AudioPublisher: setting a different Microphone

Question

Since quite some stuff is still unclear about the flash player 10 version (and it's not documented or pointed out on this forum), here's a way in on setting the microphone to be used for use with the AudioPublisher class.
AudioPublisher has an undocumented property, microphoneManager, which offers access to its property micIndex. To understand what this is read the documentation on the AS3 Microphone class.
You can pass a value representing a microphone to the property. Example:
// Microphone
<rtc:AudioPublisher id="audioPub"/>
// AS3 to update the microphone to be used for recording audio
audioPub.microphoneManager.micIndex = 2;
The above code sets the active microphone to the microphone with an index of 2 in the Microphone.names array. Using that array you can easily create an input (e.g. a ComboBox) to let the user select the microphone to be used.
This is especially useful for use with AIR apps, as there is no other way of changing the default mic since the settings panel is disabled in AIR, thus preventing access to the setting.

I'm having the same problem with specifying a nondefault SQLDEVELOPER_USER_DIR...
I've tried the suggestion of setting it at command line with no luck
sqldeveloper -J-Dide.user.dir="c:\my documents\blah"
I've tried editing the sqldeveloper.conf file with no luck.
Has anyone else hit dead ends with everything they have tried?
