Automatic gpupdate /force on login

I need the group policy to be updated each time the user log in. I tried restarting the machine but didn't work
I even tried to use a bat file as a log on script through gp but also didn't work
the only way to update the policy is using manual gpupdate /force
i need  a way  to automate this please

 Thanks for the answe
Tried it but the same the gp wouldn't update til i manually run gpupdate /force !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Depending upon the particular CSE (Client Side Extension) you are interested in, there are several possible solutions:
The "Process even if the Group Policy objects have not changed" option updates and reapplies the policies even if the policies have not changed. Many policy implementations specify that they are updated only when changed. However you might
want to update unchanged policies such as reapplying a desired policy setting in case a user has changed it.

  • GPUpdate /force - suddenly, the users are being asked to log off to finalize the update

Win7, Server 2008R2, IE9 - Not sure what changed or when, but if I run GPUpdate /force, the users is told to log off before the updates take place. Any ideas as to what causes this? Even if the GPO isn't changed, users are still required to log off.

  • Error when we run gpupdate /force

We have the following GPO setting being applied to our XP workstations.
User Config \ policies \ admin templates \ windows components \ internet explorer \ internet control panel \ security page \
    Site to Zone Assignment List
Then in this list we have many web sites uses can access.   All this works fine.  On an XP machine I can run gpupdate /force and it updates the policies.
but when I apply this same GPO to an OU that has only Windows 7 machines and I run a gpupdate /force on any of them I get this error.
Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings. Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link.
does windows 7 handle this site to zone mappings differently?

    Hi,
Please confirm whether you receive event id 7016 with error code 5 by reproducing this error again. If this is confirmed, then this issue is due to permission problem.

  • GPUpdate /force in Task Sequence as current logged on user

    Hi,
I am currently trying to "upgrade" around 800 installations of Microsoft Office Standard 2010 to Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus. To do this, I'll have to:
    1: Install Office 2010 ProPlus
    2: Uninstall Office 2010 Standard
    3: Repair Office 2010 ProPlus
Due to these steps, I've decided to make a task sequence to do the magic.
So far, so good, the "upgrade" is installing, and the MAP toolkit reports are showing the correct results from my test lab.
During the repair of Office 2010 ProPlus, the Office applications cannot
run, so I've created a task to copy a custom group policy to %systemroot%\System32\GroupPolicy to deny the affected users to start the applications.
After applying the group policies, I manually run a gpupdate /force on my test computer. The applications are not starting. Also - so far so good.
Ok, so here is my challenge:
Since the Task Sequence is running in context of the SYSTEM account, the applied group policy will not refresh the GPO's of the current logged on user. Meaning; during the installation / repair of Office 2010, the user can open all the applications regardless
of the applied GPO's, and I'd very much like to avoid that. The TS will fail otherwise. Yes, I know I can perform a restart to apply the policies, but I'd like to avoid that as well.
Any idea how can I solve this?

I think you're making it very complex for yourself. I think that the PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit would be very benificial for a situation like this. For more information have a look here:

  • Error when running gpupdate /force

when running gpupdate /force we see this error.  But.....only sometimes.    Some users see it others do not.
Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings. Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link.
We are running Windows 7 workstations and 2008 GPO's.
I've googled this and it points to permissions but this is happening on users who are Power Users or even on one Domain Admin's account.
Another thing someone mentioned is my Site to Zone Assignment list has an entry that has a trailing *.   I've checked and no entry has a trailing *
What causes this and how do you fix it?
    mqh7

    see answers below.
does it only happen on certain machines, no matter who is logged on there?  it seems pretty random.
Are those machines Win7 or Win8 or what?  Windows 7 x86 Enterprise
What IE version are those machines running?  version 9
Are the GP settings using ADMX or IEM or GPP or custom ?  I don't know.  how do I tell?
(From memory, site-to-zone, is an IEM function ?)  I don't know.
(I use GPP-Registry, to do our small amount of site-to-zone mappings. It's a little bit extra work to implement, but it does what we need very nicely ;)
What is GPP-Registry?    We use Group Policy Management Editor.

