Automated Solution for Exporting SQL used in Crystal Reports

My company has created over 400 reports that are running on Crystal Reports XI. Due to proposed changes in our database, we occasionally need to review the SQL statements of all 400+ reports to determine if any of them would be impacted by the proposed changes. In order to review the SQL used in these 400+ reports, we have had to open each report manually. We would like to know how we can review the SQL used in the reports without having to manually look at each report. I suspect there is a way to either write a program or use a tool that will export the SQL that is used in all reports. In a similar vain, we would be interested in knowing if there is an automated way to identify table names and fields that are used in each SQL statement.

I see two directions to go:
1. Review functionalities of .rpt Inspector
[http://www.softwareforces.com/Product/ri/pro/3/rptInspector.htm]
- it allows rpt mass analyses
2. Post your question to ".Net Development - Crystal Reports" forum to see if it is possible to access required information through custom application

  • Need solution for dynamic pick lists in Crystal Reports

Does anyone have a good solution for creating a dynamic pick list for a Crystal Report that is based off of a BW Query without having to use a BW user input variable? In many cases it is not practical to use a BW variable to generate a dynamic pick list due to the high number of possible member values and the highly dynamic nature of the particular characteristic (customers, materials, etc.).  In my understanding the LOV Server is not an option when dealing with SAP BW.  Anyone else running into this issue with Crystal and SAP BW?

    Hi Mike,
we once solved this by creating LOVs in BusinessView Manager. I am not sure if you can use the BW Publisher in this scenario as we did not use it. We published the reports directly to the BOE server for some reasons.
Creating a LOV in BusinessView manager is really easy. You can create cascading prompts, shedule refreshing of the lists, ...
By using the cascading prompt feature you can make prompts like this:
First enter the customer number (or pick it from a list) and then the second list, which holds the materials only has shows the ones which had been purchased by that customer. I think this is what you are looking for.
You should give it a try!

  • Using Sql Functions in Crystal Reports

Can SQL table-valued functions be used in Crystal Reports?  The only options I see in the Database Expert are Tables, Views, and Stored Procedures.

    Hi Dan,
Are you referring to user-defined SQL functions? If yes, then these are not accessible in Crystal Reports.
You would need to create a stored procedure which calls the function and does the processing and use this procedure in CR.

  • How to change default Export Format Type in Crystal Report Viewer

We are coding in VB.NET 2005 using the CR2008 SP1 .NET objects.
The Crystal Report Viewer, when displayed, defaults the export type as .rpt (Crystal Reports).
We distribute our .NET application to our customers.  99% of the time, this .rpt format is useless to our customers as they do not have crystal reports developer.  They usually export to a .pdf or .xls format.  Is there a way to default this export option to something other than .rpt?
    Thank you.

Yes, that's as much as I figured.
With the Crystal for .NET methods, the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine's reportdocument object has an ExportToDisk method.  We wanted to use this (as we used something similar with the RDC) to prompt the user to export.  However, the reportdocument's exporttodisk method does not have an argument that allows for Prompting the user (true/false) like the RDC's export did.  You have to actually know ahead of time the type of export the user wants as well as the filename.  Well, we do not, and therefore, want the user to be able to select the type of export they want as well as enter their own filename.  We want the Crystal methods to prompt for this.  Since we are unable to, we've had to resort to declaring a reportviewer object and setting the viewer's reportsource = to the reportdocument.  We then use the ExportReport() method which defaults to .rpt (which none of our end users have Crystal Developer).  This is why we want to know if there is a way to reset the default export method to something more common (such as .pdf or .xls).  Is there a way to change the reportdocument's file type in order to default the export type?  Just trying to come up with some sort of workaround...
    Thanks

  • How to use a Crystal Reports Query as datasourc in an other Cristal Report

    Hi
I would like to read a File in a CR Report, change some data and use the output as datasource  in an other Criystal Reports Report.
Is ist possible to use a Crystal Reports Report as datasource for an other Crystal Reports Report?

    Hi Thomas,
Are you having Xcelsius also in your kitty??(for dynamically doing this activity)
Xcelsius has very good writing & reading functionality and you can incorporate your crystal report data into it using live office.
Let say you have a report in crystal , you connect that repot to live office .Let say this is REPORT named as SOURCE CR  REPORT.
IN Xcelsius import the this SOURCE CR REPORT  report using live office connection and using GRID selector there to show tabular data.
Xcelsius has buttons & controls  for updating and exporting the data inform of XML SOURCE FILE.
Now you can either make xcelsius Dashboard for TARGET CR REPORT or you can make crystal Report on ADO.NET(XML) for second crystal Report.
Search on SDN for cross usage of Crystal & Xcelsius

  • Modify SQL query in Crystal Reports 2013

    Bonjour,
Je voulais savoir s'il était possible de modifier la requête SQL dans Crystal Reports 2013, car les bases de données de notre application pour bibliothèque utilise un format de date particulier qu'il nous faut corriger directement dans la requête SQL.
    Merci pour vos informations.
    Cordialement
    Claude Marcilly

    Hello,
I wanted to know if it was possible to modify the SQL query in Crystal Reports 2013. Databases of our application library indeed use a particular date format that we need to fix directly into the SQL query.
    Thank you for your information.
    Best regards
    Claude Marcilly

    Hi Claude,
If you are creating reports using tables then go in Database menu and click on show SQL query, this will show the SQL generated by crystal reports.  Now go in database expert and expend your connection and double click on Add Command and past the query which was generated by Crystal and try to modify the date format and click OK.
Now you need to redesign your reports based on Add command.
    or
If your reports datasource is Add command you can directly go in add command and change it.

