Automatically copy/paste tables

I am placing equations inside of tables and will have hundreds of them. The tables will be very similiar, but will have different numbers of rows (1-5). They usually have 1 column, but may have 2-3.
I want to find an efficient way of getting a new table into place. One method is to copy/paste from a file has the various table sizes (prebuilt). The two files (working and tables) could be tiled, but this eats up a lot workspace. Unfortunately, libraries and snippets won't work because it has to be inside of a text frame. I simply want the table, without the frame.
Any better ideas?

If you don't want to take up screen real estate then I say switching inbetween docs using keyboard shortcuts would be efficient.
Or as I say copy all the text from the other document and place it on the pasteboard and you grab the content as you move along the document.
Other than that - I don't know how a script could target the specific table in another document?
Perhaps it could be scripted? Have you tried the Scripting forum?

Why can't I copy/paste tables correctly? (CS6)

Sorry for having to ask such a basic question. I am new to ID.
I am following this tutorial:

At 25:10, he creates a 2x16 table into which he pastes a table from iWork Pages. He does this by:
- Selecting the entire table in Pages
- Selecting every cell in the blank ID table
- Copying the Pages table and hitting paste in ID
The Pages table is mapped, cell for cell, to the ID table.
However, when I try this method, only the lefthand side of the ID table is populated. Every Pages cell ends up in the left hand column (the number of rows increases to accommodate them) and the right hand side is left empty.
What am I doing wrong? Is this the standard way of copying/pasting tables? Is there a better method?

Arghh. As far as I can tell, I'm doing all that. It just won't paste properly.
Here's what I do:
Using type tool, I click on the destination frame.
I insert the 2x16 table.
I select all the cells in Pages and copy them.
Using type tool, I select all the cells in ID.
I hit paste.
The only thing I can think of it that ID is expecting the table in one format, and Pages is copying the table to the clipboard in another format.

Automate copy/paste

I'm working on a catalogue where i have each product listed with text and pictures. Under each product, I got a table where the item number, description and price are going to be. All this info is in a excel table. Some products has more than one listing in the same table and some has only one. What i'm hoping to achieve is to automate this process and get indesign to understand what info is going into the correct table. Is this possible or is the old copy/pate my only option?

Data merge can do the image and the stuff to the right (your bulleted lists can be handled as either one cell, with a marker that you'll change to creat multiple bulleted paragraphs after the merge, or one cell per bullet item. The table below will need to have one cell in each record for each of the maximum number of cells that will be in any of these tables, so if you have three rows of three, that's nine columns in the Excel Spread sheet, each with a unique name at the top (r1-c1, r1-c2, ... r3-c2, r3-c3 for example). EVERY product needs to have all of the columns, and each column gets a unqiue tag. If a product doesn't use all of the columns, leave them blank and they will be blank in the merge. If there is nothing on a line in the merged document but blank fields (and nothing means no punctuation or whitespace, too), the line will be removed. I don't think this will work without some manual intervention, though, for building an actual table. You'll wind up having to remove the blank rows yourself. This also gets a bit more complicated by the fact that a merged doc is a series of individual frames, so unless you thread them after the merge (Rorohiko has a script to do this) adjusting a frame size won't affect others on the page, and if you do thread them, the best technique I've found is to thread, then delete all but the first frame, adjust it to fill the page, then pick up the overset and autoflow ont the following apges so you have only one frame per page.
You really might want to look at something like Easy Catalog before getting too deep into this.

SE37, Function module test, copy & paste table values ?!?!

if i run a function module test with se37 and want to fill the table values from the clipboard, nothing happens.
There is a button in the Status line called "Insert Data" with the clipboard symbol but it seems not to work...
Anyone here who knows how to solve this ? By the way are there any new transactions for testing function modules, where ALV Grid is used for parameter transfer for the tables ?

If you check that properly it is for INSERT DATE not data so it may be used to insert Dates in date fields i guess.
As it is only for testing FM's, you cannot expect all functionalities there, otherwise you have to write a sample program to check the FM using CALL Function.

How to copy paste a table structure from word document into Text Field [field format Rich Text]

In our current implementation we have a Blank page with Text Field [field format Rich Text] on generated PDF Document.
Once the PDF document is generated, user can copy paste content form any word/rtf document to into the Text Field.
Pasted content retains all text formatting [Bold, Italic, Underline, Indentation] except the Table format. Text Field is removing table metadata from the content and converting it into plant text.
Is there anyway to copy paste table structure as it is from word document into Text Field?

I don't think you can! While you can paste formatted text into the rich text field, the table metadata means nothing to the textfield.

How can I copy/paste rows inside the same table?
I tried with ITableModel, but its function CanPaste() returns me kFalse. And I tried with kTableCopyPasteCmdBoss/ITableCopyPasteCmdData, it crashed.

