Bad color tint added in process of making m2v files

I exported some footage that I had color corrected very specifically, but after it goes through Compressor in an m2v conversion, it comes with this awful red tint. I can go back to the original movie and try to overcompensate, but I shouldn't have this problem.
Anyone else experience this?

I have the same errors occurring at an alarming rate. I did isolate it to the App Store. Specifically when checking for an update. I was hoping that you could test this out for me. Go to your console log and select all messages and then check kernel in the sender box (bottom left). I found that now is a good time to insert a marker. Now launch the app store then got to the update section. Select check for update.
Does this generate a series of the errors? I can reproduce the errors every time I "check for updates". The error would not show up when checking for updates in iTunes.
I did notice errors in both extending from CFNetwork

    Ick...
    1) until you know the exceptions to the rule, always use PreparedStatement, never Statement.
    2) your database is smart, if you use it smarly. The worst way to use it is as a totally dumb repository of data which you load into your application, as exemplified by your login code.
    3) Your resultset is automatically positioned in the right spot for iterating when you recieve it; you don't need to call result.first(), and when you call result.next(), you're moved to the 2nd record, your code skips the first user.
    4) Since I almost never use first(), I can't be sure, but I think it fails when you have an empty result set, that might be what's giving the cursor state message...
    I'd code this as:
        try{
          // correct the SQL for whatever your column names actually are
          statement = conn.createPreparedStatement("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM USETS where un = ? and pw = ?");
          statement.setString(1,user);
          statement.setString(2,pass);
          ResultSet resultset = statement.executeQuery();
          resultset.next();
           if ( resultset.getInt(1) > 0 ) found = true;
        }catch(Exception ee){
          ee.printStackTrace();
        finally {
          statement.close();
        }One real problem this has is that it's passing a cleartext password over the network; of course your design is storing a cleartext password in the DB, which is also less than ideal. Many secure applications don't actually store the password, they store a salted MD5 hash of the password; when a login request is recieved, the submitted password is hashed and compared to the stored hash.

  • Compressor presets making m2v file too big

    I am on fresh install of tiger fcp suite, all up to date. I use DVD best quality 120 min preset and it spits out a 5 gig m2v. I try to set my own custom setting with exact bitrate to maximize quality and use up disc space, never exceeding safe levels. and it creates file smuch bigger than compressor 1.2.1 did with same settings.

    I've just completed my third attempt to encode a 1h57min video using the following settings, based on the DVD Best Quality 4:3 factory presets.
    - Avg Bit Rate: 4.6 | Max Bitrate 7.5
    Result: M2V file too large (> 5gb!)
    - Avg Bit Rate 4.6 | Max Bitrate 7.0
    Result: M2V slightly smaller, but still too large (> 4.8gb!)
    - Avg Bit Rate 4.0 | Max Bitrate 7.0
    Result: M2V file still too large, at 4.72gb!
    *Again, these file sizes are the M2V files BY THEMSELVES!*
    BTW, I used a trusted bitrate calculator to get the 4.6 avg bitrate reading for a 120min video. I've also used that bitrate without issue in Compressor 1.
    The source is an 8-bit Uncompressed video timeline from FCP 5.0.2. There are no cuts in the timeline, as it was digitized directly from the source and placed on the timeline to be encoded with chapter markers in place. The only image transformation within Compressor set to occur is the cropping of the bottom 2 video fields to comform the 486 lines to 480.
    This has wasted THREE days of my time. And in all cases, the estimated file sizes reported by Compressor 2 has been grossly inaccurate.
    How am I supposed to work around this without churning out video that looks like utter crud???
    I've already had to drop my Avg and Max Bitrates from 5.0mbps to 4.0mpbs, even though Apple's preset for 120 minutes Best Quality lists 5.0mpbs with a max bitrate 7.5mbps. If the Apple presets aren't even working at this, clearly there is something wrong here.

  • Process Color Tint: Illustrator versus Freehand

    I'm a FreeHand user from the first hour and now I'm forced to start working with AI which gives me the creeps!
    In FH it is very easy to create a "tint" of a spot or process color. in AI, I only manage to do so with spot colors and not with process colors. For example, I have an object filled with 100% process color from the Swatches panel. Now I can change its transparency to 50% but that's not what I want; I want it to be filled with 50% of that same process color. In FH that's a piece of a cake. And even so in ID! why not in AI?

