Actually I would expect that 1.4 will probably be end of lifed in the next year.

  • JVM bug with Turkish locale settings (windows)

    Hello,
There is a serious bug in all versions of java virtual machine. When you set your locale settings to Turkish language, you can not install & use database driven java applications (that needs to create a database). For example; you can't install oracle 9i or 10g, ORA-12560 arises in database creation phase; and you can't install Readerware (a book cataloger), it locks-up in database creation phase, too. Ofcourse when you change your language to English or another language the problem goes away.
I found that the source of the problem is JVM's wrong character mapping. It fails to convert Turkish and English "i" and "I" characters correctly (they're different in Turkish).
Is there anybody to fix this issue in the next release ?
    Thanks,...

I logged a bug about Java's Turkish Collator implementation: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4688797.
I'm not sure if your issue would fall into the same category. It looks like a separate bug to me, although closely related.
Try logging that bug, or adding this to the bug above.

  • JVM Crash with no hs file or information whatsoever - and how to trace?

    Hi
We have a frustrating problem with jvm 1.4.2_04 (and we've also tried 1.4.2_06). We're getting crashes of the jvm (access violations), which do not result in a hotspot log file, and so its very difficult to track down what's going on. They happen at random times and I cannot spot anything obvious at atll from the our application logs. We have found it generates Dr Watson output (i've copied at the end) but I really don't know how to interpret this.
Does anyone know why a hotspot file might not be produced, and if is anything i could try to make the jvm produce some intelligable output upon crashing?
    Thanks very much,
    Steve

First of all, I'm not at all surprised that there isn't a hotspot log file to be found. Acces Exceptions in Windows applications (I'm assuming from your post that you are executing the jvm under windows), are roughly equivalent to NullPointerExceptions in the Java language.
More specifically, the represent 'unexpected' flows of code execution, since they signal that the program tried to acces a variable which did not excist according to windows. Just as with NullPointerExceptions, this generally indicates that it never occured to the programmer that his reference/variable might not be valid anymore.
Therefore, there will probably not be a 'catching' block, that makes sure that the log-stream is flushed before the jvm terminates. Recall that in java, you would also need to do this by hand if you're to ensure that logging happens correctly.
As for any resolutions to the problem, I can only suggest submitting it to Sun as an 'official' JVM bug...

  • JVM Crashes with a VM state:not at safepoint (normal execution) error

    Hello.
I have been battling with this error occasionally ocurring for months. There are many suggestions in various blogs and they all seem to think it's a JVM bug. I'm not so sure.
I am running JBOSS 4.0.5 on SuSE Linux 10. JVM is Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.5.0_21-b01 mixed mode). The code is a servlet-based non-J2EE expanded WAR file. When my app starts, it instantiates a static object called ProductCache. This object has an inner class that extends Thread called RefreshThread which runs continually, sleeping for 60 minutes and then refreshing a java.util.Map in ProductCache called cache. It does this by calling a synchronized method addItem in the parent (ProductCache).
RefreshThread does this initial population of cache when it is instantiated and before start() is called by the instantiating class (ProductCache).
When I occasionally get the aforementioned JVM crash, it is always when this RefreshThread wakes up for the first time (60 minutes after instantiation). I immediately restart the JBOSS instance again, and the crash doesnt't happen again - until I stop JBOSS and replace the WAR with a new version. Once I restart JBOSS, there is a risk I may get the crash again. If I do, restarting JBOSS fixes it again!
I have tried stopping and starting JBOSS a second time immediately after updating the WAR file and this seems to mitigate the problem, but occasionally it still occurs. Restarting after the crash always stops the problem happening again even in this case.
Is there something about multithreading I am doing wrong? Are there special rules about instantiating threads from static objects? What about calling synchronized methods from threads instantiated by the object containing the synchronized method? Why would a restart after the crash always fix it?

What do you mean by JVM crash? A core dump? Your code, shouldn't be able to cause a core dump even if you had a bug in it.
I did not read your code, and I don't know what you mean by static object, but you can start a thread from wherever you want, and where the thread was created doesn't matter. It should be able to invoke any methods. The only things that you have to think about is that you can get race conditions, deadlocks and all other issues that are related to concurrency.

  • Problem/bug with AIR 3.0

    Hi guys,
I'm here again. I got this error when I tried to publish my project with AIR 3.0.. Actually, I've created an application usign AIR 2.6 (default comes with CS 5.5). It was used to get published and I used to update it on regular basis. Few days back I had to copy AIRSDK3 folder to Adobe's program files' folder, where I renamed AIR2.6 to anything else and AIRSDK3 to AIR2.6... Today, when I tried to publish my same project,  I got this following error. Hope that would help adobe (as it is beta version).
(By the way, when I renamed the folders to their original names, it worked and published).

