AVI 1080p

I am unable to view 1080p AVI files on the mac or through FCP 5.1. Once I import them to FCP it does recognize length and frame size but compressor does not recognize it. I've downloaded some codecs/readers but no success so far.

A bit of googling revealed that this:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/software/FourCC_Changer.zip
will open those files. I have no experience with the product.

  • How do I play an AVI movie from my mac to my tv?

OK; I got a flatscreen + Apple TV. Got a movie on my laptop which I want to watch. But I am only 10.6.8 for good reason.
Is it a simple matter of watching it and mirroring it to the flatscreen? It looked simple, but took hours to do, well, I don't know what, but there was a thermometer so it must have been important work. Appeared to be copying it to Apple TV but I'm not sure of that.
I got to the point of seeing a black screen with a timeline across the bottom... but the spooled portion of that timeline never really moved and so the progress indicator never moved.
So, I gave up and put the movie on another laptop with later system. 10.8.5. It has a Mirroring popup in the displays control panel with looked much simpler. But it couldn't play an AVI file... so I downloaded the recommended plug ins... but still couldn't play it.  What else can I add?

iPad Supported Video Formats & Movie Formats

Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

  • Output to DivX file, but as .avi

My client has requested I output a sequence as a DivX (.avi) file.
This is for playback to a large screen monitor from a CF card.
I downloaded the DivX software, so that now within FCP, under export using QT conversion, there is an option DivX
    I downloaded from here:
    http://www.divx.com/en/faq/view/supportFAQen079
I have successfully output a DivX file.  But how do I make this .avi?  An associate said just change the extension.  Is that all?  I tried this, and the video file still plays, using the DivX player and QT player.  But there must be a more sophisticated way to do this conversion to .avi, isn't there?
    About the sequence settings:
    1920 X 1080
    Square pixel aspect ratio
The QT video sittings come up automatically as XD CAM EX 1080P25 35 mbps, but the material was shot on a Canon XF100 camera, which is not XD CAM format.
Can anyone help with a step by step on procedures for this kind of output?
Thanks so much.   Desparate to finish this project for client deadline...everything was fine till I hit the output specs!

    Thanks for that tip!
I did find out that at this website
    http://www.divx.com/en/movies/faq
You can download software that then within FCP creates a new export as QT conversion option, where you can make a new divX file.  I was then told by the company that makes the software:
The DivX Plus Converter will create .mkv files if the DivX Plus HD output profile is selected. If the HD 1080p, HD 720p, Home Theater, or Mobile profiles are selected, it will create a .divx file, which is based on the AVI format. The .divx extension can then be changed to .avi by simply renaming the file, i.e. from mymovie.divx to mymovie.avi. This does not require additional conversion.
If you create a DivX-encoded file in a third-party application, this will usually be an .avi file. If you are on Mac, you can export from QuickTime Player Pro to export to DivX. To learn more about this, consult this FAQ. If you are on Windows, using a program such as VirtualDub allows you to select the DivX codec for export into an AVI file.
Hope this helps anyone out there who is asked to deal with DivX for the first time, as I just was!

There are some limitations on what files types iOS handles natively:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
and what file types the mail app will open:
Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP647
You will need to visit the app store an find a player that will handle the AVI file format, install it, and open the attchement in it from the mail app Open in function. I beleive MoliPlayer will, but I am sure there are others.

  • Can't import avi file

I have some video shot in 1080p but I can't import them into Premiere. They are H.264 .avi files. How do I troubleshoot this? I installed a codec pack for Windows 7 that was supposed to solve the problem.
    Thanks for you help.

As we are seeing more cameras (mostly lower-end consumer models) adopting this non-standard arrangement, I would guess that when this movement reaches some critical mass, Adobe will retool the code to look for H.264 in an AVI wrapper. Until that time, Jeff Bellune's workaround is probably as good as it gets.
Not sure why someone thought this scheme was a good idea, but it does seem to be gaining some momentum. I speculate that those camera mfgrs. really do not anticipate their customers would want to edit the footage, and soome probably even include some form of NLE with the cameras.

  • How to put AVCHD and AVI formats in a timeline using Adobe production suite?

I shot an event with two different types of cameras (AVCHD camera and tape camera with AVI output). I converted the video of avchd into 1080p first, then put it with the tape output together, the video was jittery. How can I put them together in a timeline to have the best video as possible?

The video was taken from capture card by using the adobe DV Format. I copied the settings of capturing bellow to give you more info of how I did it. I'm not sure if this the right way to do it.

