Auto refresh, passing item name

Hi all
I have a page which needs to automatically refresh each ten minutes. It may be navigated away from and back to and in this situation, I don't want the report which is cached to be re-run. If the page is left for ten minutes, the page should reload and the report should re-run.
This should all be quite simple, I have two processes, one on submit when a user presses a button and another on load when a hidden item is set to load.
The refresh code is as follows with the hidden item P0_LOAD being set to R which does not appear to be passed to the app. Is the following syntax correct and if not what have others done to get around this please?

Formatted Search is not auto-refreshed when Item Description changes

Hi all,
I have a UDF "Packing Details" at Goods Receipt screen row level.
My formatted search setting is the field should be auto-refreshed when Item No is changed.
1) I press TAB at Item No and choose an Item, Packing Details UDF will auto-refresh. (No problem)
2) However, if i press TAB at Item Description and choose an Item, Packing Details UDF will not auto-refresh. I need to press SHIFT+F2 to make packing details appear.
I try the same setting at Goods Receipt PO, the Packing Details UDF will refresh automatically regardless i choose the item from Item No or Item Description.
Is anyone face this problem before?

I have told this to customer before, but they prefer to have 'Refresh' on both Item Code and Item Description.
I think we have no choice but let the customer to choose either one, right?

Auto Refresh work items in POWL iview

Hi Experts,
We are using EP 7.3 and ECC 6.0 EHP 5. MSS add-on 1.0
We are using MSS Inbox as POWL.
When we processed any work item in Inbox, the same work item still appearing (after approve) in inbox. When we click on "Refresh" link the approved work item is disappearing. Every time click on "Refresh" link is difficult.
Link to refresh work task items is available but user requires this to be done automatically upon processing of an item.

here refresh type is empty.
I Changed Refresh type to "OPTIMISTIC".
changes are reflected in table IBO_C_WF_ACC
Not in table IBO_C_WF_ACS
do i need to change the Refresh type in Standard table IBO_C_WF_ACS also?
issue is not fixed after changed in Refresh type also. please let me know if i missed any step?
Issue: Manager approving Travel request in MSS inbox using POWL. when Manager clickes Task new window will open to approve/Reject. when he approved, the work item is not refreshed until click on "Refresh" link in POWL inbox.

How to make use of Listener to auto refresh items in SelectOneMenu

Hi,
I have a transaction jsp page that make use of the SelectOneMenu of which the Selectitems for example consists of all the item_code are added to the dropdownitems through the sessionBean1 ArrayList.
The problem started when new item_code are being added to the SQL tables using other JSP that allow user to input new item code.
JSF transaction page using SelectOneMenu could not effectively updated the options to include and reflect the new item subsequently added simply because the page has been rendered to the user .
I believe using some sort of listener , whenever any action or event took place , JSP that are having the particular UI components being rendered could be auto refresh at the client side of JSP html page.
Could anyone provide some hints?

Thank for the suggestion,
In fact I am looking for two possiblity on how to overcome this sort of issues,
Firstly , if the JSF page has not been rendered , you could always make use of the sessionbean1 to do the job , for example if you add a new item to the selectOneMenu dropitems, you could make use of this method to update the list of items in the dropitems , though it would always be the last items on the sorted list .
Secondly , using some sort of autorefresh to push to the client to inform the user that new item have been added , advise them to manual refresh the page.
I am in fact using the first method to add new item to the dropdownmenu for those JSP that involve page forwarding and redirect such as shopping basket / cart beans .
My concern is when displaying the list of real-time shopping items available to the user , method 1 would not work at all , simply because JSF page was already rendered to the user browser, only beaming alerting message seems to be able to overcome such shortcoming when scenario demand realtime.

How can I make firefox highlight new unread items on Drudge when the page auto-refreshes

So I read Drudge Report and checkit a few times a day. It would be nice to have the unread news items highlighted. The new items that appear after the page auto refreshes. It just occurred to me whilst writing this that I would have to open every link on the page to make the task of highlighting new content easier. I don't know but if there's a way to have the new unread items highlighted it would save time scanning the whole page for new stuff.

Can the Item Name be passed to Javascript?

