Auto-fill Existing PDF files?

I have been given some standard shipping forms in an editable PDF format. Instead of spending 200 hours recreating reports in Report Builder that are the exact same thing, I was hoping Oracle Reports (or Forms) could just "send" the data to the PDFs (like passing in parameters) which would auto-fill the existing editable PDFs.
We DO have Acrobat 8 Professional --- so if there is a way to change the properties of a report to accept these "parameters" (aka "passed in data"), then we can do that. The person who has Acrobat on her computer is out of the office for the next week. So I can't go look on her computer and play with it. :(
We have the 6i development tools on a 9i db.

I dont think this is possible in reports.
However there are third parties who perform this. Search in google.

  • How can I auto export a PDF File using the "Smallest File Size" preset and set the Exported File Name based on information from an Imported PDF?

    Greetings all,
    I am trying to create a script to automate a PDF export process for my company for inDesign. I’m fairly new to inDesign itself and have no previous experience with javascript, although I did take C++ in high school and have found it helpful in putting this code together.
    We have an inDesign template file and then use the Multi-page PDF importer script to import PDF files. We then have to export two version of each file that we import, then delete the imported file and all of the pages to reset the template. This has to be done for nearly 1000 pdf files each month and is quite tedious. I’m working on automating the process as much as possible. I’ve managed to piece together code that will cleanup the file much quicker and am now trying to automate the PDF exports themselves.
    The files are sent to us as “TRUGLY#####_Client” and need to be exported as “POP#####_Client_Date-Range_North/South.pdf”
    For example, TRUGLY12345_Client needs to be exported as POP12345_Client_Mar01-Mar31_North and POP12345_Client_Mar01-Mar31_South.
    There are two templates built into the template file for the north and south file that are toggled easily via layer visibility switches. I need to get a code that can ideally read the #s from the imported Trugly file as well as the Client and input those into variables to use when exporting. The date range is found in the same place in the top right of each pdf file. I am not sure if this can be read somehow or if it will have to be input manually. I can put North or South into the file name based on which template layer is visible.
    I am not sure how to go about doing this. I did find the following code for exporting to PDF with preset but it requires me to select a preset and then type the full file name. How can I set it to automatically use the “Smallest File Size” preset without prompting me to choose and then automatically input some or preferably all of the file name automatically? (If the entire filename is possible then I don’t even want a prompt to appear so it will be fully automated!)
    PDF Export Code (Originally from here: Simple PDF Export with Preset selection | IndiSnip [InDesign® Snippets]):
    var myPresets = app.pdfExportPresets.everyItem().name;
    myPresets.unshift("- Select Preset -");
    var myWin = new Window('dialog', 'PDF Export Presets');
    myWin.orientation = 'row';
    with(myWin){
        myWin.sText = add('statictext', undefined, 'Select PDF Export preset:');
        myWin.myPDFExport = add('dropdownlist',undefined,undefined,{items:myPresets});
        myWin.myPDFExport.selection = 0;
        myWin.btnOK = add('button', undefined, 'OK');
    myWin.center();
    var myWindow = myWin.show();
    if(myWindow == true && myWin.myPDFExport.selection.index != 0){
        var myPreset = app.pdfExportPresets.item(String(myWin.myPDFExport.selection));
        myFile = File(File.saveDialog("Save file with preset: " + myPreset.name,"PDF files: *.pdf"));
        if(myFile != null){
            app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, myFile, false, myPreset);
        }else{
            alert("No File selected");
    }else{
        alert("No PDF Preset selected");
    So far my code does the following:
    1) Runs the Multi-Page PDF Import Script
    2) Runs PDF Export Script Above
    3) Toggles the Template
    4) Runs #2 Again
    5) Deletes the imported PDF and all pages and toggles template again.
    It’s close and much better than the original process which was almost 100% manual but I’d like to remove the Preset prompt from the PDF script and have it automatically select the “Smallest File Size” preset. and then if there’s a way to have it auto-fill in the file name so no user input is required at all other than selecting each file to import. (If there’s a way to setup a batch action for the multi-import script that would be even better!)
    Thanks in advance and if there’s anything else I can provide that would help please let me know! Even a nudge in the right direction will be a big help!

