Base qty UOM for BOMs

Hi
I am creating a BOM for material M1 with a component C1. For M1 I cannot change the base qty unit of measure. It defaults to the base unit of measure as defined in the Material Master of M1. Is there a way I can use a alternate UOM for M1 in the BOM?
thanks a lot

Dear Mr.John,
The Unit of measure given in material master will be taken while creation of BOM.
Even if u have manitained some unit of Issue in the material master for the same material, this wont be considered by the system.
So if you want to change the unit of measure,it can be done only in material master.
But if there exists stock or some open order quntity u can't change the unit of measure and the system throws you an error message.
For Eg:
The base unit of measure cannot be changed; choose "Display errors"
Message no. M3189
Diagnosis
You wanted to change the base unit of measure. However, you can do so only under certain circumstances, including the following:
• If there are no stocks of the material in the current period and in the previous period
If there are stocks in the previous period, you can clear them as follows:
a) Post the stock in the previous period to the current period (for example, using movement type 561) so that the stock for the previous period is the same as the stock for the current period.
b) Clear the stock with the posting date in the previous period (for example, using movement type 562).
• If no purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements exist for the material
Procedure
Choose Display errors to see why you cannot change the base unit of measure for this material.
The pushbutton Display errors appears only in dialog mode, not in data transfer or in mass maintenance. If this message appears in data transfer or in mass maintenance, and you want to know why the base unit of measure cannot be changed, access the material in dialog mode using the relevant transaction below, try to change the base unit of measure as required, and then choose Display errors:
If I'm wrong please correct me Mr.Nandha.
Reward points and close the thread.

• UOM for BOM

Hi All
we maintain 2 different unit of measure in material master data. Default UOM is PC and another is KG where 1 PC = 1 KG. While creating BOM CS01 for material in component material system getting default UOM PC if we try to enter KG is not accepting. pleae guide
thanks

In MM02 purchasing view activate variable order unit
and you have to maintain unit of issue in General storage data1
if you maintain unit of issue this will come automatically while creating BOM....

• How to maintain decimal places in BOM Qty & what is the essence of base qty

Hello PP members
How to maintain decimal places in BOM Qty & what is the essence of base quantity in BOM ?
Thank You

ur first question is not understood, You can have maximum of 3 decimals in BOM item qty.
Base qty is the qty which is refered to all the BOM items.
example -
Product X, base qty 1
Raw material 1 - componen t qty= 1
Raw material 2 - Component qty= 5
This means To produce Product with qty1, it needs raw material 1 qty 1 and raw material 2 qty 5.
This means To produce Product with qty10, it needs raw material 1 qty 10 and raw material 2 qty 50.
This is the meaning of Base qty..it is the referece qty refered to all the components.
About the decimal places
let us say  example 2
To produce Product with qty1, it needs raw material 1 qty 1 and raw material 2 qty .0001.
When you enter this in SAP for the raw materialm 2 system will give error message that you need to enter the qty with maximum 3 decimal places, hence you need to enter as below
Product with qty10, it needs raw material 1 qty 10 and raw material 2 qty .001.
This is how you need to adjsut the base qty and component qty with decimalplaces moer than 3,
pl come back

• Report for bom wise target and actual cost as well as qty at line item

Dear Experts,
Is there any standard tcode for bom wise target and actual cost as well as qty at line item level for the month.
there is one tcode s_alr_87013127 but user has to double click in order to get line item details.
I want to see line item wise breakup/bom wise target and cost cost as well as qty.
Thanks in advance.

• BOM header qty change if BOM line item qty delivered more in previous deliv

Dear team
BOM is as follows:
Finished product
Material1 100 Units
Material2 100 Units
Lets say i create a sales order with 2 units of finished products
then my sales order will look like:
Finished Product 2 units
Material1 100 Units
Material2 100 Units
Now i am trying to create a delivery for 1 unit of finished product
Finished Product 1 units
Material1 150 Units
Material2 100 Units
Here i change the Material1 quantity from 100 to 150 Units and create delivery.
Now i am creating a second delivery
In the delivery order i am getting as:
Finished Product 0.5 Units
Material1 50 Units
materail2 50 Units
But i want
Finished Product 1 units (as my finished product open quantity is 1M3)
Material1 50 Units
material2 100 units
Can this be achieved. Because of more despatch of BOM line items my header BOM item should not change. It should be same as my open quantity in delivery.

Hi,
It depends upon how u are maintaining the BOM. The components calculated is based on the BOM base qty.

• Different UoM for Condition Type in Pricing

Hi All
I have query My client does the Sales of Material in different UoM & also charges for Packing with Different UoM.
Is it possible to maintian differnt UoM. For eg If I sale 1 qty for Rs. 100 I want ot charge for Packing Boxes which we will be 2 Qty of Rs. 50 Each i,e the Total Should be Rs.100 + 100 (100 x 2).
During Pricing I get the Price of Box dependent on the Sales Quantiy i.e 1 Pc. Can anyone guide me.

