Autonumber in oracle

how can i create autonumber using sql???
i wan to create a table TB1 and have a tableID which is autonumber....strart with 100001,100002,100003.....the number is auto increment when i insert a new record...

You can use Sequence ( either inside a trigger or directly from your code) to auto generate id every time you insert a record in database
See details here

  • AutoNumber data type

    Hello.
    First of all, I need to tell you that I am a newbie to Oracle and I am not even sure if I am at the right place...
    Here is my question anyhow.
    I am trying to convert a MS Access table to that of Oracle and was wondering what would be the equivalent data type in Oracle for "AutoNumber" data type in MS Access? I heard that I can use sequence object and trigger to do this but I am interested in knowing whether or not there is an equivalent data type for "AutoNumber" is in Oracle.
    Thanx.

    No, there is no Access-equivalent autonumber in Oracle. If you want automatic key generation, create an oracle Sequence and increment it using an insert trigger. Front end applications will see no difference - i.e. you add the new record, then you can read back the generated key.

  • Implement check for File Names with data into TRG table

    hi,
    I am trying to load the Multiple files names & Autonumber to oracle table T1 which is further loaded the auto-number with data to target table TRG. My problem is when the same name file comes again due to size then load it again. & also don't insert Target (TRG) table rows with same data while insert the only those records/rows which are not in Target Table(TRG) .. Is this standard approach. becoz in this way I thing loading Performance speed will b down??
    Any other or best recommended approach???/
    Thanks

    Hey Jason,
    Create a validation of type exists. in expression 1 put:
    SELECT 1
    FROM DUAL
    WHERE UPPER(:P9_FILE) LIKE '%TEST.HTML';
    {code}
    change P9_FILE to your file browse item name and change '%TEST.HTML' to '%YOUR_FILE_NAME'
    Hope this helps,

  • JBoss Can't find Oracle Driver

    Hello, everyone,
    I'm hoping someone can help me.
    I've created a small web service. I have one method which returns something very straight forward, and it works fine.
    I have then progressed this to try to return some data from an Oracle table.
    However, when I try to do this, I get an error back saying that the Oracle Driver can not be found.
    I am using JBoss, and am running this in Eclipse's Web Service Explorer.
    The things I have tried to solve the issue are:
    - Ensuring the Oracle driver is located in Windows>Preferences>General>Data Management>Connectivity>Driver Definitions
    - Placing the Oracle driver jar in as many lib folders in my JBoss directory on my C drive as possible (I may have missed some out).
    I am not sure what else to try. Please can someone help me or point me in the right direction?
    Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Robin

    You have to put the path of the driver jar file on server.xml file. If you open up the server.xml file inside the config directory of the appserver instance you will find all the paths are added to <java-config java-home = tag. So place the path in this place. Then there should not be any problem getting the driver.
    Thanks

  • Oracle insert problem(records not in the order they are inserted)

    hi, all:
    I tried to insert a word list into a oracle table, everything is fine except that the words are not in the order they are inserted. For example, the words are inserted in the following sequence:
    accreted
    accreting
    accretion
    accretionary
    accretive
    bladebone
    bladed
    bladeless
    bladelike
    When I retrived the resultset from the table and iterate through each of the record, the words are not in the order inserted, i.e., it may look like this,
    accreted
    accreting
    bladebone
    bladed
    accretion
    accretionary
    accretive
    bladeless
    bladelike
    This strange phenomenon won't happen when the word list is small, like 500 words or so, but when the number of words reaches around 10,000, it takes place. My coworker also experienced this problem when trying to insert large volume of data into oracle table.
    The code I used to insert into the DB table:
    BufferedReader reader=new BufferedReader(new FileReader("C:\\Dictionary.txt"));
    while( (line=reader.readLine())!=null )
         sql="INSERT INTO DICT " +
         "VALUES ('" + line +"')";
         statement.executeUpdate(sql);
    Any advice will be highly appreciated,
    thanks

    Well, the best thing to do is follows scsi-boy's advice and add the additional column and either put a sequence number in it from the Java side as you insert, or use an Oracle sequence object to put a sequence number in it from the Oracle side (which is sort of like an auto-generated value, but different).
    Note that an Oracle sequence generates numbers in sequence, but possibly with gaps (usually if the database is rebooted), unless you do some things that slow sequences down substantially. Sequences can also be something of a bottleneck on RAC clusters. See:
    http://www.dizwell.com/oracle/articles/autonumbering.html
    However, if your coworker is commiting after each and every insert (which is bad form and slows the database down, -10 points), and if your coworker is also never ever ever updating the columns after they've been inserted, and if your coworker is using Oracle 10g and not some older version such as 9i, then your coworker could use the ORA_ROWSCN pseudo-column to order by. Those are very very severe constraints and you shouldn't begin to consider doing it that way without a very good reason, and right now you and your coworker wouldn't know a good reason if it snuck up and bit you on the butt, you've got a lot of learning the basics first.