You are correct, but this behavior has always amazed me. ID *never* inserts the correct amount of copied rows inbetween others -- rather, you have to count how much you are going to copy, then insert blanks, then paste, then double-check you didn't accidentally overwrite existing ones!
If you are writing a general plugin to handle tables, you might think about doing this automatically. I don't know, perhaps you can test how much rows are "in the copy buffer" at the time of pasting.

Copy-paste of a chart or table in new iWork creates a low resolution raster rather than a vector

In iWork '09 I regularly copied charts, tables, etc. from iWork applications to other applications. They were in vector format. For instance, I have made a chart in Numbers, copied it, and pasted in Preview. This resulted in a vector which I saved to PDF, everything in less than 5 seconds.
It seems that in the new iWork this is not possible anymore, because the result is a low-resolution raster, which totally broke my workflows.
Is this an "enhacement" of the new iWork or I am missing something?

A possible explanation for our discrepency:
If I copy an entire page from a vector pdf using the thumnails bar in preview and paste that page into keynote, the image is a raster.
If I select a portion of that page with the preview selection tool, copy, and paste into keynote, the image is a vector.
This issue is especially damaging because I can't drag and drop pdf files I create into keynote. Major bugs have been introduced with regards to vector images, and I'm unable to identify a single rule characterizing this process. This is a disaster as I've relied on keynote as a longterm storage and organization tool for many vector images. Many of these images have now been corrupted in what I assume is an irreversible process.

How do I autofill left to right (or copy/paste) from data that is up and down in another table?

I have source data that is in a table as a column, and I would like to have it autofilled (simply copy/paste if need be) into a row in a separate table. Is there an easy way to do this without doing each cell individually?

Table Drag and Drop/Copy-paste

Hi all
I use dreamweaver CS 5.5 on a macmini.
I'm pretty new to the whole dreamweaver-stuff and use it mainly for converting websites into html. I normally do that via copy-paste:
Copy text from website - paste in dreamweaver preview - edit in dreamweaver code-view
Now there's one big problem: If I copy a Table, it doesnt paste it, at all. It pastes just nothing.
If I drag'n'drop it, it will only paste the data in the cells, no tab, resulting in a huge test without any format in it and useless to me.
Is this a known problem? What can I do about it?

I would appreciate some guidance in creating a copy/paste script from multiple numbers tables into a different single table within the same numbers document.
The columns in the source table are in different positions to the destination table.
So for example, i would want to copy…
Sheet 1, Table 1 Cell A3 copy to Sheet 2 Table Z Cell B2
Sheet 1, Table 1 Cell B3 copy to Sheet 2 Table Z Cell C2
Sheet 1, Table 1 Cell C3 copy to Sheet 2 Table Z Cell E2

and repeat the copy/paste on subsequent rows of each table until there is an empty row in Sheet 1 Table 1 (or if this is difficult, say set the repeat to a max of 30 rows).
The script would then need to move on to Sheet 1 Table 2, and do the same copying to Sheet 2 Table Z (from where the previous copy/paste finished in Table Z).
Repeat process would finalise with Sheet 1 Table 6.
The Paste part would need to be pasting values, as the cells in the source tables do contain some formulas.
At the moment this is all done manually and does take some to to undertake.
If anyone can help, i would be very grateful.

are you trying to aggregate data from severl tables into a single table? If so you whould be able to do this without a script. The function indirect() will allow you to construct the proper formula, which you may fill over (in the same row) to the appropriate cells, then fill down.
Here is a small example:
There are three data tables ("Table 1", "Table 2", and "Table 3"). And a summary "Table Z"
In table Z make the first row a header (as shown):
Use column A to enter the Sheet name and colomn B to enter the table name.
In row 1 (the header), enter the cells you want to get
in cell C2 type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=INDIRECT($A2&"::"&$B2&"::"&C$1)
now select cell C2, copy now select cell C2 thru H2, paste
now select the cells C2 thu H2, hover the corsor over the bottom edge of the selection, and drag the yellow cirlc down as needed to fill the formula down.
Update the sheet and table names as needed for each row

I am attempting to write Applescript code to copy a table in Safari and paste special, as text, to an Excel worksheet.
When I perform the operation manually, all the rows of the Safari table are pasted into Excel in a single column, i.e. after all of the data in a row of a table is pasted vertically into Excel,the next row is pasted in the next open cell below in the same column, as I need it.
When I use the applescript line..."paste special on worksheet format text" Excel pastes the table data in rows AND columns , like the table looks in Safari, but I do not want it pasted this way.
Any ideas on how to get my Applescript code to perform the same manual operation?

I do not know what Excel you have, but to copy a table from a Safari's page, you could use the table tags of the page's source to get the table you want.
That is, use text item delimiters.
