Azure Visual Studio 2013 Integrated Sign Connectivity Issues

I am having periodic VS2013 Ultimate and Azure tools 2.3 connectivity issues. I'd say it's all related to session timing out but it causes VS to crash sometimes and other times when using some Azure feature, right clicking 'Web Role' I get 'Object....null
reference' messages.
I can ask studio to connect to Azure, via right clicking Azure node of Azure branch in server explorer and it always tells me I'm currently signed in as the correct\current user but this seems to prevent the issue from occurring if I do this first thing
everyday.
How can I properly resolve the Visual Studio crashes and such? I'd say I've had Visual Studio 2013 crash more in the last 6 months than all prior VS crashes across my DEV lifetime....and I started developing long before Visual Studio was born :>)

Hi,
It's hard to reproduce this issue, please try to update your vs, then see whether this issue exist or not. You could also use another computer to do the same operation, if you encounter the same issue, please contact with azure support to
get further help:  http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/support/contact/

  • XSLT Debugger is disabled in Visual Studio 2013 Integrated Shell

According to this link, the Visual Studio 2013 Integrated Shell contains an XSLT Debugger:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb129445.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
I installed this version clean on a machine that has no prior Visual Studio installs.
When I launch this version of Visual Studio, and open an xsl file for debugging, the 'Start XSLT Debugging' option is grayed out / disabled.
How do I enable XSLT Debugging?

  • Visual Studio 2013 & 2015 sign in

I am currently using Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate and I have been trying Visual Studio 2015 Ultimate. Due to corporate policies, our organization has decided to block visualstudio.com from the firewall stating the site allows you to upload code. Obviously
not all of visualstudio.com serves this purpose, but it means that I can't properly leverage the integrated sign in in Visual Studio 2013 and 2015. I got around the requirement in 2013 by entering a license key, but I see no such option in 2015. Ideally however
I'd be able to use the sign in services, but this would require our company to know what areas of visualstudio.com they can block to stop just code upload to visual studio online. Does Microsoft have a document detailing how visualstudio online code upload
can be blocked while still maintaining the Visual Studio account and profile features?

    Hi,
According to the discussions, seems what you want to achieve is blocking the all account visualstudio.com websitr, first, you can use content advisor if you're using IE, you can find more information in the link below:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2008/12/18/content-advisor-in-the-corporate-environment.aspx
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/using-content-advisor-block-inappropriate-content#1TC=windows-7
You can also edit the hostfile (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)to block the website,  for convenience, I'd like to share the following link with you:

  • Visual Studio 2013 Community "Re install" Issues after HDD failure

    Hello,
I had a recent failure in my HDD where all my apps were installed (not the OS) and had to replace and re install a lot of apps. But VS 2013 has been given me a hard time. when I try to re install it it only gives me the option to Repair Uninstall or Modify.
I have tried all three with no avail. The errors I am getting are : Fatal Error during installation.
I have also tried to clean up reg keys and temp files. I have also tried previous answers such as re downloading the ISO and installing as admin. I have cleared my Temp folder as well.
From what I can deduce it looks like it's missing reg keys and doesn't know what to do... Here are some logs : Logs1 and Logs2

By the way, please try this tool

  • Visual Studio 2013 and SSDT-BI Preview Command Window

    Hi,
Is it normal that VS is putting up a command window when previewing SSRS reports from Visual Studio 2013. It pops  up when on preview and I have to minimize it. Can some settings make this window invisible (a more integrated approach)?
    Regards
    SWEDEV

    Hi SWEDEV,
Based on my research, a command window pops up when we preview an SSRS report in Visual Studio 2013 is a confirmed issue.
The issue is fixed, but the updated version within the coming couple of weeks. For more details about this issue, please refer to the following Connect Feedback 849709 and 884544:

  • Cannot Connect to Azure SQL Database in Visual Studio 2013

    Beyond Frustrated here.
I am trying to connect to an Azure SQL database - it has been created, has tables etc. I am trying to create a new Data Connection from within Visual Studio 2013, latest release for VS and Azure. I continue to receive the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
I have ensured that TCP is allowed and above Named Pipes in the Configuration Manager. The associated IP address is allowed on Azure Firewall. Certificate has been added to VS etc. But still no connection. I can see the database in the Azure section in Server
Explorer, but cannot add a Data Connection. What is equally as frustrating is I have a MacBook Pro running Win 7 sitting right next to my office computer and it can access Azure fine, not problems.
If anyone has any other ideas on how I might be able to solve this I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance.
    Jeff

