Avoid Form Submission if there is no change in form data

Hi,
I have a UI for user, where user can do some change and submit. Once user submits the page, server does some complex operations and those are time consuming. Some times user don't do any change and just clicks on the submit button, page gets submitted and server does all those complex operations which is not required as user has not changed any thing.I would like to avoid those server changes when user has done any changes in the input.
I can think of the two solution to this problem.
1) Implement client side validation using hidden fields(having original values) and don't submit the form, if there is no change.
2) Implement the same logic on server side.
Does any one thinks any other solution to this? I am not sure if JSF provides any help in this.

Hi,
You can check if there is any change in your fields using javascript , and then allow user to submit the form or not.
jQuery can make this easy :
jQuery("#FormId :input").change( function(){
         changed = true;
       );And in your h:CommandButton just add a confirm dialog to check the changed variable :
<h:commandButton onclick="return !changed;" value="submit"/>And to perform validation I advice you to use server side validation.
