Available Hands-On Labs
I am curious as to if anyone knows of "hands on" type of resources that are available on the web.
I have attended several Oracle Instructor Lead classes and many of them have "labs" that you complete as part of the training. Has anyone found a source of similar "labs" available for use or purchase?
Is anyone else interested in such information, if so please drop me a line. I will share with you what I find.
BTW - I am posting this on several forums trying to get the broadest response.

There are plenty of examples available via technet.oracle.com
Look for the "Oracle by Example" or "2 day DBA" links.

JavaOne 2009 Java RTS /RTSJ Hands-On Lab now available through SDN
The hands-on labs for this years JavaOne are now available through SDN:
http://developers.sun.com/learning/javaoneonline/j1labs2009.jsp?track=1&yr=2009
The Java RTS lab was 5538.
Unfortunately due to a process glitch the Netbeans Module used in the lab is not yet available for download from the JRTS website. We apologize for this delay and will advise as soon as it is available.
Thanks for your patience.
David HolmesIt's for NB 6.5
It's also intended primarily for Solaris as that's the only place the DTrace scripts can be run.
I don't know what will happen if you try to install it on Linux. It may be able to open TSV jrt3 files and launch TSV - if you wanted to do that. But I don't know.
We're hoping to make this available by around August 10th.

Lightroom 3.2 Release Candidate Available on Adobe Labs
This release includes camera support, bug fixes and new features. Details here:
http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/08/lightroom-3-2-and-camera-raw-6-2-available -on-adobe-labs.html
Regards,
Tom Hogarty
Lightroom, Camera Raw and DNG Product ManagerDespite the fact that the bug list does not announce any of this, I'm very happy to report that LR3.2 RC seems to run quite a bit snappier in many ways. Local edits are still slower with an image that already had a lot of tweaks applied compared to applying them on a fresh image, but overall the performance seems to be much improved.
Its still early days and I'll have to do some real work but so far it looks very promising. Thanks for the release candidate!
The stuttery cursors of the spot removal and red-eye tool are gone as well. Nice touch. I now have an idea why it had been these two cursors that were different. They are the only ones which may need to change mode if the cursors are run over previous applications (i.e. there has to be a collision test with round shapes other than the handles). In my current testing I noticed that said cursors sometimes can become stuck completely and only move on after a slight pause. I think this is a new bug as I haven't seen it before. Hope it is not Lua garbage collecting. Moving the cursors around shouldn't really be a problem even if there are some collision tests to be performed.
A bug I reported about the spot removal tool not working well in corners also appears to have been addressed.
I've only done a very quick test so nothing is definitive but indeed looks promising.
The only issue that might have gone worse is the jerkiness of scrolling through the grid mode with the scroll bar. It wasn't great before but I now seem to experience more frequent and longer pauses in updating the grid. Please, everyone compare the (on my system jerky) way the scrollbar moves the grid to grabbing the grid with the mouse (move the cursor on a line between images and it will turn into a hand). If you move the mouse while having grabbed the grid, the updates are smooth and allow visual tracking of the images while they move. The movement with the scrollbar is so jerky that I cannot visually track the images as they pass by.
Note that scrolling with cursor keys is very fast without pauses but the movement isn't smooth (jumps with the image height) so again visual tracking is hard.
I have an idea why the scrollbar is as decoupled from the grid movement as it is, but I hope that there is room for improvement. I'd be prepared the grab the grid even though that would mean precision manoeuvres with the mouse, but unfortunately, you don't really get far with this method. -

You have a wild hair about Bridge, Noel?
Not at all. I like good tools, and from everything I read Bridge is marvelous. I don't have anything against Bridge, I just don't need it.
As a computer engineer, I use my computer for WAY more than just Photoshop. As such, I do everything I can to have the operating system (via Windows Explorer) integrate things for me.
For example, via right-click or double-click or drag and drop onto icons:
I access my configuration management system from Explorer (Tortoise SubVersion).
I do searches (grepWin) from Explorer.
I compare things (Beyond Compare) from Explorer.
I start Photoshop and other image tools on raw and processed image files I manage with Explorer.
I start my development tools (Visual Studio and a host of utilities) from Explorer (e.g., double click .sln files).
I access my web sites with Explorer (via WebDrive).
I get file paths from Explorer (right click, Send to Clipboard as Name).
I access office management apps from Explorer (e.g., double click .doc or .xls files).
This is an abbreviated list. Explorer can be a VERY powerful integrator, and is at the center of my computing world at a higher level. So now you can start to imagine why I prefer Explorer for image work.