    Hi,
The Error message "   A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is
configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53) "
The issue comes up mainly because the application is not able to connect to the server.
To resolve this issue, try the following steps (in that order):
Make sure that TCP IP is enabled as a client protocol on the application server. For more information on how to do this, see
Configure client protocols. On application servers where you do not have SQL Server tools installed, you can check this by running cliconfg.exe (SQL Server Client Network Utility).
     2.  Check the application’s connection string to make sure that it is correctly configured. For example, make sure that the connection string specifies the correct port (1433) and the fully qualified server name.
Note You can follow these steps to obtain the connection string from the Azure Management Portal:
                          Log on to the
    Azure Management Portal.
In the left navigation pane, click
    SQL Databases.
Select your Azure SQL Database server.
                          Click
    Dashboard.
On the right side, go to the
quick glance section, and then click Show connection strings.
Test the connectivity between the application server and the Azure SQL database by using a UDL file, ping, and telnet. For more information about how to do this, see
Azure SQL Database connectivity troubleshooting guide and
    Troubleshooting SQL Server connectivity issues.
Note As a troubleshooting step, you can also try to test the connectivity on a different client computer.
Try increasing the connection timeout. Microsoft recommends using a connection timeout of at least 30 seconds.
As a best practice ensure retry logic is in place. For more information about the retry logic, see
Azure SQL Database best practices to prevent request denials or connection termination.
If these  steps do not resolve your problem, follow the below steps to collect more data and contact support:
If your application is a cloud service, enable the logging. This step returns a UTC time stamp of the failure. Additionally, SQL Azure returns the tracing ID.
Microsoft Customer Support Services can use this information.
For more information about how to enable the logging, see
how to enable diagnostic logging for Azure Web sites and Developing SQL Database Applications section in
    Azure SQL Database Development Considerations.
      Check out
the list of best practices for Connecting to Windows Azure SQL Database.

  • SharePoint Connection not available with Visual Studio 2013

I've installed Visual Studio 2013 in my SharePoint 2010 environment. When I try to add the existing SharePoint Connections I've used in Visual Studio 2010 there is always the same error: Remote SharePoint site connections are not supported. The SharePoint
site is located at the same server, I'm able to access the Central Administration with Visual Studio 2013, but I can't access my development SharePoint Web Application.
I'm sure I do have access to the configuration database, in Visual Studio 2010 I'm able to delete and add SharePoint Connections without any problems. The URL of the development SharePoint connection (like sp1.sharepoint.contoso.com) is not named like
the URL of the Central Administration (like servername:5000). The port of my development SharePoint is 80, but I can't access with servername:80 too. My account is in the group of the local administrators, Visual Studio is started as Administrator
and my account is a SharePoint farm administrator and additionally a site collection administrator of all site collections in my SharePoint web application.
Any idea what's wrong with this SharePoint connections?
    Thanks in advance. Georg

Can you try the following workaround and see if it helps? First try adding host entry for your server name and if that works change it to sp1.sharepoint.contoso.com.
    SharePoint
2013 Visual Studio Project Error – “Cannot connect to the targeted site”
I understand your situation is different than the one mentioned in the blog but given you seem to have all the permission so may be you try and see if the error is because of above issue. Actually if above does not work (assuming your are on your development
environment), try adding your account to DB Owner on your site collection database as mentioned here.

  • How to configure a proxy server for Windows Azure Tools in Visual Studio 2013

    Hi Visual Studio/Azure Tools team
I would like to use the Windows Azure tools in Visual Studio 2013 to manage my Azure Web sites (Server Explorer -> Windows Azure -> Web Sites) from within my corporate network which is secured using a proxy server. Unfortunately, I am not able to use
the Windows Azure tools since the required HTTPS connection to windows azure is not going through the default configured proxy. Instead, Visual Studio tries directly to connect to port 443 which is blocked by our corporate firewall (and yes: there is no way
around using our proxy server). Other visual studio features like NuGet, updates, etc. work fine and use the configured proxy server.
So my question: How can I configure visual studio respective its Azure tools to use a proxy server instead of a direct connection? I already tried configuring the proxy server within the file devenv.exe.config but this doesn't show any effect for Windows Azure
    tools.
    Regards
    tschaena

