Auto-increment workflow reset

I have Sharepoint 2013, but created a Workflow in Sharepoint designer with Sharepont 2010 Workflow to assign an auto-increment column to a list. I have tested the list and the auto-incrementing is working great, however now I want to actively use the list
in the 'real' working capacity, but when I've deleted the previously entered test items the auto-increment column proceeds to increase. How can I restart/reset the number back to where it should start? Is it possible? Or do I need to delete my list and start
all over again from scratch both list and workflow?

Hi Tam,
How did you set the workflow to assign an auto-increment column to a list?
If the workflow is different, then there should be different solutions.
If you are using another list to store the numbers for the auto-increment column, then you can modify the columns in that list to be the value that you want to start with.
Here is a link about using another list to recalculate the next number with workflow:
http://gihanmaduranga.blogspot.jp/2012/09/create-auto-increment-number-column-in.html
If that is case of your workflow, then you can edit the Last Number column in the Counter list to be a number which you want to start with.
If you are using a different solution, could you please provide the detail steps of how you set the auto-increment column?
Best regards.
Thanks

  • Auto increment field in database issue

    Ok, I have read all about the issues with the auto increment field when trying to hook my form up to a ms access database.
    My problem is that the auto increment field is the one field I want in my form.
    Any suggestions how to create a new record with my form? its a simple database, date field, and PO number (the auto incremented field)
    Just trying to get a fresh PO number on my PO form each time its filled out....

    I have a vital form that clients fill out, which is passed to many people in the company along the workflow. The form is a Planner and we have in the following PDF, Word Doc..
    Well before, the Planner.pdf was originally created in Word, since most people have access to Word.. but evolved to a PDF form created from the Word Doc via Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 w/ User Rights enabled so that the form could be filled out and saved using Adobe Reader.. which was a step better than Word.. being that it is free. But this needed to be easier and more to the point b/c some clients don't particularly like installing the latest version of Reader, even if you provide them the link. Nor do they like saving the form, filling the form, and attaching the form to send back.
    My goal is to have the client fill an HTML version of the form, submit and be done with it, but everyone in the workflow be able to easily receive the filled Planner as a PDF form.
    So some months ago I ran into this post Chris Trip, "Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP" #8, 22 Sep 2007 4:37 pm
    which uses the command line Win32 pdftk.exe to merge an FDF file into an existing PDF on the remote server, and serve this to whoever.
    My problem was with shared hosting and having the ability to use the Win32 pdftk.exe along with PHP which is predominantly used on Linux boxes. And we used a Linux box.
    so i created the following unorthodox method, which a client fills the HTML version of the Planner, all field values are INSERTED into a table in MySQL DB, I and all filled planners that have been filled by clients to date can be viewed from a repository page where an XML file is served up of the corresponding client, but someone would have to have Acrobat Professional, to import the form data from the XML file into a blank form.. altoughh this is simple for me.. I have the PHP file already created so that when a Planner is filled and client submits. >> the an email is sent to me with a table row from the repository of the client name, #, email, and a link to d-load the XML file,
    But I also have the PHP files created so that the Planner can be sent to by email to various people in the workflow with certain fileds ommitted they they do not need to see, but instead of the XML file beiong served up i need the filled PDF Planner to be served.
    I can do this locally with ease on a testing server, but I am currently trying to use another host that uses cross-platform compatibility so i can use PHP and the pdftk.exe to achieve this, as that is why I am having to serve up an XML file b/c we use a Linux server for our website, and cant execute the exe.
    Now that I am testing the other server (cross-platform host), just to use them to do the PDF handling (and it's only $5 per month) I am having problems with getting READ, WRITE, EXECUTE permissions..
    Si guess a good question to ask is can PHP do the same procedure as the pdftk.exe, and i can eleminate it.
    or how in the heck can i get this data from the DB into a blank PDF form, like i have described??

