Background application for handwriting text input

Hi,
Is it possible to have a background application running or through any other way so that my application can provide a handwriting input mode wherever iPhone takes text input through keyboard?
All the best,
Saad

Hi Saad -
Legal, non-system iPhone apps can't run in the background, and no such app would have permission to read another app's input even if it could run in the background. There are some forms of communication between apps, such as registered URL's and PUSH notification, but since only one app can run at a time, there's no communication option that's close to what you're looking for. I think your idea would require the kind of tight integration used in assistive technology such as screen readers. Given the kind of security users expect from the iPhone, such a feature would need to be part of the system.
I think the library you described in your other post is most likely the best way to distribute your software. However you might also consider providing a web service. You might think of the web as the primary means of inter process communication for iPhone apps. A web service might allow developers to buy your technology on a pay-as-you-go basis instead of buying the rights to the library. Maybe that could work if you decode static info. Of course if you need a log of the touch events, you'd probably need so much processing in the client that a library would be much better... Just thinking out loud in the unlikely case any of my thoughts are useful to you. Obviously I know nothing about handwriting recognition, and I've wandered off topic. The short answer to your original question is no.

  • Can you no longer have a background color for the text box in the new version of hp photo creations

    just updated to the new version of HP Photo Creations, used to be able to have a colored background for the text box - is that no longer possible in this new (not better) version????!!!!! Uuuuuuuuuugh

    Hi Lainey.
    Thanks for asking. We're working on bringing back that feature. In the meantime, here's another way to add text backgrounds: Add a placeable graphic and then click the Arrange button to send it to the back, behind the text.
    That approach also gives you more interesting shapes. The new alignment guides make it a snap to align a graphic with a text box. In the example below (it may take a day for the image to show up here), I also used the new Premium Editing Features to change the color of the graphic.
    P.S. — Applying a thick border to an empty text box (also using the Premium Editing Features) is another way to create a background shape. That has the advantage of letting you pick any color for the box. You'll also find several new text styles at the bottom of the new text menu.

  • Conditional for a text input box NOT being null? Sorry for asking so many questions!

    Okay, here's the situation. I'm creating a simulation of a form on which there are several text input boxes, 7 of which are mandatory fields. I know I can use a conditional to check whether the box has nothing in it by creating a null variable with no value and doing "if [box variable] is equal to [null variable] then", but the problem is that the validation captions I need to show need to be shown in order, that is to say that the caption for entering a value for the first box will always be shown if that box is null regardless of the contents of other boxes, the second will be shown if that one is null and the first one isn't etc.
    When I was investigating this I noticed a post by Lilybiri saying that comparison with a null variable doesn't work for "not equal to" so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to show the captions based on priority. For example, to show the second caption I need to not only check whether the second box variable is null, but also whether the first one isn't.
    It gets pretty crazy further along the line where I get to the 7th mandatory field and need to check whether the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth boxes are NOT null and whether the 7th one IS. Help!
    I did come up with one potential solution to this prior to posting: if I set a different advanced action for each input box losing focus which checks whether the variable is null and if so sets a "flag" variable to 0, and in the else set it to 1, I imagine I can then replace the "not equal to" with a check to that flag variable being equal to 1 (which means there is text in the box). I think this will work but I thought I'd check to see if there's an easier way first.

    No it DOESN'T require everything to be on one slide.  It just has to LOOK as if that's what it is.
    I would suggest that it doesn't really matter how many Captivate slides are involved in the final solution, as long as it works the same way (or as close as possible) to the original software that you are simulating.  Your users don't frankly know or care how you achieved the simulation.  I guarantee they won't be thinking of you or Captivate.
    In my experience, you can make creating elearning a lot more difficult than it needs to be in Captivate by trying to rebuild the app, rather than just simulating how it works. For example, thinking that if everything happened on one web page or screen in the app then it must also happen on a single slide in Captivate.  The fact of the matter is IT DOESN'T need to work this way.  And in some cases it might even be impossible to reproduce in Captivate this way.
    So the quickest path to a solution is often to use multiple slides, which has the advantage of allowing you to "fix" certain things on screen (e.g. the contents of fields already visited) by using READ ONLY variable output in transparent captions, focusing only on one element of the interface that the user can interact with on that slide.  It doesn't necessarily prevent you from moving back and forth between elements, just as you can in the original app.  But it is far easier to create and maintain.
    I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to pull this off on one slide in Captivate, but it is going to require a LOT of variables and Advanced Actions to build and debug.  So the term Rapid Elearning becomes something of a misnomer if it takes you a long time to complete one slide.

