Audiobooks & Podcasts settings

Hi All
I've just updated to iTunes 7.0.2. Does anyone know how you stop iTunes from recognising certain files as audiobooks or podcasts? I like having my podcasts and audiobooks displayed in my main library alongside my music, but the new version iTunes won't let me do this. It used to do this in the old version of iTunes. is it something to do with changing a setting on the podcast files so itunes thinks they are music files, and doesn't store them separately?
Any help would be gratefully received.

I did try looking at the genre, but to no avail, as they're all set to blank.
I'm trying to put all my episodes of the Ricky Gervais podcast into one place, but anything I picked up via subscription to a podcast is only visible via "Podcasts", stuff I bought off Audible is only visible via "Audiobooks", and the mp3's of the podcast I downloaded directly, I can see in my music library as I'd like!

  • Podcast settings for individual podcasts

Is there any way to specify podcast settings on a per podcast basis instead of having itunes apply the settings globally? For example, I want one of my podcasts to automatically download the most recent episode, but others I want to download the episodes manually. For world news now, I only want to keep the most recent episode, but some others I want to keep 3 or 4... etc. Is there any way to set this up?

I've been trying to figure how to do this as well .... so far the best 'solution' seems to be by using this Applescript:
    http://www.acetylene.net/podcastmanagement_foritunes/
..which allows the user, through ranking your podcasts, to either retain or "expire" particular podcasts.

  • Podcast settings gone in 11.1

    Folks,
Any one know where the Settings went? I used it to restrict the number of Podcasts to 5 or 10. Also how do I remove podcats? When I delete, they do not get deleted but flagged as read.
    Thanks

Correction: there is still a per-podcast Settings button but it's not in the List view any more. If you select the My Podcasts view, click the podcast you want to edit and select the Settings cog at the top-right, you'll find individual settings that will override the defaults. You can also manually delete podcasts from this view, but alas not from the List view where all old epsiodes continue to show up with little cloud icons.
Another classic iTunes UI choice, three times more complicated and twice as ugly as the previous way.
I just don't understand Apple. Their hardware is generally beautiful, iOS almost as much so. But iTunes? It's as though each iteration they outsource it to a new bunch of enthusastic but unfocussed interns. Awful software.

  • Installing new windows without losing my podcasts settings???

    Hi,
since i've got problems with my windows, i am really keen on formatting and reinstalling xp. i've already made a backup of all my podcast-files (my itunes library is on drive d:, so formating drive c: won't affect my files anyway),
however, i don't want to lose my podcast settings and descriptions within itunes. is there any solution for this problem
thanks in advance for your help

Podcast descriptions are part of the episode files. Episodes use the artist, album, and track track tags for this.
When opening iTunes on new installation hold down the shift key during startup of iTunes. It will open dialog to select library. Navigate to file and select it.
    Some of this may help

  • In Itunes 11 Podcast Settings?

I can't find the settings for all podcasts. I want to stop my podcasts from automatically downloading. Any help anyone?

    To stop a Podcast from automatically downloading;
either unsubscribe from that Podcast. This is done in the main body of the Podcasts Library/List. Highlight the Podcast series and the Unsubscribe"lights up". Use that.
    compared with:
Or, after highlighting the Podcast series, select Settings button and change the options for that one Podcast series:
To do this for all Podcasts, in the shot above, change "Click" to "Podcast defaults".

  • How to set default podcast settings

If I select a podcast and click on the settings button a dialog box come up. In this dialog box is a checkbox for "Use Default settings".
Where do I set these default settings? I tired preferences but I could not find it there. So where do I set these settings that I want all Podcast to use?

It's in the same little window as all the other defaults, the one you mentioned. Just go to the first one in the drop-down menu.

  • Podcast settings not taking

Quite often my podcast subscription settings are not taking, that is, they do not sync properly to my iPhone. For example, the setting is set to remove played podcasts, but they are not removed. Usually, iTunes shows shows the podcast as played, but the check is not removed for syncing.
    Any suggestions?

i feel as if that is happening sometimes with image adjustment settings, but I still have no 'proof' of it. it's just a feeling i've got: "havn't I already adjusted this image!?".

  • Best audio gear to buy for adobe audition to make audiobook & podcast & elearning screencast ?

what is the best audio gear to buy for adobe audition to make audiobook and podcast and screencast video tutorials?
I will work alone with one microphone only in my bedroom.
    Thanks