  • EDITING SQL SCRIPT IN CRYSTAL REPORTS

I just installed Version 12 and am trying to edit SQL scripts in Crystal Reports that were created in Version 8.  When opening the Database tab on the Main Menu, the Query Panel is greyed out and not accessible.  I can view the SQL Query but cannot edit it.  If someone can advise me what to do I would be very appreciative.
Edited by: Frank Romano on Mar 18, 2009 4:17 PM

    Hi Frank,
Here is the SAP Note that says that you cannot edit SQL from Crystal 9 and later
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports (CR) 8.5 and earlier, it is possible to edit the SQL statement in the 'Show SQL Query' dialog box. Doing so allows the report designer to modify the SQL statement that CR generates. Starting with Crystal Reports version 9, users are no longer able to modify the SQL in the 'Show SQL Query' window.
How can you control the SQL statement that Crystal Reports sends to the database?
    Resolution
To control the SQL statement that Crystal Reports 9 and later uses, use the 'Add Command' feature to create a Command Object. The 'Add Command' feature replaces the ability to edit SQL statements in the 'Show SQL Query' dialog box. Use this dialog box to write your own SQL command (query) which will be represented in Crystal Reports as a Table object.
    More Information
Additional information about creating and using Command Objects ('Add Command') can be found on our support site and within the Online Help file contained in Crystal Reports.

  • Report To Show SQL Used In A Report

I am creating a set of quality reports using the apex views.
I would like to create a report to check the sql used in classic reports, but can't seem to find the right view to use.
If it was a interactive report I would use the SQL_QUERY column in the APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_IR view, but this does not seem to exist for classic reports
    Help appreciated.

You can use the Data dictionary view APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_REGIONS. There's a field called "REGION_SOURCE" - just filter for the appropriate region type.
Help appreciated.Really? What about Re: Validate Date and Time? If you want to show genuine appreciation for help given, why not award "correct/helpful" points to posts which helped you solve your problem, as per the forum introduction post:

    * It is considered good etiquette to reward answers with points (as "helpful" - 5 pts - or "correct" - 10pts).

Having a brief look through your list of recently answered questions, you don't seem to award helpful points, even when you've explicitly saying (paraphrasing) "Thanks for your help". Maybe it's a tipping thing - perhaps you subscribe to the doctrine of Mr. Pink but, hey if it helps you get your question answered and it literally costs you nothing but a few seconds of effort, why not throw us a bone by awarding a point now and then?

  • Passing parameter into SQL statement in Crystal Reports

    Hi all,
I would like to call Crystal Reports in JSP. I can handle it well now. But I hope to let user input their selection criteria before printing out the report. I know how to get the parameter value in JSP, but I really dunno how to pass these parameter values into the SQL statement in Crystal Report. Actually, is it possible to do so?
If anyone has idea, please tell me. Thx Thx!

  • How to enable show SQL Query in Crystal report tool

    Hi,
How can we enable the show SQL Query under Database tab in crystal report...
We have a requirement to modify the SQL query in Crystal reports.
    Thanks,
    Gana

    Gana,
CR has an "Add Command" feature that will allow you to use hand-coded SQL as your data source.
Look at Defining an SQL Command in CR's online help (F1).
If a command was used in the original report creation, it's a simple matter to go in and edit that SQL.
If the report was not originally built w/ a Command you may find it difficult to switch over. In most cases it easier to start over from scratch, creating a new, blank report, that uses the command.

  • Code changes for BOE XI R2 from Crystal Reports XI Server R2

I'm using a Crystal Reports Server XI R2 server currently for hosting my development reports. But my production server is going to be Business Objects Enterprise Professional XI R2.
What will be changes that I need to ponder?

You will need to upgrade XIR2 to XI 3.1 if you intend to import reports from CRS 2008. As the message states reports cannot be imported from new to older versions only the other way is supported from older to new, or from the same version to the same version.

  • Extracting SQL Queries from Crystal Reports

I am trying to find a way or a utility to be able extract SQL queries from Crystal reports into a text file for documentation purposes.  These queries are not in the repository, they were entered into each of the reports when the reports were being built and I can't find a way to extract them.  Any ideas/suggestions?

    Hello,
CR doesn't have the ability, and I don't recall if this has ever been asked previously. Great suggestion for the Idea Place tab in the up right corner of this page.
If you find a developer it's quite simple to get:
// log onto the server and then get the SQL.
                rptClientDoc.DatabaseController.LogonEx("van-w-13-dwilli", "xtreme", "sa", "pw");
                GroupPath gp = new GroupPath();
                string tmp = String.Empty;
                rptClientDoc.RowsetController.GetSQLStatement(gp, out tmp);
// show the SQL but easy enough to save the SQL text to a file.
                MessageBox.Show(tmp, "Data Source Set and SQL Statement", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);
Of course you need to open the report first, lots of samples on how to...
    Thank you