    If you hold down the option key, it will typically show the location. Or you can often hit option-return on the file and it will reveal the file in the Finder, instead of opening it.
    Final option is to open it, and just option-click the filename in the toolbar of Preview and it should show you the location.
    It's probably an attachment to an email you've received. If you have Mail set to cache emails and their attachments it'll be stashed in a subdirectory of ~/Library/Mail. Which is fine.

  • How do I delete some pages from an existing pdf file?

    I have an existing pdf file that is too large to send to some people. How can I delete some pages from this existing pdf file, and break it up into two files?

    Acrobat
    You can download a 30 day trial at that link.
    You may also be able to do it with CreatePDF, but I'm not sure.

  • Adobe Reader XI won't launch, can't download or open existing PDF files.

    Running Windows 7 and have had no trouble with PDF files until few weeks ago.  Now Adobe Reader Xi won't execute and I can't download or open existing PDF files using Adobe.  Interesting that I can open existing PDF files unsit PaintShop Pro X4 but not in Adobe.  Have unistalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader XI several times with no change in problem.

    You can try using Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement

  • Unable to open existing PDF files after downloading Adobe reader

    I have an Advent 7085 PC with Windows XP Home version 2002 service pack 2. After downloading the latest Adobe Reader 8 I cannot open any of my existing PDF files, nor can I open any new ones. I have several times downloaded it, tried it and found it doesn't work so have then deleted it from the system and rebooted. Downloaded again only for the same thing to happen again. Error message says that Adobe Reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then I am advised to let microsoft know of this problem.
    Please!!! Is there anybody out there who knows what the problem might be and help me resolve it?
    Thanks

    I finally called tech support and this is what we did and it worked for me...First go to start/control panel/add&remove programs. Once the program list is configured, hilite Adobe reader and select remove. Once the program is removed, from the control panel select user accounts. Set up a new user account "test". Through user "test" go into www.adobe.com and select icon to download adobe reader. You do not need to run media player, remove check unless you want to download it. After program is downloaded and copied you can close out of adobe. At that point I was able to open my PDF files without any error message. Tech advised me to keep the "test" user set up, doesn't hurt anything to have it there. He told me that there probably was some settings under my user account that was causing a glitch in the download and that is why we opted to download through a new user account. BTW the tech support was free if you still can't get it to work. Good Luck

  • How can i add or create Layers into existing PDF File

    How can i create or add new Layers into new or existing PDF file using DLE JAVA API (Datalogics API)

    sandyrock,
    The PDFL, as Adobe distributes it, only has a C/C++ interface.
    The JNI APIs are developed and supported by Datalogics, the company you licensed your copy of the PDFL from. Have you contacted them? Support for their API extensions to the PDFL should be included with your licensing fee and they have many tips and ready-made examples specific to their API extensions they could give you.

  • Edit existing pdf file

    Hi all ,
    I'm working a on  C# console application , that is used for editing existing pdf files , by shifting pdf document paragraphs down , adding text style..etc
    1. Is there a way that i can do that with acrobat sdk ?? Regarding that i'm editing an existing pdf file i.e the new result will overwrite the old one..
    2. Is there some kind of dll  , that i can use in my application to launch to Acrobat Pro XI so that i can use it's functions in my project ??
    Thank you

    Not everything you can do in Acrobat can easily be automated. There are
    different APIs in the Acrobat SDK, and the IAC interface has some serious
    limitations. Some of which you can get around by using the JavaScript
    bridge, but still, you wont have access to the page content. Only a plug-in
    can access that data, and still, moving "paragraphs" around is a huge
    tasks. The PDF file does not organize it's content in terms of words,
    sentences or paragraphs, so you would have to provide functionality that
    would be able to identify what you consider to be a paragraph. That is not
    a trivial task. You may be able to export your PDF content as a Word
    document, then do all that "magic" in Word, and then convert the document
    back to PDF (or go straight to the original document and do all the work in
    that).