    Steve,
We have seen the same thing and reported it to Forte. We have not yet
heard back with a bug report number...
For now, we have removed all comments from our sql code.
    Derk
    >
We have just switched from version 2.0.H.1 to version 3.0.F.2 in development,
and have discovered a bug with comments in SQL code.
Anywhere in a cursor definition, or within SQL code in a method, if we use the
multi-line comment format "/* ... */" even on a single line, then the code
compiles fine, but crashes at runtime with a "Invalid SQL Command" error. It
looks as though Forte is including the comment as part of the SQL!
Has anyone else seen this problem? We have not found it in the known bugs list
for 3.0.F.2 or the fixed bugs list for 3.0.G
This worked fine for us prior to version 2, and if we don't get it fixed in
Forte, it means a lot of rework to change the existing comments to single-line
    "// ..." format.

... Do you have any idea whether this is a known
issue in jdk1.4.2_03 and any suggestions on how to
check whether it is fixed in the later versions. The hs_err log that you included above, points to a rather generic
error location (the error log dump has since been much improved
and provides much more useful information than the dump from
1.4.2_03 above). As such it is difficult to tell what the bug is that
    caused the crash here.
Running with a later version might provide further clues (or it
might be fixed already). Recall that at a refresh rate of an
update release per each 3 months, 1.4.2_03 is already
at least 3 years old (and perhaps more). A number of bugs
especially in the Concurrent Mark Sweep Collector being used
    here have since been fixed.
If testing with 1.4.2_13 is not feasible, please provide your Sun
support contact with a core file from the incident and that might
lead us closer to the root cause and allow us to determine if
this may have been fixed subsequently. They may also be able to
provide you with a test JVM binary that may lead one closer to the
    root cause.

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.

Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or  Chrome.

I primarily use week view on iCal, but sometimes i switch to month view for a larger perspective. Often, i use month view to check for any leftover events from the previous month in case i forgot to delete one or two.

However, may 2011 seems to have a bug. If i click on < from june, it does nothing; if i click again, it takes me to april 2011. Similarly, if i click on > from april it does nothing and if i click again it takes me to june.
It doesn't end there. The june/may thing happens only when the selected day (the one shaded light grey on the month and week views and bright blue on the little month tab on the left) is after 04 june. If a day from the first week of june (i have my weeks start on sunday) is selected, the < button does take me to may, but several events which i deleted a long time ago are showing up.
Now, i have an event set for today (04 june). Since the first four days of june are in the same week as the last three of may, the month view for may shows these four days, as any normal calendar app would.
If i use the month tab to the left to navigate, i can access may 2011 by selecting any day on that month. However, iCal's behaviour depends on which day was selected previously. If the previous day was in april 2011 or earlier, iCal will show the month of may completely empty, which is great because i have no leftover appointments from may; however, the box for 04 june is also empty, which it shouldn't be. If the previous day was in june 2011, it'll show may with a repeating event on every sunday except the first, which is completely absurd, since i have deleted this event (and why isn't it showing on the first sunday in may?); the box for 04 june, however, will correctly show the event i have set for this day. If the previous day was in july 2011 or later, it'll show may with the repeating event on all sundays (including the first one) and it won't show anything on the box for 04 june.
Obviously, there is a bug with may 2011.
In case it helps, i do have a repeating event set to all sundays until the end of existence, but i have deleted all the entries from may and previously, since they have obviously already happened. Also, i had many other repeating events set to happen on different weekdays; these are to repeat themselves weekly until about halfway through june, and they started on april or may (can't remember right now). Like the sunday one, i have deleted all the entries from may because they have already taken place. Strangely (and thankfully), none of these appear when i visit may from june or later, as does the sunday event.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or am i forever stuck with week view, which has so far proven to be bug-free?
(I did a search on Google and another on the Apple forums for this issue but could find nothing, so i decided to ask the question myself. I apologise if somebody has already asked this question and i just couldn't find it.)

    Greetings,
I have a vague recollection of someone else with this issue but haven't experienced it myself nor encountered it recently.
    Troubleshooting:
1.) First make an iCal backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966.
2.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Is this a bug with BoEdge3.1?

Can anyone help me on the issue which my customer is facing for BoEdge3.1
Concerning  Error Message: You do not have enough Named User Licenses to make this user a named user. You have 55 Named User Licenses. (FWB 00013)
This is the error message she was receiving when trying to change an
existing user from Concurrent to Named under the Connection Type on the
    Properties panel.
The current workaround was to delete the existing Concurrent user, then re-add the same user as Named.
She have been going through this process of deleting existing users, and then
re-adding them as Named and it was working okay. Then, it stopped
working and she started getting the same FWB 00013 error message again.
She was not able to create any Named users now. Basically, the workaround
worked for a while - then stopped working.
She currently has a total of 88 users. 21 of them are named. 67 of them
are Concurrent. She is licensed for 55 Named.
Once again, the system thinks she has 55 users marked as Named. But
there are only 21 marked as Named.
She did notice that as she was going through all of her existing list of
users, in alphabetical order, she was opening the Properties tab and
checking the Named/Concurrent status - as she got to the 55th user in the
list that is when she started getting the error message again.
Is this a bug with BoEdge3.1?
    And I got an ADAPT01194692.
I am not sure that Is the ADAPT related to this issue.
Please help me its very critical.