  • GPO Policy 'Applied' but not taking effect unless gpupdate /force is run

I do not yet have a 2012 DC or a Win 8 machine to manage IE 10 / 11 settings via GPMC. So I have created a policy with a registry setting so that users in a specific OU get specific .PAC settings in IE 11.
This is a user policy - that is linked and enforced at the specific OU level. It is the last processed User Policy. It appears in the top GPRESULT command
on the workstations, however the policy is not listed below the policy list when you run with a /v for
verbose - is this because it is a registry change? Or part of the issue?
I can see the policy being found, downloaded AND applied in the GP logs on multiple workstations. There no errors from any system for me to track down.
If I open IE after logging on (with an account in the specific OU), I do not see the settings for the PAC file. If I close IE and run GPUPDATE
/Force, I can open IE and see the settings and note that they do work.
The policy is only for users in this OU, it is set for Authenticated Users as it applies to all users in the OU - though I have added a few test accounts for my use.

    Hi,
I agree with others. By default, on clients, it will take 90 minutes interval for group policy settings to get refreshed at background. If we need to immediately update group policy settings, as you know, we can run command gpupdate/force to do this.
    Best regards,

  • Gpupdate /force

I'd like to run the command gpupdate /force on a remote system and display the results using powershell.

    PS C:\scripts> Enter-PSSession ws701
The first command uses the Enter-PSSession cmdlet to start an interactive session with ws701, a remote computer. When the session starts, the command prompt changes to include the computer name.
    [ws701]: PS C:\Users\testadmin\Documents> gpupdate /force
The second command refreshes local and Active Directory-based Group Policy settings. The command is run on the remote computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I automatically bring up the login window?

I'd like to be able to automatically bring up the login window, or automatically fast user switch to a non password protected account.
Basically, I have a computer with an account for me and one for my wife, and I'd like one for my daughter that will have parental controls implemented. I'd like to be able to have that account become active automatically if we leave either of the adult accounts idle for a while.
I would have thought I could do this easily with Automator or Applescript, but I can't figure out how.
I can't just use the built in "all log out" function in the Security pane because I have things running in the background under my account - so my account must remain logged in.
    Any thoughts? TIA!

The easiest thing to do would probably be to turn on 'Require Password when waking from sleep' in the Security preference pane.
Then, when someone goes back to the computer, it'll show a password input screen, but if you have FUS turned on, it will also have a 'Switch User' button that will take you back to the login screen.

  • Automatically launching iCal at Login:  is it a drain on system resources?

Since the persistent "July 17" iCal icon bugs me, I was thinking of having iCal automatically launch (hidden) at login.
Can anyone knowledgable of such things comment on if keeping iCal running all the time would be a drain on system resources?
I know the origin of the JUL 17 (the day iCal was first launched), but it's sort of a useless thing to note for anyone of than iCal software developers and Apple execs.

    Argelius,
I run iCal continuously and find that it has no adverse effect on my system performance, but depending upon many variables starting with RAM your mileage may vary. When hidden, iCal uses 0.00% of the CPU.
One of the best ways for you to determine the efficacy of an iCal automatic login with a continuously running but hidden iCal is to give it a try. If your system performance suffers, you should probably not use the automatic login feature.
If you read Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor, and search for Activity Monitor you will find several articles which relate to evaluating your system performance.
According to Troubleshooting Mac OS X by Dr. Smoke, some of the things that you can do to improve system performance are, getting more RAM, turning off the eye candy, make the Dock less entertaining, disabling window effects, using a static desktop background, skipping iTunes visuals, reducing the number of widgets, disabling automatic protection features, and removing unnecessary fonts.