    You need to use Global Process swatches, which are essentially process colors that function as spots.
    In the Swatches palette, in List View, you should see a grey square next to the color model square (in Thumbnail view you will see a white dog-eared lower right corner of the swatch with no dot (the dot denotes a Spot).
    In the Color palette you can change the tint of your Global Process color just as you can with a Spot. If you want to make a Tint Swatch, set it to some value, say 40%, and click the New Swatch button at the bottom of the Swatches palette (second from the right at the bottom).
    Now when you edit your base color, all the tints change along with it.
    Note: this will not magically apply the color to your art. It is best done at the beginning or while you are working, NOT as an afterthought. If you have existing art you should probably look at Live Color to get you by.
    PS: Sorry if I came off brusque, but it's disheartening how often people come in here immediately bashing AI. I personally hate Freehand (and I had to use it for a long time) but it has no relevance to these discussions. And I'm not saying it didn't have its good stuff, it did - I just never cared for it compared to AI.

  • Printing to an Epson R2880 results in bad color (only from Adobe SW)

    I've had a nice workflow that I've used for years.  I'm sure many of you would find it a bit tedious and I won't go into the details of it, but the important part is that I always printed out of Photoshop (CS6 Extended - now at 13.0.3 - yes I have the stupid Trial window bug, but that's another matter).  My monitors are profiled (no custom printer profiles, but I've downloaded appropriate profiles from PixelGenius for those times when I've needed them, and with my color management my prints have been fairly accurate.  I use and Epson Stylus Photo R2880 and I've been very happy with it.  I mainly work on a 24" iMac (2009 vintage).  Recently I decided to change my workflow entirely based on some of the tutorial videos I've purchased from LL.  I decided I was ready to integrate much more LR into the workflow, especially now that it includes soft proofing.  Because of the new workflow I was really looking forward to printing out of LR.  That should more or less get you current.
    To date, I haven't printed with my new workflow and I'd say I haven't printed anything since 13.0.1 on PS and 4.1 on LR (not that I was printing from LR at the time).  Having not printed in a while I knew I'd need a head cleaning (sure enough I did) and, as is my habit, once the head was clean, I printed (from LR) a 4x6 of the image I planned on printing at a larger size.  It catches any lingering gunk after a cleaning.  The print just didn't look right to me (too dark and the colors were a little off).  I've encountered prints with bad colors once before and it turned out to be a driver issue.  In the process I found a great image that is indicative of some kind of problem and I keep both good and bad prints of it handy... just in case.  I decided to print this image, and sure enough it came out looking like the standard craptastic version I was getting with the bad driver ages ago.  Just to check out that it didn't have to do with my new process, I printed the same image from PS (which worked fine last time I printed this image).  It too came out all wrong (the same all wrong as LR).  Since the bad prints looked just like the old "bad driver" prints, I figured I knew what was going on and worked with Epson to reset my print pipeline and reinstall my printers (I also have a Workforce 845 for "throw away" printing and for my wife to use).
    With new installs for my printers in place I went ahead and printed again... and again it came out wrong.  I was, to say the least, despondent.  As a final sanity check I loaded the image up in Nikon Capture NX2 (version 2.3.1) and did a print.  All of a sudden the print came out perfect.  It matched my old "good" prints and, just as importantly, was a dead ringer for the image on the screen.  This is where I find myself.  Apparently color management is broken in my Adobe products, but works fine in my Nikon software.  I'm at a bit of a loss.  I'm 99.999999999% sure that I'm printing out of LR, and especially PS, correctly.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'd love to be able to print again.  Printing out of Capture NX2 is really not a great option.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    I agree this whole issue is confusing. I have been on the issue (proper printer driver behavior and proper application behavior) using Apple's new print path for a few years now, so I will try to make an attempt to clear up as much confusion as possible.
    If drivers and applications are working (written) properly this is how it is supposed to work.
    When printer manages color is selected in an application print dialog then all functions of the printer driver are available.
    When applications manages color is selected then Color Matching is grayed out defaulted to ColorSync, and the property written print driver defaults to No Color Adjustment (Epson) or No Color Correction (Canon).
    See attached examples of both Epson 9600 driver version 8.19 and Canon iPF driver version 2.14.
    Epson can and has definitely gotten it right with their latest drivers.
    Canon on the other hand uses a special case file (AppColorMatchingInfo.xml) which list the applications that use Apple's new printing path. New application like Photoshop CS5 will need to be added to this file or the driver will default to color management when application manages color is chosen which results in double profiling.
    I see nothing that indicates to me that neither Apple or Adobe have problems or bugs in this printflow. Only drivers (and old drivers) that are not written correctly for Apple's new printing path seem to have these problems with double profiling. That being said, do I agree with Apple's approach regarding the new print path? NO. It appear to be an attempt to idiot proof printing using application manages color printing, although it is claimed to be necessary for 64-bit applications. I personally would prefer to use the old print path (like still available in Indesign) where all options are available in the driver regardless of what CM setting I choose in the application print dialog. But it is what it is.

