new zealand, i've toured there a coupla times early in my career as a guitarist/MD. nice place, but like australia the population is to small to support a big music industry. that's way a lot of our talent goes overseas eg: rohan s on this board. nz people were very friendly but a lot of 'em come here because there's little work there.
these days i release my music thru cdbaby hence itunes. it works and is very flattering when people from other countries like and buy your music without all the hype made by record companies.
to tell you the truth, i'm not that into computers at all, what attacted me to post here were some of the other posters who were very hospitible towards me.
my field is really just audio recording in general and music composition/orchestration.
if i had huge money, i'd probably invest in Neves, Studers etc as i still feel they have the drop on digital audio. the most appealing thing to me with a DAW is just the standard non linear editing.
most of my music is hatch in my head and in the old daze i used to write it out long hand.
today, i still don't use instruments to write on, just my brain/ear to score in logic. saves time. playback in logic just helps me to confirm what has been written.
anyway, mate, cheers. djr.

  • Exported audio tracks are not starting from beginning of track

    I have GB '08.
I export recorded podcasts (i actually make language learning CDs using an external mic) so each track ends up at between 20 sec or say 2 mins, to an Itunes playlist. I may play a track, and then click on another, by double clicking as is usual in itunes to start a new track, EXCEPT that it starts the new track at the place it was last time when it was played, even if it is its first time played in itunes, but was listened to some point whilst in garage band.
so the tracks dont start at the beginning of the track but rather where they were left off when last listened too. This happens also on my ipod with those tracks and i have to manually drag a track's progress bar back to the beginning to hear it from its start.
This is a disaster for my product. Is it a bug or is it a setting? Please help urgently.
    Many thanks, Craig

Hi christoph, this is one of those headbangers.
the AAC and mpeg or exported as mp3 files both do it, which yes, is totally weird.
So, i can get the context menu, right clicking or cntl click, but what option is there to set it to new, as you suggest.
    Thanks for your efforts

    Hey, brother
I just got the solution in another forum. fascinating.

  • Movies - Multiple audio tracks strange problem

    This is a strange problem.
I have a .mov with 2 audio tracks. One italian (the first and active) and one english. The movie is compatible with ATV.
Using QuickTime Pro I can choose the language while watching the movie.
Using iTunes I see the movie with the first language selected on preferences (cmd+j on QuicTime Pro).
On ATV the same movie plays just English, the second language, and this is quite strange.
Does anyone have the same problem?
    Greetings
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hmm, I don't really know. I have converted the DVD with 128 kbps for the two audio traks (stereo).Sounds like I need to go back and run additional tests. For my first attempt, I used two stereo tracks -- each 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz. For latest test used two mono tracks with the first 64 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz (keyed to English) and the second 32 Kbps @ 32 KHz (keyed to Italian).
I create a m4v video, I open with QuickTime Pro and work on the preferences for audio traks, than I save with mov extension.Had assumed we were both using similar strategies to create alternate audio movies here. Basically I create the movie with two audio tracks and then open the "Properties" window, select the first audio track (which is already set for English), set the alternate audio track pop-up for Audio Track 2, select the second audio track, set the language pop-up to Italian for this one, and use the Save As... menu option to create a Fast Sart, Standalone movie in the MOV container.
In this way I have a perfect double-language movie that, as I told, works perfectly on QuickTime and iTunes.Did have one question though. When you say you have a "perfect double-language movie that ... works perfect on QuickTime and iTunes," are you saying you can change the language in iTunes while the movie is playing? While I have no problem changing language using the "Choose language" menu command in the QT player, I have yet to be able to find a way to do this while playing in iTunes.
UPDATE: to temporally solve the problem I have changed the infos on movie properties. Calling the English audio track "Holland" (or any other language that is listed after Italian) I have solved the problem. On Tv, iTunes and Quicktime I can hear the "default" language (italian) and, just changing again the properties, I cand hear the second language.I think we are doing the same thing only I did not bother/have to use and additial language setting to get this to work.
In this case Audio Track 2 (Italian) is the default.
In this case Audio Track 1 (English) is the default.
Thus, for my test, I created two separate movies with each defaulted differently and played them back in each program/device to see which audio track played. In each case it was the "checked" default audio track and changing the "Language" setting for TV to Italian had no effect.

