Automatic data acquisition roi and integration

HI, ,
we are running a study into the ROI, , benefits and
costs of investing into an automatic data acquisition system.
found this resource
http://www.highjumpsoftware.com/adc/VertexeraORCL022504
that helps with the process -- it does not though
cover best practices for how to integrate this
system(s) with the underlying Oracle Apps 11 platform.
any info on that will be appreciated.
Thanks
joe

One period two spaces.  Not multiple periods.
You have an inner while loop around your Write function with a True wired to the Continue terminal.  That loop will run forever and the outer loop will only run the first time.  You are forced to abort your VI to get it to stop.
Get rid of the inner while loop.

  • Data acquisition & state machine

    Hi all,
I am working on a project that is capable of data acquisition, analyse, and record processes. I have to acquire data of temperature from 8-32 channels and that of pressure from 7 channels. After analysis, I have 48 outputs. I want to record raw data (acquired) and analysis data at the same time.
    1) Is it possible to record two text files (raw data and analysis data records) at the same time?
I also want to adjust acquired sample rate but I have doubts about utilizing it in a state machine. For now, I have just used time elapsed function to acquire data once in 60 seconds.
    2) How could I set sample rate of acquisition except using time elapsed function?
I also have one more doubt about timing. If I needed to acquire sample once in 60 seconds, but the analysis took more than 60 secs, what would happen?
    3) How can I prevent data loss in this case?
I have not prepared a user interface yet.
    4) How can I utilize it? Do I put graphs and indicaters in the same VI or is it better to prepare another vi just for user interface?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Egemen
    -          If we need to acquire data and analyze it at the same time we recommend the architecture producer-consumer to prevent data loss, and yes you can record two text files at the same time. Please take a look to this architecture.
    -          http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3023/en
    -          Basically you use the first loop to acquire data and the second one to analyze and record data (using queues).
    -          https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-2431
    -          You can also find examples about this architecture at the developer zone.

  • How to writing the data into the file at the same frequency of data acquisition using myRIO

    Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding data acquisition fequency and data recording frequency of myRIO. Hope you guys can help me out.
Basically, I want to acquire voltage input at analog input 0 at the frequency of 1kHz and then write the data into a file (tdms format).
However, I always found there were only 55 or 56 data points recorded every second in the data file (see the excel sheet).
To confirm my data acquisition was performed at the correct frequency, I added a small function in the main loop to indicate the time spent between two acquisition events.
To my surprise, the period of data acquistion is correct (1ms or 1kHz) but there are only 55 or 56 data point per second recorded in the data file.
How can I record every data point acquired by the analog input?
    Thank you!
P.S. I am very new to myRIO. How can I manually set the system time for myRIO? The default time of my myRIO is wrong.
    Best,
    Tengyang

  • Choice of design pattern for data acquisition system

    Hello all
I have a trouble about selecting the suitable design pattern / architecture for a data acquisition system.
Here is the details of the desired system:
There is data acquisition hardware and I need to use it by observing parameters on User interface.
the data acquisiton period, channel list to scan should be chosen on User interface. Besides, there are many user interface interactions. e.g. if user selects a channel to add scanlist, then I need to enable and make visible some other parts on user interface.
When user completes the channel selection, then he will press the button to start data acquisition. Then I also need to show the scanned values on a graph in real time and log them in txt file.
I know that I cannot use producer consumer pattern here. because the data acquisition loop should wait for parameters to scan channels. and it works in a given period by user. so the user interface loop performs higher rate then consumer loop (data acquisition loop). it means queue will be bigger bigger. if I use notifier it will loss some data come from user interface.
is there any idea about that ? is there any suitable design pattern for this case ?
    Thanks in advance

I recommend the Producer/Consumer model with some modifications.
You might need three loops.  I cannot tell for sure from your brief description.
The User Interface loop responds to the user inputs for configuration and start/stop of acquisition.  The parameters and commands are passed to the Data Acquisition loop via a queue. In this loop is a state machine which has Idle, Configuration, Acquisition, and Shutdown states (and perhaps others). The data is sent to the Processing loop via a different queue. The Processing loop performs any data processing, displays the data to the user, and saves it to file. A notifier can be used to send the Stop or shutdown command from the User Interface loop to the other loops.  If the amount of processing is minimal and the file write times are not too long, the Processing loop functions might be able to occur in the Timeout case of the UI loop Event structure.  This simplifies things somewhat but is not as flexible when changes need to be made.
I am not sure that a Design Pattern for this exact setup exists but it is basically a combination of the Producer/Consumer (Events) and Producer/Consumer (Data) Design Patterns.

