Write back facility through analyzer

I have a user requirement here.
Requirement: User wants to do various drill downs on the data base on various combination and wanted to do a write back on the database.
I suggested user Excel add in for doing a lock and send. But user is requesting a web based interface for doing a write back facility.
It is possible to do a write back using Hyperion analyzer. Or can you pls suggest me other available options.

Few more questions.
1. Is this option avilabel in all version of essbase (write back through analyzer to essbase cube) . its a fact that this is possible only in block storage option
2. is it possible N user doing write back from various locations on the same data base on the same time . Excel add in do not allow as the db is lokced by another user. will analyzer allow this facility. ( here user A might be updating data value for member a->->b->C and user B updating data value for A->e->C) combinations.
3. what does the calculate option does here. wil lit doa default call all ?

Write back facility

We have a writeback facility for a column. We have created different users those have the write back privileges. whoever made the changes in the particular column that username should be captured.

Write Back facility in BI Beans ?

Hi All,
I would like to know If we change data in a Session when and how can we write it back to Cube.?

based on this solution it should be possible to change the interface to using an non-Excel front end if you need to. The principles for the configuration and the processing of the modified data will be the same.

You're so right with that observation and that leads me to something I want to share in here.
A great part in the secret of success behind iPhone is that, exactly; the final product has been exhaustively tested and the user experience is 90% pre-known by Apple before the product launch to market. The other 10% comes with their actual use with different operators around the world and the incredibly large amount of applications at disposal for them and is released ASAP as bug fixes / patches.
Please note that I'm not saying it's the best device because I don't think so. I'm a Nokia fan and love my N8 btw, but also have to admit that every product Nokia releases is a "Work In Progress" and we, the customers, help a lot in finishing up our devices and that usually happens when our devices are too old to fulfill their potential, so they're sort of "Sean Connery" (the older the better).
This leads me to a second great part of iPhone's success:
The customer experiences having the best in the market (I'm not saying it is the best but the customer feels that way), at least for a year. In Nokia's case they themselves mine under their own products and you can't enjoy your device for even a month but they're announcing some other better device launch and even those better devices are not the best of the market so it's a long frustrating chain.

DVD ROM query for embedding Powerpoint

Hi, I am receiving conflicting advice on a job I have to output on Tuesday for a client. I have a 20 min NTSC video thats complete.
The client has stated that they now need to have 2 powerpoint presentations, some pdfs and some jpgs added to the DVD.
My local applestore advised me that I will have to use the DVDROM function in SP and that is the only way that the viewers can use the powerpoint presentation as intended (i.e not just as a slide show, but with foward and back facility etc). They say that the video and the other windows files will show up as a folder on the disk and the Video file will play in all DVD players, but the windows files won't. They also say that I cannot put the items on the DVD menu for access that way?
My DVD replication house, have said that the video file, if put on DVDROM will play in Pc's and Macs but will NOT play in DVD players as they don't recognise the files as playable?
They added that there is a player you can use that will embed a windows powerpoint file and that the PP presention opens up in a viewer that plays and allows full functionality of the presention buttons.
Can anyone tell me the best way to go about this in the short timescales I have.
I don't mind telling the client that the disk will only be viewable in PCs and not DVD players if I have to, but am still wondering, what happens then if someone puts the disk in a mac? how will the Powerpoint presentaion work, or wont it. The disk run is 750 so I can't risk having the glass master etc and disks produced, only to find major playing difficulties.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has done this kind of thing.

Any items in the DVD ROM files should be thought of generally as being data files that can be accessed as need by the appropriate program. In other words if there is a Photoshop File (not JPEG, TIF but actual PSD file) and the user does not have Photoshop or other application on the Computer which opens PSD files, then the user cannot use the PSD file. If it is a PowrerPoint project and the user does not have PowerPoint and you have not made a Projector (think that is the term, the self contained playback thing even if a user does not have PowerPoint) then they will not be able to use the file. Anything in the PowerPoint file is subject to how your create it in PowerPoint.

Some players can play back various formats, MPs, AVIs and the rest, but that is not playing back a DVD. The DVD is a different thing. As to the Windows files, not sure what you are saying there, but if they are files that only a Windows machine (as oppossed to a Mac) can read then a Windows machine would be needed.
You can use things like @ccess (you can search for the threads on that one), but in a nutshell, not very reliable and it is often easier to just have a menu telling people to look at the folder on the DVD for extra items. Nothing in the DVD-ROM folder will be playable on a DVD Player, you will need a computer.

RIght. You need to seperate two concepts. One is a DVD you rent from Blockbuster, which is the thing that you pop into a player hooked up to your TV and start playing and the second is extra material on the DVD (DVD-ROM content) which require a computer.