My audio stops outputting after a few songs in a playlist - itunes says its still playing, stopping and starting track recommences audio output.  Mac book Pro Lion 16gb ram.  Can be any song, any time, same song will play if I select it again.  Bit of a bummer itunes is the main thing I use (macbook pro jukebox).

Most likely culprit is your Lacie drives which are notorious for flaky power supplies which cause just the sort of erratic behaviour that you describe. Have had similar issues myself. Lacie has been good about replacing my power converter-- twice. If you have seven of them, good luck finding the bad one or more. Like I said, the behaviour is erratic. Sometimes it'll work sometimes not. I can't comment on Samsung drives because I've never used them and have never heard anything about them. Same with Softraid. Why not just use Disk Utility. Sounds like you're ready for an external hardware raid. This will be much faster, much more reliable, and may even be cheaper than seven firewire drives. Check out G Tech, and Maxx Digital for starters.
    Best of luck

  • One song in audio track breaking up

I have an entire video complete. One song in particular that I have imported keeps giving me problems. It's breaking up (almost sounds like a cell phone). It's downloaded from iTunes. I put it in as an audio clip and shortened it. When I play the video, the first time, it does okay. After that, the first time the song starts, but then starts cutting out and eventually you hear nothing, then it will come back in. If you try it again, you may not hear anything, then it the audio will come back at a different point than last time. I've tried deleting the song from the audio track and bringing it back. Same problem. No other song has this problem. When I share the movie to iDVD, it does the same thing.
    Any ideas?

Only one audio file can be used in a Lightroom slideshow.
You'll have to combine multiple songs into a single audio file (e.g. using Audition) then use the single audio file in the Lightroom slideshow.
For more flexibility, you can use commercial software such as ProShow Web, Gold or Producer which comes with a free Lightroom plugin

ProShow Web - Instant Photo and Video Slideshows from your Mac or PC

  • Editing starting only with a n audio track

Is it possible to start with an audio track and add different from different angles into the audio track so that the lips will be synced to the audio track.

This is the way I would do it:
    1. Put master audio in the first two tracks.
    2. Disable the patch panel for more audio.
    3. Create a total of three (3) Video Tracks.
    4. Put the first camera in the First track.
    5. Put the second camera in the second track.
    6. Put the third camera in the third track.
7.Turning the visibility on and off for each camera, sync up the video and audio for each camera.
    8. Turn overlays on.
    9. Select the blade tool and cut wherever you want to have the camera switch. (For example, If you want the first track to show through, cut the two above it for the amount of time you want the first camera to show.)
    10. Lower the opacities for whatever camera (or track) is hiding it. (For example, if you want the third camera showing, don't lower anything, its on top.)
    11. Do this as much as you want.
Ask any questions or just ask me to clarify on something.

  • Can't start with an audio track

In older iMovie versions I was able to import and audio track and lay still images and video clips on top of that. Now it seems like I need to start with video... when I simply drag an audio track into an empty clips window, it appears as a zero-seconds-long item. If what I want is to sync up images to a particular piece of music, what can I do?

I too presented the same topic earlier this year. In my world, the audio takes priority and syncing the visuals to fit. I copied this shortcut from my previous questions- hope it helps. I haven't made the jump yet to the Pro Software, but still on my wish list. If this shortcut doesn't work, SDMacUser was very helpful with explanations. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7824582#7824582

  • Need help replacing original audio track with song.

    Hi experts
I'm in the process of trying to create a movie for my daughters. What I did was film my daughters signing to a song that was playing on a CD player. I'd like to remove the audio track and replace it with the same song I purchased on Itunes. So far I able to import the video and song and put them on the timeline.
Now I can't never get the song I added to the timeline to play. How can this be done? And, please, point me to a good book
    Thanks,
    Francis Ouellet

Yes, I import both the movie and the song into the browser. Then I drag and drop the video into the timeline (V1) the corresponding audio track is moved automatically to A1 and A2. This plays well. Now I drag and drop my purchased song to the timeline (A3 and A4). If I hit the play button it only plays my video and sound (With a beep every second or so).
It just seems that the video and music tracks aren't linked together. Sorry, just purchased FCE this weekednd

  • Bugged audio playback? When I start working with more than 1 audio track.