  • Background expandable for new text??

    Here is a link to the website I am building first off. My issue is that my background is not getting larger or smaller with the amount of text.  On my home page there is like a bulletin box with text on it. As of right now I have to edit the wording so that it fits within the fixed confines of the box.
    I have the same issue on the "Board of Directors" page.  I need to be able to add text below the last row of photos but there isn't room and I cant get the background to expand with the content on the page.
    I am writing all of the text and did all of the graphical elements in Fireworks CS4 and exported the pages into Dreamweaver CS4, if that helps.
    How do I make it so that everything expands with the wording?

    I'm not sure I understand. There is NO TEXT on your pages, Everything is a graphic. You need to use Fireworks to export your graphics only. Build your site in DW and use real text, not graphic text. Relying on Fireworks to create your html is a mistake. It will create a rigid structure that is extrememly hard to modify in an html application.

  • Paint type application for centred text

    Looking for the above as I am creating a jpeg and want to add text and be able to control where that text is on the jpeg.
    Tried Paintbrush 1.2 but it is not easy to control the text.
    Anyone any suggestions..... looking for freeware application ( or something I already have within Mac OSX and didn't realise ! )

    I use Preview to do it.
    First, add the Annotate tools to the Tool Bar:
    View > Customize Tool Bar
    Add the Annotate tools
    Second, click and hold on the Annotate Tool in the Tool Bar until you see the Note Tool.
    Click on the Note tool.
    Use the mouse to draw a rectangle in the picture.
    You will see the word "text" centered in the rectangle.
    Select the word text and type what you need.
    You can choose fonts and colors.
    Good luck.

  • Set background color for conditional text fields by click of button.

    Hi,
    I am new to apex, the scenario is when i click on a button i.e. Save, it shoulld compare 2 fields P1 and P2 which are text fields.
    If the value of P1 is greaterthan P2 then the whole P1 text field background color should change to "Red" otherwise in any other condition the P1 field should be "Green" color.
    In which section the color function should be called on the Save button?
    On the page in the HTML Header section i have added the below code but the background color is not getting set.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function fncChangeColor()
    var num1 = $v('P1');
    var num2 = $v('P2');
    if ( num1 > num2 ) {
    document.getElementById("P1").style.background = "RED";
    else {
    document.getElementById("P1").style.background = "GREEN";
    </script>
    Can any one help me in moving ahead with this scenario with a detailed information.
    Thanks,
    Priyanka.

    Hi,
    Call function on button URL target
    javascript:fncChangeColor()If button should submit page, then I think you do not need color field to green.
    Just change to run submit function.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function fncChangeColor(){
    var num1 = $v('P1');
    var num2 = $v('P2');
    if ( num1 > num2 ) {
      $x("P1").style.background = "RED";
      return false;
    apex.submit({request:"YOUR_REQUEST"});
    </script>Regards,

  • How to give Common Background color for all JPanels in My Swing application

    Hi All,
    I am developing a swing application using The Swing Application Framework(SAF)(JSR 296). I this application i have multiple JPanel's embedded in a JTabbedPane. In this way i have three JTabbedPane embedded in a JFrame.
    Now is there any way to set a common background color for the all the JPanel's available in the application??
    I have tried using UIManager.put("Panel.background",new Color.PINK);. But it did not work.
    Also let me know if SAF has some inbuilt method or way to do this.
    Your inputs are valuable.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Nishanth.C

