Bars on dock applications

I noticed bars over the trash icon in the dock. When I emptied the trash the bars disappeared. I now have bars over my Opera icon and do not know why they are there or how to remove them. The program still runs, however. Can anyone please advise me on this issue? Thanks.

Does this article explain the bars?

I've encountered a bug and I haven't noticed messages from

If you use an Application Control Bar, set it's dock property

    Hi Harry (and others),
I have seen similar behavior. It seems like the client side rendering for some reason has a hard time processing the collection model wrapping the ArrayList in this particular case. The table renders empty. After sorting in ascending order, the rows are all back (visible) again.
Is anyone aware of issues with the rich table based directly on ArrayList (in combination with a changing set of values and/or sorting)? (seems like a corner case but is still not uncommon). Is there any indication that wrapping the ArrayList in a CollectionModel ourselves might be required?
Harry: do you know whether this issue is introduced with PS3 (11.1.1.4) or already existed in previous releases?
    kind regards,
    Lucas

  • How to get a scroll bar to the applications popup by default?

How to get a scroll bar to the applications popup by default when clicked the applications folder from the dock? If I have so many applications that they do not fit in the default area, I have to find out myselft that I have to scroll the content before the scroll bar appears. This leads to "where is my missing applications questions" by the novice users with Mountain Lion.

System Preferences > General > Show scroll bars.
Click the button by the side of "Always".
    Best.

  • Can't change back to white menu bar and dock

When I uncheck the box, it just stays with the dark menu bar and dock.
How can i make it change again? I'm running the latest version of Yosemite 10.10.2

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application System Preferences.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • How to hide the menu bar and Dock

Howto hide the menu bar and Dock on Mac, I found a tutorial that addfunctions esto info.plist this
    <key> LSUIPresentationMode </ key>
    <integer> 4 </ integer>
But does not work  which you know another way to do this?

I have played with 'LSUIPresentationMode' in the past - I may be wrong but I think a value of "1" (and "2" for that matter) only really works in combination with 'LSUIElement' set to a string value of "1". The 'LSUIElement' property of course does away with the application's own menu items so isn't ideal for most applications and since you mentioned using "1" instead of "4", I assume you want your menu items visible all the time.

  • Missing desktop icons, menu bar and dock

I have a my G5 Dual 2.7 Ghz, I am currently using Tiger 10.4.10. As of yesterday it had been running great, but this morning I turned it on and logged in as usual. The problem is it the computer only shows my desktop image, but no menu bar, icons, dock, etc..
I have re started it 3 times with no luck. Thank you so much before hand for any input that might be helpful

Have you tried a bit of basic maintenance?
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

    and here:

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • No Menu Bar, No Dock, No way to Safe Boot or Recover

I've searched the forums (and the web) and couldn't find a sitaution just like this one, tho a few have been close.
I re-started my Mac Pro yesterday in hopes of finishing up a Logic Pro project, but upon restart my screen had no Menu Bar, no Dock, and had returned to the default desktop pic. Also, it appears the screen resolution changed as my two start-up apps (Things and Evernote) were pushed off the screen, with only a corner of them visible on the left side (I could grab them and pull them into view, but even then their window sizes had changed from what they usually are). I'm running a 2008 MacPro with 10.8.4 and 8 GBs of RAM, 4 internal hard drives (one system, one Time Machine Backup, one Music Project drive, and one (outdated) Clone). An Apogee Duet (v1, Firewire) is connected.
I opened a new Finder window (Cmd+N) and was able to see that my data was still there and could even launch the few apps I tried, tho their windows - like Things & Evernote - were off to the left side of the screen.
I searched these forums and the web for a solution and decided to try booting in Safe Mode. However, the screen that appeared was just a blank version of the grey fabric background like you see in Dashboard, and nothing else ever appeared after letting it sit for 20 minutes. So I tried booting in Recovery Mode, but once I selected the Recover Volume as my start-up, I once again found myself staring at the blank grey fabric screen for another 20 minutes.
Frustrated, I shut down the computer for about half an hour, and when I re-started it all was fine. I repaired Permissions and ran ClamXav just to test, but no problems were found. After working on it most of the afternoon without incident, I shut it off for the night. However, this morning when I started up, I get the same No Dock, No Menu Bar, default Desktop situation.
Any thoughts on what to do? I realize it may be time for a new computer, but I'd like to at least be able to finish this project I'm working on!

I would love to see your real full (sans ser no) System Profile
You don't mention what you are using. If not the ATI 5770 or above, get one.
Replace the graphic card likely even as troubleshooting
    reset SMC
Make a current clone or two
Boot off clone or setup a clean new emergency system for maintenance
    Safe Boot
    Recovery Mode
Start a new 2nd TimeMachine (I swap out and use one about once a month for insurance)
Never used it and not endoring spending or using but TechTool Pro 7 does more testing
The fewer background goodies the better but monitoring temps, fans, memory are useful.
    Temperature Monitor, SmcFanControl 2.4+
I dont' think you need to be using ClamXav
A system performs better with less
New computer? maybe a new disk drive. Maybe more or swap out some or all FBDIMMs. Maybe just a clean system. Worse case, you updated from SL to Lion/ML and didn't do a clean break.
Early 2008 3,1 that you have have been more tempermental for a goodly number of users.