    Hi!
I have been using premiere elements 12 for editing FullHD videos.
Brand new for me just bought it like 2 weeks ago.
Now during the last couple weeks I have had this MAJOR proglem with editing the audio.
This problem is headache and turns my simple editing into almost impossibilites.
I have had this problem with all my projects. _ALL_
Usually the problem seems to appear when I want to start working with several audio tracks.
At somepoint my projects just get ruined, I simply cannot hear the audio tracks.
The audio starts to disapear randomly from all the audio tracks.
It is not only playback problem. When I exported the video, the audio was partly missing, same as the project.
I have tried to look help on forums and search all what I could find, but havent been able to solve this.
    Small fix has slightly helped:
I export audio to single track and bring it back to project. This works but I still usually have more editing to do.
I simply cannot understand why the playback disapears, I fear it is a bug.
I found lot of earlier version problems on people with similar type of problems, but no help for this version of program.
To solve the matter I have changed my audio setting in PE12.
Tried Premiere Elements WDM Sound and ASIO4ALL V2, but same problem on both.
I have looked up that my audio playback device and PE12 matches, and are not muted, and volumes maxed.
I have deleted my C:\ appdata\roaming\adobe  premiere elements & premiere elements 12 folder preferences.. not helping..
I press the update pretty much everyday hoping for new version.. But yes, program keeps telling me its the latest.
I usually only work with 3 audio track maxinum. And I am doing really the most basic stuff here..
I have set all my audios to foreground and it has given me best results, but it does not seem to take the problem away as at somepoint randomly my audio playback is missing again, randomly across the playback.
Please anyone? I am feeling hopeless here.

What are you or the program setting as the project preset in the new project dialog. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and its Editing Mode, Timebase, and Frame Size readings.
I opened new project and this is what i got:
    Editing mode: HD 1080i
    Timebase: 25,00 frames/second
    Frame size: 1920 x1080
    Audio is 48000 Hz
(I dont know how to change these, btw. Program don't seem to let me change editing mode.
I also looked up my most recent project and found these settings:
    Editing Mode: DSLR
    Timebase: 30,00 frames/second
    Frame size: 1920 x1080
    ..and same audio settings
Do the problems persist if you start a new project? Do you find the audio problems develop when the Timeline content is fairly well developed or can the problems occur when there a minimal amount of content of those tracks? Let us look at the size and duration of this project.
Yes, I have had this problem with all my projects. Sometimes it goes away tho, just enough for me to work bit more. My work progress usually starts by clipping the video material, like 1h material to 8minutes in clips. After that I want to work with audio tracks, and here problems start! When I start working with more than 1 track, so the problem is at later stage. To fix the problem a small fix I have used, I export audio like music and effects tracks together to 1 wav and bring it back. After that, I start working with narrate track. To describe the problem with audio:
Audio Randomly starts to disapear when I playback, and can also be gone if I export the video out.
My source videos total size are usually within 80Gb max limit and audio edit material 300mb total.
In my last project my biggest source video was 47GB and leingth of 1h 4m, in addition to that I had 3 smaller videos, sizes of 1GB, 1,54GB and 300MB.
Is there any evidence that you are accidentially moving the audio track rubberband to alter the audio volume. That rubberband is the orange line that runs horizontally through the middle of the audio clip when you are looking at the wave form display style of that audio track. The rubberband represents audio volume.
No, audio volumes might have been adjusted in my tracks but they are present. The problem is usually like ~2-5seconds, a random audio track can be heard (like music or narrate) or just no sounds at all. This makes it very difficult to work with the audio. Also I gotta say that this problem starts by simply having the 2-3 audio tracks.. In my recent project the only adjustment I used to edit the audio was fade in/out.
I don't have any other audio problems with any other programs.
I am more than happy to provide more information if needed. I hope this information helps.
In addition I can say that when I close Adobe Premiere Elements 12, it crashes. No idea why.
I have also looked up my firewall settings, anything involved adobe and premiere..
In addition some effects like HD text templates make "Adobe Media Core CS6" crash. I tend to just not use em, or if I need em, I add em at end of the edits.
I hope this helps, I would really like to solve this problem.
Thank you alot for taking the time to answer! I welcome anyone to help mee too! Please giev links to similar problems too. Thank you everybody!