Is there a way to capture the Item Name (or any unique identifier) from the button that was clicked to trigger a javascript? (I'm working in Captivate 5.5, but others are on 6.0, so I can take either answer if different)
To provide context, I have a simulation where the user has to make three different choices from three different drop down boxes (choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert), each choice stored in a variable. The user then has to assign the three selections to one of 20 places. Each of the 20 places has 3 variables each to capture the choices for each dining position.
My problem is that I have to write 20 different Advanced Actions to assign the 3 user choices to the 3 variables for that dining position. While straightforward enough, as I think through expanded options for the simulation, that will be a complete pain to make changes. My desire is to write a Javascript that 'constructs' the variable name needed for the cpEISetValue function, so that the same script can be used for each of the 20 buttons. I know how to the construction part of the variable name, but to do that I would need some kind of unique information about the button that was clicked to construct its unique variable names for the choices.

Yes, this is possible:
Drop a smart shape onto your canvas and set it to work as a button.
Right-click it and Add Text. This will enable the Format section in the properties panel.
Under the Format section, choose a Captivate Variable to be the text of your smartshape button.
When the button is clicked, you can execute some javascript to get the name of the button like so:
alert('Button Name: ' + document.Captivate.cpEIGetValue('m_VarHandle.btnName'));
Where btnName is the Captivate user variable that you're displaying in your smartshape text. That JavaScript should pop up an alert box with the name of the button.
You can also set the name of your button from JavaScript if you needed:
document.Captivate.cpEISetValue('m_VarHandle.btnName', 'Save');
This would make your button read "Save" in your project.

Hot to get ITEM NAME

is it possible to use *#CURRENT_ITEM_NAME#* in a function parameter?
I want a function based validation and create a function. Then I created a element validation in my page with the PL/SQL-Expression Type and insert this code to start the function.
rpf.vornamecheck(:#CURRENT_ITEM_NAME#)= 1
In this point I dont want to insert the name of the Item manualy, because if I change the item name i also have to change it in the parameter of this validation.
I test it a lot of times, but it doesn't work. Is there a other way to get the Name of an item (NOT LABEL)??

I understand completely what you mean and I agree that it would be very good to have more ways to indirectly reference things to avoid
hard coding page numbers and column_names. I am a newbie also and did not know javascript but I quickly discovered that it was easier to deal with javascript than to try to do things via plsql because javascript is easily available in the running page whereas to call plsql you have
to know a lot more about the page load and page submit and partial page refresh and ajax and so forth. I simply do not know myself if there is a way that a change or blur can trigger a plsql check of that which changed. Maybe so using html_db? There's a big gap in my brain regarding that. I have made a personal choice to just go with javascript and not have to tackle the other ways of doing this because they
are actually harder to understand than I am finding it to learn javascript.
This is the two part javascript way. In this example we call a very simple javascript function timehourCheck which is defined in the
javascript section of the page (other locations are possible). If it doesn't like the hour it actually nukes the item value. Note passing this the event object to the function. Some things 'this' has are this.id (the id which is what you asked about) and this.value the value.
so a question would be is there an equivalent plsql based way of creating the kind of information passing that is obtained via the
this event object in javascript?

Broadcasting of workbooks, auto-refresh and other questions

Hello Reporting gurus.
Our users run BEX Analyser queries but this is evolving towards more automation and fancy things. A lot of threads exist on the subject but I have not been able to find clear answers. We are on BI 7.
1) How do we use the broadcaster to refresh workbooks and output the results to a network share drive.
2) Queries being part of the workbooks work with user input variables. Do I have to change all queries (or create new ones identical) with user exits variables to fill in the fields for auto-refreshing w(ith let say the current year and current fiscal period etc...) ?
3) Is it possible to create a parameter input screen to pass on variables values to the broadcaster before the auto-refresh takes place so that I don't have to create user exit variables ?
4) How can we view workbooks with the BEX WEB Analyser ? Or do we have to create an application with WAD ?

in Analyzer you have an menu entry publish with BI broadcaster, then a broadcaster will appear. there you can create a setting. inside that setting you can use a variant and with SPS 13 also variable sets. There you can define the users who should receive the updated workbook by mail. It is not possible to save to file system, but you can save in Portal.Web Analyzer is only to use with WAD and is not able to process Workbooks.