  • Creating auto-increment field in SharePoint List

    In SharePoint, we can create the auto-incremental field by many ways, I am going to discuss two ways of doing it.
    Calculated field
    Item Event Receiver
    1. Using Calculated field:
    Using this we can accomplish it without doing any programing and it is a relatively simple way of doing it. By using “Calculated” column in SharePoint List we can create auto-increment field. We can accomplish this by creating a new column and choosing the
    column type as “Calculated (calculation based on other columns)”. And in Formula field, we have to enter [ID]
    In fact this will be using the values from “ID” field from SharePoint list that starts from 1.
    For example, if we want to start our auto-increment column from 100, we can modify the “Formula” field of Create New column screen, we can have to enter [ID] + 99
    For detailed info please follow the blog I wrote here: http://faisalrafique.wordpress.com/2011/03/19/creating-auto-increment-field-in-sharepoint-list/
    2. Using Item Event Receiver:
    By using this strategy, users have advantage to edit the existing values, we can also avoid it by making field read-only on feature activation. Using item event receiver, on ItemAdded event, we have to find the highest value among previously added items
    and then save the incremented value to current newly created auto-incremental column.
    For code of event reciever please follow the blog I wrote here:
    http://faisalrafique.wordpress.com/2011/03/19/creating-auto-increment-field-in-sharepoint-list/
    Happy Coding

    Use Sharepoint Designer to create a Workflow for the list containing the field to increment. For my project I had an Invoice field that I wanted to start with 1001 and increment from there so I made the following workflow to do this.
    In the new workflow screen in Sharepoint Designer create two actions in Step 1:
    Calculate Current Item:ID plus 1000 (Output to Variable: calc)
    then Set AutoIncrementNumber to Variable: calc
    This is just a guide. If you just want the auto-increment to start with 1 then you can just use this step
    Set AutoIncrementNumber to Current Item:ID
    Also, make sure you select the correct name for your field in the Workflow action instead of AutoIncrementNumber.
    Save the Workflow, close it, and then open it again in Sharepoint Designer. Check the box for "Start workflow automatically when an item is created." Save it again and then click on the Publish button to make it active on the sharepoint site. The value should
    now increment for each new item created in the list.

  • Add an auto incremental value to TITLE field.

    Hi, i am currently working on a custom list in SharePoint 2010 and there is a title field. I would like to append an auto incremental variable to "Request" to make it look like:
    Request 1
    Request 2
    Request 3
    and so on...
    As you can see below, i tried to use the calculated value Request+ID, but it didn't work out. So is there anyway to solve this problem?
    <input name="ctl00$m$g_0bb0fcf5_65ea_4af9_ba76_7c0babad1a82$ctl00$ctl05$ctl00$ctl00$ctl00$ctl04$ctl00$ctl00$TextField"
    type="text" value="[Request-]&amp;[ID]"
    maxlength="50" id="ctl00_m_g_0bb0fcf5_65ea_4af9_ba76_7c0babad1a82_ctl00_ctl05_ctl00_ctl00_ctl00_ctl04_ctl00_ctl00_TextField"
    title="Title" class="ms-long ms-spellcheck-true" /><br />

    Hi andylow,
    You can also accomplish this without using a workflow but with a custom form on your list. To do this take the following steps:
    Make sure that the title field of your list is not a required value
    When you're in the list, click on the List tab in the ribbon
    There select "Customize Form"
    Your form will now open in InfoPath. In the right hand menu you will see all your data fields.
    Make the Title number field "Read Only". To do this right click the field, select properties, click on the second tab and select Read Only
    In the menu bar, click on Manage Rules
    Now click the Data tab in the menu and select Sumit Options
    In the menu that opens select the option to run rules before submit
    Now there will be a button available in the menu for Submit Options, click on that
    Now you can add rules and actions on the submit action
    Create a new Action rule and call it Initial Save
    As condition for the rule, set the condition that the Title field must be blank
    The first action of the rule will be to Submit the form. When the form is submitted it will be assigned an ID, before that will be blank
    Now add an Action to set a fields value.
    Select the Title field as the field to set
    You can set a hard coded value for the value to set but you can also click the function button, click on that
    Now another window opens where you can add fields, functions etc.
    Now first select the concat function from the function menu
    Then double click the first link in the resulting function and type Request
    Now double click the second link and select the ID field
    Now get rid of the last remaining arguments in the concat function
    Click OK until you're back in InfoPath
    Now set one more action to submit the form again
    Now ad a second rule and call that Edit
    As condition for the rule, set the condition that the Title field must be not blank
    Add the Submit Form action for this rule
    Now you can publish your form with the Quick Publish button. This is a Blue circle with a white upward arrow and a lightning bolt next to the save button in the top menu bar.
    Now when you add a new item and save it, the title will be set to Request&ID. When you edit the form no changes will be made.
    Cheers,
    Eduard Spelier