  • How to create a new independent audio track?

okay, probably a stupid question, but how can i create a new audio track that is not a "slave" to an already existing audio track. for example, all of my 8 audio tracks are in use, so when i try to open a new one, it is affected by the highlighted tracks specifications, making it very frustrating. please help and thanks.

Some things are just backward in Logic...we just have to get use too it.....
jord, I agree.. it's not that hard to understand the difference between an arrange track and an audio object. the fact that you can have many tracks in the arrangement that all use the same audio object or midi object is a great thing.
I think if people get their head around the fact that the arrange page _is not_ simply a representation of what is physically available in terms of tracks, then it all becomes clear.
I would recommend all new users to do the following:
click on your arrange window, and select the top track. start hitting delete until you have deleted every single track in the arrangement. you now have a blank page. but, importantly, the environment of available audio tracks/audio instruments/midi channels/whatever has not changed one single bit. you can now assign anything to your arrange page. 55 arrange tracks that are all using audio instrument 1 if you so desire. or, sequentially create new tracks that are all using subsequent channels/instruments by controlshiftreturn (by default).
people often get confused by doing the following: they create a new track in the arrangement - say they had audio instrument 1 and then created another _arrange track_ of audio instrument 1. then, they look in the parameter box for that second arrange track, and change it to audio instrument 2. then they get annoyed that for some reason, both tracks now change to audio instrument 2.. but this is totally normal, because you have changed the assigment of the same audio object, that just happened to be present in the arrangement in the form of 2 arrange tracks. the way to change what object is assigned to an arrange track is to click-hold on the track name (right there where the track is in the arrange list) and then you will see a pop up of all of the available objects, hierarchically presented to represent the environment layers in your song. or, instead of doing this, you can just create an arrange track that uses the next available audio track/instrument by using the key command described above (controlshiftreturn).
it's not at all illogical or backwards! when I am writing a midi part using an audio instrument, I (very) often want multiple arrange tracks of the same instrument so I can test out different ideas or variations.. muting all except the one I currently want to hear. and importantly, they aren't "copies" or "clones" of the same track, nor are they "linked" tracks that change assignment together, as many people seem to think. they are independant arrange tracks that just happen to have the same track or instrument assigned to them. once you get this, you start getting logic.
the way to build new audio objects or midi objects (which is what people mean when they say "new track") is and has always been in the environment. although, now there are shortcuts to do it by using the function 'create multiple tracks' which will produce the objects for you in the arrangement and add them to your arrangement in one operation. you also need to be aware of the setting in your audio prefs (or in hardware and drivers, can't remember which) where you define the maximum number of tracks that the audio engine will allow, this being another stalling point for many new users.
like I said, once you 'get' this architecture in your head, you start realising how powerful and flexible working on arrangements in logic will be. for me, it's a way better implementation than playlists in protools, for example.

