Automate dimension/data load update in Planning?

Without App Link and Translator (clients not buy), how to automate dimension/data load update in the planning? Any sample?

I did the tests in Windows 2003 Server with Planning 9.3.1.
1. 'bug 6829439: Task Flow is always set to active although the job has completed successfully'.
I had a flow with 2 tasks. In this case when I launch the job it remains in a '4% complete' state because once the first task is completed, the systems doesn't put the task in 'completed' state and thus doesn't start the second one.
2. 'bug 6785224: Manage TaskFlow does not show with interface tables'.
When working with interface tables one cannot schedule taskflows.
A colleague of mine working for another client has already opened up calls with Hyperion regarding this issues. Hyperion provided the bug numbers and informed us they will be fixed in version 9.5.
3. Now I am testing ODI connectors on a Planning 9.2 systems and have some small problems (I've just opened a thread on this forum).

To follow up on your question are you using the maxl scripts for the dataload?
If so I have seen and issue within the batch (ex: load_data.bat) that if you do not have the full maxl script path with a batch when running it through event task scheduler the task will work but the log and/ or error file will not be created. Meaning the batch claims it ran from the task scheduler although it didn't do what you needed it to.
If you are using maxl use this as the batch
"essmsh C:\data\DataLoad.mxl" Or you can also use the full path for the maxl either way works. The only reason I would think that the maxl may then not work is if you do not have the batch updated to call on all the maxl PATH changes or if you need to update your environment variables to correct the essmsh command to work in a command prompt.

Outline load utility Data load error in Planning

Hi,
We are loading the data using OutlineLoad utility in Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1,but data is not loading and the log file showing the below error.
Unable to obtain dimension information and/or perform a data load: com.hyperion.planning.olap.NoAvailableOlapConnectionsException: Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator.

Here are some options
1) Use standars packages and schedule them :
A) Openhub masterdata file into a flat file/ BPC App server and Schedule the package - Import Master Data from a Data File and other relevent packages.
2 ) Using Custom Tasks in Custom Packages ( SSIS)
Procedure
From the Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence Developer Studio, open the Microsoft SSIS folder.
Create a new package, or select an existing package to modify.
Choose Task Register Custom Task .
In the Task Location field, browse for the target .dll file.
Note
By default, the .dll files are stored in BPC/Websrvr/bin.
End of the note.
Enter a task description, select an appropriate icon, then click OK.
Drag the icon to the designer window. Enter data as required.
Save the package.

Data load Error to Planning

I have created One Interface for loading data to Planning Application i have make the Account Dimension as Load dimension and Segment as Driver dimension (member is Audio)

As it is comma separated and all the members for the POV need to be together try enclosing it in quotes e.g "USD,E01_0 ,Jan,Current,Working,FY11"

Automate Master data loads in BPC7(MS)

I need to update dimension members in SAP BPC7 (MS) from an external source.
The source system for my current project is BW, but if you have done any automated master data loads from any other system or even from a "temp" table please post your solution or tips.

Hi Mezert,
Would like to chime in with some of the things I've learned about this process over 3-4 years I've spent with BPC/Outlooksoft:
-- Automating maintenance of the dimension/master data might be the biggest single weakness of the BPC solution on the MS platform. It's one of the big reasons that the Netweaver platform basically replaces DTS/SSIS and has more direct linkage to BI/BW cubes and master data (InfoCubes).
-- It is also one a very common issue and in fact, you will have to deal with what the old-timers in BI call "slowly-changing dimensions" at almost every client eventually. For instance, you have a list of proucts/materials that every so often someone adds an item to. ...Well, before you can enter anything for it in BPC, you have to add the dimension member, of course.
-- So far, this challenge has been met by bringing in specialist DTS/SSIS experts in most cases who can employ the special "Custom Tasks" and build one of these packages to run in an automated way to populate the tables inside SQL Server and then execute the Admin MakeDim task to process the cube/application.
-- Usually the development/testing/deployment of these solutions is a non-trivial undertaking. It can be done, but there are peculiar challenges.
-- One example of a challenge is what happens if you need a dimension with > 65,000 members? Well, it can be created and populated by a DTS package, however, when you check the package and the custom task from the old Outlooksoft stuff out, you see that it CLEARS the entire dimension table before re-filling it. ...Yep, it wouldn't allow an "Append" function to run.
-- A second example of a peculiar challenge is that unless you update the Excel Dimension Sheet, you will have to do all the updates in SQL Server Mgmt. Studio and really won't be able to touch the BPC Admin again for that dimension.
Apologies for such a long post, but this is a fairly significant issue and I have to do a lot of research to piece together some of these things. ...If anyone else has something to add as a best-practice, please post.

ERPI: Data Loading problem Hyperion Planning & Oracle EBS

I am trying to load data from Oracle EBS to Hyperion Planning.
When i push data Zero rows are inserted in Target.
When i look at Table " SELECT * FROM TDATASEG "
It is showing me data but it is not comminting data in Target application.
The reason is Data difference in Source (EBS) and Target.
In my source Year is 2013 but in Target 'FY14' so for Entity Source is '21' but Target is '2143213'
Can you please let me know how to solve this issue?
can i place a Lookup table for this in EPRI.
i am using EPRI and ODI to push data.

Have you setup the data load mapping correctly to map the source value to the proper target value? Based on what you are describing it seems that the system generated * to * map is being used, if you are mapping a source to a different target, this needs to be added to the data load mapping.