Pass column-name as a parameter to reports

the code below calls a report. But now I want to sort the rows in the report. For example I have a text-item in my form-modul. If I type a column-name and press the button then the rows should be sorted in the report. Is it possible tp pass column-names as parameter to reports?

the work has been done in reports. You can use a lexical parameter in reports to add a condition for sorting to the query like:
select .. from .. where ... &p_order.
Then add another parameter to the report (for example p_param). Fill p_param via your interface in forms (SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_OTHER, ....) with the column name. Then build a report trigger like:
if :p_param is null
then
:p_order:= null;
else
:p_order:= 'order by '||:p_param;
end if;
But have a look, that p_param can only get correct values.

Auto-refresh formatted search is not working properly...

I have created a User Defined Field in Item Master named: FLD1 (Alphanumeric 30)
Then I have created a User Defined Field in Marketing Documents Row: FLD1 (Alphanumeric 30)
Now I want as follows u2013
In Marketing Documents if I select any Item, the value saved in FLD1 in the Item Master will come automatically in the Field FLD1 of the Marketing Document.
I did as follows u2013
I have created a formatted search for the above marketing document (in Sales Quotation) for the field FLD1 as follows u2013
Option: Search in Existing User-Defined Values according to Saved Query
Query: GetItemFLD1 (SELECT $[OITM.U_FLD1] )
Option: Auto Refresh -
When Exiting Altered Column
Field: Item Description
Option: Display Saved User-Defined Values
But the above is not working automatically --- after saving the document if I click on the Formatted Search Marker then the value comes otherwise not.
Can any one please explain the reason behind?

Actualy,the profile "OM: Quick Sales Order Form: Auto Refresh" has been setted into 'Line' firstly as we want to auto-refresh order lines.
So the 'auto refesh' checkbox is checked with default value in the screen,
but the order line would not be auto-refreshed when user uncheck the checkbox manually.
So we want to disable or invisible the 'auto refesh' item in the screen with form personalize,
the problem is i can not find the item or the block in the form.
Or is there any suggestions to archive this?

I've created a Formated Search in one of my column.
I defined my formated search as :
- Auto refresh "When Exiting Altered Column" Item No.
- Display Saved Values.
Now how can I make it Auto refresh with two conditions?
- Auto refresh "When Exiting Altered Column" Item No.
And
- Auto refresh "When Field Changes" Customers/Vendor Code.
- Display Saved Values.
Is there any way to make it work?

Hi Bruce,
You could try this trick.
You need to execute SELECT1 in Col1 when Item No. column is altered or the Customer code is changed.
Then, in the Item No. column asign a new Formatted Search which selects the Item No. column value (Its value) when the Customer code is changed.
And in the Col1 asign a formatted search that acts when the Item No. column is altered.
I think this should do the trick.

Flatten to XML does not save Item Names of ListBox to XML file.

On my Front Panel, I have a ListBox Indicator that has Strings from which the User can select. Also the User can edit items in the ListBox to add new elements. After the user selects one and pushes my Save button, I use the Flatten to XML function to save the selection in an XML file. But Flatten to XML only saves the Value (index of the selected item(s)) to the XML file and not the ListBox Item Names. That is enough information to reconstruct which of the String data that the user selected.
In a ListBox where a User is selecting among a list of Strings, shouldn't the Flatten to XML function also store the String(s) that were selected?

I disagree. A ListBox that contains Stings to select from is full of String information. Both I and the User entered those Strings into the ListBox. It is the only data in the Listbox that we see. How to fix a website that auto refreshes to not open up in a new tab.

I use a scheduling website for work that auto refreshes. Sometimes when the page auto refreshes it opens up the current page I am on in a new tab instead of just refreshing in that tab like it usually does.
I have reset safari multiple times and it doesn't help. Any idea what I need to do?

When you enter a search term in the Firefox location bar and press Enter, Firefox will per default do a "I'm feeling lucky" Google search and redirect you to the first result that matches your search term. FireFox won't auto-refresh specific site, other browsers do. How can I get FF to auto-refresh?

I have a Help Desk application (everything HelpDesk) with a web interface. I keep my queue screen open so I can see new tickets come in and check status of existing tickets. FireFox does not auto-refresh this queue page so that new items or status changes show up. The page must be manually re-loaded in FireFox. However, other browsers (Chrome, IE, Safari) auto-refresh the queue page just fine. How can I get FireFox to auto-refresh this page?

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