  • Confusion about 1080p video on iPad 2

I have an iPad 2. I understand that it's not SUPPOSED to be able to play 1080p video--you need the NEW (2012) iPad for that.
However, I have HD movies and HD TV shows purchased from iTunes in my library, some in 720p and some in 1080p, in both categories. As an experiment, I tried to load an HD (1080p) movie, a HD (1080p) TV show, an HD (720p) movie and an HD (720p) TV show.
The 720p TV show and movie both copied onto the iPad 2 and were viewable with no problems, as expected.
The 1080p TV show did not copy onto the iPad 2, also as expected. However, the 1080p movie DID copy onto the iPad 2 and was viewable.
So, what's up with that? Why can I see a 1080p movie but not a TV show on my iPad 2?

According to the tech specs from Apple :

  • AVI / Quicktime export not working correctly

    Hi there,
I just started using CS4, my first simple task already failed. Imoprt / export a video, no editing no rending. This works fine in CS2, the exported video looks exactly like the imported one. Here i have a strange shift in colors (especially red). It looks a little bit like a "glowing".
    Card: AJA 2K (4.2.1)
    CS4 Premiere (4.2.1)
    I have the following sequence:
    Uncompressed
    1080psf23,976
    Video sources in the timeline
    10 Bit
    Quicktime
    AJA v210
    1080psf

    Export:
    10 Bit
    Quicktime / AVI
    AJA v210
    1080p
    23,976
    I tried:
    YUV
    CGR
    SMPTE
I don't know how to make this work?
    Thanks in advance*

    HA!
That's a great one to play at Parties!!
BTW - that's a great way to do one-offs of sections you want to send out. HOWEVER - a problem there too - if you have a CLIP selected, FCP won't know if you are exporting that cut or the in/out point. Make sure everything is DE-selected. You'll notice a color shift in the timeline indicating the IN/OUT area when you are good to go.
Glad you fixed, now GET BACK TO WORK!

  • Can 1080p videos be watched on mobile devices?

When I export a video it asks me what resolution I want it to be. For the 1080p option iPhone and iPad arent checked. Does this mean when I upload it to youtube my video cant be viewed on mobile devices? Thanks in advance.

Now most devices supports to play 1080p videos, but what matters is the video format, say, iPhone, iPad can play MP4, MOV, and M4V videos, namely, it cannot play other videos in 1080p format. But there is a solution to solve this problem, with a Video Converter for Mac, you can easily convert 1080P AVI, WMV, FLV etc to iPhone, iPad supported format.

  • 0xC00D36C4 MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED for AVI that should work

    (Hello,
I have been using Windows Media Foundation for some time and it works well. I can open and read many video without problems.
But recently, I tried to open a sequence which fails. This is an AVI with the following streams:
    Video : WVC1 1712x1280, 4:2:0 YUV
    Audio : PCM S16 LE 8000Hz, 16bps
I am under Windows 7. Windows Media Player opens it perfectly, as well as VLC.
But when I try to open it myself with such methods as IMFSourceResolver::CreateObjectFromURL or MFCreateSourceReaderFromURL, I get an HRESULT 0xC00D36C4 (MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED)
What could be the problem ?
    [Edit]
Without sucess, I tried the MF_RESOLUTION_CONTENT_DOES_NOT_HAVE_TO_MATCH_EXTENSION_OR_MIME_TYPE flag

Even though the Player Framework claims to support MPEG-DASH via the DashDownloaderPlugin, I do not think the framework actually supports true DASH content (.m4s for mp4 containers or .ts for MPEG-2 containers).
All of the example URIs MS provides for testing "Dash" content contain the .ism extension -- which is actually associated with MS Smooth Streaming content (.ismv), not MPEG-DASH. But because Smooth Stream content is similar to DASH in that .ismv
files are simply fragmented MP4 files, just the same as DASH .m4s files, it is possible to ‘trick’ a server into delivering .ismv files to any Dash client by simply creating DASH init segments and a MPD. I believe this is what Microsoft Azure does in delivering
"Dash" content via their Dynamic Packager if you provide them with a Smooth Stream.
This means the Player Framework can play Smooth Stream content packaged as "Dash", for example:
    http://wams.edgesuite.net/media/SintelTrailer_Smooth_SeekDemo/sintel_trailer-1080p.ism/manifest(format=mpd-time-csf)
but it cannot play true MPEG-DASH content, for example:

  • How to play .AVI files in Quicktime Player 7.6.4

Quicktime Player 7.6.4 will not playback my .AVI movies that I recorded with my Polaroid DVG-1080p digital video camera. I have videos that are 1080p and 720p (H264).
I wish I knew enough about the formatting to troubleshoot, but I thought I would seek advice from the experts.
    Any suggestions?

I don't think that QuickTime natively recognizes H.264 content in an AVI wrapper. You might try installing Perian and see if that helps.
