Automatic File Versionining

Does Oracle Files support automatic file versioning. In other words, can I turn on file versioning so that anytime I modify the document it is versioned?

Martin,
Check out my whitepaper on Content Services 10g. In particular look at VersionManager.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/cs/developer/contentservicesdev/pdf/ContentServices-WebServices-TechnicalPaper_Final.pdf
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B15595_01/content.101/b19047/oracle/ifs/fdk/VersionManager.html
Content Services allows you to define versioning policies on a particular folder. The policies include:
Automatic Versioning
Manual Versioning
No Versioning
When setting the versioning configuration on a folder, you can also provide options such as automatic version labelling.
Manual Versioning will require explicit checkout/checkin in order to create a new version. If you attempt to override an existing document without the existing document being checked-out, the operation will fail. Depending on the interface you are using, e.g. Web Services/Web UI, you may be able to utilize conflict resolution functionality to specify that the operation be reattempted using a particular conflict resolution option - for example new version, rename etc.
Automatic Versioning will cause the server to maintain a set of automatic versions for you. Any changes to the document will cause a new automatic version to be added (which may or may not replace an existing automatic version should the max automatic versions limit have been reached or not). At any time, you can specify that an automatic versioning have it's DO NOT PURGE flag set to true, which causes it not be included in the max automatic versions count.
In terms of your question - when a user checks out a document, a working copy of the latest version is created. The user will be able to modify the contents etc of this working copy, and when they are ready, either checkin or cancel the checkout. On checkin, the working copy will become the latest version.
When a document is checked out, only the user whom performed the check out will have access to the working copy. All other users in the system will only see the existing latest version to which the working copy was originally based from.
thanks
Matt.

  • How to remove automatic file associations in Dreamweaver CS5?

When installing Dreamweaver, I chose to associate a broad array of file extensions with the program.  I would like selectively remove some of these automatic file associations (e.g. .php).  I have found this question posted several times, but never answered.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, John.  The link you provided would help to change the automatic file association in Windows 7.  I should have been more specific that my ultimate goal was to have .php files not automatically associated with any program (so that I could modify the file extensions of some .php files).  I don't believe this could be achieved by changing the automatic association via the operating system (because you must select another program to automatically associate with a given file type).  However, my particular problem is resolved because I discovered that I could just deselect "hide extensions for known file types" in the "view" tab of "folder and search options".  This way I could change the .php extensions even though they were still automatically associated with dreamweaver.  Although this may be an obvious solution to many, I thought I would share it here in case anyone else finds themself stuck in the same way.

  • How do i remove those automatic files like "Earlier" or "Today", etc?

usually, in my files, i know exactly what i am looking for.  i dont need those extra, automatic files (i think they are called "smart files") showing up.  files like, "Today", or "Earlier", or "Previous 7 Days".  who decided i wanted to see these? in fact, because of my a.d.d. like scatter-brain, they just add more confusion.  how do i turn these things off?

Ah OK I think you went to set Arrange by to None

  • Automatic file length setting for continuous recording?

In iMovie 6 I was able to do long duration ( all night) recordings with automatic file splits at ten minutes. Hence, I would have 6 manageable files per hour.
I can't find a way to set file lengths in iMovie 9.
Is there some place in the preference files where I can set the length?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Inserting automatic file name, date and time in Illustrator CS3?

    hello all,
is there an option in Illustrator where you could automatically insert inside your file the file name, date and time where it was last created or modified, etc.
I found this option to exist in InDesign, but could not find the same menu in Illustrator. I am using CS3.
    help?
    thanks a bunch.

    Mario,
would you please be so kind to include a reference on your site about the script? As far as I can see, the PutDateandTime.js you are providing here is a copy or a slightly modified copy of the original script that Wolfgang Reszel has provided on our site for about four years.
It is okay that the script is available on your site, but please not without a reference. Thanks.

    Hi guys,
Iam trying to generate a path for file creation automatically using System date and time. I am running into errors with respect to special characters in filename. I am trying to parse the string to get date and time without the '/' and ':' but have not been successful. is there a better way to do it? Please help! • Is there a way to automate file creation based on a template with content in the file being different based on a list?

That was very wordy and I can not at the time make it any better.
I have a template of a decal. I want to make many of these decals but with a different name on each decal. Is there some way I can feed a list to Illustrator and have it automatically generate the decal files, with the text changed in each file to a name on the list? That way I don't have to open up the same template, 30, 40, 50 times and manually change the text content for every name I need.