  • Oracle equivalent of...

    What is the oracle equivalent of a sql datatype bigint as an IDENTITY column with identity seed 1 and identity increment 1. I am very new to oracle so I am using TOAD to create this table. So im just looking for a KEY field such as an ID field that just creates its own number every time data is entered into any column.
    Kind of like ACCESS's autonumber field. Where or what datatype in TOAD do I select for this and tell it that it should automatically create the next ID number.
    For example I insert 4 rows
    "Jon"
    "Bob"
    "Steve"
    "Mark"
    The result in the table should be:
    1 Jon
    2 Bob
    3 Steve
    4 Mark
    (the numbers are automatic)...If I delete steve then it becomes
    1 Jon
    2 Bob
    4 Mark
    (gaps are of course OK since this is just an identity column).
    Thanks,
    Jon
    PS: Is there a way toi change my oracle forum password ? I cant seem to find that either.

    You can use a sequence and insert it in a trigger :
    TEST@db102 SQL> create sequence test_seq nocache;
    Sequence created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> create table test(c1 number not null , c2 varchar2(50));
    Table created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> create or replace trigger test_trig
      2  before insert on test
      3  for each row
      4  begin
      5     select test_seq.nextval into :new.c1 from dual;
      6* end;
    TEST@db102 SQL> /
    Trigger created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> insert into test(c2) values('Jon');
    1 row created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> insert into test(c2) values('Bob');
    1 row created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> insert into test(c2) values('Steve');
    1 row created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> insert into test(c2) values('Mark');
    1 row created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> select * from test;
            C1 C2
             1 Jon
             2 Bob
             3 Steve
             4 Mark

  • Autonumber setting overwritten

    I have over 100 tables in an oracle database where each of them has a corresponding sequence generator. For each of the physical services corresponding to these tables, I have gone to the trouble of setting the autonumber property so that the corresponding sequence generator gets "fired". (thank you to Igor for this guidance). My problem is: When I update my metadata (whenever there is a database change), these properties in the physical layer get "wiped" clean. What tricks are there out there that can be used to keep this from happening? Is there a batch utilitiy that can be run so that if a table is called "foo", the the sequnce "foo_seq" gets associated with it in the corresponding physical data service (as an autonumber property)?
    Thanks in advance.
    SCott

    Please open an enhancement request. Be sure to ask for both of
    1) When databases tables are imported, that autogenerated columns are detected and the appropriate metadata is created (this may not be possible as the jdbc metadata may not provide sufficient information); and
    2) When database metadata is updated, that user-modified information be preserved. This gets a little tricky as your database modification might involve removing the autogenerated aspect of those columns, thus keeping the autogenerated metadata would be incorrect. Hopefully (1) is possible.

  • AUTONUMBER question

    Hi Fellows.
    I'd like to ask a question. In the Oracle Migration Reference .pdf, there is a description of how to emulate MS Access AUTONUMBER data format inside an migrated db from Access to Oracle platform using triggers.
    But we found that there is no need to use any trigger for that. Inserting data either from Access or from Oracle via DBA Studio causes the AUTONUMBER value to be automatically increased.
    I would like to ask what the described trigger in the .pdf file is needed for.
    Thanks in advance.
    Marcos Yoshiaki Ibuki

    Hi Marcos,
    When an Access database is migrated to Oracle using the Migration Workbench a sequence is created holding the next value in the auto-number sequence. A trigger is then used to emulate the auto-number functionality
    provided by Access. No manual intervention is required for the database being migrated. The reason a description is provided in the reference is to make the user aware that the AUTONUMBER data type is not available in Oracle. The reference can be used by the database user should they be adding new tables post migration which require the AUTONUMBER functionality.
    I hope this answers your question,
    Could you direct any other queries to

  • Autonumber in SQL

    Is there a way i can get an autonumber in SQL,
    I have a databse and i want the database to have a primary key that is an autonumber, whenever a row is added it automatically enters the key in there.

