Azure - Glassfish web server

Is Azure going to support Glassfish web server in the future ?

Hi greener2014,
In terms stricly related to support, please be informed that you can install Glassfish on your own on any Azure VM configuration supporting Glassfish just like you would on your own on-premises machine. So the answer is yet.
In terms of using Glassfish more like a SaaS (for example, Azure Websites) rather than use it like an IaaS, there's no current preview of a Glassfish service running as a service and neither is there any support for pure Java apps on Azure WebSites, from
what I know. So the answer would be, not yet. What you could do is post a request to have it supported just like you would directly on uservoice:
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/34192--general-feedback
Should the community desire such a feature, you'll probably get supported by the rest of Java devs and the team will surely look into it.
Good luck!
Alex

  • Help! Azure VM Web Server and Custom Domain Names

    I am going to be pretty basic here, so I apologize at the start ;)....We are attempting to setup a web server for our customer applications in Azure. We need to setup the website with multiple subdomains i.e. ourcompany.com is the main site but we will have
    customer1.outcompany.com, customer2.ourcompany.com, etc....
    I have a domain name registered with GoDaddy. I have a virtual machine up and running. I have a test website up and running and can access it externally ( the net ) so I do have endpoints figured out at minimum.
    Example. the current virtual server is ourcompany01.cloudapp.net . Our registered domain name is ourcompany.com.
    Using our domain registrar,I am able to point ourcompany.com to ourcompany01.cloudapp.net.
    The problem is that I want our customers to see ourcompany.com not ourcompany01.cloudapp.net in the browser.
    How do I make that happen and also allow for the subddomains?
    Any help would be greatly apprciated as I am under the proverbial gun to make this happen!!!!

    Hello ShapopoJoe
    You are right about making changes in your DNS Registrar. That is the last step that is suggested in the article:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cloud-services-custom-domain-name/
    And about createing the sub domains, you will need to use the IP address. Since you would be creating more than one subdomains for your 'www.ourcompany.com', you will need to map them to Reserve IP address.
    You can refer to this link for creating more Reserve IP address:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/05/14/reserved-ip-addresses/
    Thanks.

    I have just a simple WCF service and which is protected by azure ACS .I am getting this error while trying to invoke the service from a client.The WCF is hosted as a simple azure website.
          502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server
          There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.
    This is my web.config for the service and I am guessing there is something wrong with it .It is working just fine on local IIS so I am not sure what exactly is causing the issue.Can someone please have a look and see if they can find something or point me to
    a direction.

    ). And then, I recommend you could refer to this basic code sample(
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4027.wcf-soap-service-with-federated-authentication.aspx ). And I recommend you could download this code sample and try to use it(http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Windows-Azure-AD-Access-0dcde385/sourcecode?fileId=71587&pathId=477793108
    Please try it.
    hope this helps.

    So can you, please, help me understand what is happening and what I need to do to correctly start glassfish's domain with deployed application in it via systemd?

    I suggest you create a dedicated user for your calibre service and not run it as root (User=, Group=). I'm not so sure running that code mess as root.
    Edit: Or if you want the server to run only when your user is logged in, then create it in the systemd user session.

  • Applet hangs web server when upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7

    I've got a client-side printing application which works fine on 1.6 and fails on 1.7 where it essentially hang the server on the connect option to the server and loading the jar file. Specifics:
    PC Client running windows 7 x64
    Browser versions IE9, IE10, Firefox 17.0.1 (PC-client) all fail
    Client PC has latest Java 1.7.0 10-b 18 installed
    Web server is Apache2.4.3 x64 running on Windows 2008 Server R2 through the network
    Jar file is signed and the certificate is loaded
    Apache server is sitting on another server through a network connection. Backrev java to 1.6 and it passes. I've specified the -Djava.net.prefIPv4Stack=true option in the applet call but it doesn't fix the issue.
    The java console loads but then hangs on the connecting portion:
    Java Plug-in 10.10.2.18
    Using JRE version 1.7.0_10-b18 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

    What is most irritating is that a local instance for debugging (i.e. apache2.4.3 x64) running locally and running the application on the same machine) passes perfectly so it appears that it involves a network connection rather than a localhost operation.
    I noticed on a good connection the server returns with ResponseCode 304. I do not see that line in the log on the failing applet load. Apache logs set at debug show no errors even though the operation hangs the server.
    Anyone got any ideas on how to debug and resolve this?
    -Thanks
    -G

    More information:
    Installed jre.1.6.37 (x32 version) along with 1.7.10 (x32 version) and the applet loads. Installed 1.7.10 (x32 version) only on the windows 7 x64 client fails. I've done both the x-java-applet method and the JNLP method and both hang. The JNLP j2se version is set to "1.6+" so in theory 1.7 should jre should work fine without a 1.6.37 loaded.
    I've got wireshark dumps that I'm analyzing and noticed that there two OCSP responses (successful) but nothing after that, specifically where it hangs. Any ideas on how to debug this further?

