Automate and Schedule the launch of an Application

Greetings All,
I was looking for some help in starting an application to automatically run on a scheduled basis (like once a month, or weekly for example), regardless of the user who is logged in.
The laptops are setup as the following: there is an admin account (administrative priveleges). The laptops are bound to my OSX (OD) server and my users enter their credentials to log into that server and access their roaming profiles.
I would like an application (a managed software update app) to automatically launch once every two weeks (or once a month) regardless of who logs in. Either those users or the admin locally.
Is this possible using Apple Script/Automator? If so could anyone point me in the right direction?

I've had the same problem more than once since I started trying to download my 14 April purchase of OS X Mountain Lion.
I found a property list called manifest.plist in my ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder which had a Boolean property called failed checked. I unchecked it and afterwards I was able to resume my download.
Here are some steps I've found useful:
Close the Mac App Store.
make a copy of the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder. For some strange reason the Mac App Store likes to just delete it in some circumstances, which will mean that one has to start one's download again from the very beginning.
Double click on the manifest.plist in one's ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder.
This should open it in Property List Editor.
Expand all the nodes (holding down the alt key and clicking on the highest collapsed node should do it.
Find a key called failed of type Boolean and uncheck it.
Save the manifest.plist and close it.
Open the Mac App Store.
The red message "an error has occured" should now be gone and one should be able to resume one's download.
In the event that the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder gets deleted:
start the download again (it will start from the beginning), pause it and close the Mac App Store.
copy your backup copy of the pkg file back to its sub-folder (it's a numbered folder in the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder).
Open the Mac App Store and resume your download.
It should continue from where it left off.
This has worked for me so far. I'm holding my breath. Don't know if I'll still be alive when it's finished.

As far as installing Application Server (contains Oracle Portal) goes, I suggest using the installation guides for your platform. These are available on the Application Server documentation library page on OTN at http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver101202.html.

Linking a cell automatically and abbreviating the link?

I have a table that lists the domains I have. The first column is the domain name, and the 2nd column I'd like to have a link to the WHOIS info. This link would be something like: http://www.domaintools.com/domainname.com, which is the concatenation of "http://www.domaintools.com/" and the cell to the left, like so:
=CONCATENATE("http://www.domaintools.com/", A3)
The problem is that this ends up being a big ugly "http://www.domaintools.com/domainname.com" when I'd rather it just say "WHOIS". I also want it to be a link, which it's not right now.
Anyone have an idea on how I would accomplish this?

I newbie to Oracle ADF,my requirement is like, In DB table encoded pdf data is available I am able to view the the encodes data in ADF app but I want to decoded pdf. In my app I decoded the encoded data but it comes as text format like' %PDF-1.4

It would be helpful if you describe what did not work with the sample. The sample reads the pdf from a file whereas you need to load it from a blob in the DB.
You can use my sample, which need some setup, so don't run it as is, http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/handling-imagesfiles-in-adf-part-4/ which shows how to do this with blobs read from the db.

I have a requirement.
I am developed a time sheet application using web dynpro. This application is configured on the portal & is working fine. Now, I want to make some changes, may be at Portal Content side or Application side, but want this -
As soon as the User loges into the Windows with user id & password, this timesheet application residing on the portal should start automatically and should record the time. Similarly, if the user shuts-down, the application should again record the time. Thus giving the actual time the user worked.

Below are the comments on your queries.
1. It would be better if the application starts silently. But, in case, if we choose other way i.e the browser opens automatically and displays the application (expecting the button needs to be clicked by the user) that will also do.
2. In case of system shut-down, I am still to come up with some materialized concept. But, here are few ideas...
a). The application should check if the time entry is available for the current date. If so, should display the text for LogOut only. This will make user understand not to hit it.
b). It should keep on accepting all the sessions (logging & logout) n number of times for the current date.
I would prefer (b) as a better option.
If you have some more conceptual idea, please suggest.

Eggshell Design have you tried removing and reinstalling the Creative Cloud desktop application? You can find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.

Apps shuts down automatically and safari froze

when i use applications like werule , warchess, or others, apps just shut down automatically and shows the homescreen. is there a problem with the memory? or is this a normal behavior after using apps just for an hour and so? and when it happens safari won't do anything and froze. what do i do? should i restart the ipad whenever it happens

You can shut down and restart your iPad to see if this helps.
If not, you may want to reset the iPad and reinstall / resync it.
If that still doesn't help, make an appointment with the expert bar at an apple store or call support for assistance.

If you read the Systems Manager manual you can find how to use the short cut to
start your application using the ftcmd or ftexec.
The following is an example of one that I use.

I'm guessing what really needs to be closed is the launch server window,
right? That's the one that runs as an "MS-DOS" box in the task bar.
The launcher is just the little applet that can run other applications.
As far as we have been able to discover here, the only way to make the
launch server close after the application exits is to code it into your
application. Forte doesn't really want to close it though, because it is
used to fire off any and all application that get run using "ftcmd" or
the LaunchService.RunApplet method call.
If you don't need to use Forte's application distribution mechanism
(i.e. having it create icons in "Forte Applications" for you), you can
do as mentioned earlier and run things as an "ftexec" instead of an
"ftcmd".
It would be nice if Forte let you decide what type of icon you want it
to create when you install an application on a given node.

Try setting FORTE_LAUNCHER_CLOSE=TRUE. This is supposed to
shut down the
launcher after an application is launched. The default is FALSE.
You can hide the console window when launched via FTExec by:
aW : Window = new();
aW.windowsystem.ConsoleWindowDisplayState = DS_HIDDEN;

Preventive maintenance automatic creation of the Work Order

Hi,
I created a performance based maintanance plan, ans scheduled it.
When I created the measurement document that would trigger a maintanence call, I could see it in the IP10 with the status 'Scheduled Save to Call'.
Shouldnt the call object get created without any intevention? Am I missing missing any step?

Just create a background job for IP30. It will run "nightly" and evaluate the counters and their settings to determine if a maintenance order should be created. You create this job in SM37 and schedule the program RISTRA20 with a variant to run sometime during the night hours so as to not affect system performance.