As we have very similar problems I consider the found solution a work arround an existing problem which will not work if corporate FW policy does not allow such changes.
In my mind, any tools in charge of dealing with some sort of FW protocols should deliver the following information, should make it absolute clear how to setup that the request packages are setup rigth at the first time.
    a) proxy server
    b) proxy port
    c) proxy user
    d) proxy users-password
    e) proxy.auth.Preference="BASIC"
And for moste tools (including Visual Studio and AZUR Tools) it is absolut unclear
    a) how to setup that on a per tools basis
    b) OR who inherits this information from whom    i.e. use the same as IE does, what if we use FireFox or any other browsers?
I understand that developers requested to cure such problem areas will often have difficulty to gain all required elemenst used to realy test the solution.
But I can tell you: I loos more time figthing down the FW setups for my clients. WHat I do at home in a sniff, takes ages to be realised by all the various clients on the market where each has to deliver the same sort of information but actually does not,
or has it just somewhere, but not in the vicinity of the demanding user.
Good examples i.e. NetBeans IDE where the Option Menu shows very clearly what information is required to pass through a FW/Proxy; but even there, the hint to start with a BASIC authentication schema is not part of this OPTION menu and must be added a JAVA
environment value. But at least, it works.

  • Problems with connecting my Mysql db to visual studio 2013

    Hey all,
I tried connecting my MYSQL db to my visual studio 2013
after installing all db connectors from MYSQL and tried following multiple guides its still not working.
I first had VS Express but it seems the express versions don't support that so then i went to get a VS Professional 2013 (trial i think) and this didn't work either.
Does anyone know any solution other than installing connectors (reinstalled them like 2 times already) or getting another VS ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Weffke,
The forum supports VS setup and installation. And I think your issue isn't related to the forum.
    >>after installing all db connectors from MYSQL and tried following multiple guides its still not working.
I think your issue is more about MYSQL. So I suggest you post your issue to the related forum below.

  • Database connection error in Visual Studio 2013

I am using Visual Studio 2013 and have installed MS SQL Server 2014. I am trying to generate my database from a model (edmx) but I get the following error: Cannot

In the edmx.sql file, is written:
-- Entity Designer DDL Script for SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012 and Azure
I can see that 2014 version is missing from this generated file, and seems that the program tries to connect to the 2012 version .. how can I avoid this and manage visual studio tu use the 2014 version of MS SQL Server? Thanks in advance
I already updated the SQL Server Data Tools to the newest version.

  • How do I make Visual Studio 2013 use my dedicated graphics card instead of integrated graphics on my laptop?

I am using Alienware 13 as a portable workstation. I do game development on Unreal Engine 4 using Visual Studio 2013. The issue I am having is that when I want to debug codes in Visual Studio 2013, it launches Unreal Engine 4 through the debugger and uses
the integrated graphics card rather than my dedicated graphics card, which is an nVida Geforce 860M.
When I wanted to change the settings in the NVidia Control Panel, I see this:
The drop-down menu is grayed out, so I cannot select to change the graphics card to my dedicated card.
What should I do? How do I make it so that Visual Studio uses my dedicated card? Thanks in advance.

    Hi tom_mai78101,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
It seems that it is not the correct forum for this issue, since this forum is to discuss Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.
As you said that you want to change the setting so that Visual Studio uses your dedicated card in NVidia Control Panel, since this NVidia Control Panel is third-party tool, we are not support it. So please post this issue this issue directly
to this NVidia Control Panel Official website:

  • Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows - InitializeComponent() does not contain a definition issue

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows (Windows Store App version), with Update 1.
I create a blank app. I right-click on InitializeComponent() in the MainPage.xaml.cs and select Go To Definition. It brings me to the .g.i.cs file where this method resides.
I go into the designer for MainPage.xaml and create a grid of 2 rows and 2 columns (all at 1*). I add one button, doesn't matter where. I double click on that button to add a click method to MainPage.xaml.cs. Without entering anything into the button click
method, I scroll up and InitializeComponent() has an error and tells me there is not definition, even though I was looking at the definition a minute ago. I found I could unload the project and reload it and InitializeComponent() would have the definition
in the .g.i.cs file but as soon as I add another button click or anything else I run into the same error. It seems as if the .g.i.cs file is not automatically regenerating, or it is being deleted all together when the button click method is added to the xaml.cs
    file.
Everything I have done up to this point is very vanilla. I installed VS '13 Express for Windows, didn't change any VS setting, created a project and ran into this issue. I installed Update 1 thinking there might be a fix from the update--no luck. The xaml
file Build Action is Page and the Xaml.cs file is Compile.
I have tried deleting the MainPage.xaml file, after the creation of a project, and adding a new MainPage file with the added templates VS wants to include, and I still run into the same issue.
I have searched for answers the past few days but haven't found anything that addresses my issue (most of what I found addresses VS '10 but their InitializeComponent() issues aren't the same as mine). Any help the MSDN community can provide would be
a great help. If worst comes to worst, I will re-install VS and see if that corrects it--this would be a last-ditch effort though.
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide

Intellisense has a bug in VS2013 where it doesn't recognize InitializeComponent when you start working on the XAML.  My feeling is that if you try to compile this app, it will run fine (as long as there are no actual errors).

  • Sharepoint 2010 Remote Development using Visual Studio 2013 Connection Errors

I have a customer who is using a custom skinned site developed in Sharepoint 2010.
I am trying to debug a webpart that is not loading on a page.
    My Environment:
Local Laptop running Win 7 64 Enterprise, Visual Studio 2013, and Sharepoint Designer 2010.
I connect to the customers network via VPN and use RDP to access the server. I have Admin rights to the server.
Everything that I have read indicates that Web Part dev has to be done in VS. When I try to connect using server explorer, VS kicks back a 'Server Can not be found' error.
I have tried using the computer name, the app url listed in SP Central Admin, the IP address of the box, and the actual URL of the site. However, VS can not connect to the server.
I have done some homework on connecting VS to a remote machine:

The last connection article is confusing because one of the SO answers indicates that you do not need to have SP2010 installed.
I have been doing lots of reading on SP structure, and it seems to jump all over the place. (Or at least my research does). I have been reading this Ebook:
SharePoint 2010 Development with Visual Studio 2010
    http://books.google.com/books/about/SharePoint_2010_Development_with_Visual.html?id=TVKICs4vHTcC
    My questions are:
Why cant I connect to the Server if I connected through VPN which would inherently make the server a local network computer?
Do I need to have VS installed on the actual server? I read that I can install Sharepoint Foundation locally and this will give me access to the server in VS.
Do I need to have the full version of VS installed in order to use Remote Tools?
    For the Web Parts:
Why cant I see the web parts in Sharepoint Designer? I take it they are exclusively designed in VS, which brings me back to the questions above.
In Sharepoint Designer, I can see a custom view that was created from a custom list. I want to add that list to the page where the web part isnt working. When I open up the Edit Interface, and try to find that list, it does not display in the 'Lists and Libraries'
    menu

    Hello,
As per your description, remote deployment is not possible for server side code in sharepoint so if you are using server object model then you won't be able to debug or deploy your solution from visual studio.
VS is not required to installed on UAT/prod server but you need sharepoint along with visual studio in same development machine to develop any custom webpart.
Once you deploy your custom webpart on site then you will be able to see that webpart in webpart gallery and that gallery is also available in designer so it means you can also add your custom webpart from designer to any page.
Correct me if i misunderstood you

  • Disable CRL checking for Visual Studio 2013 Installation on Domain Server with No Internet Connection

    Hello,
I am having trouble installing certain packages that are digitally signed in the Visual Studio 2013 installation process. There's an attempt to determine whether or not a certificate has been revoked or not, and crl.microsoft.com is not available on the
server in question and therefore the certificate fails this test. The packages as a result fail to install and each has the following reason "A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority." So the VS 2013 installation completes
yet SSDT and a few other packages are not installed.
There must be a way to install VS 2013 on a server without access to the Internet. The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and is joined to a domain. Does anyone know how?
    Thank you.

Can you check the signature and confirm that the chain is complete? My guess is that the problem is not in revocation checking, but in chain building.

I think you are correct. Thanks. There were revocation errors continuously (events 42, 41, 11, 10, and 40) but when I went and looked at the packages that failed in the ISO and right-clicked on them in Windows Explorer, then navigated to the Digital Signature
tab and viewed the certificate I noticed that the root cert Microsoft Root Certificate Authority 2011 was not installed on the server. I found a Microsoft KB download that had the 2010 and 2011 MS Root certs in it (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6149)
and installed it. This installed WAY too many root certs of different CAs. Though I'm in the process of reinstalling VS 2013 and I think it will work now.
Is there a way to do this in a more deliberate fashion? How would I go about assessing each packages' certificate that failed and determining the chain of certs I need to build, then downloading these certs, and then testing them? The least
    privilege, or fewest certificates way...
    Thank you.