    CREATE SEQUENCE
    Purpose
    Use the CREATE SEQUENCE statement to create a sequence, which is a database object from which multiple users may generate unique integers. You can use sequences to automatically generate primary key values.
    When a sequence number is generated, the sequence is incremented, independent of the transaction committing or rolling back. If two users concurrently increment the same sequence, the sequence numbers each user acquires may have gaps because sequence numbers are being generated by the other user. One user can never acquire the sequence number generated by another user. Once a sequence value is generated by one user, that user can continue to access that value regardless of whether the sequence is incremented by another user.
    Sequence numbers are generated independently of tables, so the same sequence can be used for one or for multiple tables. It is possible that individual sequence numbers will appear to be skipped, because they were generated and used in a transaction that ultimately rolled back. Additionally, a single user may not realize that other users are drawing from the same sequence.
    Once a sequence is created, you can access its values in SQL statements with the CURRVAL pseudocolumn (which returns the current value of the sequence) or the NEXTVAL pseudocolumn (which increments the sequence and returns the new value).
    See Also:
    "Pseudocolumns" for more information on using the CURRVAL and NEXTVAL

  • There must be some intelligent way to use Oracle 9i XML capabilities here

    Hello all
    I have to perform what is essentially a simplification of an XML interface. There is a company, OurProvider, who do lots of clever stuff with XML, and have tens of interfaces, XSDs etc and many ways to skin a cat. My company is using them as a backbone/provider but is embarking on a consolidation and simplification of the services they provide. We've boiled it down to 2 interfaces and 1 report.
    Taking just one of the interfaces as an example:
    OurClient <-- xml --> Us <-- xml --> OurProviderI have the XSDs for both sides of this.
    When our client sends a file, I will transform it and add a unique transaction reference, then submit it to the provider
    By way of return file, the provider sends us XML of what was done
    Using the unique tx ref we submitted, we'll respond to the client
    Later we might get a report in XML of activity the provider has engaged in on our behalf and some of that our client will want to know, so there is another feed that is "report" style rather than "request response" style
    At the moment, I'm planning to receive the XML from the client, deserialize it in .net, insert it into a relational table (it's not a deeply nested or complex xml) having an oracle sequence provide the unique transaction reference. I'll then run a query to select the contents back into .net dataset constructed so that when I serialize it, it forms XML valid for the provider and then I can send it off.
    On the return, I will deser the provider XML, look up the txn ref, look up the source record data from the client and append more info to it (sometimes jsut a result, but we return to them most of what they submit as confirmation), including THEIR ref
    I'm just wondering if there is a more intelligent way of doing this? Maybe like having a table that has a column triggered to get an autonumber, and to be able to say to oracle "here's an xml document, store it into that table so that each node under the root becomes one row, then give me a document back after having applied this transform, and with the sequence number in the xml"
    Example, the client presents:
    <fruits>
      <fruit>apple</fruit>
      <fruit>pear</fruit>
    </fruits>
    The table could be:
    id, xmltype
    0, <fruit>apple</fruit>
    1, <fruit>pear</fruit>
    The provider wants:
    <menu>
      <desserts>
        <dessert>
          <id>0</id>
          <name>apple</name>
        </dessert>
        <dessert>
          <id>1</id>
          <name>pear</name>
        </dessert>
      </desserts>
    </menu>Any suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

    I would suggets using XSLT. With XSLT you can apply a transformation to the original xmldocument. For your example it would look something like this:
    DECLARE
    newxml sys.xmltype;
    sourcexml sys.xmltype;
    xsltsrc sys.xmltype;
    reslt VARCHAR2(4000);
    BEGIN
    newxml := xmltype('<fruits>
      <fruit>apple</fruit>
      <fruit>pear</fruit>
    </fruits>
    xsltsrc := xmltype.createxml('<?xml version="1.0" ?>
                                 <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
                                 <xsl:template match="/">
                                       <menu>
                                         <xsl:apply-templates/>
                                       </menu>
                                 </xsl:template>
                                 <xsl:template match="fruits">

                                 <xsl:template match="fruit">

    Hi ,
    We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
    For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
    but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
    &ldquo;Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message&rdquo;
    Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
    But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
    Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.