What you are trying to do is unclear, I think in part because of the issues between a DVD and then including extra content.

See above regarding the PowerPoint Projector concept. It should run on a Mac subject to the same issues described above (software maybe needed to open files, etc.) Alos cheeck with your replicator, there is usually a break on mastering charges at certain levels - often 1,000 units. May be about the same price.

Customize period dimension in Planning

The source ERP system has 2 more periods apart from the 12 months ADJ1 and ADJ2. We also should have a drill back facility for this

If you are creating a new application you could create it with 14 custom time periods, then once created add the summary time period.

Q2,Jul,Aug,Sep
Q3,Oct,Nov,Dec
Q4,Jan,Feb,Mar
Adj,Adj1,Adj2
which should all roll up to Year Total
If you have already created the application then you could create a custom hieararchy as a child of the period

Conditionally Allow Feedback

We are using the built-in APEX Feed back facility. We love this feature but, we only want to use it in Development. Is there anyway, aside from using JavaScript to hide/remove the link, that we can have this conditionally according to the environment in which the application is being executed?
I know we can go turn it off in the Application Properties but, we have a ton of environments and, having to manually flip this switch each time we push out a new version of the application is getting tiresome. I was hoping for something more programmatically/data driven. For example, is there a way to flip this built-in switch with PL/SQL?

You may have your answer.. How about making the link display conditionally depending upon the location you are in? Can you add a global application item with a value you set to show if you are in development or another environment?

Architectural Issues with AIA Asynchronous MEP

Hi,
We are implementing an AIA service which should follow an Asynchronous (request/delayed-response) MEP. I need some advice from people who have implemented this pattern.
The rough requirements are that we have two ABCS Requesters for two different systems, which read from files and call the EBS (eventually there may be an EBF involved as well but don't want to confuse the question). The response for the operation will take up to 10 minutes but we need to deal with the response when it comes back at the requester level.
It looks something like this

My question is, why does AIA only create a single port service in ABCS Provider and it forces me to call back via a seperate WSDL when I select the request/delayed-response option in he service constructor.
This means that I must have two EBS services (one EBS Request and one EBS Response) - unless I am missing something (which is entirely possible) and dynamically route the response to the appropriate endpoint and then correlate it.
I understand this is possible, but it seems an overkill to me when I could have two ports on the Provider ABCS wsdl (which the service constructor does not create), which I could then callback on and the EBS will then create a callback to the calling client. This would make the whole process easier to manage IMO.
I could change the generated WSDL and add a callback port, but as the service constructor generates the ABCS like this, I do not want to just alter this without understanding maybe why I shouldn't.
Do people recommend the Fire and Forget Async MEP as seems to be documented in AIA documentation for a scenario like this and if so why?
Have people implemented the two port single WSDL solution (as is created by SOA Suite if you build a service as Async from scratch) as an AIA provider?
If anybody has a sample Async project in AIA showing this sort of scenario, I would love to see it.

Provider ABCS does not need to have 2 port types for this scenario. You would have 2 port types in Provider ABCS only if it interacts with provider application in an asynchronous manner. In that situation, provider application will be sending the callback response by invoking the service operation defined in the callback response port type within provider ABCS.
Your question is more about why we need to have 2 EBS - one for processing request and another for processing callback response. For this situation, you do not have to add additional port type in provider ABCS WSDL.
You can certainly leverage the mediator’s call back facility to eliminate the Response EBS that is normally recommended for processing the callback. 11g mediator does have the support and you can leverage that.
We did look at this feature during the 11g adoption and decided not to leverage this feature after prototyping for the following reasons:
1.     EBS Operations need to support fire-and-forget as well as asynchronous delayed response MEPs. We had to support this functionality of Requester ABCS at run time indicating in the EBM whether it needs the response or not. EBS.Operation would be invoked by both fire-and-forget and asynchronous delayed response MEP requesters; and for the delayed responses, ResponseEBS.Operation would be used. Hardwiring the MEP at the EBS Operation level would lead us to create 2 operations – one for fire-and-forget and another for asynchronous delayed response
2.     This stateless programming model allows us to be OSB-friendly
3.     To be backwardly compatible with 2.x services
Any custom solution built by you can certainly leverage the 11g Mediator's callback facility provided your requester ABCS is coded always to receive a callback from EBS. You could certainly leverage this pattern if you dont have a need for Requester ABCS to invoke EBS using fire-and-forget pattern.

Restore rows from a deleted table

Dear all,
My developer accidentally use "delete from" to delete rows from a table in archive log, can I only restore these rows without affecting other data?
If yes, would you just brieft me the way to do it?