Help using MaxL to automate Essbase Data Load

Hi,
I am trying to automate loading data into an Essbase database (for a Planning application). My current script using the Maxl Shell looks like this:

Bold text in the script indicates specific names or files for my instance.
Using this script works succesfully to load data into my Planning application as long as the data file data.csv is located in the database directory for the Planning applicaiton. What I want to be able to do is load the data file data.csv from a directory that I specify, as the data file cannot be placed in the database directory and instead must have it's own directory.
Does anyone know what syntax I need to use in a MaxL script in order to load a data file that is not located in the database directory? I can provide more information if need. Thank you.

Clarifications required on Data load update types...

I have seen many previus threads in the forum regarding Init, delta Full update and Full Update with Repair.
Can some one expain me clearly the following?
1: What is Repair with Full update. When do we use this ?Give me some example.
2: If a delta failed to ODS, what should I do?
3: If delta fails from ODS to Cube ?
4: When we use Full update ? Every time when we Full update wether the records get duplicated or not?

You can go in for a repair full request when you have missed any delta loads or there are data corruption issues. By doing a full repair load, you can ensure that your data is correct and has good integrity.
With this option you can continue to use your existing delta and not worry about resetting the delta.

Chk whether the data has come to PSA for all the package then u can update the data from PSA. else if extraction part is not over then u need to find out what is the error. force the request to red in ODS and delete it from target. rectify teh error and reload it
3: If delta fails from ODS to Cube ?
Need to force the request to red in Cube. reset the datamart(tick in ODS) then identify what is the error rectify it then load it(In this case too if data is there in PSA tehn no need to rest the data mart u can pull it from intermediate PSA itself)
4: When we use Full update ? Every time when we Full update wether the records get duplicated or not?
Full will pull records from setup dates. It depends on ur datatarget settings(Duplication will occur). In many cases the previous full request will be deleted and a new full will be loaded.

It is possible to automate the data loads into SPM.
A number of customers have customized this into their solution as part of the implementation.
We are planning to deliver OOTB functionality that allows for data load automation. It is currently being validated.

BPC NW 10.0 - Master data load

Hey guys have you tried the automatic master data load in BPC 10.0?
Would it be possible to perform a delta load for master data?
When you do a delata load whether the exisiting dimensions and properties will be overwritten or just add another column/row with new members and properties?
Please provide your thoughts.

By automatic do you mean scheduled? If yes, you can schedule the 'Import Master Data Attrib and Text InfoObj' data manager package. The second prompt will ask if the process should 'Overwrite' or 'Update' (you can also modify the advanced script if you want to always update) Depending on what properties are you populating with your transformation file, those will be updated with what's in the source InfoObject. Assume for example the transformation file in the Mapping section is blank, you have ID '123' with description 'Test' in your dimension and ID '123' and description 'Test - changed' in BW, when the update runs the description will be changed from Test to Test - changed. All other IDs will be added to the dimension. Hope this makes sense.

Automate the Cube loading process using script

I have created the Essbase cube using Hyperion Essbase Studio 11.1.1 and my data source is Oracle.
How can I automate the data loading process into the Essbase cubes using .bat scripts?
I am very new to Essbase. Can anyone help me on this in detail?

You could automate the dimension building and dataloading using Esscmd/ Maxl scripts and then call them via .bat scripts.
Various threads available related to this post. Anyways, you could follow the following steps.
For any script provide the login credentials and select the database.
LOGIN server username password ;
SELECT Applic_name DB_name;
To build dimension:
BUILDDIM location rulobjName dataLoc sourceName fileType errorLog
Eg: BUILDDIM 2 rulfile 4 username password 4 err_file;
For Dataload
IMPORT numeric dataFile fileType y/n ruleLoc rulobjName y/n [ErrorFile]
Eg: IMPORT 4 username password 2 "rulfile_name" "Y";

Error Message after data load (error is "1130610")

We load data using a data load rule. The data seems to load fine except we get the error message "ERROR - 1241101 - Unexpected Essbase error 1130610" on last line below? Any thoughts? Is there a guide somewhere that explains in details all the various error codes and what they refer to? We're using Essbase 6.5.1. The explanation of error 1130610 is the following:Possible Problems - Essbase cannot open a file. Possible Solutions - If you are using an error file, make sure that the error file is being created in a directory that already exists. Make sure you are using the ESSCMD IMPORT command correctly. Put all files the ESSCMD script needs in the $ARBORPATH\APP\applicationName\databaseName directory. Run the ESSCMD script from the $ARBORPATH\APP\applicationName\databaseName directory. Check the ESSCMD script for invalid paths. Make sure every folder that the script is pointing to exists. If you are using an error file, make sure that the error file is being created in a directory that already exists.

Data load from variable file names

I have multiple files that I want to load into a cube, each starting with the same 5 characters but ending differently. EG GM1010104 GM1010204 What's the best option for MAXL script to automate this data load ? Can you use a wildcard name in the script to pick up anything starting with GM101**** ?

No - you need to specify the file name as it appears properly (I've never tried it but I am pretty sure it wouldn't work). One solution to this problem though is to have a shell script (or DOS commands) auto-generate an ESSCMD/MaxL script based on the files that exist in a directory.Most scripting environments should allow you to loop through a list of files that match some pattern - you can then create a script with the results and execute it.Another option is to build a MaxL script that accepts a parameter (file name) and have a shell script call it as it loops through the file list.Hope that helps.Regards,Jade----------------------------------Jade ColeSenior BI ConsultantClarity [email protected]
