Audit of a content without using URM

Hi,
I would like to be able to follow all modifications on a content item for auditing purpose.
I don't use the URM.
For example, I would like to know if the metadata of a document are updated and by who (if the IP address is also known, it will be better).
Or to be able to know when the different steps of a workflow were accomplished.
I had a look on the "Content Tracker". But, by default, it only provides tracking for the "Search" services, not for the update.
By looking, the list of services, I noticed that several "UPDATE" services exist.
I would like to know if there are no other methods than using the Content Tracker and adding all the services.
Are there other components or configurations that can help me on this topic ?

Pierre,
Have you looked inside the DocumentHistory and WorkflowHistory tables?
These contain quite a lot of useful information. Certainly the sort of things you mention. Additionaly they are there by default and wil not impact performance/DB size unlike Content Tracker.
It is pretty trivial to create a UCM report based on these tables and link to this from the 'Content Information' page
However this approach will only store that the metadata was updated, it will not store what the change was. If this is what you need then a simple but ugly approach would be to force a metadata update to create a new revision.

then you will get options to hide,change the text . etc.
For deploying,changing the WDJ files you need NWDS. without NWDS it's not possible

Hey Keith,
Since you are already using the getResponseAsString() method you have your GET_FILE call working. To get the xml file as the file itself you need to instead call the getResponseStream() method. This will get you an InputStream representing the response.
Once you have the stream you can do the following (I assume you are on a jsp page or somewhere you have access to the HttpServletResponse):
String contentType = serviceResponse.getHeader("Content-Type");
InputStream xmlInputStream = serviceResponse.getResponseStream();
OutputStream outStream = response.getOutputStream();
response.addHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=myXmlFile.xml");
response.setContentType(contentType);
StreamUtil.copyStream(xmlInputStream,outStream,true,true);
The runthrough:
1. get the content type of the file coming back form the GET_FILE call
2. grab the file as an InputStream
3. get the output stream representing the response
4. add a header to the response to trigger the "download file" dialog
5. set the content type of the response
6. copy the input stream to the output stream to send the xml file to the browser
Notes:
-StreamUtil is part of the RIDC jar
-use Content-Disposition = inline to tell the browser to try and render the file in it's window if it can.

Sharing interactive content without using DPS

Hi, I would like to share content I've produced in InDD CS5.5 including interactive content (Pan & Zoom, slideshow etc.) with colleagues within my company.
Do I need to go through the full DPS procedure or is there a simpler way? If I do need to go the DPS route, how do I ensure my content remains confidential and viewable within my company only?

Reading the contents of a File without using the fileref

I was trying to read the contents of a file (not upload
basically) without using the fileref.upload or any servlets.
I wanted to give this file as input(dataprovider) to a
datagrid from the local instead of uploading it to the server and
fetching the contents from there.
I will explain the scenerio here:
1.I have a text field. (Here I am providing the path of the
file located).
2.There is a Submit button .(On click should be able to take
the specified file as input and read the contents of the file)
which should be able to read the contents of the file path
specified in step1.
I want to basically provide the contents of this xml file as
data provider to a datagrid.

You cannot access the local file system in Flex. You need to
upload the file to the server, and then populate the file from that
uploaded file. Unless of course you are using AIR, then this is

These are very different things.
JavaScript has some access to layers (called OCG). Layers are just names and have no coordinates to retrieve.
Stamps may be annotations; there is some minimal access to these too I think. It may be hard to identify what is, and is not, a stamp even with a plug-in.
Images are part of the actual page contents, and are only accessible to plug-ins.

Force field contents to be caps only without using javascript

Can a field be forced to be typed as caps only without using javacsript, I have created a template where
if the field is typed in lowercase the javascript makes this caps. The problem being now is that this script
doesn't work when the user is filling the form on a ipad.
Any ideas?

How do I transfer itunes music to my iphone 4 without using the restore from this backup function? I cannot use the back up function as have been advised that therer are bugs in it and restoring it back to my phone will bring the bugs with it and phone will be back to apple again as will start playing up again. But I need the music. Whn I plug it in laptop and go to itunes icon it gives me 2 options: Set up as new iphone? OR Restore from backup.
Do I pick set up as new phone? I dont know as the guy at the genius bar told me there would be an option asking if i want to sync itunes only...but there isn't.

How can I publish an App to a selected group of people ( not via App Store) without using the Adobe Content Viewer?
The App was developed with InDesign 6.0

You'd have to sign up for an Apple Developer account and then gather all the UDID's (Apple limits this to only 100 devices) that you want your app to be installed on. Create your mobile provisioning profiles to include these ID's and then you could use TestFlight to push out your app and monitor who has installed it. Of course Testflight is intended for monitoring your apps performance but I'm sure you can get away with it if you use it to push you app. One thing to keep in mind is the mobile provisoning profiles are only valid for 1 year. Hope this helps.

Several ways to get similar results. Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout. This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact. A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour. You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color. There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

How to create a DVD in iDVD6 without menu (there are several options)
1. Easy. Drop your iMovie in the auto-play box in iDVD's Map View, then set your auto-play item (your movie) to loop continuously.
Disadvantage. The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
2. Still easy. If you don't want your (auto-play) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the drop-zone (text needs to be black as well).
Disadvantage. The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
3. Still quite easy but takes more time. Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage. One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software. Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn.
Disadvantage. you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
5. The "hard way". Post-production with myDVDedit (free-ware)
Tools necessary. myDVDedit ( www.mydvdedit.com )
• create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
• Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
• Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
• Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
• Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
• Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
• Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager.