The Variable Data function should be the direction to take for this type of workflow.

This link will give you a quick overview.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/14.0/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-62a2a.htm l
This is not something I do everyday. Only done this on a couple of jobs which had to have text change in a couple of places with a static background. I don't see a need for this function much with my current workflow, seems like the setup of the template file with variables takes longer than just creating the 12 or 15 files needed. But if you have to create 500 files from one template and can determine what variables need to change then this may be something you want to get good at.

  • Automatic File Sync/Transfer to PC/E-Mail etc.

    Hi,
I have the following request/problem for my nokia 6280.
Some days ago I "discovered" the voice recording feature, which I now using more than 20 times a day. I send them to my secretary and she executes my orders.
Now I want to automize this file transfer. I want every time, that the phone has a bluetooth connection with my pc and the contacts and so on were automaticly synced, that this recording files also synced or better transfered to a windows drive or file directory or send by email or whatever. The main issue is that my secretary gets this files automaticly.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    HoGo

A PC app could be written using the Nokia PC Suite API to detect when a phone is connected, then copy any files (in directories/folders accessible via PC Suite) off the device and do whatever you want with them (such as sending them as email attachments).
The PC Suite API is available from Forum Nokia:

  • Automatic File Sync aka "use it and forget it"

Is it possible to invoke File Sync in a non-interactive way. I want file syncing to be automatic and done "under the covers" for one of our user groups. Failing that, is there any APIs that could be used to build some custom code?

The Auto Tool rocks.  I admit it takes some getting used to.  And I definitely turn off the Auto Tool locking feature in Tools > Options (in case I do need to Tab or Space).  In the rare circumstance where I need some tool behavior that the Auto Tool doesn't readily provide, I just shift-right click to bring up the Tools palettes and just keep going.  Plus, the auto tool seems to get a little smarter with each LabVIEW release.
And just so y'all don't think I'm biased, there are NI people who disagree...one of my teammates, in fact, who is an old-school LabVIEW guy, hates the Auto Tool and has never switched to using it.  But whenever I occasionally need to use an older, pre-autotool version of LabVIEW for whatever reason, I feel totally crippled having to Tab/Space every time I need a new tool.
You should find that after you get used to it, the Auto Tool speeds up your LabVIEW programming tremendously.

  • Automatic file naming and data saving

    Hi,
I am building a program where there will be several I-V scan for each value of temperature. I would like to make the data saving fully automatic.
    To explain in more deatils:
I want the program to generate a new file on its own , give a file name depending on the temperature variable , save the data and again go for the next I-V scan and do the same way.
So, if at a particulat temp say 300K, there are 5 iterations, my program should be such that it generates a new file evrytime say 300K_001(1st iteration), 300K_002,...300K_005(5th iteration) automatically on the hit of "run" button.
Can some one help me on how to implement such a code.
    Thanks!
    Solved!

People do things like that all the time.
Look at the Number to String conversion functions in the String palette and the Build Path function in the File palette.
You should think about error handling. What happens if you try to create the 300K_001 file and a file with that name already exists? Do you want to over-write the file, change the name to 300K_001_a, or ask the operator for input?

  • Photoshop (all versions): Inconsistency/Bug in automatic File Naming algorithm

    Hello,
I discovered this problem in PS CS3 and CS5 (don't have CS4) after a student of mine found it in PS Elements 8. Here's one way to replicate the issue:
    1) Open any image in Camera Raw. Let's call that file FILENAME.dng
    2) Click "Save Image" button on the left
    3) "Save Options" window opens
    4) Under "File Naming" there are several drop-down boxes. The first box is filled in with "Document Name" as the variable. Leave that alone and move to next box to the right.
    5) In this box, select the variable named "2 Digit Serial Number."
    6) Now, in that SAME box right after the word "Number," click after the "r" (at the end) and enter a hyphen "-"
    7) Look above the boxes and it shows you are about to rename the file "FILENAME2 Digit Serial Number-.dng"
    8) The term "2 Digit Serial Number" is now part of the file name (with a hypen at the end).
This should never happen because it's mixing variables and constants. Plus, most importantly, nobody would EVER type ANY of the drop-down values as a file name. And, if someone did type in the hyphen at the end (like my student did), she obviously intended it to be a 2 digit number followed by a hypen and not the term "2 Digital Serial Number-."
There may be other places in the software that use this file naming algorithm, too. For instance, in PS Elements 8, it cn be found also found under File>Process Multiple Files.
This isn't a big issue, I know, but it should be fixed.
I am primarily looking for a response from Adobe personnel.
    Thanks,
        Mike

