Automation using Services like Cfg_Vod_Import_Simulator

Hi guys,
I have a script which we are using for automation trying to load Siebel Products using Cfg_Vod_Import_Simulator (which i believe is one of the service). Its working in most of the environments which has default siebel root (/apps/bss/sieb) but not working in environments which don't have "sieb" as default root. Those environments are like (/apps/bss/sieblw) or (/apps/bss/siebmr)..so on & so forth. While trying to use the service, I get this error

It would be great if someone could advice as to whether we need to manually import a particular service "Cfg_Vod_Import_Simulator" into the environments without "sieb" as default root because i tend to think this is a configuration issue.
Plz advice as I would like to have this issue resolved asap. Let me know if any further details are required.

You can IM on the iPad, if you look in the AppStore Yahoo has an app and so does AIM.
What kind of videos are you wanting to watch? Are they divx/Xvid, .h264 etc? The iPad reads MP4 video format so searching Google for Convert X(X being the video type) to MP4

Yes you can. Just make sure you have iMesages on. You will need to go into Settings>Messages and turn it on and log in to their Apple IDs. I was having some activation issues when I first got my iPhone 4S [it was the carrier's fault, not the iPhone's] and I was using iMessages with my Apple ID to text my friends who had iPhones. I of course had to be connected to Wi-Fi for it to work. Hope that helps.
You could also have them download a texting app and they could use that on Wi-Fi. There are many free ones out there. I personally enjoy Text Now. Gives you your own phone number so others can text you too, not just iDevices.

Change selected file in automator using applescript ???

So I'm getting better at using Automator to create useful Services but still a bit of a newbie with doing powerful things with AppleScript... and I think this task requires some applescripting. Here's what I want to do:
1. Based on a selected text file I want to run a pre-existing script that converts this file into an HTML file. This new file has the same name as the text file but has the .html extension rather than the .txt extension. (This step is easy enough with Automator and it works just fine already.)
2. BUT NOW, I want to take that resulting HTML file and run another pre-existing script that converts the HTML file into an RTF file. The problem is that I basically want to change the selection from selectedfile.TXT to selectedfile.HTML so that I can proceed to this next step...
3. AND THEN, I want to launch an app with this resulting RTF file. Again, I need to change the selection to selectedfile.RTF.
Right now this requires me to run three different automator services, and changing the selected file between each step... But I'm sure there's an easy applescript way (or other way) to do this using just one service -- probably involves some filename parsing and some magic to change the selection??? -- or something like that...
Could anyone point me in the right direction???

Have you considered using a bash script? You can even write the script in an Automator Service.
Open Automator and select Service from the main screen. Set the ‘Service Receives Selected’ pop-up menu to Files or Folders, and set the ‘in’ pop-up to Finder. Drag Run Shell Script from the Utilities section of the actions library into the workflow area. Set Pass Input to As Arguments. Replace the sample code in the input area with this:

Is there a way to have all/ the important files shared on two mac computers without a service like dropbox?

I was looking to get a Mac Mini to use with my Cinema Display so I had something of a desktop computing station. I am concerned though of the ability to have all or at least my word documents, power points, etc., graphic projects, my pdfs, and my non iphoto images transfering between computers. I currently have a macbook air running 10.8.4 and plan to upgrade to Maverics when it comes out. I DO NOT want to use a service like Dropbox. I would much rather prefer a smooth and automatic transfer of the files without any steps to transfer. Please let me know if AND HOW this is possible.

Simple file sharing SHOULD do this on the local network as BDAqua points out. If you want to physcially move files without having to go through uploading and downloading via Dropbox, use FileDrop. It's free and files go directly to the receiving computer through your LAN - in ONE step.

how do I view a list of connections (Connected users) to a service like web or file services? you used to be able to do this in Server Admin in 10.6 by lleft clicking on a service like file sharing and the clicking connections located towards the top of the server admin window. This seems to havedisappeared in Lion server and its a useful feature

Do we have any parameter to limit the runtime of the HTML services like BEx

Dear all,
In one of our BI production system few RFC usersu2019 lunches BEX WEB analyzer using html service and they are leaving their sessions for ever, which in turn causes Obsolete lock entries in SM12.
I know that we have parameter (rdisp/max_wprun_time) to limit the dialog work process run time.
Do we have any parameter to limit the runtime of the HTML services like BEx WeB. Please suggest me how to Limit RFC users runtime.

you can use an ICM timeout - but then this will also affect long running queries if you set it too low.
icm timeout is a system parameter and not specific to your query alone.
Otherwise you can have a portal and setup DSM ( Distributed Session Management) to handle the same...

The things I have done so far:
1. Deployed the custom library and refered in library references. Its the same name as it is Visual Admin
2. Added Cache API Jar file as external Jar file; added the Sharing reference and also all the steps mentioned in the following link:
Webdynpro DC and J2EE DC
3. The DC builds properly but fails at deployment
My question is there any way that I can manually start the service.
I find the application in Server >> Services >> Deploy is with invalid kind of symbol (neither blue checked symbol / red cross symbol). How do I restore the application
I using ICacheServices in my code using Sharing references
like (ICacheService)WDPortalUtils.getServiceReferences("com.sap.compatibility50.cache.cache"). is this right

Driving Automator using Voice Over

Hello,
I am visually impaired and so use Voice Over for all MAC access. I am trying to create a workflow to speak the current time. Using Voice Over without sighted assistance I can access the required actions and variables but alas I cannot fathom out how to combine the actions into a workflow. I cannot find an edit area or whatever where I can view the actions so far and move them around as necessary.The MacHelp tells me to drag and drop the necessary actions and variables into the panel on the right (or words like that) but, of course, I cannot do that using Voice Over. I tried copy and paste but to no effect, primarily because I could not find the place to paste the actions into.
So if anyone has successfully driven Automator using Voice Over without sighted help then please pass on your tips!

