Auto Lockbox Control file directory
Hello all,
I am trying Lockbox in AR. My doubt is where I have to place the Control file and Data file.
I have prepared the queries for control file, which format am I need to save.
Please guide me how to clear this issue.
Thanks and Regards,
Muthu
Hi Helios,
Thank you for your input. I placed the Data file and control file appropriate place.
While running lockbox (Navigation: Interfaces > Lockbox ), its completed successfully but in View output i'm not finding any data.
I am Herewith attaching the log output and Datafile, Control File FYI.
Please guide to complete my task.

how do i recover it
Thanks in advance.Do you have backup control file or auto backup control file by rman or not.
If you have backup, try recover controlfile from rman backup( you should know DBID).
Anyway If you don't have rman backup. so recreate controlfile (if you have backup control file to trace, you can use it):
1. Take a full backup of the database, including all datafiles and redo
log files.
2. Connect / as sysdba or as sys user and do a STARTUP NOMOUNT.
3. Issue the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement.
More information on Oracle.

4. Perform media recovery on the database.
RECOVER DATABASE
5. Open the database.

Control File Auto Backup Alert Log
Hello-
Is there a parameter in the 11g database that needs to be configured to write to the alert log when the controlfile is auto-backed up ?
I have this configured but there are no entries in the alert logs for 11g databases.
I do have them in my 10g alert logs.
Thanks-No there is no such parameter.
It seems that Oracle 11g does not write anything to alert log when control file is auto backed up but instead writes to a trace file in diagnostic_dest directory tree:

How to recover datafile.when control file auto backup is off
hi friend
i took hot backup of my database using following command
rman>backup database;
in my case controlfile auto backup is off.
and i have lost my all controlfiles as well as datafiles except spfile.
i have recovered control file using dbms_backup_restore package.
know i am able to mount database using following command
rman> startup mount;
when i wrote following command
rman> restore database;
i got following error
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile name found to restore
enven i have backup of datbase.
can anybody tell me how to recover datafiles in this case.
thanking you
sohailhi,
I think you might have a problem here as the error from RMAN is described in the following metalink note
Doc ID: Note:100565.1
You should change you backup script to be something like
rman {
backup database include current controlfile;
do you have any earlier backups of your database?

Can there be two control file auto file backups one to disk and one to tape ?
Thanks,Hi

and I am getting the errors below in my alert.log.
There are about ten old copies on the disk. How do these get purged ?

Control file and spfile auto backup backup is failing
Hello All,
I am using Oracle RAC 11gR2 with ASM. My database is 2 nodes RAC1 and RAC2.
I am taking RMAN database backups to ASM diskgroup (FRA) and to a Network File System mounted on both RAC1 and RAC2. I have this requirement to take backup also outside ASM.
I have set: CONFIGURE CONTROL FILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
I am runing the RMAN backup job from node 2 (RAC2)
I am facing the below error when taking a backup to the Network File system;

CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'location_of_shared_storage%F'; -
Hello-
I was looking over some configurations that was setup by another DBA.
There are 3 control files created but they all are on the same disk/directory.
Control file auto backup is on to tape.
If there was a hardware failure and all three control were corrupted/lost then a backup would be used but
full recovery and RESETLOGS would be needed which would lead to redo data loss.
If I configured 1 control file on a seperate disk. I would be able to copy this one and create 3 files again and the database
would be started again without needing recovery if all else was fine.
If the control keeps track of redo logs SCN, Archive logs history and RMAN backups when these change then wouldn't another control file backup/ trace need to be done ?
Control File Trace only alllows to rebuild the database not to copy. How often is the need to taken ? Every change in the database ?
Backup to the Flash Recovery is another backup not an updated copy to copy from but to restore/recovery with.
Do have have these theories correct and my best setup would to send at least one to another disk.
Thanks-If there was a hardware failure and all three control were corrupted/lost then a backup would be used but
full recovery and RESETLOGS would be needed which would lead to redo data loss. No. If you lose all three controlfiles, you either
a. RESTORE a backup of the controlfile
OR
b. CREATE CONTROLFILE (from a script)
In either case, you do NOT need to do an INCOMPLETE Recovery. You will be doing a COMPLETE Recovery (if you have the Online Redo Logs). However, an OPEN RESETLOGS is still required. The %r in the log_archive_format since 10g allows ArchiveLogs to be retained through ResetLogs.
If the control keeps track of redo logs SCN, Archive logs history and RMAN backups when these change then wouldn't another control file backup/ trace need to be done ? If you RESTORE the controlfile you lose no information. However, you still have to OPEN RESETLOGS.
If you do a CREATE CONTROLFILE, yes, you lose information about ArchiveLogs history and RMAN Backups.
You can issue a CATALOG command to re-catalog available Backups.
Control File Trace only alllows to rebuild the database not to copy.A Control File Trace is to recreate the Controlfile. Not rebuild the database.
Backup to the Flash Recovery is another backup not an updated copy to copy from but to restore/recovery with. I don't understand what your statement or question might be here.