  • LR 2.3 applies a green tint to RAW image AFTER making adjustments

    Hi all,
    Thanks for having this great forum, it looks like there is some great information here. I clicked around the LR threads and the FAQ but I haven't found anything applying particularly to my issue/question, though, and I'm hoping some of you can help me understand what is going on. .
    I have read about LR changing the colorcast on import, however in my case the images look fine after importing and processing. When I click BACK to an image that I have already processed, I am seeing LR 2.3 apply a green tint to it, and I have no idea why.
    What I am doing:
    -Import Canon RAW files into LR collection (images look fine, no abnormal colorcast)
    Develop tab:
    -I can click around the collection and view the images without any colors changing
    -Process an image to my heart's content (image color still looks fine)
    -Click to the next image and process the next one
    -Mouse-over on the previously processed image on the bottom filmstrip, and preview shows up on the Navigator pane (preview looks as the image was edited previously)
    -if I click to a previously processed image in the filmstrip, it will load into the center pane
         -while the processed image loads here, the green tint gets applied to the image
    -Color tint/green saturation has not moved from its previous position (even if it was moved during initial processing)
    -In order to correct it, I either have to adjust the color tint slider about 20 points away from green, or dial down the green saturation to compensate.
    Once I re-correct the image, I can click back to it again, and the mysterious green tint will no longer re-apply itself on this image.
    This happens to most if not all of the images in the collection. I have only processed one other RAW collection in LR, but I did not have this issue.
    I dont know what exactly is being changed to result in this green tint applying on its own, so I'm not sure if the adjustments I'm making are correcting it.fully.
    I hope I'm detailed enough in explaining what I'm seeing, and that it makes some kind of sense.
    Does anyone know what is going on here?
    Thank you!

    Hi John, thanks for the reply.
    Thanks, I'll look into the preferences in LR, although everything has remained mostly in its default settings. I've loaded JPG collections without seeing this either.
    Would monitor profiles matter in my case? I ask because I am simply clicking back to a previous picture in the strip. When I leave the picture it looks fine, and returning to it shows that image but with the green tint. I haven't gotten to the point of exporting/converting the image, or anything further.
    Some more information if it helps:
    Using MS Vista
    Using Canon Rebel XTi 400D
    I copy only the raw files from the memory card to a folder, and then point the LR Import to that folder.
    I will try replicating the issue on another computer in hopes to narrow it down. I am baffled.

  • Why do my PRO-100 black and white prints have a color tint?

    I am printing on the PIXMA Pro-100 printer and sometimes, for no apparent reason (?), my black and white prints will have a color tint (usually a "redish brown"), and then when printing again... same print, same settings... the same print will be fine, neutral with no tint at all.
    Any ideas why?
    Also (maybe related?) I don't understand why the Photo-Cyan and Magenta ink cartridges are being depleted when I am NOT printing color, but only Black and White.  Am I missing something?  When setting up for printing I always make sure the "Black and White Print" feature is selected in the settings dialog "Quick Setup".  Doesn't this insure that only the black and grey inks are used as long as I am not "toning"?  In other words... if ONLY the black and grey inks are used, isn't the print supposed to be a neutral black and white print? Again... am I missing something?
    FYI:
    I am printing on Canon Pro Luster and Plus Semi-Gloss papers.
    Under "Options - Color Management" I have selected:
    (color handling) Photoshop Elements Manages Colors
    (image space) Adobe RGB (1998)
    (printer profile) Canon PRO-100 <LU> 1/2 Photo Paper Pro Luster
    (rendering intent) Perceptual
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    It looks like you have the settings pretty close.  But the fact is all printers use all their cartridges to print B&W.
     Whoa, why?
    Yes it is true and the reason is this.  B&W consists of 256 shades of gray. From totaly black which is 0 to white which is 256.
    If you have just one, two or three cartridges to make 256 different blacks and grays all the way to white, it simply isn't possibile.
    The ony thing a printer can do is, amount of ink and how long.  So it makes up for this by using all it's cartridges.  However, in Canon it seems like the Pro-100 tints show up more than it should.  There are dedicated B&W printers but they are designed differently to accomplish true B&W.
    The tint will be different on different papers.  You can experiment to find the paper that does best for you.  Try a more gloss type paper and see if you like the B&W.  You can try Red River papers, too.  They will assist you in picking a good B&W paper.
    You can also experiment with filters in PSE.  Adding a little blue may help.  Just give it a try.
    But the bottom line is you are no doing anything wrong.  It is just the charchter of the beast.