  • How to use peak detection in labview to detect peaks from data acquisition information

    Hi
I am a university engineering student who is working in a team to develop a coin detector, its purpose is to recognize different coinage and detect fakes.
For this we are using LabVIEW 8.5.1. I am relatively new to labview and have had no experience of using to before. We are trying to integrate four voltage signals produced by an electromagnet, straingauge, optical sensor and a proximity sensor. We have already developed signal conditioning for these tests and now wish to put them into labview.
Our plan is to use peak detection on each of the tests so that labview can detect peaks which correspond to different coin types, provided they meet set criteria for each coin. Then to combine these either using logic or mathscript to produce a Boolean output for each coin.
One of our advisors helped us develop a peak detection program for a simple simulated sine wave however we are struggling to adapt this for data acquisition information and itegrate it with mathscript and to be honest it does not make much sense. I have attached the program below. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Chris,
Here are several ways to help  you get started with peak detection:
    1. On your functions palette, you can search for "peak detect" and you'll find several different variations of VIs that will do peak detection.
    2. You may also want to take a look at this tutorial: Peak Detection Using LabVIEW and Measurement Studio
    3. There's an example in the example finder called "Peak detection and display" that will probably be useful.
    Hope this helps,

  • Data acquisition from SPCM-AQRH-15 and Nano-ViewTM 200-2/M

I am trying to acquire data from APDs (PerkinElmer, SPCM-AQRH-15) and Nanopositioner (Mad City, Nano-ViewTM 200-2/M). The second equipment has USB 162 or 202 digital interface integrated but I am not sure abut the first one since I am still waiting my order. anyway, I want to control/communicate with both of them using your product, does anyone know what software and hardware I need? thanks.

    Hello Confuciusl,
I have been looking into the problem
statement that you gave us above and have some questions for you as well as
some answers. I am going to go with the basic understanding that we will be
using LabVIEW to not only communicate with your devices, but also for data
    acquisition and analysis.
In reference to your APDs (PerkinElmer,
SPCM-AQRH-15), I have looked at the data sheet for the product located here,
and have determined that the best method of communication with your device
would be to use some type of Counter/Oscilloscope card in a PCI/PXI standard.
This will allow for proper recording of your signal from your Output Terminal.
For more information on cards please refer to this link.
As for the second instrument listed, the
Nano-ViewTM 200 from MadCity, it mentions here that The Nano- View/M™
system includes the Nano-Drive™ controller and is compatible with user written
LabVIEW software. Since we do not have the capability to obtain the product you
are specifically trying to communicate, the best option at the moment would be
to try and contact MadCity and see if they have any specific Instrument Drivers
pre-built for LabVIEW that will allow you to communicate with your device. If
they do not, the next option would be to develop your own by following the
    guidelines at the following link.
Thanks again and have a great day!

  • Triggering a 6024E into data acquisition from start and end number of finite pulse generator from a 6602

My motion control system is driven by a 6602 I wanted to acquire analog current (to a voltage via I/V converter) from a 6024 AI when:

    (2) How do you do AI from a "start" pulse train to "end" pulse train?
    (3) How do you manage time for File I/O meanwhile doing (1) and (2) above?"
    Answer 1 and 2)
Yes you can, This VI is part of the search examples that ships with LV:
"Continuous Acquisition & Graph Using Digital Triggering and External Scan Clock
Demonstrates how to continuously retrieve data from one or more analog input channels using an external scan clock when a digital start trigger occurs."
Go to Search Examples in the Help/Contents of LV. Then pick I/O Interfaces/Data Acquisition (DAQ)/Analog Input/Triggering an Acquisition/Triggering a Continuous Acquistion.
This VI is appropriate ifs you want to clock the DAQ with some clock (external scan clock) other than the on board clock.
The start trigger required by the DAQ card will be a TTL signal attached to the PFI0/TRIG1 pin of you DAQ card (via whatever signal conditioning you have).
The external clock also needs to be TTL and is attached to the PFI7/STARTSCAN pin.
You tell it which AI channel to use and wire that up appropriately.
All of this stuff is in the context help for the VI.
    Answer 3)
You have a misconception of how the acquisition makes its way into a file on the hard disk. You don't really "stream to disk." The VI above will run a buffered acquisition. The DAQ card sets up a buffer that fills with the data continously. When you use the VI you set up how the buffer is configured, you will see controls for buffer size, number of scans to read at a time, etc. The acquisition runs data into the buffer continously and reads from the buffer are a parallel process where chuncks of the buffer are extracted serially. You can end up with a scan backlog where the reads are falling behind the data. Making the buffer bigger helps. All of this is limited by the sampling capability of the DAQ card. 200kSamples/second is for one channel of AI. Divide by 2 for 2 channels. etc.
The short answer is that the VI and DAQ card manage the file I/O for you.
The VI above writes the scan out to the waveform chart on the front panel. You will want to wire that data out from the AI Read Sub VI to a spreadsheet file in tab delimited form or similar.
Look inside the VI block diagram. There is a While loop containing the AI Read. Every time the loop runs (unless you hit STOP), the AI Read plucks the specified # of scans from the buffer (starting from the last unread datum). If you wire the double orange wire from AI Read out of the loop (and set the tunnel for Auto Indexing) the Vi will build another buffer in memory that is a series of AI Reads appended to each other, a sequencial record of the acquisition. Here you put in a Write to Spreadsheet VI. This is in the Functions Pallete, it is the first VI in the File I/O Pallette (icon looks like a 3 1/2 disckette).
There is more to it than this. The spreadsheet Write is 1D or 2D only. By running the array out of the while loop with auto indexing enabled, you create a 3D array. (If you turn off auto indexing you will only get the last array performed by the AI Read.) You will need to create a new array withe the pages of the array placed serially into a 2d array. I don't think I want to get into that. It isn't that bad to do, but you should get some time messing with arrays on your own, then you will see how to do it yourself. One solution is to only run the While loop once with a buffer big enough to hold the whole acquisition, or in other words no loop at all. I don't know how many scans you want. The other thing is by wiring that AI Read out of the loop you are creating an array that must be dynamically resized as the loop runs. Kind of a no no. Better to know what you are acquiring size wise and letting the VI set up buffers and array space that does not need to be changed as the program runs.
Caveat: I am fairly new to this and I could be wrong about the arrays and buffers and system resources stuff. However, I have done essentially what you are trying to do succesfully, but not "continuously." I limited the AI Read to one large read that gets what I need.
"Continously" is usually reserved for screen writes as in the VI above. The computer is not required to continually allocate space for an ever expanding array to be written as a file later. Each time this VI runs the While Loop the data goes to the waveforn chart. Each new AI read overwrites the previous one. Sort of like if you turn the Auto Indexing off. When the VI stops, the waveform chart on screen would show the same data as was written to the spreadsheet.

  • Lenovo 14 20DM correct driver for 'Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller'

Hi Everyone, I am the happy owner of a new Yoga 14 20DM. A few days ago I made the decision to upgrade to Windows 10. Whilst the upgrade went smoothly I did have to install a number of drivers manually. At the moment I am stuck on trying to install the 'PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller' (as shown below).  I have tried right clicking on the device then selecting Properties > Driver (tab) > Update Driver > Search automatically for updated driver software, however doing so only shows the screen capture below!  Furthermore I have searched the Lenovo support page for a suitable driver however none is available! http://support.lenovo.com/au/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-14/20dm?TabName Finally I have also installed, and run, 'System Update 5' the software program available from Lenovo. However it was not able to install a correct driver for this device. I have done a little searching on this topic, and have read a couple of stories about people installing an incorrect driver for this device, and then experiencing blue screens! Can anybody suggest how I can go about locating and installing the correct driver for this device? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Davo

Hi Ingemann, Ultimately I decided on the newest version of the Intel Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility), which at this time (on the Intel website) is version 10.0.27. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility- Interestingly enough I was presented with the message below when I ran this executable.  I selected Downgrade (with some trepidation), and after rebooting was pleasantly surprised to see that the troubled device was missing from the list. I can only assume that this means the correct drivers were installed. Thanks you very much for your help. Kind Regards, David

  • Driver missing - PCIe Data Acquisition and Signal .....

