Quiz reporting.  Each of the modules has a quiz associated with it for reporting. Intro and Conclusion have reporting on the last "NEXT" button.
    What I am asked from our client, is that the employee will log onto the LMS - click on the Course Name - and it will launch the intro.  Now to the user, the rest of the course should be seamless.  It's for the most part (except for one section in Module 1) completely linear.  When the user gets to the last slide of the Intro section, when they click next it should go to the first slide of Module 1.  It should have the built in TOC that I built in the flash files.  I did all the SCORM 2004 reporting options, manifest file, etc.  I used the SCORM Packager provided (the aggregator) and sucessfully created a .ZIP to upload to the LMS.
    I downloaded Moodle, full package, to use as a sandbox LMS on my local system.
    When I upload the .zip file produced from the SCORM packager, and run it in the LMS the TOC does not show all of the modules.
    Also, when I get to the last slide of Intro and click "NEXT" it just goes to a blank screen.
    How do I make this a seamless transaction with proper LMS reporting - which is NOT pass/fail it's just completion.
    Anybody still reading yet??
    Please let me know if you need anymore information, it's very vital that I get this figured out by this weekend as our client is requesting a final product by Monday/Tuesday.  I really really appreciate any help that can be provided, thank you all very much in advance.
    I fear I may be in over my head here...  which is not an option.

    Imagine that a SCORM course is a book. This book has separate chapters - each chapter is a SCO. If you have a SCORM course that consists of 7 SCO's you would still only have one course in the LMS. Depending on how the SCORM communication is set up YOU define how the course should work.
    Example of a SCORM manifest (NOT correct - only an example)
    Title: Course title
    SCO1: Chapter 1 - Introduction - introduction.html (the HTML files which has the apiwrapper and loads your swf)
    SCO2: Chapter title - resource link
    SCO3: Chapter title - resource link
    Okay, so I guess my question is this then.  Is it MY responsibility as the programmer to link the SCOs together within Captivate? or is that done within the SCORM manifest? Or does the LMS handle this?
    I would say that it is your responsibility. The programmer / developer would need to put in the SCORM calls in the chapters/SCO's for it to work. This cannot be done afterwards.
    In other words, lol, does the next button on the last slide of each module have to "Open File/URL" or can it simply say "Continue" as it does now and the LMS, via the manifest, will know to open the next module and start that slide annnnd will it report as one final score?? That's the other thing, I would like it to report one score for the overall course (it's actually not a score, it's just a complete/incomplete)
    No you would need to do two things at the end of each module.
    1 - Set the particular module as "Completed" in the LMS by using a SCORM command
    2 - Close the particular module in the LMS by using a SCORM command.
    Once these two are done then the LMS will unload the current module and automatically fetch the next module in the SCORM manifest and run that.
    If you are only interested in reporting complete/incomplete then this is enough. Just call the SCORM commands to set each module as completed and then the SCORM command to unload the module. Once they go through the last module all is completed and the course is "passed".
    As for the TOC I am a bit confused.
    Do you have a TOC for each of the modules created in Captivate? If so then this will work just fine in an LMS.
    If you have a TOC using the Aggregator then you would of course need to use Captivate to make the SCORM package. Another option could be to check if the LMS has a "TOC" of it's own. Many LMS' build their own TOC based on the SCORM imsmanifest.
    One suggestion I have for you.. Make a testfile for your client. This file should basically be what you tried to upload to Moodle first. Completely done in Captivate and Aggregator. Then ask them to load this in their LMS and see if they encounter any problems first. As I said Moodle isn't the best choice for troubleshooting LMS / SCORM issues ;o) Perhaps everything works perfectly well in their corporate LMS.

  • How can I match sound quality between video clips and audio clips?