  • Is it possible to import color tints and gradients in AI5?

    I've got a few hundred illustrations to import from FreeHand and convert from black-only art to 4-color process. I've developed a palette of four basic colors, and I want to create and apply selected tints of them (usually 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%). I also have a gradient that fades from my background color tint to white.
    I built a master file of all these global CMYK colors and their tints applied to boxes as well as my gradient and a handful of graphic and paragraph styles. As a quick method of importing these, I just selected all my sample objects, then copied and pasted them into my convert ex-FH file.
    The master colors came in, as did the the graphic and paragraphic styles, but none of the tints or the gradient.
    What am I missing? Please don't tell me I have to recreate all these tint swatches by hand for every document.
    Thanks for any help you can provide to an Illustrator newbie.

    The ASE export worked fine. The tints are all there, in spite of the warning. I can't see any difference in the behavior of the two types of export.
    Here's more information, as I swithced to working on my laptop at home:
    I placed my ASE library in the art folder of this textbook project, rather than in the default location, so it would be synced with all my other work on this job and not be left behind on my work machine. That worked fine. Also, as I mentioned the ASE library, when opened in Illustrator, does in fact contain all my tints. If I want to put them all into a document's Swatches, though, I can't use the command from the flyout menu "Add to Swatches." Oh, no, that would be what I actually want and what I would expect. All that does is add the four global colors; it ignores all the tints. Instead, I have to select all the colors and tints and DRAG them to the Swatches panel. Fine. Whatever.
    Anyway, in case my earlier allusion to a Colors & Styles panel confused people, it confused me too, today when I went to look for that under the Windows menu to turn it on. Turns out it was the name of the file where I built all my master colors and graphic styles, and hence became the default name of the ASE library I exported. Open that Libary, get a floating panel named Colors & Styles. Simple.
    I'm slowing catching on...

  • Want to change ALL photos in finished project from 'Tint' to 'Color Tint'

    Is there an easier way to change all photos that have a 'tint' effect to another effect without having to manually go into each image?
    I have a nearly finished 90 min doc that has a plethera of stills that I have added a 'Tint' from Image Control effect. However I have found that in many of my dissolves there seems to be some green frames thrown in the mix, (ONLY within the dissolve?) Anyhow, I found a work-around:
    By changing the original tint effect from dropdown----Effects; Video Filters; Image Control; Tint
    to
    Effects; Video Filters; Quicktime; Color Tint.
    For whatever reason, this corrects my random 'green frame' action.
    So does anyone know if there is some kind of batch edit that I can do, that recognizes all the images w/ Tint and change it to Color Tint in felt swoop?
    If not in FCP 5.1.2, maybe in 6?
    Thanks,
    Zack

    hi,
    boring but you can add the effect to the first still. Then apple -C it. Then select all the clips you want to change (apple-click will select no contigous clips) then select Remove Attributes from the edit menu. Select the Filters checkbox. Then select Paste Attributes from the edit menu. Select filters again and you're done.
    hope this helps

  • Bad color after exporting in iMovie 11

    I just got a Macbook Air (mid 2012 model) mainly for iMovie and I have to say I'm disappointed with the export quality.
    I tried the standard export option and that results in a low bitrate washed out(color) video.
    I tried just about every other option in the 'export with quicktime' including increasing the saturation using the filter menu.
    But every option results in a video that has really bad color It's messed up and has a 'blackish' look. WHat I mean is that red lips look a little brownish pink, colors and blacks are darkened, they lack the shine the original vid had.
    In iMovie, everything looks great. Can somebody please help me out?
    The animation codec resulted in a 16gb file for a 3min vid but the colors were normal. But when I played it back in Windows 7, the colors were messsed up again.
    Can someone please tell me the settings (when exporting in iMovie) for the best quality when played back on a PC?

