Basic Cube behaviour question

Hi Experts,
I know that this may seem like a basic question but I would like to know how the Cube behaves when there are 2 datasources updating into it.
Say I have the following fields:
1. Datasource 1 : COMPANY (A) --- COLOR (Blue) --- SALES QTY (50 pcs)
2. Datasource 2: COMPANY (A) --- SALES QTY (10 pcs)
If it updates 1 cube, I understand that it will be aggregated so that if you display the total sales qty of COMPANY A:
COMPANY (A) SALES QTY (60 pcs).
However, my question is that if in your report, you decide to add a drilldown to COLOR.
Will it show as 2 records? Where 1 record shows color as "BLANK"?
COMPANY (A) COLOR (Blue) Sales Qty (50 pcs)
COMPANY (A) COLOR (#) Sales Qty (10 pcs)
How to i make it appear as :
COMPANY (A) COLOR (BLUE) Sales Qty (60 pcs).
Which is basically what i am trying to summarize. The 2nd datasource is sort of like a HEADER information only that is why there is no color breakdown.
Please advise.
Thanks guys!

Hi Vijay,
Thanks. That's what I thought also.
However, how can you explain the case of the Standard 2LIS_13_VDITM and 2LIS_13_VDHDR datasources?
If I want to see in my Bex Report, say, the sales Qty of Billing documents with Address "ABC", it should show me:
Billing Document (from Header&Item) Address (from Header) Sales Qty (from Item)
A1111 ABC 25
Here, the Address characterisctic is not in DS1 but can still show the KF in DS2.
How does the cube behave? Can you help explain how the aggregation works in this case?
Thank you so much.
Regards,
Karen

• Query on BCS virtual cube is not using the aggregates on BCS basic cube

Hi all,
I have BCS Virtual cube which is linked to BCS Basic cube. I built aggregates on BCS Basic cube.
I created simple query on BCS basic cube and ran in debug mode of rsrt, it showed the aggregates on bcs basic cube. But when I created the same query on BCS vitual cube and ran it rsrt debug mode the query did not show any aggregates, that was strange.
So My questions is whether query built on virtual bcs can utilize the aggregates built BCS basic cube, if possible please let me knows the tweaks.
Thanks,
Raj.

1. Goto se37. Enter RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ and choose Display.
2. In line 82 (in a BW 3.5) there is a line that says:
CLEAR: e_t_data, e_end_of_data, e_aggregate, e_split_occurred.
Put the cursor in there and press the 'stop shield' or use CtrlShiftF12.
3. In the same mode open transaction RSRT and choose your query. Execute it. If you stop at the breakpoint, enter I_TH_SFC into one of the fields in the lower left area and press Enter. You should see a table with the characteristics you need in the system.
As I said I'm not quite sure if it works. I have access to a BCS system on monday. I'll try then to find out more.

• Converting Basic Cube to transactional

I have a very basic question on converting basic cube to transactional. I have set the transactional flags for entries (OBJVERS A & M) and executed the ABAP report SAP_CONVERT_TO_TRANSACTIONAL. The cube has been set to transactional. Now my problem is I am unable to get the context menu, which can convert the transactional cube back to basic. Any suggestion is eagerly awaited.

Hi,
The context menu should have the 'Switch transactional InfoCube ' option if the InfoCube is transactional. This will not allow you to convert the InfoCube back to a basic InfoCube but will allow you to toggle the InfoCube between 'Transactional InfoCube can be loaded with data, planning not allowed' and 'Transactional InfoCube can be planned, loading not allowed'.
These context menu options achieves the same functions as the function modules mentioned in the previous reply.
Kind regards,

• How to access basic cube data as part of update rule routine?