All I can suggest is to look at the instructions in the Users Guide. There is a lot on VoiceOver. See chapter 31 of

Why should i use Apple 'Mail' if i use others like G-Mail?

Simply: Can or should i just remove 'A-Mail' so it's icon stops jumping & bothering me to sign up?

BACKGROUND, if necessary:
•For years I've used only the Mail service of my ISP, Dslextreme ('DSLX').
I've never used Apple 'Mail' , & never set it up to service mail from any of the mail services that i do use.
I never activated 'A-Mail' and i don't think there is mail in it. Nor have i deactivated 'A-Mail', and it's still on my screen in the 'Dock'.
•But from time to time, and inexplicably to me, the 'A-Mail' icon seems prompted to start 'jumping' and wanting me to use it somehow, like sign up for it. This was a minor annoyance so i just clicked to close it and so ignored it and moved on.
This seems to happen when a website i'm on wants me to e-mail them and on their page i seem only have a choice to use 'A-Mail', none other, so i am pre-cluded from communication.
•Just recently DSLextreme switched all us users over to G-Mail.   They turned over their mail operation to GMail and urged us to also getting a G-Account, which i have finally done.

Apple mail is simply the default email application in OS X. It is not an email service/email address.
Using an email application, you can read all your email in the same place and store them on your local drive.
To answer your question, "Why should i use Apple 'Mail' if i use others like G-Mail?"
You use a mail application for the same reason you use the internet when you could simply drive to the store to buy things or go get a newspaper or go to the library or go to the movie theater, etc.

Sounds like you simply use a web browser to view all your email.
If you want to send an email from a web page, you need to copy an email address, open your email account in your web browser, create a new email and paste the address.

Using LCCS like Stratus

I need a rendezvous service like Stratus to establish P2P connections, but I need it for a commercial purpose (which Stratus prohibits). Can I achieve the same with LCCS? I don't want rooms, etc. just a simple connection to stream arbitrary data between two clients.

Yes. But you have to pay full retail price which would be $600-$850.
It does require a SIM card to activate the phone on iTunes, but you do not need to use a sim card with cell service, any SIM card will do.
Choose a phone that is carrier unlocked BUT compatible with your current cell network ( or the network you want )
Warning on purchasing used phones....
the iPhone has an activation lock feature to prevent a phone from being used by a thief. It cannot be defeated. Thieves often sell iPhones that are locked to an Apple ID knowing the buyer will not be able to activate it on iTunes. CYA as they say.
IF you decide to put it on your cell account, you will not have to sign a contract. the carrier will provide a valid SIM card so you will have cell service.

Distinctive ring vs. new line vs. adding VOIP service like Vonage or Ooma

I'm currently a FIOS/phone (double play) customer. I need an additional phone number and am considering my options (getting a new line put in, signing up for a new VOIP service like VOnage, going cheap & just getting distinctive ring), trying to understand everything and weigh the costs/functionality/gotchas.
"Distinctive Ring" is a new option I just learned about, and it seems the easiest, and definitely the cheapest (around $5 extra a month). However it also seems the most limited and there are a few things I don't understand for 100%.
If anyone can answer any of these questions I'd appreciate it:
- Can you setup SEPERATE voicemail greetings for the existing landline vs. the new "distinctive" ring number? Or would everyone calling hear the same greeting?
- If only same outgoing message can be used, then I assume that each number uses the same voicemailbox, but can you setup different mailboxes for each line in a different way, like having your outgoing message say "Press 1 to leave message for Herman or press 2 to leave message for Granpa", thus create at least quasi-seperate voicemailboxes based on who the person was trying to call? And if so, how?
- As I understand it not all phones support "distinctive ring" - so how can I findout which of my existing phones do support this (other than signing up for the service then calling myself and seeing how the phones behave)?
- Is there any way for my callerID boxes to show which # it is that is being called instead of just who is calling?
- And is this true, that calling out I would only be placing calls from my original line, that for example on callerid of who I am calling, even if pressing callback on my phone and they called my new second #, they would see my original #, not the new one?

Hi, the only tip I can give you is as far as testing if your phone is compatible with distinctive ring you could try one of two things, neither of which are free unfortunately.
1) Call a number that is busy and then use Repeat Dial (*66) to let you know when the number is free. You will get a special ringback when the number is no longer busy.
2) Try dialing *61 on your Verizon landline phone. In many states you will reach a feature called either Priority Call or Selective Distinctive Alert. If you add numbers to the list, when those numbers call you there will be different kinds of special rings on your phone.
Again, there will be charges on your Verizon bill to do either of these. If you use *61, be sure to clear your list and turn off the feature when you are done so you will not incur any further charges.

Automator Applescript Service Workflow

I have created a few Service workflows using Automator, but one in particular is giving me a hard time. I stop a process with one script using "do shell script" and "with administrator privileges" and everything runs fine. When I run the workflow from the services commands to start the process again, it starts, but I end up with the spinning gear in the menu bar as though the script has not finished. Does anybody know if this is a bug in automator/scriptable services menu or is this a bug in applescript? Again, this doesn't happen when I stop the process, only when I staRT IT UP AGAIN.

Does the latest cFP product offering support web services like the cRIO?

I'm wondering if the cFP family supports web services like cRIO. I used cFP with LV8.5 a few years ago and there was no support.
