Backups are not being started....volumes do not exist?

I am having issues where backup jobs are not getting started/completed.
I can see in the "jobs" report that there are many attempts (sometimes 50+) to run the job, but it never completes.
I believe the OSB software is looking for a volume that does not exist in the tape library. It's possible that they may have existed at one time (though I'm not sure), but I've run inventory several times and for what ever reason it does not exist anymore. I do not see anything in the "manage->location report ->missing" reports. I've looked in obcleanup and nothing is listed there either.
Is OSB really looking for a volume that doesn't exist, or is something else going on?

"device reported incorrect serial number" is the key here.
Your device is misconfigured and the entry for its serial number doesn't match the serial number being reported by the scsi enquiry. Has a drive been replaced? If the drives have swtiched order due to a reboot then I suggest you use /dev/tape/by-id as your attach points rather than direct /dev/sg entries.

  • One or more hard drives in Server Backup are not connected

A year ago I moved from Windows Home Server to Server Essentials 2012 as a backup solution for my simple home configuration - 2 Windows 7 Professional desktops.  It was a perfect solution and works flawlessly - and has saved my tail on numerous
    occasions.
The configuration is simple - I have a internal SSD drive from the operating system and a few other applications and (2) identical 4 Terabyte internal hard drives setup as a single storage pool - configured as a 2 way mirror.  Every few days when I
log into the Windows Dashboard and check out the alert viewer, I have a single error - "One or more hard drives in Server Backup are not connected".  When I follow the instructions - open the dashboard, click storage, hard drives - I see a single
C drive (which of course is connected - it runs the OS) and a single D drive - the storage pool.  Clicking on the D drive and "Advanced - Manage Storage Spaces" shows my single pool (a green OK) and the 2 physical drives (also a green OK).
There are no other drives attached to this server - no external USB drives, external hard drives - nothing.  Why is WSE showing this message?
    Matt M

Go into the Server Backup Selections and reconfirm what is selected, then save.
If it persists, change the selection (remove a folder) and save, then go back in and correct it, then save.

Just got an iPad mini 3 and have not reset my iPad mini 3; is that why the photos from iCloud backup are not showing up in the new iPad?

Sorry, don't know what you are asking. You have an old iPad Mini 3 and a new iPad Mini 3?  How did you set up the new iPad? Did you restore it from a backup of the old iPad? What photos are you not seeing?
    Cheers,

    Hi RemkoP,
Based on your description, you can check whether you have a full backup file in your backup folder. Differential backups are backups of the changes that have occured since your last full database backup. If there no full backups, then we cannot perform a
    differential backup.
You might do a full backup for the database, then do the differential backup. If you have any other concerns, please elaobrate more details about your scenario and reproduce steps.
    Best regards,

  • Spool numbers are not exist in TBTCP table but can be visible at SP01 trans

    HI folks,
I could see four spool errors in SP01 transaction .But i couldn't able to find which job/program had generated that spool. I have checked TBTCP table also..but those spool numbers are not exist in that table.
Can any one please help me on this.

    Hi Manj,
There is no error in SP01 tcode.
You need to check the tables TSP01 and so on and find the sppol numbers and then the user name and the times generated.
It works with a different mechanism.it's a RDBMS Concept and normalisation.
you can even use the FM RSPO_FIND_SPOOL_REQUESTS. or look for FMS RSPO* and explore.

  • Automatic backups are not working on one drive in Mt. Lion

I am having some trouble with automatic backups  from my 2009 MacBook Pro to one drive in Mountain Lion:
    * The drive in question is an external 500 GB USB or Firewire drive.
    * I encrypted the drive with FileVault 2
    * Manual backups work fine to this drive.
    * Automatic backups work fine from the MBP to my server at home (running Mt. Lion Server)
I have tried multiple iterations of deleting Time Machine preferences, and even of erasing the external drive, to no avail.  The only lead I have is that the MBP logs the following error when I back up to the external drive:
    9/4/12 12:01:33.899 PM com.apple.backupd[28054]: Failed to upgrade encrypted tmbootpicker.efi: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=-50 "Could not find any Apple_Boot corresponding to the encrypted volume..." UserInfo=0x7f81e28694a0 {NSLocalizedDescription=Could not find any Apple_Boot corresponding to the encrypted volume...}
For what it's worth, here is the partition map from my machine, including the drive in question (/dev/disk3):
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *1.0 TB     disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:          Apple_CoreStorage                         896.5 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
       4:       Microsoft Basic Data MAXIE-WIN7              102.9 GB   disk0s4
    /dev/disk1
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:                  Apple_HFS Maxie-HD               *896.1 GB   disk1
    /dev/disk3
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:                  Apple_HFS WSE-Buffalo-3          *499.4 GB   disk3
The error makes sense based on the partition map, but I'm not sure how to recreating the missing Apple_Boot volume.  I suspect that missing volume is causing automatic backups to fail(???).  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

Please find diskutil cs list output appended to this article.  Well, the plot thickens.  Now, automatic backups are being skipped on the server backup from the laptop.  Thiis started occurring after Time Machine did a lengthy verify (fsck?) of the backup.  Automatic backups are working fine from our other three computers.  The server backs up to the local disk, and the other two computers use the server.  I think the next thing to do is to look at Time Machine preferences...