Which version of oracel you are on?
If you are using 9i or greater, data deleted some time ago and your are using undo tablespace with rentention which satisify the lost time, you can use flash back facility to bring the deleted back.
The other option would, restore the database from back up to another system, do the incomplete recovery using until time option (time when the develper deleted the data), export the table and import back to the production one.

What is the mechanism behind processing credit card payment on net?

Excuse my ignorance, i just completely dont have any knowledge about it. Here is what i thought: when a customer submit his/her credit card information on a e-commerce site, the site's server will make remote request to Bank's(?) server, which would verify the information user has provided, payment would be proceeded if those information is correct and sends message back to the e-commerce site's server. Or if the payment cant not be proceeded,the e-commerce site's server receives error message possibly saying the user's credit card info can not by verified. someone plz correct me if there are any mistake.
So, how can i simulate this mechanism on a single pc? What i thought was i need to set up a db on mysql which simulates the bank's db, stores people's credit card info. For the e-commerce site i run on Tomcat, i may set up db connection(JDBC) to this db and verify user's credit card info. But i dont think this is how it works in reality, isn it? It would be possibly using java RMI(i am just guessing, havent digged into this area yet) to complete the task. So, if this is the case, can i simulate it on a single pc? Or do i have to phycially have two PCs, have both of them connected to my house's LAN, one runs e-commerce website on tomcat, the other runs mysql db server, then i can start simulating it by using java RMI? This is just something i've been wondering these day. As the uni's long holiday getting closer, i am thinking of giving myself a project gotta be something like this, so i would not get bored during the holidays. I really wish someone would explain me some ideas. Many many thanks...

a real e-commerce site, that would be less secure than

yes, i am runing both mysql db and Tomcat on my pc. So, i am wondering that i could possibly set up two separate databases, one holds data for whatever e-commerce site i am going to build, and the other simulates the bank's database that stores peope's credit card information, which can be accessed by the e-commerce site's JSP pages thru RMI for the purpose of validating credit card information. On the other hand, honestly, i am even asking myself what's the point or purpose of doing it in such a way? In fact, this is one of my subjects' project, that we've been given much flexibility about the way we simulate/implement the interaction between e-commerce site and bank's database. The goal is just trying to make it as close to what's happening in reality as possible. I was thinking of just creating a table that holds users' credit card information and put it with other e-commerce's site db tables altogether. But that just sounds like too far away from how it is done in reality, doesnt it? That's why i came up with the above ideas, what still not sure if it's proper way of doing it. Jesus, i am missed....

Macbook Pro Trackpad problem

Hi,
A month back, I purchased a MacBook Pro 13" and am a new Mac user. I was delighted by the way the trackpad operations were so smooth. After use for about a week or two, I installed Parallels Desktop to run windows applications. I found that the trackpad does not work to its fullest in Windows so I installed a Microsoft COmpact Optical Mouse 500 v 2.0. THe next two days went off well. But suddenly when i started my MBP one day, the cursor started dancing around, even when Parallels was not running. I could not properly use the gestures or they were not working at all. After an hour or so, the trackpad was back to normal but was so shortlived and again the cursor started become jumpy. I had to revert to using the MS mouse. This erratic behaviour has now become normal. I have searched for help topics including by Apple regarding jumpy and erratic trackpad operation, but none helped. I am from India, and the Apple support here seems to be absent as there is no call back facility nor any helpline. I am still under Technical support and Warranty but dont know whom to call.
Can anyone guide me as to how can i self solve and / or any way to contact Apple support in India.

I believe that the trackpad working when you are at home and not when you are in th office is merely a coincidence. The hardware/software for your trackpad and Wi-Fi are completely independant of eachother and could not affect eachother. Your best option is to ultilize your one year AppleCare Protection Plan. The support is 24/7. You can visit them on the web at www.apple.com/support in the US or 1-800-275-2273.
If you wanted to do a little testing to figure out if this is hardware or software you can always make a system state backup with time machine. Once the you Mac is backed up with time machine you can restore the Mac to factory condition and see if the trackpad works properly. If this solves the issue you know the problem is software related, if not then you will definately want Apple to replace/repair your Macbook before the warranty expires. If they do exchange your machine you will grateful you have the time machine backup anyways! :-)

I have lost my autologin facility with firfox4 how can I get it back?

I had a autologin facility with Norton. I thought it wuld eb wise to downlaod version4. My autologin in no longer shows-it would autofill in passwords once i logged in. Now I have to go into Norton to retrieve these and it is taking so much time. what can i do. I do not like the retreive last log on particularly either. can one revert back to the earlier firefox?

If you made backups of all of your photos and your catalog file using some third-party method (i.e. not using the PSE catalog backup command), then you should be able to restore everything.
Step 1. Put the photos in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as before. For example, if they were in subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents, then they must go into the exact same subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents.
Step 2. Move the catalog file to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it.