  • Printing an existing PDF file

    I have been looking around everywhere to find a solution to this problem but just can't find anything. I am generating PDFs using iText. Once I have the file created I simply want to print it, which is apparently impossible without buying a 3rd party library.
    Has anyone found a way to take an existing pdf file and send it to a specific printer.
    To make it very clear (as in most other threads people don't seem to understand what the asker is actually saying)
    I have a file (C:\a.pdf)
    My default printer is called "abc"
    I have a 2nd printer called "xyz"
    I want to print C:\a.pdf to printer "xyz".
    Currently I am printing via acrobat but it's crap. It refuses to close after printing which is the main problem and I don't want to look up the processes and kill it as this is nasty.
    Surely someone, somewhere, has found out a way to say "print this file" from java! I don't care if it is a lot of code. I don't mind using an external library. It must work on windows, linux and crapple macs otherwise I'd just use FoxIt instead of acrobat.
    I have experimented with MANY different methods. The one found here (http://juixe.com/techknow/index.php/2008/01/17/print-a-pdf-document-in-java/) seems to be the best, however, the first page in a PDF seems to print portrait regardless of whether or not it's portrait. All following pages are then landscape. It was almost an amazing solution! If anyone has any ideas on that it would be much appreciated

    Hi
    I found jpedal on my searches but it's not an option due to the cost. Seems expensive considering all I want to do it send an existing PDF to a printer :S I really don't understand how it's so difficult to be honest. PDFRenderer on the dev.java.net site looks really promising but has a few issues. It doesn't seem to be active any more though which is disappointing.
    I think I have solved the problems I was having with it. I will post here after I have done some testing to say exactly what I have done

  • Printing existing PDF-File via SAP-Spool

    Hi to all,
    I'm looking for a solution to print existing PDF-Files (external Directory) via SAP-Spool, in order to create a set of documents in correct succession, where some of them are created within SAP and others beeing created externally (PDF-Files).
    We use NW7.0 and have AdobeDocumentServices activated.
    I don't want to create PDF-Files out of SAP-Spool-Requests.
    Thank you for any helpful hint.
    Best Regards
    Christian

    Thanks for this, having a look through at the moment, just one question do I have to install this SDK just to automatically print an existing PDF document from a 3rd party application when I have only the Reader installed?
    Thanks

    Thanks in advanced.

    Dear,
    MM (material Management)
    FI (Finances)
    TR (Treasury)
    FA (Fixed Assets)
    CO (Controlling and budgets)
    We need to explain to a customer what SAP can do following the standar.
    What these above functional modules can help your customer is very typical to answer someone. Basing on the business areas of your customers the services of these functional modules performance difference.
    And more over the functional modules you mentioend are consists huge data to study and understand AND next to attend a customer in convincing to conclude with satisfaction.
    A suggestion would be go for search with generic word which give clear picture of purpose of business area with SAP. You can find many related or atleast not many but helpful information. For example... SAP MM for XXXXX business. Hope by this you will get some helpful information before you attend your customer.

  • Manipulate existing pdf file

    Hi
    I would like to know if is possible to manipulate one existing pdf file. My doubt is that I need to add one customized footer to one existing pdf file and then merge it with other.
    I already did some searches but with no success.
    Anyone know any way to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Choose a [Java API for PDF|http://google.com/search?q=Java+API+for+PDF].
    iText is one of most used Java API's for PDF.

  • Edit a existing pdf file

    Is it possible?? "I have an existing PDF file and I want to change every occurence of the word 'competitor' with the word 'myself' "

    Your qustion is very nice.Sometime we need to edit
    file whether it is non editable like your resume,it
    Do you mean "resumes submitted to the company". Why
    are you editing resumes submitted to you?Recruiters sometimes change resumes before submitting them to a company. [Those recruiters should be shot, especially if they do it without your prior approval.  You should know exactly what they are sending to the company.  If the recruiter has an issue or suggestion for your resume, the recruiter should tell you and have [b]you change it. They should not make changes that you haven't agreed to.]
    will be good if you make your resume in pdf format
    sothat nobody can write , but it will not static file
    you have to edit someday sometime for someone.Or do you mean the resume sitting in My Documents
    which will be converted from a Microsoft Word
    document to what ever the company I'm applying to
    wants then emailed off.If you can edit a PDF, so can the recruiter. Still PDF is harder for the recruiter to change than a Word document is. So, keep the Word document (or other editable source), change that as needed, and create a new PDF.
    I assume the OP doesn't have any editable source for this document--that he just has the PDF. He could always retype the whole thing if he can't use copy-and-paste or OCR or something to get editable text from the file.