I did some tests and was unable to get it to work even with RAW. (perhaps it was just me) I did get it to work with multiple images being sent to "Merge to Panorama in Photoshop CS4" In all other cases, LR wants to control the naming. You end up with a file sent to PS with a LR controlled name added automatically to the LR catalog. (this is a duplicate of the orig LR file as no edits are made with this name) The file you create with your own name (when you save as from PS) needs to be imported back into the LR catalog manually later.
This is not the kind of integration we need.
We need to be able from LR to have jpg edits done in PS and named according to our needs, and re-added to the LR catalog automatically when we exit PS.
    For example the following scenario:
IMG_1234.jpg is processed, cropped and tweaked in LR, then sent to PS for detailed enhancement.
Coming out of PS might be:
    IMG_1234_Lucis90%
    IMG_1234_Lucis50%
    etc....
We need to make this work somehow....

  • Automatic file generation

What I want to do is write data to a spreadsheet file and have this file named from a user input string earlier in the code ( I am passing all the user inputs through each VI via clusters). For example, one of the user inputs is "Unique Valve ID Number". Therefore when I write my data to a spreadsheet, I automatically want the file name to be the Unique valve ID number without a dialogue box appearing asking me to type this in. I also want the file to be save automatically to a specific location on my network every time.
As a result each time I log a test, the filename will be the unique valve ID number and all the files will be located in the same location.
Can anyone help. (I am using labview 7.1 if anyone is sending in an example good)
    Thank you.
    Jamie

You just need to create your path as a string and then use the String to Path function. As an example:

  • Automatic file synchronization suggestions

    Hello all
I have received the following request from one of our local administrators.
My wish is to do this the most "sophisticated" way possible, but without using any third-party software.
Can I kindly ask you for any suggestions what might be the best approach to implement this, please?
Both servers are on the same domain.
    Here is the request:
We need an automatically copy of data between two servers.
This should be on a daily base at 17.30 local time.
    Source:
    \\%server1%\Shared\folder1\folder2\folder3\
    Destination:
    \\%server2%\Shared\folder1\folder2
Task:                     Copy, changed and new, files and folders, but don’t delete the files/folders in the Destination if they are deleted in the Source.
When:                  Workdays at 17.30 local time (GMT +1)
    EDIT:
Is robocopy an option in this case?
    The IT guys from LukOIL

Yes, robocopy is an option. It's what I use for daily backup scripts of some servers. Never had a problem with it.
I have prepared a command that I think might do for what we need.
    robocopy \\%server1%\Shared\folder1\folder2\folder3 \\%server2%\Shared\folder1\folder2 /E /MAXAGE:14 /MON:15 /XO /XL /XX /IT /L /LOG+:E:\Shared\IM\_robocopy_logs\robocopy_log_file.log
Can you please review it for me?

  • How to Stop automatic file saving on IPAD Adobe Reader 11.2

How can stop my PDF document being saved with the fillable form data when being using Adobe Reader 11.2 on an IPAD - the file is automatically saved when the user returns to the document folder.  The original pdf file was created from a Word document and then text, signature and date fields added using Adobe Acrobat XI and saved using Standard Save function. I am trying to achieve my users completing the template form using the IPAD and then emailing it. However each time the form is filled and emailed (which all works fine) and the user returns to the "documents" folder, Acrobat Reader 11.2 automatically saves the file with the form data

I think the iPad forces a different way of thinking. In general, you don't have to save files on the iPad, and that's important. The iPad has complete liberty to quit an app when you want to run a different app, or just because it feels like it. When you restart a good app, things are as they were when it was quit.
Resetting is a possibility, but remember that because of this automatic quit/automatic restart it might happen when you don't want it. A reset BUTTON seems entirely possible.

  • "Automatic" file uploading

Does anyone know how to do the following:
I know how to do part 1:
    1) A user on a website hears a pre recorded verbal question or statement; the user then immediately records a short verbal response by pressing a button on a simple GUI and speaking into their microphone. The microphone records the sound into a file.
I don't know how to do part 2:
    2) Upon releasing the button, the file is automatically uploaded to the website without the user having to use the usual HTML upload proceedure (typing the filename into a from field, pressing a separate upload button, etc.) or taking any other action.
    The process then repeats.
Just point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

The general URL Networking tutorial should be of use

In the Jakarta Commons there is HTTPClient, which is a programming library for all this kind of thing.

If you can't use it, you can at least dig through the source to see how they did it :-)
