Automatic Updates written down in mozilla.cfg ?

I would like to update firefox automatically, written down in mozilla.cfg with the commands. But it dont works. Are the commands right ?
// enable auto application updates
pref("app.update.enabled", true);
pref("app.update.auto", true);
pref("app.update.mode", 0);
pref("app.update.silent", true);
pref("app.update.interval", 300);
pref("browser.search.update", true);

yeah sure, otherwise it wouldn't take the other options
look, this is our mozilla.cfg file:
//Firefox Default Settings
// set Firefox Default homepage
pref("browser.startup.homepage","http://www.amag.ch");
// disable default browser check
pref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false);
pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "ignore");
// enable auto application updates
lockPref("app.update.enabled", true);
lockPref("app.update.auto", true);
lockPref("app.update.mode", 0);
lockPref("app.update.silent", true);
lockPref("app.update.interval", 300);
lockPref("browser.search.update", true);
// disables the 'know your rights' button from displaying on first run
pref("browser.rights.3.shown", true);
// disables the request to send performance data from displaying
pref("toolkit.telemetry.rejected", true);
but somehow it dont want to update the firefox. actually we want, when someone installed firefox from our server and an update came out, that our employee dont have to update manually.

    automatic updater tries to run itself upon start up. How can I turn this off completely, I can choose updates on my own. Anyone with an A to Z instruction set? Thanks!

    #If you open up Firefox and open the Options from the Firefox Menu
    #Open the Advanced tab and click on Update Tab
    # Choose the update settings from here then restart Firefox. This will prevent automatic updates.

    However I do recommend updating for recent security issues addressed in Firefox.

    Did the crash reporter send any crash reports?<br />
    You can see the crash reports in this folder:
    "C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports"
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad

    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]<br /><br />
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br /><br />
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br /><br />

    If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • O K - - I use Mozilla Firefox and just recieved your notice of OPEN. Am I automatically updated (or) ???

    What do I need to do take advantage of OPEN since I already use Mozilla Firefox? I assume it is an automatic update, however I see no indication that is the case. Thanks, slvrfx43

    Do you mean there was a link about the Open Standard on your home page? That links leads to this website: https://openstandard.mozilla.org/
    You do not need to install any software to read the site, as far as I know.
    If you want to update Firefox, a "safe" way to do that is to use the About Firefox dialog. Either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > About Firefox
    * (menu bar) Help > About Firefox
    Or if you meant a different OPEN thing, could you describe it in more detail?

  • How To Make mozilla.cfg, override.ini, all-companyname.js, Files To Work Once And For All For All Users

    I'm currently trying to apply a fix to the firefox browser (version 23.0.1) on over 250 computers. Setting default webpages, disabling annoying prompts like the default browser and importing bookmarks, and erasing the history on shutdown, or startup. This is very easily done modifying the pref.js file, but I will not edit that file, it's out of the question. Another FF update will erase or overwrite all of my modifications.
    I run a computer lab in the university that is locked down using a Net Support School console. You don't need to look that up. Basically all websites are restricted except the ones the ones I whitelist. The websites we use have extensive API's for JS, CSS, Java, PHP, etc... We utilize technology in order for students to use graphing calculators, video's, and taking module test from these white-listed websites, like Pearson, or Aleks. Now with that said, cookies, and stored profile history become a problem, and on some day's up to 25% of the students using the computers need their entire history deleted in order for a page to load. I think I fixed this problem permanently by whitelisting backend sites importing plugins, and API's etc, that I found from the developers console. Whatever. What I've learned from all of this is that Firefox can be very customizable utilizing the "...\Mozilla Firefox\mozilla.cfg" and the "...\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\prefs\all-companyname.js" (or custom.js) The problem, is no matter what I try I can't get these to work. The closest I got was here:
    http://www.intrntpirate.com/?p=615
    Again, even that ^^ didn't work. I followed these directions to a "T". What is wrong with the above information provided in the link? Why is firefox making harder and harder for us to optimize it for massive deployments across a corporation and a university? I'm not going to do any fancy hacks to avoid the main issue. I need mozilla.cfg, and the all-companyname.js, and the override.ini files to work, if and only if they are still relevant.
    These are what my files look like so far:
    name: all-lmc.js<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\<br />
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");<br />
    pref("browser.startup.homepage", "https://(some url)");<br />
    name: override.ini<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\<br />
    [XRE]<br />
    EnableProfileMigrator=false<br />
    <br />
    name: mozilla.cfg<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\<br />
    //<br />
    lockPref("privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown", true);<br />
    lockPref("privacy.sanitize.promptOnSanitize", false);<br />
    lockPref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.enabled", false);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.prompted", 2);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.rejected", true);
    I've tried using, and not using, the automatic mozilla configurator. I've tried changing lockPref to pref. Nothing works. Not the override.ini, not the all-lmc.js, and not the mozilla.cfg. I've wasted hours reading through blogs of experts telling us to modify files that don't exist, or beating around the bush. I'm done researching. If you have the answer or want to help me figure this out just remember to keep it simple. Please. I ultimately want to package all the config files, with a how to, in a zip folder onto our shared drive. To have FF customized and ready to deploy to different departments across campus.