    It is not the fault of NetBeans' GUI builder, JPanels are opaque by default, I mean whether you use Netbeans or not.Thank you!
    I stand corrected (which is short for +"I jumped red-eyed on my feet and rushed to create an SSCCE to demonstrate that JPanels are... mmm... oh well, they are opaque by default... ;-[]"+)
    NetBeans's definitely innocent then, and indeed using it would be an advantage (ctrl-click all JPanels in a form and edit the common opaque property to false) over manually coding
    To handle this it would be better idea to make a subclass of JPanel and override isOpaque() to return false. Then use this 'Trasparent Panel' for all the panels where ever transparency is required.I beg to differ. From a design standpoint, I'd find it terrible (in the pejorative sense of the word) to design a subclass to inconsistently override a getter whereas the standard API already exposes the property (both get and set) for what it's meant: specify whether the panel is opaque.
    Leveraging this subclass would mean changing all lines where a would-be-transparent JPanel is currently instantiated, and instantiate the subclass instead.
    If you're editing all such lines anyway, you might as well change the explicit new JPanel() for a call to a factory method createTransparentJPanel(); this latter could, at the programmer's discretion, implement transparency whichever way makes the programmer's life easier (subclass if he pleases, although that makes me shudder, or simply call thePanel.setOpaque(false) before returning the panel). That way the "transparency" code is centralized in a single easy to maintain location.
    I had to read the code for that latter's UI classes to find out the keys to use (+Panel.background+, Label.foreground, etc.), as I happened to not find this info in an authoritative document - I see that you seem to know thoses keys, may I ask you where you got them from?
    One of best utilities I got from this forum, written by camickr makes getting these keys and their values very easy. You can get it from his blog [(->link)|http://tips4java.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/uimanager-defaults/]
    Definitely. I bit a pair of knucles off when discovered it monthes after cumbersomely traversing the BasicL&F code...
    Still, it is a matter-of-fact approach (and this time I don't mean that to sound pejorative), that works if you can test the result for a given JDK version and L&F, but doesn't guarantee that these keys are there to stand - an observation, but not a specification.
    Thanks TBM for highlighting this blog entry, that's the best keys list device I have found so far, but the questions still holds as to what specifies the keys.

  • Text-input component with auto-complete functionality for mobile

    Hey guys,
    I wonder if there is a text-input component with auto-complete functionality optimized for mobile development with AIR like the one that Android provides natively as you can see here http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/AutoCompleteTextView.html and here http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-autocomplete.html.
    At least I didn't find it in the latest SDK and I think such a component is pretty standard nowadays. Or did I simply overlook it?
    Thank you guys for any advice.
    Regards,
    Thilo

    Hi relaxtraja,
    thanks for your reply!
    I knew that there are a lot of auto-complete scripts on the web. What I was hoping was, that Adobe provides an officially supported auto-complete component optimized for mobile as part of the SDK (like in the Android SDK as I pointed out), but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's sad, because it's an essential part of modern UIs in mobile applications.
    I've already created an auto-complete component by myself based on Spark components and I will end up using it. But I will have to optimize it for mobile applications beforehands. I just think something this essential should be provided by the SDK.
    However, thanks for posting!

  • Text input boxes same colour as background - so "invisible", and button text or buttons often missingt

    I have turned off all addons/extensions/plugins - still the same problem:
    1: Text input boxes appear to be the same colour as the background - and hence "invisible"
    2: Clickable buttons on websites are often invisible, or if they display have no text; e.g. button to right of google search ("go" button?) is seen as a plain box with no text - although button is clickable.
    3: Google webpage usually has an image - this is missing, and merely has "UK" to the top left of the input box.
    4: On this page for example I can see directly above this text box two vertical black lines - it appears to be a button with a pop-up "insert a link" - it can obviously be clicked when I mouse over it.

    Do you have a specific question about video production?
    The forums are for individual technical or creative issues that users have with video production. I am sur someone will be able to help you, but and to get a response it is best to ask a specific question.
    Is this about a technical problem you have or something about setting up a web site? If its the latter this is the wrong forum.