  • How to disable menu bar and dock when playing a full screen game? Like sims 4

i play sims 4 on my MacBook pro and if I go to close to the bottom of the screen or the top the menu bar or dock pops up I was wondering if there is A program or a setting I can use to disable that while in something full screen or gaming

The game itself should already have the option for full screen. But you can go to system preferences dock and check the hid dock option. Then you would have to go to the very edge of the screen to get the dock to reappear.

  • Quit all open dock applications at once?

Is there a way to quit all open dock applications at once? I find it time-consuming to go in and quit applications I have used in the dock one at a time.
May be I don't understand why they even stay open after I quit what I was doing with them? Is it possible to set it up that way? I find it is not very Mac-like
to have to go in and quit 5 or 6 items in the dock one at a time. Can you please shed some light on this for me? Thank you for your time and patience.

No, but there is an alternative.
Press command+tab to show the application switcher. While keeping the command key held down, you can press q on a selected application to quit it. The only one you can't quit is the Finder (as this is the application that shows you your Desktop).

  • Menu bars for all applications are unusable

I have a new MacBook that was running Tiger when I opened up the box. I noticed that sometimes the Finder menu bar failed to respond when the cursor was passed over it or any item in it was clicked on (normally I'd expect to see the menu items drop down). I updated to OS to Leopard but although the menus worked for a bit, now they're acting up again. Oddly, the items to the right of the bar (Airport, Bluetooth, etc.) still work.
I looked through the threads and one of them suggested using the Disk Utility to repair permissions and zapping the PRAM, which I did. The logging from the repair didn't give up much -- just the following for a bunch of languages:
ACL found but not expected on "System/Library/User Template/English.lproj/Desktop".
Anyone think of anything that might be causing this? Maybe a software conflict with something I migrated over from the previous iBook?

    Steps taken:
    (1) slaved the iBook to the MacBook and migrated the configuration from the old to the new notebook. Both the iBook and the MacBook were at that time running Tiger -- the iBook has a 30GB stock hard drive in it and other than Office X and some shareware was relatively clean. The migration had one hiccup - I was using an olde version of iPhoto and when I opened it I was prompted to update the thumbnails in my picture library. This essentially froze the application when the progress bar was about a quarter done. In the end I fixed that.
When I noticed the problem with the menu bars (which by the way appear to be somewhat translucent), I tried rebooting a couple of times. At this point, the problem was random and appeared only to affect the Finder Menu bar. So a reboot had the effect of seeming like it was fixing it. When it didn't go away, I was looking arounf and hit About This Mac and discovered Leopard was uninstalled. I opened the software box and found the install disk, so I ran it. Again, the problem appeared to go away.
I didn't use the MacBook for about a week, maybe ten days, and thenlast night I noticed that the problem affected all menu bars regardless of application.Tried rebooting. No go. Tried reparing permissions - no problems found. Zapped he PRAM three or four times. No workee.
    That's where I'm at now.
I have Disk Warrior and Drive Genius, but I haven't tried them yet because (a) I thought this miht be a simple issue resolvasble on the threads, and (b) I bought them when I was running 10.3 on G3s and G4s respectively, and wasn't sure they were Leopard or Intel compatible.

  • Dock application gets killed itself on Lion, how to debug this issue?

Hi, Dock application gets killed itself and it dissappears and relaunches itself after for few seconds, This is happening for every 5 min or so. it is quite annoying problem. how to debug this issue? any help?

When I look the system logs - there is an exception each time I try to run the application or open a window:
9/5/09 10:33:12 PM Linear[23545] Cannot create BOOL from object <Regression: 0x1461f0> of class Regression

  • Why is the Dock application consuming CPU?

I got a new MacBook Pro 15" retina display, migrated my data from my old mac, and now the Dock application is consuming a ton of CPU on the system.
I have found many other threads in these forums, many of them quite old. They typically suggest a problem with VMWare fusion or Parallels, neither of which I have on my system. They also suggest removing the com.apple.dock.plist file and killing the application, which did not help, nor did removing all applications from the dock and quitting all other applications.
What else can I do to try and fix this problem?

Have you tried restarting the computer? Also,
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
You can also kill the Dock process using Activity Monitor.

  • Controlling Menu Bars of Windows Applications like IE and Editor with LabVIEW 6

    Hi everybody !
I'm trying to develop a vi (LabVIEW 6) which controls menu bars in
Windows Applications (IE, Editor, etc.) like "File-Save As..." or
"View-Source...". I'm pretty sure I've got to use the ActiveX
possibilities in LabVIEW, but I haven't been succesful. Any comments
    will help.
    Thanks

You can use Win32 API to simulate a key-press (e.g. ctrl-S for Save)
for IE or any window applications, as long as the application has
short cut for menu items, and active.
You can use external code (VC, VB, dephi, etc..) to build DLL, CIN, or
    ActiveX, call them in LabVIEW.
    I made "Send Keys.vi" in G Toolbox.
If the menu item doesn't has a shortcut, you can send a message (use
spy tool to find out) to the application.
