Automatic creation of desktop icon using application builder installer

Can app builder create and installer where a desktop icon is automatically placed on the desktop?

Hi ATS-MN
With LabVIEW 8 you can create a shortcut on the desktop.  In the new Installer Builder, there is a category for shortcuts and you can specify the executable and the desktop folder here.  In previous version of LabVIEW, you were not able to have an installer create desktop shortcuts.
Hope this helps!

  • Custom icon in application builder

I am trying to create an executable with custom icon using Application Builder in LabVIEW.
I converted a .png image to .ico for the icon, but when I select that .ico file as a custom icon, I get the following message:
"The selected file doesn't contain all of the needed icons. Without them, your application will show an incorrect icon in some views.
    Missing icons:
    32X32, 16 color
    16X16, 16 color."
Any comments\suggestions on how to get custom icon would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

It's possible that you don't have both 16x16 and 32x32 icons in 16 bit color. When you convert the .png to an .ico, see if there is an option to convert into necessary ico images that you need.
As a way to double check this without using application builder, load the VI : <vi.lib>\Platform\icon.llb\Read Icons for Application.vi
It will show you the different icons that are read from the .ico file.

  • How to use application builder to generate installation disk without compiling the the support files?

    Hello,
What I am trying to do is to use LV application builder generating an installation disk without compiling the support files. I mean:
the support fils like the help files are located on a different directory , for example, installation disk is D drive, help file directory is: D:\Help\...,  not compiled in the installation Data set.
So,  when the installation disk is running, it only copy this directory file into the destiny directory. Of course, we can write a different bat file to do this. However, beside this method, is there any way, like using LV application builder to do this without writing a batch file.  Any suggestion will be appreciated.

For LabVIEW 7.1, this can be done in a few short steps. First, add your help file as a support file in the Application Builder. Then go to the Installer tab, choose to create an installer and click on the Files button at the bottom. From this dialog (shown below), you can specify the destination for each component in your install package. If you have added your help file as a support file, it will show up in the Files in Installation list. Click on your help file to highlight it. You can now choose where to install the file to by specifying an installation destination and a subdirectory. The default subdirectory is called data, but if you want to change that, just type in a new subdirectory name as I have done below:
    Hope this helps!

    Dear All,
I know that we can configure the automatic creation of an equipment while creating a serial number. I would like to know if some of you have details on how the creation is performed. In particular:

  • How to create custom panel icon using Extension Builder 3?

How does one go about adding a custom icon for extension panels created with Extension Builder 3?
The default icon looks Lego-like (see below)
I'd like to replace the generic icon with an image that can visually identifies the panel even when it's collapsed.

    Found it.
In Eclipse, choose Window > Open Perspective > Other > Adobe Extension Builder 3.
Right-click your project and select Adobe Extension Builder 3 -> Bundle Manifest Editor.
This editor allows you to change the properties of your extension
Bundle Manfest Editor > Extension tab (at the bottom) > User Interface tab (back at the top).  Used .png images and it worked.

  • Problems in using Application Builder to Build a exe file with Report generation Toolkit

    Hello,
It's my first time to build exe. But I have Problem  when the VI have Report Generation toolkit VI.
It's no problem in VI Format , But It can't work when I build as EXE format
Can Anyone help me, and state step clearly in how to  solve the problems?
    Thank you!!

If the code works OK in the development system but not in an executable there are a few things you can check. The two most likely causes are:
There is an error occuring that your code isn't reporting.
There is a file path that under the executable isn't valid.
First make sure that all the error clusters are daisy-chained together in the subVI that you wrote to create and populate the excel file. Next make sure that the end of that chain goes to an indicator on the VI's front panel.
Second, make sure there are indicators on other key parameters like the path the file is trying to write to.
Third, temporarily modify the VI properties of that excel IO VI to open it's front panel when called, and rebuild your application. The next time you run the application the front panel will open when you try to write to the excel file and you should be able to see what is happening.

  • "Find Resources" does not work after Application Builder Installer

    I use Lv Full 6.1 / Appl.Builder 6.1
VISA:"Find Resources" acts properly as long as a built application is installed on a PC that has LV installed.
as soon as only the runtime eng. is installed no resources are found.
    Who helps?

Thank you Dennis for your reply. I tried to install the VISA runtime engine via the "Run executable after installation" but it appears to run the Visa-runtime-engine-installer before ending the application installation. So I had to run that installer manually. Nevertheless you pushed me in the right direction.

  • LV8 Application builder/ installer questions

I am having trouble in building my installers within LV8. Everything is in the Project Manager and I am able to build an Executable that works. but when I build an installer and try to run the installer on a 2000 or XP machine I get the attached error. I found if I continue on the error everything gets installed ecept my application. If I manually install my application everything works. so with the RTE on a system without LV8 installed my EXE works.
I cannot figure out exactly what I am doing wrong. I am thinking it could be on the  Registry tab of the installer as I did not adde or change anything. the PDF CD I received with LV8 talks about the App Builder from 7.1 which does not help. The program I am working on building worked fine in 7.1.1. Source files look to be done correctly and I check marked the Register COM ont he source files settings page as I am using ActiveX to access Excel.  It is configured to install RTE 8.0, I have the Shortcuts set as well, but on a NON Dev machine (no LV8) the installer does not work. but on my Dev machine it seems to work fine.
    Any ideas?