    Make an External List from a SQL Azure table with Business Connectivity Services and Secure Store, but I keep receiving the following message when I try to access an external list:
    "Unable to render the data. If the problem persists, contact your web server administrator"
    Note: I'm using SharePoint 2013 ONLINE, and (as far as I know) I have no access to the logs & powershell.
    Any body has had the same issue before?
    Regards.
    Note: I have tried changing my ECT's connection property (through designer 2013) to BDC Identity, but I keep receiving the following error message:
    The metadata object that has Name "xxxx" has a Property with name "AuthenticationMode" and value "RevertToSelf". This value indicates that the runtime should revert to the identity of the application pool, but reverting to the
    application pool is not permitted for partitioned service applications.

    Try changing the External Content’s connection
    properties’ Authentication Mode to BDC identity. You will most like get an error (which I have shown below)
    Below is an error you will received. Read through
    the error carefully.
    Launch the SharePoint 2013 Management Shell
    and run the below commands
    $bcsServiceApp = Get-SPServiceApplication
    | where {$_ -match "Business Data Connectivity Service"}
    $bcsServiceApp.RevertToSelfAllowed
    = $true;
    $bcsServiceApp.Update();
    This Solved the problem for me. you can try

  • Help me choose a Java Web Server?

    I'm using Ubuntu 9.x and looking for a Java Web Server. I'm really lost as there are far too many out there and there seems none is the de-facto standard used by large corporations.
    My criteria are:
    - FREE for commercial use (requirement)
    - ease of use for installation and configuration (I'm a beginner)
    - good support from the commercial book industry is a huge plus
    - well integrated with eclipse is a huge plus
    - plenty of documentation and free community support
    - one of the major releases such as Apache Geronimo, GlassFish, JBoss, WebSphere and etc.
    I'm not concerned about major performance issues, but less hardware resource demand is better. I'm on a VPS with 256-512MB RAM.
    Any suggestions? What is the most popular one?
    I'm really lost so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Frankly, I'm not clear on differences between application and web server although I read this article. It sounds more like I will need an application server for my intended website with will have similar functionality as Facebook.
    Things I am likely to need are DB connection pooling and clustering since I'm hosting in the cloud.
    However, I have limited experience with a Tomcat and Java EE so I frankly don't know what I need although I have built a web site hosted on Tomcat. I figured with an Application Server I have the option of scaling to my needs without having to migrate. Then again, am I planning too far ahead and that migration isn't really that difficult?
    With that said, are there any case studies of large web sites using Tomcat strictly successfully?

  • Sun Java Web Server 7 and JNDI Jell

    Hi all,
    I am building a normal Java EE web app (WAR file), and I was originally developing on GlassFish v2.1 and everything was beautiful. Now, I found out our shared server is Sun Java Web Server 7, but the sys admin said everything should run fine as long as I wasn't using JSB's.
    I downloaded and installed SJWS7 on my local machine so I could test my application against it, and JPA and SJWS7 are not getting along.
    I am trying to bind my persistence.xml to the data source I created on SJWS7.
    SJWS7 JDBC Resource: jdbc/pact
    persistence.xml:
        <persistence-unit name="pact" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL">
            <description>PA/Circuit Tracking Development</description>
            <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider>
            <non-jta-data-source>java:comp/env/jdbc/pact</non-jta-data-source>
            <properties>
            ....There is nothing in sun-web.xml or web.xml that references this resource (although I tried that too, and no go).
    The traceback I get is:

  • SP online 365 - Unable to render the data. If the problem persists, contact your web server administrator.

    Help needed urgently, i'm pulling my hair out on this one!
    Using SharePoint online (365) I am trying to create an external list to a SQL table. I go through the steps in SP designer and finally create the external list but when I go to the list I get the error:
    Unable to render the data. If the problem persists, contact your web server administrator.
    I have read all of the posts on here to fix this and they are mainly for on premise; the powershell doesn't work with spOnline and I have added permissions into the BCS service application but nothing works. I read that it is not possible to connect
    sharepoint online to an on-premise SQL database so I moved the SQL database to an azure SQL service server but I still get the same error.
    I have a "test" on premise sharepoint which I have tried this on and it works fine so it must be an issue with SPonline! does anyone know how to get BCS connections to external data working in sharepoint online as external lists?