we use oracle 10.2.0.4 at ASM with RAC in redhat linux 5.
how to add 2 additional control file to ASM for RAC ?
Please provide a procedur in detail.
Thanks
JimHi damorgan & Friends,
I could not find some infomration to add control into ASM . I can do this job( see below procedure) in no ASM .
My question, our database locates at ASM and control file with a system auto-number ( fully qualified filename ) as
+DATA1/SALE/controlfile/current.256.690290159
How do I physical copy and rename other 2 contril file in directory and modify location in pfile?
I saw some paper to use request as an alias (such as +dgroup2/control/ctl.f). i can not image to copy/rename control.
Please help me!!
Thanks
Jim

Best script for recreating control file
Hi
Yesterday I had a lot of fun trying to refresh a Dev db with an inconsistent backup (just learned that the offline backup from that night finished late and not before the db was started up again, thus making datafile inconsistent).
Today I will try again. I am waiting for the tape backup to finish restoring to the Dev datafile directory.
I would love to know if there is a template out there, or if we can agree here, for the best standard for recreating a control file through a @script.
I will include the one I intend to use here, minus the datafiles.
I am using the RESETLOGS, since we are using :"SET" database.

AIX 5.2
Oracle 9.2I normally break it up into seperate scripts (even though the "trace" file generates a single script file).
1. The first is the CREATE CONTROLFILE itself. If successful , it also mounts the database.
The most important portion is to validate that we do have ALL the datafiles included.
(eg if you are generating from an old controlfile backup and some new datafile(s) have been added since that backup you had better ensure that you add them to the script , else the RECOVER DATABASE will ignore them and they will be unrecoverable after the OPEN RESETLOGS !)
2. The next portion is the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE which I never run non-interactively.
Always ensure that it is NOT an interactive run. If you really have more than a dozen archivelogs to apply, then you could just enter AUTO after supplying the first 3 or 4 archivelogs and wait for the RECOVER DATABASE to "error" out after it applies the last archivelog.
3. The next portion is a manual RECOVER to apply any Archivelogs that couldn't be applied by the AUTO -- eg Archives that weren't on disk but which I've restored OR the actual last Active/Current Online Redo Logs that hadn't been applied.
between step 3 and step 4,
to be safe : I could SHUTDOWN (it is MOUNTED but not OPEN) and take a Cold Backup of the database files and controlfiles. -- This can help me retry a RESETLOGS or restore a datafile that I might have mistakenly excluded from the CREATE CCF script
and re-"recover" database -- meaning that Oracle will recover that datafile alone.
4. Finally I review the alert.log, satisfy myself that I have applied all archivelogs and then manually issue the ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
5. Now I add TEMPFILEs (if 10g hasn't done it "automagically")
6. If I have time, take a Cold Backup OR initiate a Hot Backup asap.
I know that 10g now provides supported methods of recovering through a RESETLOGS, based on Incarnation ID, ... but still , old habits and old commands die hard.
Have I answered your question about how to format the CREATE CCF ? No. But I've just added some inputs on how I prefer the next few steps be done.

Drop a datafile from physical standby's control file
Hi,
I am trying to create a physical standby database for my production...
1) I have taken cold backup of my primary database on 18-Nov-2013...
2) I added a datafile on 19-nov-2013 ( 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF' )
3) Standby control file was generated on 20-ov-2013 (today) after shutting down and then mounting the primary database...
When i try to recover the newly setup standby using archive files, i am getting the following error (datafile added on 19th Nov is missing)
SQL> recover standby database;

ORA-01110: data file 39: 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF'
How to overcome this situation...
Can i delete the entry for the newly added datafile from the backup control file ?

Hi,
What is your version?
If you added new datafile or created new tablespace, take backup again for restore new created standby database.
If your standby database running well, DG configuration success, then this datafile will create on standby side, too.
Set STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO best practice.