  • How to make audio track respond to timeline

I'm starting a project and need the ability to control the speed of an audio file playback using the timeline.
There are specific events that happen at certain times in the song, and i need the ability to scrub forward and backward on the timeline, including the audio. is this possible?
I have a mechanism to scrub through the timeline of a symbol, but i can't get it to recognize the audio track.
I use this code on the stage in a "composition ready"
var symDur = sym.getSymbol("timelinePlay").getDuration(); // Get the timeline length of timelinePlay. We'll reference this later in the code. var mySymbol = sym.getSymbol("timelinePlay"); // Get the symbol timelinePlay. We'll reference this later in the code. var scrubber = sym.$("scrubber"); // Touch this to scrub the timeline of timelinePlay var bar = sym.$("bar"); // Bar the scrubber follows sym.$("mobileHit").hide(); // Added an extra invisible div to increase the hit region for mobile (hard to grab otherwise) var dragme = false; // Set the initial dragme function to false // Detect if mobile device, and if so swap out mouse events for touch events. This is pretty much duplicated code with touch events swapped. if (/Android|webOS|iPhone|iPad|iPod|BlackBerry/i.test(navigator.userAgent)) {     sym.$("mobileHit").show(); // Show the extra invisible div to increase the hit region for mobile (hard to grab otherwise)     $(function () {         scrubber.bind("touchstart", function (e) { // Enable the scrubber on touchstart             e.preventDefault(); // Cancels the default action of the mobile device - used to ensure our touch events are fired             dragme = true;         });         scrubber.bind("touchend", function () { // Disable the scrubber on touchend             e.preventDefault();             dragme = false;         });         scrubber.bind("touchmove", function (e) { // Make the magic happen on touchmove             if (dragme) {                 var touch = e.originalEvent.touches[0];                 var possibleX = touch.pageX;                 var leftX = bar.offset().left;                 var rightX = (leftX + bar.width()) - scrubber.width();                 var scrubWidth = rightX - leftX;   // Confine the scrubber to the width of the bar                 if (possibleX < leftX) {                     possibleX = leftX;                 }                 if (possibleX > rightX) {                     possibleX = rightX;                 }                 scrubber.offset({                     left: possibleX                 });                 var relativeX = possibleX - leftX;                 var stopTimeline = Math.ceil((relativeX / scrubWidth) * symDur); // Make the scrubber scrub the timeline length of timelinePlay                 mySymbol.stop(stopTimeline); // Stop the timeline of timelinePlay when the scrubber is released             }         });     }) } else $(function () {     scrubber.mousedown(function () { // Enable the scrubber on mousedown         dragme = true     })     $(document).mouseup(function () { // Disable the scrubber on mouseup         dragme = false     })     $(document).mousemove(function (e) { // Make the magic happen on mousemove         if (dragme) {             var possibleX = e.pageX;             var leftX = bar.offset().left;             var rightX = (leftX + bar.width()) - scrubber.width();             var scrubWidth = rightX - leftX;             // Confine the scrubber to the width of the bar             if (possibleX < leftX) {                 possibleX = leftX;             }             if (possibleX > rightX) {                 possibleX = rightX;             }             scrubber.offset({                 left: possibleX             });             var relativeX = possibleX - leftX;             var stopTimeline = Math.ceil((relativeX / scrubWidth) * symDur); // Make the scrubber scrub the timeline length of timelinePlay             mySymbol.stop(stopTimeline); // Stop the timeline of timelinePlay when the scrubber is released         }     }) })
and have an group called 'scrubber' that contains a div called 'dot' and a box called 'mobileHit.' There's a horizontal bar that's not included in the 'scrubber' div (representation of a timeline) called 'bar' on top of which the 'scrubber' sits.
the whole contraption controls a symbol called "timelinePlay"
If there's any way to get the audio included in the timeline and give me the ability to scrub through the timeline /and/ audio, (imagine manually fast forwarding and rewinding a VHS tape) that would be wonderful!!!

    anybody?

  • Live cueing of accompanying audio tracks?

    Hi,
I need to cue the orchestral audio tracks which will accompany live performances (from the piano) of my piano concerto.
I want to use a footswitch to 'bring the orchestra in' and then have Logic stop automatically at the end of each passage & await my footswitch cue for the next passage; etc. for the entire 20 minute piece.
I'm thinking that markers will come into play... Can anyone enlighten me as to the best approach(es) to use?
    Thanks!
    Joseph

    I tried an expirament........
I created a key command for the stop/start function (spacebar). I chose the loweset note on the keyboard C-2 so that logic would stop if that key is pressed. I recorded that note on midi channel 1 at the measure I wanted the song to stop. but of course the note has to come into logic not out, so I ran my midi cable out of my midi interface then directly back in again and started the sequence and how about that, logic stopped when it got to that note, so it worked.
    However....
How about other midi information? how does that get to your midi keyboard?
Well hopefully you have more than one midi out on your midi interface. I have 4, so assign the midi key command to a midi out not in use by other midi keyboards and there you have it, midi stop.
Hopefully someone else has better way, but this will work in a pinch

  • Can't trim beginning off audio track???