    Hi,
    In SharePoint online, we support:
    Business Data Connectivity (BDC)
    Data Source types, including Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
    SQL Server Azure connectors
    I'd suggest you refer to the article below:
    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Make-an-External-List-from-a-SQL-Azure-table-with-Business-Connectivity-Services-and-Secure-Store-466f3809-fde7-41f2-87f7-77d9fdadfc95?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
    It describes about how to use SharePoint technologies to access data from a SQL Azure database without having to write code, including create an External List by using Business Connectivity Services (BCS) and Secure Store. BCS connects SharePoint solutions
    to external data, and Secure Store enables user authentication for the data. By using an External List, you can display the contents of a table from SQL Azure in SharePoint Online. Users can read, edit, and update the data, all in SharePoint Online.

  • Oracle Java Web Server 6.1 / 7.0 Reverse Proxy

    Hello everyone,
    I have just installed both Sun Java Web Server versions 6.1 and 7.0 on Windows x86, trying to configure the Reverse Proxy Plugin, but none of the installations came with the libpassthrough.dll file mentioned in several documentations.
    I have searched both Google and Oracle websites but links on Google point to the former sun.com website and Oracle gives nothing :(
    update: I've installed Oracle iPlanet Web Server 7.0.15 and got only digest, fastcgi, htaccess and loadbal in the plugins folder, no libpassthrough :( Help!
    Does anybody know where can i get the Reverse Proxy Plugin for Windows ?
    Thank you very much,
    Daniel.
    Edited by: user2579623 on 07/08/2012 13:19

    In 6.1, the libpassthrough library comes in a separate download, usually with the application server, ie glassfish. In 7.x it is build in so there is no separate library to add, the functionality is just there and can even be configured from the web admin interface. Just use web server 7 and have a look at the admin console.

  • How to set Maxmimum header length in Web Server. It creates a problem

    I have setup Sun webserver ahead of Glassfish Application server.
    Now when i send a request having length 17000 as POST request , my application does nt receive the whole request data.
    If i make request direct to Application server , app server servs the request properly. but when i send the request to websever which diverts the request to app server only , it creates some manipulation with the data sent in the POSt request.
    Can any one please guide me what to do.?
    Thanks in advance/

    I would first try to take GF's loadbalancer plugin out of the configuration and instead use Web Server 7.0's integrated reverse-proxy functionality to pass the requests to your backend AppServer. This will tell you if the problem is in the lbplugin or in some other component in WS 7.0.
    The following briefly describes what you might have to do in order to use the integrated reverse-proxy functionality in WS7 instead of GF's lbplugin.
    Delete/comment out the following lines in your magnus.conf file:
    Init fn="load-modules" shlib="D:/Sun/WebServer7/plugins/lbplugin/bin/passthrough.dll" funcs="init-passthrough,service-passthrough,name-trans-passthrough" Thread="no"
    Init fn="init-passthrough"GF's lbplugin installer has incorrectly added a duplicate entry for j2eeplugin in your magnus.conf. Delete this line too:
    Init fn="load-modules" shlib="D:/Sun/WebServer7/lib/j2eeplugin.dll" shlib_flags="(global|now)"Replace the following line in obj.conf
    NameTrans fn="name-trans-passthrough" name="lbplugin" config-file="D:/Sun/WebServer7/https-01HW151407.India.TCS.com/config/loadbalancer.xml"with
    NameTrans fn="map" from="/" name="reverse-proxy-/" to="http:/"Add the following Objects to the bottom of your obj.conf file:
    <Object name="reverse-proxy-/">
    Route fn="set-origin-server" server="http://appserver.host.com:8080"
    </Object>
    <Object ppath="http:*">
    Service fn="proxy-retrieve" method="*"
    </Object>Replace appserver.host.com and 8080 with the appropriate hostname and port number of your GF installation.
    More info on setting up WS7's reverse proxy can be found here:

  • Which web server recommended for web development?

    am running on windows xp, what are your recommendations regarding the web server?
    am looking to develop JSP, servlets and web services.

    JBoss, GlassFish and Tomcat are three pretty popular ones. I'd recommend researching them, seeing which one fits your needs and making a selection. No one here knows your full set of requirements or what you intend on doing and - therefore - no one here is qualified to tell you which product to use. Only you know what you need so only you can make the decision.