    Hi guys,
    First of all let me say that I enjoy using the latest Media Encoder. However, as a novice, I have two related problems.
    1.I am recording video to use with PowerPoint slides in Adobe Captivate. I am encoding the video with best quality FLV. This produces very good video,
          but with a degraded audio track, even though I had filtered the audio in soundbooth. The post encoding sounds like it did before Soundbooth corrections.
    2. Some of the video recording has been set cut into audio clips to be used as background narration behind PowerPoint. The logic behind this is: that if both are
          recorded at the same time, the voice quality should match.
    This is far from the outcome. I have tried MP3 for the audio which of course produced the best sound- but is entirely unlike the rest of the video. I have also encoded the audio with Windows Waveform preset figuring that since the soundbooth edit was a .wav file, that there should be a reasonable match. Wrong again!
    So, the audio quality of all clips is poor, and the difference between the encoded video clips, and the audio encoded clips spoils the otherwise professional result in Captivate.
    Please help, all of you experts.

    Thank you.
    OS Windows 7 x 64; 3.2 MHz; 2 TB; 12 GB Ram-9GB ram allocated to Adobe.
    My process is this:
    1. The whole video and audio narration material is shot in one continuous video sesseion.
    2. The microphone is only mono, but the camera is set to stereo. Noone can work out how to change the camera to mono.
    3. In Premiere Pro 5, I select render and replace in SoundBooth.
    4. In Soundbooth, I choose Add Multichannels.
    5. In Multichannels, I delete the unwanted noisy channel, and any other unused channels.
    6. With the remaining mono channel, I then select Export and Save As option, then Stereo.
    7. Next I edit the stereo channels as needed.
    8. The imported stereo won't automatically update in Premiere Pro, so in PPR I import the new edited stereo track.
    9. I test this track in PPR, to check that it is playing R & L channels. It is. OK.
    10 On the timeline, I proceed to cut apart this single stereo wavelength .
    11.These clips are saved as Video, or Audio subclips.
    12 From the video subclips, I export to Media Encoder, and choose either FLV4 match attributes (High Q). This I modify to custom 2 pass (Custom save).
         The summary says that this is saved to MP3 Stereo.
    13. I import this into Captivate 5, but the Video outcome is Left channel only. I have tested this on Media Player/Real Player where it is also L channel only.
    14. I export my Audio subclips to Media player, and select MP3 option and this summary also reports stereo. The Audio outcome is stereo, when played in any player and in Captivate 5.
    I cannot understand how a single, continuous track edited uniformly in Soundbooth to stereo, can produce different outcomes in Media player.
    I would so appreciate a solution to this problem, because, in the Captivate 5 e-learning production, the switch between stereo audio (behind PowerPoints), and l. channel video is distracting. Naturally, the l. channel only is a thin sound. It is as if it had never been edited in SoundBooth at all.

  • How do I remove audio special effects, to go back to the original audio?

    I added some audioFX (from imovie library) to my clip. The chipmunk voice fx. But, I want to remove portions of it. The Help menu tells me to select the portions I want and press delete. When i do that, I lose all my audio. How do I just select the FX and delete that.
    I tried doing a search but couldn't find this specific answer.
    Thanks

    Was the Help reference you found specifically for audio FX, or was it for editing video clips? It sounds like it might have been for video clips. Although iMovie lets us select frames of a video clip in the monitor and remove them, there's no such command for editing audio. We can't use the monitor to remove the MIDDLE of an audio clip, for example.
    That doesn't mean you can't accomplish your goal, however. iMovie lets us do direct trimming of an audio clip, just like it does a video clip. It lets us shorten the audio from either end.
    We can't use direct trimming on the MIDDLE of an audio clip, of course, unless we first split the audio clip. Then we can use direct trimming to control playback of BOTH resultant clips. That lets us control the middle too.
    So as Matthew suggested, we can control the volume of portions of an audio clip, or split the audio clip and use direct trimming to control which sections to play.
    Note: if you're fiddling with the audio volume, be sure to UNcheck the menu command View > Show Clip Volume Levels. Until you do, you can't do direct trimming of the audio clip.