    Thanks very much for your help, but I'm still overlooking something. I double checked to make sure that I did not have a hidden .txt file extention. I then decided to abandon the lock on preferences idea until I get it working. I converted my mozilla.cfg file back to plain text. I made sure I do not have an extra blank line at the end of each file. The syntax looks good, as far as I can tell. I'll copy and paste what I have so far. Did I have the file locations correct posted above? Also, if you feel i can delete some lines of text in my mozilla.cfg file I'll be happy to do so.

  • After an automatic update, Firefox will start but immediately terminate. How can I fix this problem? I am sick and tired of manually un-installing Firefox!!

    Since Firefox version 12, after Firefox automatically applies an update, Firefox will launch and immediately terminate.
    The only solution is to manually un-install Firefox, completely clean the registry of Firefox entries, and manually re-install a previous version of Fiirefox that will work -- I use version 4.0. And then manually update that version to the current version.
    I DO NOT install the new automatic update option -- that is, the automatic maintenance option.
    BUT never the less, EVERY TIME I check for the latest version of Firefox using HELP --> About
    Firefox, the UPDATE is AUTOMATICALLY RUN and FIREFOX WILL NOT WORK AGAIN.
    I have put with this none sense for 18 versions of Firefox - MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!
    Thanks, David Breed

    You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u>:
    *On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
    *On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
    *Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

    Can you bring up the Profile Manager to create a new profile (possibly when starting in Safe Mode by holding down Shift)?
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues

  • How can I prevent Firefox from automatically updating?

    Hello,
    I am trying to prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29 (on OSX 10.7.5).
    I have the option "Never check for updates" checked under 'Update' in the 'Advanced' Preferences. I have "Automatically update Search Engines" unchecked. I have uninstalled Firefox 29 completely using two separate uninstall clean-up kits and emptied the trash before re-installing Firefox 28... Yet every time I finally re-arrange, customize and re-sync Firefox 28 back to the way I like it, I restart my Mac and Firefox 29 rears it's over-drawn, bubbly, space-wasting, UN-SYNCED, ridiculous tabs on top nonsense user interface.
    I've tried to work with Firefox 29 but the new SYNC simply does not work and that's a deal breaker. I need the changes I make on my mac to be reflected across the other two systems on my desk (one WinXP, one Win7) and vice versa. When I try to sync on FF29 it takes me to a page to log in and then refuses to recognize my email and password (which I have thoroughly confirmed on my other systems as correct).
    Can you please help me prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29?

    Thank you for your comments, cor-el.
    Yes, I know about Classic Theme Restorer, but the point is what gives Mozilla the right to update my Firefox when I already have quite clearly set every option to prevent automatic updates?
    I have set:
    app.update.auto - false
    app.update.enabled - false
    app.update.silent - false
    So which secret magic setting has Mozilla used to bypass all these settings and what gives them the right to do it?
    Also, moving the tabs bar and menu bar and whatever else has been moved in Firefox 29 is a THEME change. It is not a security fix. Mozilla should not be in the business of changing the theme or look of Firefox. It is not their business how I want my Firefox to look.
    Regarding "tabs", I have mine down the left side, so this tweaking of the tab bar position is pointless anyway.
    To Mozilla, Just for absolute clarification, there is no way you can possibly justify forcing an update on users computers without their explicit acceptance.
    What if someone found out how Mozilla forced the update? They could then force an update that is NOT a genuine Firefox release and do untold damage to peoples' computers.
    So now I am forced to delete Firefox from my startup script and start it manually just in case their is another forced update that I can stop.
    To cor-el, thank you for your post.
    To Mozilla, you have lost the plot.