  • BACKUPS ARE NOT CORRUPTED/DAMAGED

Hie, I performed a Repair in Disk Utility on my TimeCapsule Sparsebundle disk image & it's been painfully long in time but It has now finished with words in green saying THE VOLUME TIME MACHINE BACKUPS APPEARS TO BE OK.
So please can somebody guide me as to how I can transfer these backups that are on my 500GB TimeCapsule to my new 1GB TimeCapsule & Also I would like to save/Archive them on my 500GB USB external hardrive.
I did this as I have been on the forum trying to workout why I couldn't Archive them onto my USB External Hardrive but it kept failing & I was told that my backups appeared damaged/corrupted but their not
So is there a way. I can move them from my old TC to my new TC & carryon from where I left off?
    THANKYOU

I've got it I've just read that to have a USB external hardrive to work with a TimeCapsule It has to be formatted in (Extended) Format. My EHDrive was journaled that's why it wouldn't backup so I'm proud I've finally Worked it out on my own So I changed the format using Disk Utility & now it's backing up FINALLY MY BACKUPS ARE SAFE !
My backups were ok all along. Not damaged etc. 

When I tried to update my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1, I was forced to choose to restore or back up.  Back up wasn't working so I had no choice but to restore.  I lost pictures over the last two years.  When I tried my cloud, there was nothing.  I would get notifications that my cloud was full, but I thought there would at least be some photos in there.  When I tried to restore a back up, it said the last time was two years ago.  I thought when you're on wifi, it automatically backs up.  I've charged my iPhone into my Macbook a bunch of times, so something should have backed up.  Is there any hope for my photos?

Sorry no backup - no pictures.
Yes phone will automatically backup to icloud when on wifi and phone is charge, but your phone storage was full so it stop backing up.

  • Leopard TM backups are NOT compatible with Snow Leopard

I just discovered while upgrading to Snow Leopard that Time Machine backups made in Leopard are not compatible with Snow Leopard at this time. So, for those of you who are considering upgrading to Snow Leopard using your TM backups to restore your data, the TM backup will not be recognised by Snow Leopard.
I called Apple Care to check this when I went to restore my data as I had done an Erase and Install, and they confirmed that I would have to either:
    a) use the data on my TM drive as any other data only backup, or
    b) re-inslall Leopard, restore the TM backup, then upgrade to Snow Leopard rather than erase and install.
    For info

    Scott in MD wrote:
Incidentally, yes, the "package" file is the in.Progress file. It seems to have the incremental updates, since it's a real big file, and has very recent entries. Again the last set of timestamped folders (i.e. a full backup) was over a year ago.
No, something's very wrong. All (completed) TM backups are the same.
Inside the Backups.backupdb folder should be a single folder with your computer name; inside that should be a series of folders with the date & time of each remaining backup, plus the Latest folder which is an alias to the most recent of the date & time folders, except an "in.Progress" folder.
The "in.Progress" folder is an incomplete (failed or cancelled) backup, and is ignored in all TM displays, since it's unusable.
In any event I have not deleted or changed any of the files. Also the stuff in the "Latest" folder is over a year old. But I've had TM running the whole time.
So does that mean (I'm hoping) that my recent stuff will be recovered from the inProgress file if I can ever get this working? Or does it mean I'm screwed anyways, because the best I can get is the files from the Latest or most recent timestamped folder (again, both a year back).
First, run +*Repair Disk+* again (and again) until it either fixes all the errors or can't fix any more. If it can't fix any more, it's barely possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party app such as +DiskWarrior 4.2+ can (it's about $100).
Let's see if DU can fix it on a second pass. Hopefully it will, and the problem was preventing the more recent backups from appearing.

  • Backups are not working.

Today when I attempted to back up my phone and put some new music on there it did not do it how it should. I connected my phone, opened itunes, selceted my songs and pressed sync. It starts backing up everything on my phone even though there is a resent backup. So Im like, ok, well i will just wait. I come back 3 hours later to find that it just finished and that i forgot to put an albem that i wanted.
So i figure, this will be easy and take 5 minites. It did not. It backed up my whole phone again and then i noticed that it is not even backing it up, it just says it is and then never transfers the purchases. So i wait 6 hours to get 20 songs on my phone...
Any idea what is wrong or what i am doing wrong. Here is what i have tried...
    Using a different computer.
Cancling backup and going strait to downloading content.
looking on google for an answer.
I have about $100-$200 worth of apps and music on my phone, and it will not transfer to my computer. Help?

You can only sync to one itunes library at a time. So using another computer will delete all media content when you sync the first time.
Everytime you sync, your phone creates a backup, the old one will be overwritten. Here's what you can try: Reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up, ignore the " slide to power off" screen.
Disable autosync, connect your phone, right click on your phone in the device list and choose transfer purchases. This will copy your apps and purchased music to your computer. You can backup manually the same way. A backup can be quite big depending on the media data on the phone, for example movies. Since a backup contains all kind of data (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766) exept media content you didn't buy in the store or photos you didn't take with the phone, make sure you have this content on your computer.
You can download apps a second time (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519) but this does not count for purchased music, you'll have to backup your purchases by yourself (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382 or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751)
So, if resetting the phone does not make your backup faster, restore your phone "as new phone" and sync your data back from itunes again. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414)