Hello, i recently used Boot Camp to install Windows XP on my 2010 15" Macbook Pro.
All the drivers are working (so far) and i haven't encountered many problems.
However, there is one thing bugging me:
When i go into Device Manager in Windows, and look down the list of installed/uninstalled devices, there is a device called "PCIe Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller" which has no driver installed.
I'm PC savvy, but i have never seen this before. My guess is that one of the motherboard drivers is missing, and Boot Camp installer doesn't include that driver?
Has anyone seen/resolved this, and if so, how?
    Thanks.

  • Data acquisition problem with NI-DAQmx 9205 and SignalExpress

    Hi everyone,
I am using a NI-DAQmx 9205 connected via ethernet to my computer and Labview SignalExpress running to acquire data. I am working with EMG and I use an amplifier system from GrassTechnologies (http://www.grasstechnologies.com/products/ampsystems/ampsystems.html). The way it works is the electrodes are plugged on the amplifier system and the amplifier is plugged to the NI-DAQmx 9205.
I don't know how to setup the system to be able to read properly the emg signal on SignalExpress.
Does anyone know how to use it?
    Thank you for youe help
    John

    Hi John,
If I were an Applications Engineer I'd probably be able to figure this out on my own but would you mind elaborating on your hardware setup a little? You mention plugging into a "NI-DAQmx 9205", however the NI-DAQmx is the data acquisition 'driver', the [NI]9205 is an Analog Input Voltage module. Do you mean to be plugging into a Compact DAQ or cRIO?
Also, I'm not familiar with EMG readings or the amplifiers/electrodes you're working with.
What is the signal type going into the amplifier from the electrodes, and what is the signal type and range (amplitude) of the signal coming out of the amplifier; AC, DC? I'm assume it's all voltage?
Straight voltages are pretty easy to work with provided you can scale it to usable units.
Lets get your hardware and signal types figured out then we'll be able to tell Signal Express how to handle those signals.

  • Timing of DAQmx Acquisition Vi and data write

I am acquiring data from a DAQ rack, using a 6251 PCI card. after acquiring a data set, i write it to a binary file. afterwards, i do a small calculation on one channel value and apply a condition on this value. the outcome of which is connected to the while loop surrounding the acquisition. So i (1.)grab 100 points, (2.) write, calc. and cond., and (3.) start over again. I stuck millisecond timers in between steps 1, 2, and 3 to determine if i was incurring much delay. So, if i have no delay, and i'm sampling at 100 Hz, the differences between the millisecond timing values (stuck into an array) should be
    1000
    0
    0
    1000
    0
    0
    1000
    0
    0
    etc.
This is usually the case. However, sometimes i get something like this
    900
    100
    0
    900
    100
    0
    or
    980
    20
    0
    980
    20
    0
So if i measure a delay as a result of the writing/calculations/conditing, this time is subtracted from the acquisition time interval. I don't really understand this at all. Why a delay after the acquisition would speed up the acquisition, i have no idea. My only guess is that i start writing/calculating/conditioning before acquision has finished, but why would it do that? I've attached basically the setup. Any help would be great.

    ...what is the "hw?"
That's short for "hardware." Specificially, in a buffered acquisition the data is sent into your memory buffer at regular times regulated by a hardware clock found in your data acq board. Your software interacts with this memory buffer via 'Read' calls.
    ...worry about delay?
That'll depend on your app. As you've described it, you Read 1 second worth of data all at once then do some processing and storage. As long as you can do that processing and get back around the loop in less than one second, then the processing is not a bottleneck. The speed is being regulated by the amount of data you request and the time it takes to acquire it.
If this behavior is sufficient for you, then no, you don't have to worry about the delay.
Other apps may need to read smaller amounts of data and make decisions more quickly than once per second. Or they may need to instantly read the most recent data without waiting for any and then quickly make a decision. These sorts of apps might cause you to worry about the processing time.