Dear colleagues:
I am developing a routine as part of the update rule to define a characteristic value to feed an infocube. However, I need to peek up a data that is available on another infoprovider, in this case a basic cube.
So far, I have done that by peeking up data form ODS as part of the update routine, but this is the first time I need to peek up a data from a basic cube.
Does that works the same way as ODS?
Best regards
Waldemar

Hi Krzysztof Konitz:
I have posted an inquire about getting that from the PSA. By mistake I have posted that once before your reply and another after that. Then I red you reply.
However, you replay solved the problem.

• Why to use a Basic Cube?

Hi All, I have a doubt,
If with a transactional infocube is possible to made the same things (and more) than with a basic cube, why not define always all the infocubes as transactional?
Tks for your apreciation

Hi SSap
Transactional InfoCubes can be filled with data using two different methods: Loading planned data via SEM or via BW Staging, where no planned data can be loaded. You have the option to convert a transactional Info Cube Select Convert Transactional InfoCube using the context menu in your transactional InfoCube in the InfoProvider tree. By default, the Transactional Cube Can Be Planned; Loading of Data Not Permitted is selected. The system then fills the cube using the SEM functions. Switch this setting to Transactional Cube Can Be Loaded With Data; Planning Not Permitted, if you want to fill the cube with data via BW Staging.
Transactional InfoCubes differ from Basic InfoCubes in their ability to support parallel write accesses. Basic InfoCubes are technically optimized for read accesses to the detriment of write accesses.
Use
Transactional InfoCubes are used in connection with the entry of planning data. The data from this kind of InfoCube is accessed transactionally, meaning data is written to the InfoCube (possibly by several users at the same time). Basic InfoCubes are not suitable for this. You should use Basic InfoCubes for read-only access (for example, when reading reference data).
transactional infocubes can be filled with data using two different methods: using the transaction of BW-BPS to enter planning data and using BW staging, whereas planning data then cannot be loaded simultaneously.
Anyway, the data from this kind of infocube is accessed transactionally, meaning data is written to the infocube (possibly by several users at the same time); basic infocubes are not suitable for this. I think this is the only proper use of this type of cube...
Hope your doubt is clear, and it help you
Atul
We have an option to switch the Tranasaction cube such as "Loding allowed and Planning not allowed" and "Planning allowed and loading not allowed".

• Basic Hyperion Workspace question

Is there any way to Drill-Down to data by double-clicking on the chart item in Hyperion Workspace? I can do this in Hyperion Reporting Studio.

hi all,Hi Neerav

• How to write data from Basic Cube to Transactional Cube

Hi experts,
My problem is the following: I have a Transactional Infocube (IC1) and a basic Infocube (IC2). They have both the same structure. IC2 is loaded with data and other data is keyed in IC1.
I would like to write data from IC2 to IC1 and eliminate data redundancy if there can be some.
Can anyone tell me how I can do that?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Yes , you have to create a multiplanning area ..
In the planning level , filter the value which you want to copy from basic to transactional cube .
Fields to be changed : Planning area and others as per your need..
Field for condition : if you want to copy data from 2006 then give calyear as field for condition.
Parameter group : give the value 'from' as basic cube 'to' as your transactional cube ..

• Can i overrite the data in basic cube.???

Hi,
Is it there any way to overrite the basic cube data???is it possible??or can i replace the old values by new values in basic cube.??
What i am doing here , reading the data from the basic cube(cube1) to BPS layouts and modifying the data in layout and saving the modified values into transactionl cube(cubtr1),sending the modified values from transactional cube to basic cube(cube1).in basic cube before modification i have the values 100 and after modification the values is 200,now i want to replace or overrite the data in basic cube (replace or overrite 100 by 200).
If any logic please can you share..
Thanks in Advance.

HI
Basically Basic cube will not allow the Over write functionality. what you do is just maintain the DSO in first layer and then you can load the data from DSO to second layer(cube). this can will solve your problem.

Chandra.