    Fortunately you didn't do anything wrong. Unfortunately iMovie is not geared towards import and editing of MiniDV video the way it used to be.
    DV video shot on a MiniDV camera has lines of video 'interlaced' with one another. So you half the video lines at any one time and your brain combines them up into a smooth looking image. Ever since iMovie '08 came out including later versions ('09,'11), on importing the DV/MiniDV format or any video with interlaced lines of video iMovie drops, or deletes 1 whole set of scanlines. That means 1/2 of the video signal is discarded on importing it into iMovie.Then it attempts to 'regenerate' the missing video by 'doubling up' the video lines that still exist. Unfortunately the side effect of this process is quality visually is degraded, suffers and people are unhappy. The benefit to iMovie, the Macintosh and Apple is it's easier to 'playback' and preview the video as you skim it on the timeline. And it works on even the less expensive, less powerful macintoshes available on the market. You don't need the most expensive powerful Mac Pro to get good performance out of iMovie now. So that's the compromise and trade-off working with interlaced video on any version of iMovie made since roughly 2007. Prior versions of iMovie like iMovie HD 6 were very tailored to MiniDV camera video and were able to maintain the interlaced video data by design.

    Got help fixing my youtube problem, now that is working.  In the process of making the fix, lost my aol set up. Re installed it, but cannot access the icon. How do i get my AOL back?

    If it's an application, it should be in the Applications folder. If in doubt, double click on the hardrive icon to open it up, then press Command+F (find) and in the window that comes up for what you want to find, type in AOL and it should appear. You can either drag it to the Dock for easy access or make an alias of that, and drag that alias to the Dock. Oh, and just so's you know, this forum is for Desktop macs only. We may be able to answer your question about a MacBook Pro. Same kind of animal, but different breeds.

  • Need help with color tints not finding t-slider can you help?

    can someone help i'm going bonkers trying to get the tints and colors working
    i checked the online help on how to make a color tint.
    but the solution tells me if i don't have the "t-slider" make sure the color is checked
    as global then go to show options
    but this is not helping. i still don't see what i need to make a tint.
    i really wish the way to make this work was more like indesign.
    please help.

    You need to make the color a swatch first. Then double click the swatch and check the Global box.

  • Satellite M115-S1061 - display issue - bad colors

    According to my daughter, her Satellite laptop running XP-SP2 suddenly went dim. At first I thought it might be the backlight inverter so I obtained a replacement but changing that failed to make any improvement.
    Experimenting with the display settings it became apparent that many of the display colors were not what they should have been and I began to think something had happened to the LCD or its cabling causing the loss of one of the primary colors i.e.: blue however, upon rebooting I observed plenty of blue from the diplay until XP fully booted.
    While changing themes and setting in an attempt to obtain a mere usable display, it became increasingly obvious that there is some type of video inversion going on.
    That said, I can find no setting that would could cause this or any similar report of this malady. I have swept for any virus and gone back several restore points with no findings or imprivement.
    The driver has not been updated so there is no ability to rollback to an earlier iteration and a search for an update indicates the current dirver is the latest.
    Also, as noted, during initial boot-up the display appears to be of relatively normal brightness and the colors are as they should be...
    It is not until the XP desktop launches that things go astray.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as school is back in session and I either get this resolved and get a new laptop!
    TIA,
    Bob

    Hi
    > Also, as noted, during initial boot-up the display appears to be of relatively normal brightness and the colors are as they should be... It is not until the XP desktop launches that things go astray.
    According to your description I believe that this might be a graphic card problem.
    I would really recommend connecting an second, external display/monitor to this notebook to check if the same bad colors would be visible on the external monitor.
    If the same bad colors would appear at the same time on the second monitor then the issue could be really related to a bad GPU chip
    In such case a replacement (motherboard) would be necessary

    I've tried to export my vector work from Flash to

    It is a shame that Flash doesn't provide a correct export

    Does somebody know a better way or software to export

  • My black and white printing has a color tint to it. How do I change this?

    It seems like whenever I print anything that is supposed to be just black and white, such as a word document, the black is not a true black--it has a colored tint. I originally thought this was a printer issue and contacted tech support for the printer, but they identified it as a computer issue once we hooked up multiple printers to the iMac and the same thing kept happening. There is no setting I can find in the computer to change this because I don't know what its called. Any help would be appreciated!

    I had the canon mp180. I have the HP psc 1209 now.  I haven't seen this problem with 10.4.11.
    Curiously, I heard of this problem with some Ubuntu drivers. Turned you their conversion program GhostPrint could only convert to either black or color. The color convert resulted in grey black. It was with an HP printer.  Ubuntu & Mac OS X share some of the same print technology.
    I see you have iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.9).  I suggest you upgrade to 10.4.11.  Pick one of the combo updates referenced on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
    Regardless of the print problem, you should upgrade. Do you have wireless, if so you will need to reconfigure.