Hands on Lab JD Edwards Enterprise One Business Service Development
Hi,
I completed the "Oracle Open World 2008 - Hands on Lab JD Edwards Enterprise One Business Service Development" PDF at [http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/fmw4apps/jde/pdf/openworld08_businessservicedevelopment.pdf].
I ran the business service at the end of the lab to get the following error:
Internal Server Error (Caught exception while handing request: oracle.e1.bssvfoundation.exception.E1AuthorizationException: User is not authorized to invoke this published business service)
How can this be resolved?
We are on 8.12 and 8.97.1.2 tools
Cheers,
Steve.Hi,
I am having problems at step 5 in your last post.
" 5) Check your Published BSSv is set to published or not in OMW. If not go to security workbench and select the option publish BSSV from Form Exit and Add Custom Published Business service created, make it Executable."
- The business function is not published. I try to in Security workbench (P00950) and publish BSSV row exit not to find my newly created business service object (JP55HOL). I can see all the standard ones but not mine. I open the P00950 application to know what the underlying tables are in the Business Views the grids source the data from, to find that JP55HOL exists in the Object Librarian table F9860 but not in the Business Service Published Methods P98630. For the business function to be published, the record needs to exist in this table. How could this record not be written and how can it be corrected through the Application?
- I don't understand what "or not in OMW" means?
Please understand that I have followed the hands on lab with no other BSS setup on 8.12/8.97
Thanks,

Oracle Open World Hands on lab for Google Map like spatial demo
Hi,
I have participated in the hand on lab for Oracle Spatial + Map Viewer + Ajax + APEX. It was said there that the demo will be soon dowloadable from OTN. Is it know when will this happen?
TIA,
TamasAre you using the latest production 10.1.3.1 MapViewer? which browser are you using? Can you open the page in FireFox and post any error messages from its JavaScript console? without these info it's hard to know what might have gone wrong. The JavaScript console is found under FireFox's menu Tools -> JavaScript console (or Error console in the latest version). You may need to clear it first before opening your application.
For instance, it might be due to some typo when you are adding/defining the search tool bar on top of the map. More specifically, the "go" and "clear" buttons invoke javaScript functions defined in p1.js. if you make a typo when creating these buttons the JavaScript function may not be called at all which means you won't be able to draw the search area on the map. not saying this is the cause, but it is one of many things that could go wrong, and without any meaningful error messages we have no way to help you. -

Adobe InDesign API Navigator is available on Adobe labs
Adobe InDesign CS5 API Navigator is available on Adobe labs web site. You can download for free.
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/indesign_apinavigator/
If you are an InDesign C++ plug-in developer, you should definitely try this new tool.
The InDesign API Navigator is a tool for InDesign C++ Plug-in developers. It works as an add-in for Visual Studio on Windows and as a plug-in for Xcode on Mac OS X. It helps developers get API information within the IDE directly, including Boss definitions, aggregating Bosses for interfaces, and ODFRC type definitions. It also adds syntax coloring for ODFRC files (.fr and .fh). It extends the debugger expression evaluator to understand some InDesign types, which allows the debugger to format some InDesign types nicely in the variables pane (Xcode) or watch window (Visual Studio) while debugging. In Visual Studio, it enables the IDE to browse InDesign C++ APIs.
Try it and give your comments.
ThanksHi,
Have you an API Navigator version to Visual Studio 2010?

For your task, you can check whether you have CDPipelinePackaging.pubxml file in the
Properties/PublishProfiles folder. You can also check your settings for your build definition to see if it fits for the task's requirement.
If the problem still exist, please elaborate more details about your scenario and the reproduce steps for further investigation.

At the OOW last week I attended the Hands-on-lab "Managing yout Database with SQL Developer". I asked if it was possible to get a copy of the course material. I was told, that I could download the pdf at OTN. Where do I find it?
I'll add the links to the SQL Developer homepage when I get back to the office tomorrow. They should be there by the end of the week. You'll be able to access the OBEs from the "Tutorials & Oracle by Example (OBE)" link on [ http://otn.oracle.com/sqldeveloper| http://otn.oracle.com/sqldeveloper]
We said the OBEs would be on OTN, which they will. We do not put the pdfs on OTN, but there is nothing to stop you from printing the OBE running in the browser to pdf. (You can choose whether to included the screen shots or not.)
There are already a few OBEs on our site, from earlier in the year and many of the database OBEs are here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/index.htm