• Basic recording/feedback question

I'm recording basic vocals against accompaniment tracks using an APOGEE ONE and Audio-Technica 40 series AT8449 condenser mic. I use only headphones, no external speakers.
If I record with "monitoring" on I constantly battle feedback/distortion, especially on songs with a wide dynamic range. When the feedback protection kicks in the message indicates that I'm getting feedback through my external speakers (which I don't have), I can minimize the problem by turning "monitoring" off but I lose the reference vocal. I know I must be overlooking something very simple. Any help is appreciated.

• Basic PDF/SSL Question

Okay, I know this is a basic question, and I'm not sure if this is really where I should be posting it, but maybe someone out there has experience with this.
I have a PDF form sitting on a secure server. I have it set up to email the completed PDF back to our company when the user clicks the SUBMIT buttton. Whether or not the PDF is secure coming back to us would be dependent on the email server the user uses - not that the form sits in a secure area on our server or that the PDF is security settings are set, correct?
Any input appreciated.

• Basic wifi service question

basic wifi service question
A Windows-using friend of mine subscribes to a service from Verizon that is sort of like a cell phone for a computer - wifi service that you can access from theoretically anywhere, for something like $60 a month -
as far as I can determine, one CAN get this for Mac but ONLY if you have a 15 or 17 inch laptop with PC slots - unless I am missing something. It requires a special kyocera card.
Another company, T-Mobile, offers a similar service, but with no MAC access at all.
So my question is: is there a similar service, wi-fi access theoretically anywhere (or even just anywhere in New York City) ? Hopefully with just the regular mac airport card and not any additional special hardware?
Thanks!
Will

Hello WillFriedwald2
The kind of service your describing is probably a 3G and GPRS service.
Phone companies now offer mobile high speed connections using EDGE technology or GPRS2 and supply a 3G or GPRS PCMCIA card.
However some companies are now offering a package whereby you get high speed 3g and gprs and also wifi.
So to use this service on a laptop that has no PC card slot you need to get a 3G or GPRS2 phone that supports blue tooth then you can connect your laptop to the phone over bluetooth and therefore access high speed internet.
But if you had a desktop mac such as a G5 you would be better just getting a regular cable or dsl connection in your home and invest in a wireless router.

• Basic JDBC transactional question

Hello all,
I have (what I believe) is a basic transactional JDBC question.
Here's what I want to do:
begin transaction
select a row from a table where (some condition).
that row may or may not exist.
if the row exists: update the row
else if the row does not exist, insert a new row
end transaction
I want this entire thing to be atomic .. I don't want the select to complete, then have something else come in there before the update/insert takes place.
I'm using MySQL .. I seem to remember hearing about some proprietary MySQL command which would do a SELECT + UPDATE atomically .. which would be fine, but I can't find it.
Wrapping this with a row-level lock would be fine too .. I'm just not sure how to do that in JDBC.
Thanks!
-d

By thte way, and not that it helps the orignal poster, who's using MySQL, but Oracle has a proprietary MERGE statement that does "insert or update" in one go. For example:
MERGE INTO bonuses D
USING (SELECT employee_id, salary, department_id FROM employees
WHERE department_id = 80) S
ON (D.employee_id = S.employee_id)
WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET D.bonus = D.bonus + S.salary*.01
DELETE WHERE (S.salary > 8000)
WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (D.employee_id, D.bonus)
VALUES (S.employee_id, S.salary*0.1)
WHERE (S.salary <= 8000);

• Basic cube compression

Hi colleagues:
I have started a basic cube compression. Considering there are lots of delta load requisitions, the entire process will take more than 30 hours.
However I need to run the process chain to load delta in others data providers and also in the same basic cube that has being compressed.
May I run the delta loads in parallel to the compression process?
Best regards
Waldemar

I think Jkyle has probably identified the biggest concern.
This is a good example of why you should break up large processes into smaller pieces - I can't imagine a requirement to compress everything at once on a large InfoCube.
Always process manageable chunks of data whenever possible and benchmark before running larger processes, that way you can minimize:
- impacts to system availability.
- impact to system resources of large jobs.