  • Windows 8 to 8.1 automatic update doesn't finish

    (Model # m6-k010dx) My new laptop after 13 months automatically updated from windows 8 to 8.1 after I had said 'no' as many times as it allowed. After the update my files are still on it and most things are there but it seems 'stuck' and the orange screen keeps flickering like start to desktop so fast you usually can't even click anything in time to open it before it switches. I was told that the drivers probably needed to be updated first (eventhough I am pretty sure I kept up with all my other updates that popped up the only one I postponed was 8.1) and that I should refresh it, so I lose my programs but keep my files. I'm so sad I now lost Photoshop cs6 and my prefered antivirus (webroot) But anyway back to 8.0, it functioned fine aside from annoying pop ups to install norton antivirus no thank you, i bought webroot again. no updates were available.
    I went to HP.com drivers update, searched for my pc and its correct update, and next thing I know is it's installing windows 8.1....??!
    So again when it's 'done' and reboots, the screens flicker forever. I shut down, restart, same. so I put it back to windows 8... i have just been borrowing my friends computer to get work down and contact geeksquad on my 1 day off but they only tell me to go to best buy and pay them $127 for them to update my PC to an UNWANTED OS. But i have to give my friend his PC back soon. Please help asap!!!
    Also forgot to mention when the screens are flickering, a few explorer.exe - application errors pop up on occaision. IE: "the instruction at 0xaa0c663c referenced memory at 0xaa0c663c. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program." was one the last time,
    and the time before it, the initial windows 8.1 update when I still had Webroot antivirus, the pop up said "the instruction at 0x9b63663c referenced memory at 0x9b63663c. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program." the other pop ups the initial time came from Webroot - IE: "This file is trying to install itself to start every time the computer turns on  C:\Windows\system32\DrvInst.exe" and gives the options to block, allow once, or allow always.
    Another trying to install every time computer starts is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\WMIADAP.EXE"
    and another is : "Process ID: 4244
    Thread ID: 3460
    Event Type: Registry
    Access: Write
    Registry Key: \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NDIS\IfTypes\131
    Value: IfUsedNetLuidIndices"
    I searched all of those but found nothing. THank you in advance

    Hi @ASAP666
    Thank you for your query, I will try my utmost to help you resolve this difficulty.
    As you seem to be getting multiple errors I suggest you do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
    This will reinstall the Windows 8 OS but should not affect your personal setting.
    If you do not want the update here is a link to  Turn automatic updating on or off
    from windows.microsoft.com
    Before trying the update again please run the  HP Support Assistant   to aid with HP updates?
    Once that has be accomplished here is a link to Updating Windows 8 to 8.1 to help you with the Windows 8.1 update.
    If you do not want the Norton as you have Webroot you can uninstall the program.
    Good Luck!

    user_pref doesn't work in mozilla.cfg<br />
    Also the proper name of the function is lockPref() and not lockpref().
    See:

    These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:

  • Is there a feature that can automatically update the price of an item?

    I am currently making a 'Checklist Total' on Numbers and I have a few items down and their prices.
    Is there a feature where it can update the price typed on the screen corresponding to the price of the item online.
    Example: I put a pair of headphones on the spreadsheet and I put a price next to them. Every time this price decreases or increases on a specific website, for example Amazon, the new price appears in place of the old price written down on the spreadsheet.
    I'd appreciate any answer or hints to where I might also find the answer.
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
    This kind of capability is not built into Numbers.
    However, it is not too hard to have an AppleScript automatically fetch a price from the web and update a Numbers spreadsheet.
    This doesn't work well for many web pages, but for many it does work.
    If you have a specific page in mind post it and I will see if I can provide an example.

  • Firefox automatically sends some data to mozilla so that we can improve your experience.

    i tried asking this in a similar topic and got no response and marked as answered so ill ask it again. i already had 'Enable Telemetry' and 'Enable Crash Reporter' disabled but i still got the popup. i'm not sure why firefox is saying it's automatically sending mozilla data when both options are disabled.
    it used to say
    will you help improve mozilla firefox by sending information about performance, hardware, usage and customizations to mozilla?
    but that was changed to
    firefox automatically sends some data to mozilla so that we can improve your experience.
    this makes me think firefox is still sending data regardless. so as long as both of those options are disabled firefox is not sending ANY info about me? if that's the case mozilla really needs to update the message. privacy policies are usually so vague and shadily written by lawyers that they are just about useless.

    Firefox 20 has a new message to prompt you to check your settings. This is in preparation for a future feature called health reporting, but currently the only categories are the same old ones: telemetry and crash data.

  • Turn off automatic updater prior to installing Firefox.

    I am about to deploy firefox to about 100 XP machines. I would like to turn off the Firefox automatic updater function prior to the install to the machine. I need to control what version of Firefox each user has.

    You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new default values.
    Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:

    You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
    defaultPref(); // set new default value
    pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
    lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