Not need any delete datafile from standby side, you must recreate standby database, or you can take RMAN backup and restore to standby side again.

My experience of location of the control file
Just learn bad experience by putting control file on a remote server.
My original idea with the remote drive was to spread out th risk of losing all control files on the same location. But with one on remote drive it means
1. That remote server has to be always on. I can not shut it down for other purpose especially when the remote server is my test server.
2. My current oracle home was setup with a link directory from one drive to another local drive (by a previous Contractor). BAD for the startup if using the pfile. I have to include the total path of the pfile, even the init. ora file is in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, when I use modified pfile to startup.
ex startup pfile='/total_path/init.ora'
however I can use below to create a new init.ora file that saves into the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
create pfile='init.ora' from spfile;
So I am going to change the location of my control file to one of the local drives, just different to that of other control files.
This is my 2 cents opinion. Welcome any comments. Thanks.I think I can move second copy of redo log back to the server but at different hd when the Oracle is running. right?
by dropping the inactive one group and recreate the group while other current group is on. But very becareful
( I have practiced on my test machine to drop one member, but 10g does not allow)
I configured the flash_recovery to the drive where also store one copy of the archivelog. Since there is not much space left one other two drives, so I put other copy of the archivelog on a remote server. -
I have a problem while installing 9iAS R2 on RH LInux 8.
When database configuration assistant starts during the installation of 9iAS infrastructure, it gives an error "Error creating CONTROL FILE" followed by many other errors.
Please help me out.
ZulqarnainI had the same problem, but with RH9
To fix, I ran orapwd from the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory to create a password file called orapw. Then I moved this file to the directory where the configuration assistant complains it cannot find the file. Fixed. Obviously, just ignore the errors from the configuration assistant about the CONTROL FILE until it tells you the location of the file it is looking for. -
Dynamic location for RTF file in Bursting Control File
Hi
I have a query that determines the directory location of the RTF file on the server. (eg. query returns /u01/apps/erpd2/inst/apps/erpd2_mcdeagaix821/temp/XMCI_B2CR009_RFS.rtf
Instead of hard-coding this location as:
<xapi:template type="rtf" location="/u01/apps/erpd2/inst/apps/erpd2_mcdeagaix821/temp/XMCI_B2CR009_RFS.rtf">
</xapi:template>
I change the above to
<xapi:template type="rtf" location="${RTF_LOC}">
</xapi:template>
and fetch RTF_LOC at the bursting level in the Data template.
After specifying the location as a token in the bursting control file, the Bursting program errors out. It does not even go to the post-processing stage.
I have fetched the Outbound SMTP server name in a similar fashion and specified the same as a token in the Bursting XML. It works fine. Also, when I hard-code the same RTF location in the bursting file, it works! Just specifying it as a token errors out the bursting process.
Pls advise.
RituHi Ritu,
I am probably too late to help you, but here is an answer for completeness. I had the same problem as you, I needed to make my template selection dynamic.
The bursting control file below was not working until I applied patch 8594771 (BURSTING DOES NOT SUPPORT ESCAPE CHARACTERS LIKE "FIRST LAST <[email protected]>" )
I managed to find this patch by running the XML Publisher Report Bursting Program with debug=Yes and got the message "java.util.zip.ZipException: ZIP file must have at least one entry". Searching on Oracle Support for this message delivered patch number 8594771
Here is my control file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi" type="bursting">

RC-50004: Fatal: Error occurred in ApplyDatabase: Control file creation fai
Hi guys,
I am cloning and EBS 12.1.3 from one server to another, and when Configuring the target system database server with ''perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier'', I am getting the following error:
RC-50004: Fatal: Error occurred in ApplyDatabase:
Control file creation failed
MOS is saying that it is due to wrong permissions on the /var/tmp/.oracle directory and we should give it the following permissions:
chmod 777 /var/tmp/.oracle
After giving those permissions and rebooting the server , and running the perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier script, I am still having the same problem:
RC-50004: Fatal: Error occurred in ApplyDatabase:
Control file creation failed
This is the contents of the ApplyDBTier log file (since the file exceed 30.000 characters, i am going to post the parts where the errors occur:

Please guys, how can I solve this problem?@Hussain Sawwan
Hi Hussain,
After successfully configured the DbTier and AppsTier with their respective post clone scripts the appstier was automatically started at the end.
But now, I can't seem to connect with my IE 9 and Firefow browsers.