  • Auto-Increment ID for the Sharepoint 2010 List

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to have a SharePoint List with set of fields. One of the field should store the Custom ID field Ex: "2015-001". Numbers should auto increment the values i.e 011, 002 and so on.
    Can someone help me to achieve this requirement via Out-of-box.
    I tried using [ID] field and tried concatenating to bring up the value as "2015-001" but it didn't work and I read that [ID] field does not work as expected with the calculated column.
    I am aware there SP Designer workflow solution, JavaScript solution, List Adding Event Receiver solutions are available. I trying to find if there is any out-of-Box solution available.
    Share your thoughts/suggestion on this requirement

    Thanks Alex.
    We have used Infopath and we were able to achieve the Auto Increment requirement.
    There is another requirement:
    Created By and Created should be stamped together in the list. Ex: Field Name: Audit Trails - XXX,03/06/16/15, 05:08PM.
    I tried creating a field and used formula to concatenate Created By and Created field...but, When I Submit the form in Sharepoint List, Audit Trail Field is empty.
    I tried Submit/Receive data etc..but no luck
    Any Suggestions or thoughts?

  • How to use auto-increment and search option for MS Access DB

    Dear All,
               I have configured our invoice in Adobe Livecycle and connected it to MS Acess 2007 as per http://forms.stefcameron.com/2006/09/18/connecting-a-form-to-a-database/.
    All is working fine, I can insert, retrieve data from DB to invoice and vice versa.
    Now I want few things to be implemented on our invoice.
    When ever I open our invoice, it populate the first entry from DB, Is it possible to populate the last entry ?
    Auto increment invoice number from MS Access DB every time we open our invoice after save.
    How to implement search option from DB for invoice number ?
    Please let me know if someone can provide me help on my scenario, so that I can share more stuff related to invoice and DB.
    Look forward to hearing soon from experts and other team members.
    Thanks & Regards
    Riyad...

    As far as I know there is not any auto increment data type in Oracle. Instead of this you should create a sequence and get the next value of the sequence while creating a row in your table.
    CREATE SEQUENCE Test_Sequence ;
    CREATE TABLE Test_Table ( Id NUMBER , Foo VARCHAR2(4) ) ;
    ALTER TABLE Test_Table ADD CONSTRAINT Test_Table_PK_Id PRIMARY KEY ( Id ) ;
    INSERT INTO Test_Table ( Id , Information ) VALUES ( Test_Sequence.NEXTVAL , 'FOO' ) ;

  • Trying to create cmp correctly(auto-increment);error while running

    I am using the latest versions of Jboss(4.0.5.GA) and Lomboz(R-3.2-200610201336) along with SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver.
    Lomboz used xdoclet to create the java files based on the SQL table but it did not put anything in the DoctorBean.java file telling it that the primary key was auto-incremented.
    Using the JSP files, I can retreive data out of the database fine so I know the connection and drivers are set up properly.

    Fixed.

  • Auto increment with collection is not working

    I am using KODO 3.0 with MYSQL 4.0.16. I have created two JDO object as
    follows
    BankAccount contains a collection of Contacts object. My metadata looks
    like this
    <class name="BankAccount">
    <field name="contacts">
    <collection element-type="Contacts"/>
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="element-dependent"
    value="true"/>
    </field>
    </class>
    <class name="Contacts" objectid-class="Contacts$contactId">
    <field name="contactId" primary-key="true">
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="jdbc-auto-increment"
    value="true"/>
    </field>
    </class>
    There is no problem in the persisting of BankAccount object and adding
    Contacts to it, but Contacts collation is not retrieved along with parent
    object. In the database join table, the contact Id value it is always set
    to null.
    Things are working well with out contact id in Contacts.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards,
    dharmi

