Hello Friends,
I've Landed Up in an Odd Problem....
Wat I need is to Get a List of Column Names And their types In a database...
Without Using ResultMetaData..
My problem is that....
By following in traditional approach of executing a query
"SELECT * from TABLE_NAME"
getting the data into the resultset
and then getting columnnames & types by the methods rsmd.getColumnName() & rsmd.getColumnType().
But by following this approach there is a shere case of OVER HEAD and Redundancy.
Because of the below reasons....
--->What if the Table contains millions of records
--->Through we can manage it by specifing rowid's in few of the databases It wud Not b recommended to write a platform independent code....
By keeping my requirements in my mind i was Going through JDBC API...
I found an Inteface called DatabaseMetaData which is cud match problem specification and there was a method called getColumns in it....
i tried to googling abt the methods implementation... But was not able to find out a suitable example(Simple) to implement it.
It wud Be glad If someone.. can help me out in this regard.... (By helping me out with a simple example of how to use it...)