Hi,
With regards to inventory management, some features in SAP Mobile Direct Store Delivery (MDSD) are the same as in the backend system whereas others are different.
Inventory mgt supports multiple units of measure (UoMs). Sales representatives can choose to change UoMs when processing deliveries and orders.
Higher-than-base UoMs
If transactions are entered in UoMs that are higher than the base UoM, the quantities are converted to base UoMs.
Sub-base units of measure
Sub-base UoMs are a feature that is specific to Direct Store Delivery. A sub-base UoM is defined as a UoM that is a fraction of the base UoM.
Sub-base UoMs correspond to fractional quantities that are used in other SAP applications. However, instead of 1 bottle being represented as 0.04167 cases, MDSD uses sub-base UoMs. Materials can have 0 or 1 sub-base UoMs.
The base UoM for a 12-pack of beer bottles is the “case”. Sales representatives typically perform transactions involving whole cases. However, there are occasions when individual bottles are delivered.
On-truck stock
The mobile application has balances of on-truck stock levels at all times. The initial stock level is created from the confirmed check-out quantities. When check-in is performed, the current stock levels are used as planned check-in quantities.
Quantities are automatically updated when deliveries are confirmed or cancelled. Outbound deliveries subtract stock, whereas returns add stock. On-truck quantities are also updated immediately with inventory adjustments.
Quantities are tracked using a combination of material, unit of measure, and stock type. If a material has a sub-base UoM, separate inventory records are maintained for the base and the sub-base UoMs.
There are two types of stock: normal stock and damaged/blocked stock. All checked-out stock is assumed to be of type “normal”. Materials that are returned can be posted to normal or to damaged stock.
Empties
Untied empties are treated as individual materials and, consequently, from an inventory management perspective, are considered ordinary materials. Tied empties are not tracked in inventory management.
Check-out
Check-out is the process that confirms the stock that has been loaded onto the truck. The planned check-out balances are downloaded to the mobile device. The sales representative changes the actual quantities as needed, and then confirms any discrepancies. Usually, a supervisor validates the data.
Validation can be password-protected.
Check-in
Check-in is performed similarly to check-out. Planned check-in quantities are generated from on-truck stock quantities. The sales representative adjusts quantities as needed, and any discrepancies are validated.
Inventory adjustments
Between check-out and check-in, sales representative can make inventory adjustments. These adjustments are used to keep the on-truck stock inventory accurate. For example, if a case of beer is dropped and lost, it needs to be deducted from inventory so that the application does not treat it as available for sale.
Sales representatives is accountable for all adjustments. From both a business and a technical perspective, inventory adjustments are adjustments to checked-out and checked-in quantities. Inventory adjustments result in additional check-in/check-out items on separate adjustment check-out/check-in headers. Negative adjustments mean that a sales representative has checked in less than planned and positive adjustments mean that he has checked out more than planned.

Siddharth

• Alternate UOM for condition type

Dear All,
My client requirement is to give the different unit for the charges(Cutting charge, machining charges) applicable on the material which is being ordered in the PO.
For example :
In a PO of the steel plate (order unit is in EA), vendor takes the cutting charges on the basis of UOM "squre inch".
and for machining charges on that steel plate , it takes on the basis of UOM " number of hours" of machine worked on that particular plate.
so for the above 2 charges I have created 2-2 different condition types , with the Calculation type of "B"-Fixed amount and "C"- qty based in each case.
and I am unable to give the condition values as per the client requirement .
I thought of taking use of Altr condition value routine in the pricing procudure , but unable to think a logic.
Please help!!!
Thanks & Regards
NC

In the PO condition, you can put different price per unit of measure for different condition type. This UOM can be different than Base unit of measure. However you have to put conversion between the two UOM in material master Basic Data 1 field.
Pl try this & revert back, if any further query.

• SAP PP: Consumables for BOM

Dear PP experts,
Good day to you all.
A client has got one scenario.
Its a discrete manufacturing company. They want to prepare a material BOM. Also it pertains consumables like WELDING RODS, LPG GAS for cutting etc etc.
For ex:
A detail material list is maintained in BOM for Semi finished goods/Finished Goods and Work centers for the SFG/FG are let say Drilling, Welding, Cutting etc etc.
When the Raw material goes for Cutting operation it requires LPG GAS and the same shall be WELDED (joined with welding process let say it requires TWO NOS welding rods) with the another cutting material for which it requires WELDING RODS.
Can anyone let me know how to and where to give all the consumables in BOM to do the process.
Rgds,
VKUMAR A

Hi
It depends upon the value and the requirement, if you can segregate the total consumption of LPG and other consumables on the base qty of various SFG/FG like for producing 1 SFG, this much LPG and other consumables are required then you can assign in BOM, Also value wise it should be like so that it wont give error while executing the SCE.
As Standard practice since we cannot pragmatically calculate the quantities of consumable per production then it should be issue to production cost center.