I'll assume that initially you won't want to spend a fortune, but also, you won't want stuff that you will later regret purchasing. And to do this sensibly, you'll want to spend a bit more money on the microphone than on the external sound device.
For a microphone, you could do a lot worse than to get a Rode NT1-A complete vocal recording solution. With the kit, you get a mic cable, shockmount, pop shield, a bag for it - and also a tutorial DVD, but you can safely ignore that... The kits are generally available at quite a competitive price, and Rode microphones have a good value-for-money reputation. You'll still need some sort of a stand, either desk or floor mounting - but they're easy to find.
For a sound device, you could consider something like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface. This has all the useful bits you'll need - like the ability to plug a pair of headphones into the front for direct monitoring. Focusrite kit has a good reputation, and isn't overly expensive for what it is. This is a basic solution that would actually let you use two mics if you wanted, so there's a little room for expansion if you need. If you want to spend less money there are options like the Tascam US-122 - but I'd personally spend just a little more on the Focusrite - they have better mic preamps.
Yes you'll need a pair of headphones, but here the choice is rather up to you, although I'd recommend that you look at Beyer and Sennheiser for clean consistent results, although they aren't the only ones. You need closed-back ones though if you use them near the mic - something like the Beyer DT-250 is a good choice, because they have replacable leads, and the feed is into one side of the headphone only - and they're comfortable.
Since I don't know where you are located, I don't know what this is actually going to cost you, but it's good basic kit that should last you for a while, and produce decent results without spending a fortune. Yes it's possible to spend a heck of a lot of money on stuff like this, but the law of diminishing returns sets in quite early, and you can get remarkably good results these days without spending a lot at all. There are a few brands that are generally better avoided, like Behringer. Nothing wrong with Behringer electronics, but they economise on their hardware, and invariably things like sockets stop working, and knobs fall off. Oh, and they use cheap level controls etc, and these become noisy quite fast. You get what you pay for - it's cheap but it won't last long before you experience trouble.

  • Podcast settings

Is there a way for me to set different settings for different podcasts?
I sync my podcasts to my iphone and usually have it set to only sync the most recent podcasts. I was wondering if it was possible to do this but have one or two of the podcasts sync more than just one episode. I have a few podcasts that i subscribe to that are very short and would like to sync multiple episodes while my other podcasts still sync only the most recent episode.

I want to set different settings for each of the podcasts that I subscribe to. Some I want to keep all episodes, others, just the last few. Some I would like to update manually, others automatically. How do I do that?
I was referred to a FAQ about podcasts:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301880
which I appreciate, but it didn't include anything about settings.

  • Downloading music, audiobooks, podcasts

I download audiobooks from the library. To do that, I have to set my music setting to manual. When I try to set it back to auto so I can add my CD collection, the books are wiped out. On top of that, the music doesn't cross over. I have no trouble downloading podcasts, but that seems to be the extent of material which my Classic 120 wants. Any Help?

Thanks Mike. I use various other backup utlities which allow me to do the same exclusions, but it obviously requires manually updating your backup job(s) each time you add an audiobook, movie, or podcast. iTunes started out managing music and then added the additional areas so at some point they should consider separating out these folders IMO.

  • Why do my itunes podcast settings keep resetting?

i originally set my itunes to download new podcasts every night at 12:15 am, so i could get news podcasts from the previous day if i missed it, but my download time seems to randomly reset itself to different times of day. sometimes early morning, sometimes mid-afternoon, sometimes in the early evening.
when i readjust the download time, it randomly resets itself again.
i know it can reset itself if there's a power outage, but why does it keep resetting itself randomly?

So after the subscriptions disappeared yesterday, I resubscribed to Democracy Now! and Bill Moyers Journal.
This morning, I went to check iTunes... and two of the subscriptions were gone -- AGAIN! And the episode of Democracy Now! that remained behind was now listed under real Tim with Bill Maher.
I'm getting so frustrated with this... why am I having to re-subscribe to podcasts every day now?

  • Individual podcast settings don't work

I have some podcasts set to keep the last 10 episodes and others set to keep all episodes. iTunes is still keeping all episodes. Ideas???

iTunes deletes episodes when you Refresh podcasts (or when it does so automatically, I presume).
I have some set to keep all unplayed episodes, and the default to keep everything. After I've listened to some episodes on my iPod and sync with iTunes, those episodes are marked as played with the Last Played data and so forth. When I click Refresh in the Podcast view, the played episodes get deleted as the refresh of each podcast completes.

  • What the heck is going on with my podcast settings

All of a sudden, my preferences don't work. No matter how I set them - which is to DO NOTHING and Keep All Episodes when podcast becomes available - the episodes automatically download (which I don't want) and I can't figure out how to get them to get off my ipod but stay in my itunes! This is new. I've subscribed to ONE podcast for the last year. Never a problem. Until a recent upgrades knocked out my entire podcast library and left me with this problem. Help!

  • Audiobook podcast 30 second rewind ipad, ios 5.0

When I updated to iOS 5.0 and got the new Music app with its updated interface, I appear to have lost the ability to scrub and to use the 30-second rewind function.  Is this something that is specific only to me or was this feature removed from the iPad version of Music?

The Music app in iOS 5.0 on the ipad is broken. It also won't play audiobooks correctly (it only plays one chapter then either stops or loops the same chapter).
Hopefully they fix it soon. There is no way they removed these features on purpose. The features are still there on ipod touch and iphone. Even my 6 year old ipod has these features.