I think I got it working.. I deleted the old files int he destination for the build and tried again. I left the ActiveX Server unchecked and verified the Register COM was checked. created a new installer and built it and is seems to work.

  • Application Builder - Installer - Missing Files

    Hello,
I have a very large project and I want to create an installer. I have prebuilded the exe and all the necessary files and added them to the new project as files.
Somehow, when I want to create a new installer, I can not see my exe files (added to LVProject as files) in the Source Files Tab.
I have tried to remove and add these file again to the project, but nothing happened.
I have a feeling about that when I double click on the Installer icon in the LVProject - Build Specification to open Installer settings the filelist do not refresh. Is it possible to fore refresh that files?
    This issue is very annoying...
    Please give some help, thanks.

To build an installer from with a project you must add the Build Specification, not the executable itself. Therefore you need to create the Installer in the same Project as the Build Specification. You cannot manually add executable files to the Installer, just Build Specifications that define your built executable.
    See the Installer help: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361J-01/lvdialog/files_install_page/

  • Application Builder - Use of Global Variables

    Hello,
I have an application which consists one one main VI running for the user interface, and one VI running in the background dealing with CAN communications.  These two VIs must communicate using global variables.  In the main VI, I have to open a reference to the global variable VI in order to write data to it.  The application works correctly in LabVIEW environment.  However when I build the application using application builder, I receive an error with the open reference VI in opening the global variable VI.  The error given is Error Code 7: File not found.  The path to the Global variable VI is correct however.  I am pretty sure of this because in my main VI, I open up other VIs based on the open reference function and a path.
    Therefore:
    1) I can open references to normal VIs and use properties such as run VI without a problem.
    2) This does not work for my global variable vi.
    Build settings:
Im dont understand all the build options completely but the settings I use are:
    1) Single target file contening all the VIs
    2) All the VIs I use are located in the same folder
I hope the explaination is clear enough.
Do you have any suggestion to explain what happens and how can I make it work correctly?
    Thanks

  • Application Builder: What is the significance/function of "page sequence"?

Because we are always pressed for time, I have developed the nasty habit of glossing over things that may be opaque to me, with the mental reservation that I will re-visit the issue "when things calm down".
One of those opaque things is the function, significance, or use of "sequence" in the context of APEX Application Builder and application pages.
I am working through the Oracle-By-Example application labeled OBE_PROJECTS. I have created the Master-Detail form, but it has not come out as expected. According to the instructions, when I created the page, I designated the home page as its parent. Yet, when I run the application, the icon for the master-detail form does not appear.
I assume that I've fat fingered something when I built the page and attempt to correct it. I think that the answer will lie in the task "Reparenting page hierarchy". When I look at the "Create/Edit Breadcrumb Entry page", I see in the "Entry" region, that the Parent Entry is, indeed, correct ... that is "Home (Page 1)". On the other hand, the text box labeled "Sequence" is set to "10". And this is the same value as the Home Page itself. Can that be correct? Shouldn't my Master-Detail page have a sequence number subordinate to the Home Page?
    Any help/elucidation will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Gus

    Varad,
I hadn't gotten that far yet. I'm still following OBE script and accessing the page from the "Run Page" icon in application builder.
The issue itself, pages not showing up, is solved for me. I had anticipated that simply declaring the parent of Master-Detail page to be home page would automagically make those objects appear on the home page.
Slogging through the Oracle By Example, I learn that one must actually edit the home page to have them appear (how barbaric!)
But, the question of exactly what "page sequence" means and how it's supposed to be used is still there.
    Thanks for the Response,
    Gus

  • Application builder exe does not load excel

I have used application property node and invoke node to cerate a set of VIs that read and write data to an Excel sperad sheet.  This works fine in when running in LabVIEW, however when I run myApp.exe as build from application builder, the data does not get logged to Excel.  The file dialog appears to  open the XL Spreadsheet but not data gets logged nor is any error reported?
What is going on?   All the VI are in the same project folder?  Is there some additional addon run-time the must be installed on the target machine?  I am uisng LabVIEW 2012 on the development station with Win7 Pro and Office 2010 on both the devleopment station and the target system.  Is there one document that describes using Application Builder?   It was not clear that I needed both LabVIEW and VISA run-time engines to get my application.exe to run on the target.  Is there something simialr I must do to get Office to work as well?

I was finally able to track this back through by starting from scratch and received an error code, which led me to this post:
    https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Error-2147319779-Excel-ActiveX-and-Broken-LabVIEW-Icon/td-p/2354776
Deleting the "1.7" items solved the problem.