  • Forced to login twice

Recently I've been experiencing a weird issue with my macbook pro, and i'm not too sure what the first point of call should be to troubleshoot. Every time I log into my machine (macbook pro), it will without fail get me to log on twice. Basically it works as follows:
    1) Boot up machine and it takes me to login screen (there are 2 user accouts on the mac)
    2) Put in credentials - here it processes something for a while before my machine reboots
    3) Takes me back to login screen without any acknowledgement of what happened
    4) Login again and it takes me into my profile fine
    I'm currently on Lion 10.7.2

UPDATE: I just heard back from PayPal, very quick response to my email actually (although when you first send it via the automated system, it emails you with a generic password issues email and you have to respond to that to get an actual human). But once I sent the second email, I got a very fast response. Here's my original email to PayPal: >>>My issue is that just in the last few weeks, I have to log in twice. The login on the PayPal home page won't accept my login like it used to, it always now sends me to a secondary login page where it says it needs more information from me. That login usually works, then takes me to the PayPal Verisign ID number entry page.     So I have to enter my username and password twice, which is bothersome because I use a long password.     It never used to do this before, I could always log in from the PayPal home page.  So something has changed in your system, or it's a bug?     There's a growing discussion about this problem in the PayPal Community, so I’m not the only one facing the problem:  https://www.paypal-community.com/t#/About-Business/I-m-being-forced-to-login-twice-every-time-from-every-device/td-p/######  >>> And here's the response from PayPal: >>>Thank you for contacting PayPal Customer Support. My name is ____ and I am happy to assist you with logging in.
I do have a known issue about you having to log in multiple times. I have added your account to the ticket #141113-000212. In the mean time I would try and delete your cache and cookies or try a different internet browser to see if the same issue occurs. If it does still occur please know we are working to resolve the issue. Please let me know if you need further assistance.>>> I tried deleting the cache and cookies (Chrome) and trying another browser (Firefox) that I have set to never save cookies or cache but I still get the same multiple login request.  So here's hoping they get it fixed soon, the good news is they're working on it.

  • GPO to force gpupdate /force?

Is there a GPO setting that will force all machines to run a gpupdate /force every 2 hours?
    mqh7

    Hi,
To run gpupdate /force command on multiple machines for every 2 hours, you can try PsExec tool in combination with Task Scheduler to accomplish your requirement. PsExec is
a light-weight telnet-replacement that lets you execute processes on other systems, complete with full interactivity for console applications, without having to manually install client software.

    Hi Nadeem,
You can find the max session idle time in table APEX_040000.WWV_FLOWS, attribute MAX_SESSION_IDLE_SEC .

  • Equivalent of sessionetc to "automatically" start applications on login ...

    JDS fans and experts:
I'm in the process of getting our user community to move from CDE to JDS on our Solaris 10 machines.
Because we have an environment where anyone logging into our machine is likely to want to run a particular application, we "automatically" start it for them in CDE by putting the command uses to start this application in the file named:
    /etc/skel/.dt/sessions/sessionetc
When we create a new user, then all of the /etc/skel stuff gets copied into their home directory ... and, as a result, they all have a file named ~/.dt/sessions/sessionetc that starts the desired application for them each time they login.
Is there an equivalent way to do this using JDS? Note: if it matters, we are using the latest JDS3 on Solaris 10u4 on an x86_64 platform.
    Thanks for your help,
    John

    JDS community:
Well, I think that I'm close to being able to answer my own question as to how to set up an application to start automatically.
As root, I've opened the file browser and pointed it to:
    preferences-all-users:///
Then I double-clicked the Desktop Preferences icon followed by double-clicking the Sessions icon.
That opens up a window with 3 tabs .... one being named: "Startup programs". That allows me to add additional programs to be started and assign it an order.
Great! I added the program that I wanted ... and it starts automatically
when I login again as root.
Unfortunately, however, despite having done this in the preferences-all-users:/// section, it seems to only start the application
when I login as root .... but doesn't seem to start it when I login as a normal user.
Is there something that I need to restart in order for this to take effect for all users? Or do I have something else messed up that would prevent something that seemed to be added a a startup application for all users from starting for anyone but root?
    Thanks for any additional insights,
    John

  • How can I force ALL logins and passwords to save/remember

I have upgraded to Firefox 8.0. However I can no longer force force Firefox to remember my logins and passwords for certain sites. I was able to do this with my old version by changing some config setting. However, I can not find anything about 8.0 where I can do that again. I'm running XP Pro. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.