Anupam Sharma

• Report for BOM materials

Dear Experts,
i have scenario which i need to capture but do not have any standard report and for that reason i am going in for Z development of the reports. please guide me so as to which field to be pulled to get the desired output.
Scenario:
We create Purchase order with a version control
1. First version has the data which act as baseline and we want to compare rest of the versions as variance
2. If the line item in PO is a subcontracting material with L- then the subcomponents will be present as a BOM
3. when i ammend the PO for the Qty the BOM items also get ammended but do not reflect in the version control - display changes
4. I want to capture the PO with each line item against which there is qty change and also the material BOM change due to qty change.
Is there any table from which i capture the data.
Pl. help me out it would be of great help
Thanks & Regards,

Hi
the following tables might be useful
MAST
STKO - Header Table of BOM

• Error Message while entering alternate UOM in BOM, despite being maintained

Hello PP Angels,
I wish for a solution for this issue.
When I am creating a BOM,
while entering the line item, with a material number,
when I enter the UOM for the material, which is the alternate UOM maintained in the material master (already)
I am still getting this error message
"Unit of measure DKG not supported for material XXXXX in plant XXXX"
Wishing for a solution at the earliest.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, but my issue is not yet solved.
I have checked that earlier
It works that way
But my issue is i have data ( in a different server), such that
the bom is accepting a UOM that is defined in the Alternate UOM and not maintained as the Unit of Issue.
I am trying to replicate the same thing here but when I add an alternate UOM, which is not in Unit of Issue, then error message is thrown while bom creation.
Are any configs to be checked
Awaiting more responses.
Thanks

• Material type for BOM

i want to know which material type can i use for creatig BOM first level

Hi ,
you can set it following IMG ; and standart customizing gives you some idea about your question
Production -- Basic Data -- Bill of Material --General Data -- Define Material Types Allowed for BOM Header

• ISO UoM vs USA UoM for SO and Transfer Order

Hi to All,
I've an issue that I must resolve urgently!!! So, I hope in your precious advices.
Case: Customer Model: Holding with european company codes and americans ones.
The corporate is an Italian Company. So, Materials Master Data are created centrally at Italian Company; consequently the Base Unit of Measure in which stocks of the material are managed (Master Data: view Basic data 1) is expressed in ISO UoMs( Kg, dm3....).
I have the necessity to use also american UoMs so I've created in Additional Data -> Unit of Measure alternative TU and CU using USA UoMs for the dimensions (lb, "3....) in corrispondence to europeanTU and CU.
I can use them on Sales Order, and Transfer Order with type ZT02 STO Cross Company but I can't use them for ZT01 STO from APS: Transfer order intra- company becouse as default the Base Unit of Measure is used.
Does it exist a way to convert the Base Unit of Measure expressed in ISO UoMs to USA UoMs for dimensions without modyfing the Base Unit of Measure set in Master Data: view Basic data 1?
Thanks in advance
Roberta

Hi,
If you want to create any transaction with only alternative unit of measure you don't active variable active unit of measure in purchasing view of material master. In this field take not active.
Variable Active unit:
When you required to create any transaction with both unit of measure base unit and alternetive unit of measure you active it and if you want to create transaction with only alternative unit you don't active it.
NOTE: - In case of Purchase order system take order unit of measure(In Purchasing view) and for stock transfer order take unit of issue(Plant Data1) - If variable active unit is off.

• Invenotry Valuation for BOM or regular items in standard cost

How SAP defines Inventory Valuation for BOM (Parent, Child) with different Inventory types? If Parent Items is Inventory and Sales only but Child Items are Inventory and Purchase Items then the inventory value will base on each Item Cost or....
When you use Inventory Good Receipt the Item Cost grayed out that forced you to use Unit Price in Inventory Master Data file for this transaction and reflected to the Inventory Valuation Report. Is this the way for "Standard Cost" method?
For Standard Cost method, the Item Cost will be used from regular SO, Delivery and Invoice only?

Inventory value will be base on each Item Cost when you use Standard Cost method. It will apply to all marketing and inventory document.
As for BOMs, they are only templates. You could assign any price lists to them. Therefore, until the production order created, any cost of BOM would only be a reference.
Thanks,
Gordon

• Alternate UoM for Production

Dear All,
I have maintained alternate UoM for Production in material master work scheduling view.
The ratio is 1000 KG (Production Unit) : 1 EA (Base Unit). Before starting the production the weight estimate is 980 KG for a particular production order, but Base unit remains as 1EA. So in Production order the moment I make the Production amount as 980KG it is changing the Base unit quantity to 0.98 EA. I have different production orders where the ratio becomes different. Somewhere it might be 980Kg and somewhere it becomes 1020KG.
I cannot change the UoM in material master everytime. Please suggest how to resolve this.
Thanks
Geravine

Hi!,
For this scenario you need to implement batch specific unit of measure where you can change the wieght of each produced batch while keeping the base unit value same. Here system will ask for conversion factor for the recieved batch at the time of GR. So you can store for example, one batch with relation 1 EA = 980 KG while the other as 1 EA = 990 KG.

Hi,
1. surely there is a mistake happening at your end.
2. System is robustic on this kind of transactions
Check the below items
1. if any scrap has been maintained at the assembly level for the header material in the material master
2. If any scrap has been maintained for the materail at the BOM item level.
3. check if the unit of measure is same and any relationship is maintained.
4. Also do re-xplode your CS11 and check if it works fine as per your expectation..if it is giving any issue in the production order , it should also give the same here..
kindly validate and let me knwo the feedbakc