  • BlueTooth bug with car

Since the 4.3 update there's a big bug with the bluetooth connection with the car system - it still exists after a factory reset:
I paired the phone and the car. But every time they connect, I get a message box if I want to grant access to my phone's messages. Even the "Allow always" option does not work and I get asked every time. Very annoying!!

Hello, I'm having the same issue after updating my Xperia SP to Android 4.3 (12.1.A.0.266). In my car (Mercedes Benz A-Class from 2013) there is a radio called "Audio 20 CD" built in. Every time when I want to get into my car, my smartphone wants a connection request for my messages (SMS).The option "Always Allow" does not work. The phone does not remember the next time. I tried several times a new pairing of phone and car radio and I cleared the cache of the bluetooth-share app and smart connect app, but this didn't solve the problem.  Is there a fix available? With kind regardsThorsten

  • JVM Crash With Oracle OCI Client

    Hi
My app is running on Windows 7 64 bit, Jboss 4.2, launched from Eclipse, and runs fine when I use the Oracle thin client (10g, 32bit). However when I try to use the OCI client, I get this:
    # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
    # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d906f21, pid=4740, tid=5656
    # JRE version: 6.0_21-b07
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (17.0-b17 interpreted mode windows-x86 )
    # Problematic frame:
    # V [jvm.dll+0x106f21]
I'll post the contents of the log in another message because it's too long to fit here. Using the thin client is NOT an option unfortunately as the thin driver is missing some functionality that we need to use.
I've installed the Oracle client in a folder that doesn't contain spaces, or parentheses (c:\oracle\.....) and the JDK is installed in a similar directory (c:\java\...)
I've tried both 32bit and 64 bit versions of JDK1.6 and the Oracle 10g client. I have also tried mixed mode and interpreted mode JVM (Xint) with the same results.
ojdbc14.jar is in my JBoss server's lib directory, and ocijdbc10.dll is in my path (c:\windows\system32).
Anyone any ideas what's going wrong? Been trying to fix this for days now. Appreciate any help.
    Richard

Sorted it (well, my colleague did anyway). We installed a fresh version (32 bit) JDK (6u21), the Oracle 10g (10.0.3) client (32 bit) and made sure that there were no other OCI DLLs anywhere. I had some in the JBoss bin directory which I had copied in earlier that morning and forgotten about. So, the only OCI DLLs I have now are in Oracle's installation directory. Once we removed those erroneous DLLs from the JBoss directory, the server made the connection successfully. I don't full understand why, because I was getting the error earlier without the erroneous DLLs being present too, so I think there was some additional interaction going on somewhere. One other thing that may have been important is the tnsnames.ora file I had. We found a post that said the tnsnames file generated by the installer, when it only has one entry in it, can include dodgy whitespace at the end which can cause problems. So, just to be on the safe side we added a second entry (to another DB) - maybe that was something to do with it.
So, the Oracle 10g client and OCI driver DOES work on Windows 7 64 bit (at least for me anyway)

  • Am i the only one that see's serious bugs with Windows Search index on Windows 8.1 and Office 2013?

So i originally had Windows 8 and Office 2013 installed. I noticed that alot of my emails in Outlook 2013 as well as contacts werent being indexed. I waited for windows 8.1 and did an upgrade hoping the 8.1 would fix the issue. It didn't.
So i formatted my hard drive, installed fresh windows 8.1, and office 2013, and let it Windows Index run. I see 2 things happening.
    A.) The indexer never completes
B.) the indexer takes up 40% cpu usage.
I tried rebuilding, creating index from new location, nothing seemed to work. I decided to prevent the indexer from searching Office apps (outlook and onenote) and low and behold it completes indexing.
I decided to try and format again and see if there was some bug causing the issue. So this week I formatted once agian, loaded Windows 8.1, installed updates, and loaded office 2013. Once again, my indexer
is stuck around 70k items and my processor usage on Searchindexer.exe is around 30-40%.
Is this a known bug with 8.1 and office?
    Brad Nelson MCSE/DCSE/A+/Network+/WCSP

    Hi,
I test in my environment, and Windows would finish the index, the CPU usage keeps in 29%, which my RAM is 8G.
Can you tell us how you let the Windows Index run?