  • How can i create an auto increment column

    Hello Everyone
    We are working on an EAM package which has an auto number facility but that is not meeting our requirement because some 10s and 100s of numbers keep on jumping based on the number of records the child table has.Means every record in my parent table will have some child records in another table which we call it a child table.The number of numbers that will be jumped each time will depend on the number of child records it has. Now we want to create a new column and generate a sequential unique number in my parent table with out linking it to its child table and use this number as a reference number. And we cant do that through our package customization. Can any one guide us if we can meet our requirement through oracle triggers or so.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    For "Auto-Increment" functionality - you can use a combination of a sequence and a trigger like so:
    create table roles ( role_id INT
                       , role_name VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL
                       , creation_date DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE NOT NULL
                       , role_description VARCHAR2(255)
                       , CONSTRAINT roles_pk PRIMARY KEY (role_id)
                       , CONSTRAINT roles_uk1 UNIQUE (role_name)
    create sequence role_id_seq
    start with 1
    increment by 1
    nocache;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER roles_pk_trig
    BEFORE
    insert on roles
    for each row
    begin
    IF :new.role_id IS NULL THEN
       SELECT role_id_seq.NEXTVAL
       INTO :new.role_id
       FROM dual;
    END IF;
    end;
    /Now any insert which leaves the "ROLE_ID" column NULL will have an auto-incremented value put in for that column. This is similar to an "Autonumber" column in Access.
    Hope this helps...
    Take care.

  • Auto Increment of Primary Field in Table Maintainance

    Hi,
    We want to give an Auto increment to the Primary Key, when ever the table is updated/inserted with a new record. How to get the value updated????
    For Eg,
    Table ZTEST Contains     MANDT, ITEM,   EBELN.
    It should have the values 800    001   000977
    And when the next record is created, the ITEM value should be Automatically get the value 002.. and so on for every Record.
    Pls do let me know if any other details is reqd.
    Thanx in Advance.
    Ajaz

    Dear Syed,
       You can do many things in table maintenance screen like validation of some field, making some field required or displayed etc.
       For auto increment you have to use Number-Ranges. FM NUMBER_GET_NEXT is helpful in this case.
       Where to write the code??? The Function-Group you have made. There will be includes. You can easily locate the place to write these codes.
       Caution point is that if you re-generate the table maintenance then all code will be gone.
    Regards,
    Deva.

  • How to create auto increment value in my column using identity ?

    hi Team,
    I have an requirement where i create an auto increment value ,with my table column
    Create table Temp(
    DeptID int IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY,
    Name varchar(50),
    Emailid nvarchar(50),
    Phone varchar(50)
    so this is my table structure ,Here my column name is
    Deptid here i need to creat an autoincrement value with today's date like below
    ex:STM0000120012015
        STM0000221012015
        STM0000322012015(Currentdate)
    .......................................... like this
    Here i need  only one column like identity column with the given incremental order,not more than one column
    so can u pls help me out any one.
    Thanks!

    Here the output came like this ,
    1 STM0000120150121
    2 STM0000220150121
    3 STM0000320150121
    4 STM0000420150121

    and here i dnt need to increment that Stm000010,Here my output will come like this, idnt need to increment my charcter size
    1 STM0000120150121
    2 STM0000220150121
    3 STM0000320150121

    11    STM0001120150121
    12    STM0001220150121
    so here i dont  need to increment my charcter length(16)
    The length should be STM(3char)+00001(5Charcters)+CurrentDateFormat,

  • Auto-increment column increase performance in this case ?

    hi.
    i have the following facts to construct a set of tables.
    1. A Lecturer has an ID, Name and Date Joined
    2. A Classroom has an ID, Number Of Students
    3. A Lecturer can Teach in Many Classes
    4. A Class Can be lectured by Many Lecturers
    5. Each Lecture Date should be Stored in the DB.
    considering those facts, the following schema can be derived
    Lecturer
    (Lecturer_ID (PK), Lecturer_name, Date_Joined)
    Classroom
    (Classroom_ID (PK), NumOfStudents)
    Class_Lectures
    (Classroom_ID, Lecturer_ID (Composte PK), LectureDate)
    this is the normal practice we do.
    but what if the 3rd Table is constructed as follows ?
    Class_Lectures
    (LectureSeriesID (Auto-Increment, PK), Classroom_ID, Lecturer_ID (Composte Unique Key), LectureDate)
    if the 3rd Table is created as above, will there be any performance differences ? will the performance improve or get reduced ? any advantages / disadvantages of having that structure ?
    please do advise my any further best practices as well.
    Thanks and Regards