I am new to Aperture (3.0.2), so this is probably a simple question, but the problem is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any help!
I have a slideshow, and want to add audio. I can drag in a song (into the secondary audio track) from the audio browser, and it works fine. However, I want to trim off the first part ("boring intro") of the song. When I drag the slider at the start, it appears to work normally (like iMovie, for example), and I see the length of the song decreasing. However, when checking it is really trimming off the end of the song -- not the beginning! Is it possible to trim the beginning of the song off?

@Jeff: I have not tried this on the latest update to Aperture, but I had the exact same problems when trying out the Aperture 3 slideshows in an earlier version. It seems like a huge oversight to not include the ability to trim the beginning of a song but to include the ability to trim the end. Many songs start slowly and would often need to be trimmed.
I suggest that you submit feedback to Apple (select the "Aperture" menu item and then "Send Aperture Feedback...") on this issue, and I'll check my system tonight and submit feedback as well if I find that the issue hasn't been fixed in 3.0.2.

  • Difficulty lining up cuts at precise spots in the audio track

    Hello,
(I guess this turned into just a rant because I think "it just works that way" is really the only answer but if someone has any suggestions, I'm all ears)
I'm trying to use iMovie 11 to build a music video. I have my audio track and I'm adding clips to it that I want to position at precise spots in the music - beats, key changes, words, etc.
(First rant; I can't stand that the audio track is only as long as the amount of clips you have. I want to play the song past my last clip to help decide what clip I want to put in next - argh!!! I have to put dummy clips in the movie to make the audio play past where I'm working - insane)
Anyway, trying to line up cuts with certain spots in the audio is proving to be very frustrating. Yes, I know about beat markers but even if I put in beat markers, I can't figure out what to line up with them. Is it the trailing edge of the first clip or the leading edge of the next clip. The fact that there are gaps between the clips makes it impossible to tell where the cuts really are. It just doesn't make sense to me. Obviously, the audio and video is continuous, so what is happening in the gap? Where is the cut?
The other thing that makes it difficult is that the timeline stretches depending on the duration of a clip that is sitting on it. It seems like they do this so that they can have thumbnails that are always at least a certain size. When the duration of a clip gets short, they have to stretch the timeline because it has to be as long as the thumbnail picture. This distorts the waveform and again makes it hard to find known shapes. I can't understand this logic. The timeline should be the same scale all the way across.
The Precision Editor seems to have a mind of it's own. If I line up the cursor with a beat marker and click the clip gets trimmed way before the beat marker would indicate.
I guess I just don't get it. Does anyone else have these problems???
    (end of rant)

    Thanks for the reply,
What I mean about the space between clips is, on the timeline, there are visual gaps between clips. I know there aren't actual gaps in the video but visually, the clip thumbnails are separated by a gap. The audio waveform however, is displayed as continuous below the clipthumbnails. So the question is, where is the actual cut relative to the audio. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
Those clips actually meet somewhere in relation to the audio. Where? Does the second clip start right at that rise in the wave form (just left of the beat marker) or does it start further left, right after the end of the first clip where the audio falls down? It seems like there should be a corresponding gap in the display of the audio and then it would be clear where the clips line up in relation to the audio. No?
On the length of the thumbnails thing, I know about the slider but regardless of the scale, the thumbnail pictures never get below a certain width. So, if you've got really short clips - like still frames that I want to flash in time with a quick beat - since the thumbnails don't get very narrow, iMovie has to stretch the audio waveform that runs beneath the thumbnail so that it matches the length of time of the clip. You can see this happening if you watch the timeline during playback. The playhead will be moving along smoothly but when it gets to the short clips, it will zip along much faster across those clips (because they are actually stretched relative to real-time), and then slow back down again when it gets to longer clips. The fundamental issue in my mind is that the playhead should not change speed during playback. It distorts the whole timeline and makes time comparisions of different clips nearly impossible.
