Background around my canvas isn't grey anymore.. Picture

I recently installed a new GPU and ever since my working area around my canvas has changed to the checkered board pattern almost as like you were to make a new document and select the background of your new project to transparent. It's lagging the heck out of my computer and it's unbelievably hard to focus. I included a picture so hopefully I will receive some help.

At first glance it looks as though you've made the canvas size of your document very large, so that what you're seeing is transparency all around the part of your image is Photoshop's default checkerboard transparency indicator.
However, you wouldn't expect to be able to see the canvas color pop-up dialog on right-click in a transparent background, and there are no scroll bar thumbs, so I'd say you are seeing something you shouldn't be seeing.
Just a wild guess, but does it do this if you temporarily disable the Edit - Preferences - Performance - [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing setting?
If that setting changes the behavior, perhaps you should try updating your video drivers to the latest from the web site of the manufacturer of your video card.

Specifically, you will want to take note of this section:
The headphones don't work
If your iPod's headphones don't work or have static or garbled audio, try connecting them to any other 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, like the one on your computer. If the issue with the headphones persists, replace them. For an iPod under warranty, you can order a replacement online. Otherwise, check out the cool headphones at the Apple Online Store. If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Connect your device to iTunes and do the update through iTunes. Using a computer takes much less space on your device than doing the update on your device.

To enable this right you need Acrobat, not the free Reader.
However, starting from Reader X it is possible to add simple markups to any file, unless it has been specifically disallowed by the creator of the file.

White background around graphics shows as a blue tint ...

The white background around graphics that contain a drop shadow,shows as a blue tinted region only when printing as a pdf/pdf-x file to color laser printers. Ink jet printers print the page correctly. Since I work in a pc environment, I save pages files as pdf or pdf-x onto a flash drive. When I open the file on a pc in acrobat reader, it shows the white background. The color laser is an HP Color Laserjet 2550PS. I'd like to include the drop shadows and print to the laser, since the inkjets are being phased out.
Any suggestions about the cause or solution to this problem?

Without proper system information nobody can tell you anything specific. You can always delete the Bridge cache at the operating system level - it is, after all, merely a file/ folder.

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, I lose a note in my notes application. This sometimes happens when I have just opened it, or when next time I open my ipad, it just isn't there anymore. Can it only be retrieved before iCloud backs up automatically?

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, I lose a note in my notes application. This happens when I either have just opened a notes page or when next time I open my ipad, a note just isn't there anymore. It does seem to occur randomly i.e. independent of note size or age. Very annoying. I guess it can only be retrieved from iCloud before the next automatic back-up? Does anyone know why this happens and what can be done about it to prevent it in future? Is there a limit to how many note pages this app can store (presently I have about 70). I have started to email every note I make on my iPad to myself to be on the safe side. Is the Notes App really so unreliable? Anyone else with the same problem?

Oddly enough, the size/format of some names can make odd things happen with network Time Machine backups, and at least one of yours may be involved. See #C9 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Do your self a favor, though. Even if you get this working, do not depend on these backups 100%. There's a reason Apple doesn't support it -- it's not reliable.

How do I cut and paste in Elements 10. I want to change the background around a Christmas tree.

One way would be to open the background image, then go to File<Place and select your christmas tree image.
Now you have two layers.
Make a selection of the christmas tree with the Quick Selection Tool and then add a layer mask.
Now you can see the background around the tree.
Of course your selection may still need some tweaking, so you could paint on the layer mask to further refine the selection.

White backgrounds around swf's

I'm having some trouble with a site once I've uploaded it to
the server.
All my flash swf's have white backgrounds around them
although I have specified a background colour of #2D44C8 to blend
them into the site. I can not seem to get rid of the white
backgrounds.
The swf's display correctly on my pc, and work fine once
embeded in dreamweaver and viewed on pc, but once site is uploaded
I get the white backgrounds again, this can be seen on following

The background area was set in flash to #2D44C8 in the fla
file and displays correctly when published on pc.
The "div" the swf file was inserted into in dreamweaver had a
background colour of #2D44C8.
The web pages displayed correctly on my pc but once uploaded,
the background area's in the swf files had turned white?
If this makes sense? I would like to know what I am doing
wrong so I can stop it occuring in the future.

Menu > Format > Instant Alpha > slide the cursor over the color you want to eliminate till it looks good
