Basic questions on Collaboration Rooms,TREX and Federated portal

Hi All,
I have some basic doubts related to above topics.
1.In a particular collaboration room,Room admin role check box is disabled(greyed out),that means we can not add anybody as admin.other room roles like member and member admin are ok.How can I again make it enabled again?
2.In room administration under content admin->collaboration content->I can filter out the rooms available ,by giving appropriate filter search. But TREX is not installed with portal.Does this search uses TREX?
3.What is basic definition of federated portal? Is it something to do with the remote interaction of one portal with other?that means one portal iviews and other objects can be accessed through another portal. Is it True?
Thanks in Advance,points are guaranteed

Hi,
1. This should only be the case if the user that looks at the room roles is not an administrator in the room. An administrator should be able to givte this role to other users
2. This search can wor with TREX but it is not necessary. Please have a look at this: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ff/1a9442062bcd6ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm
3. Please read through this http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/67/7e70424edcc553e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm. It will give some basic introduction to FPN. The re are differen scenarios how to use. In priniciple, a portal can be a producer or a consumer of content or both

  • Few basic questions on collaboration

    Hi,
I am new to Collaboration, so thought someone could help me with this. I have already gone through documentation and I got some basic questions regarding COllaboration.
    a) I want to create a collaboration room. what are the portal roles that will be helpful for me. i.e is it ok if i assign CollaborationRoomCreation Role to the guy who creates a room (he will be admin and room owner, let us say "roomadmin") and a Collaboration Role to members. is it required to assign the content admin and system admin for the collaboration room administrator.  Isnt it cumbersome that each time a room owner invites a member, he should also notify user amdinistrator to assign "collaboration" role to the member in question.
Note: We are just using standard templates provided by SAP.
    b) and once roomadmin creates the room and includes a memnber for this room, will that particular user be automatically assigned the workset "Collaboration" which is in the Role "Collaboration" or should he contact user admin to assign the Collaboration role to the member that roomadmin has added.
    c) afaik, we can create documents, links, discussions, ratings, comments, feedback, reviews on documents in collaboration rooms. arent these KM functions that are being used in Collaboration
    e) arent the docs and folders created in collaboration rooms be available in KM content workset, if so where can i find them?
I have anotehr set of questions, but thought that i could seperate into two threads..becuase these questions itself carries 10 points.
Please help me in this regard.
    thanks
P.S: would be great if you could just give me atleast oneline answer instead of giving links to help/sdn..as i already gone through documentation and didnt understand the above concepts.

    hi,
its not necessary to assign content admin and System admin role. collaboration room creation role contains room directory iveiw thats more than enough for room creation. assign room creation role to ur administrator and for all other user you can assign a role called EU_role.
By assinging that role, u wil get to  see a workset called "home" in ur TLN.inside this workset u have a tab called rooms. the end user can see all types of room here.
so its not needed to assign collaboration role to all end users.

  • Some questions on Collaboration rooms

    HI,
In some of the room templates I found an extension BANNER. But how do I configure a Banner for my room I couldnt find.
I want to add a quick poll to my room template which I developed. How do I go about this.
The Search Room functionality: DOes this require TREX set up and if so what do I need to index for it to work.
Now in a collaboration room if i have a documents page which is a navigation page, the end user gets access to Move, Copy, Delete etc etc on the resources. How do I remove such links?
If I need to create any other such iView like a BI iView in my room template, how do I go about this?
Points assured for a Detailed Answer.

    thanks vijayakumar kanniah mohan
The room part works once I already have 2-3 created rooms.
Suppose I wish to add a quickpoll to the tenmplate will it reflect fo all the rooms which have been priorly created using this template.
In such a scenario, what can I do?
e.g. My template is MYTEMPLATE out of which I create ROOM 1 and ROOM 2. I can go and add room parts to those 2 rooms. But what if I want to just edit the room template and say add the quick poll to an existing page there. How do I get it reflected in ROOM 1,2.
Also I didnt quite get the answer to the Banner question.
I have the folowing Extensions in the room tempalte:
    Banner
    cmRoomExtensionSP2FP
    ON_CREATE_ROOM
    ON_DELETE_ROOM
    Contacts
    cmRoomExtensionSP2FP

  • Question on collaboration rooms

    Hello all,
I'm trying to activate a collaboration room in Netweaver 2004s. I'm using the SAP Standard templates. When I set up a collab room, no matter what template I base it on, it comes up with the same room parts. For example, I want to see discussion functionality. I choose a template that has discussion capability; as room admin I confirm that the discussion part exists, but no discussion iView comes up in the final room. Could this be some security or configuration issue? Please advise.
    PV

make sure that the room role you have, has the right page permissions. e.g. it might be that you have the admin role, but the page access is only permitted for members. maybe this hint helps.

  • Trex in Federated Portal

    Hello All,
We are working on federated portal environment. We want to have Trex search in fpn.
I have two queries on the same:
1)What are the configurations required for Trex in FPN. Do we need any special configuration?
2)If we have users having access to different producers then search should throw documents only from the producer  for which the user is having access. It shouldn't throw search results from all the producers of the portal.
Plz revert if anyone can help in this regard. Plz provide any supporting documents for the same.
    Thanks,
    Saumya

    Hello Rohit,
You can configure TREX in the central consumer portal, you might find the following documentation helpful regarding the search configuration which is necessary.

  • Part2: basic questions on collaboration and KM

    Hi,
could someone please help by answering my questions...
what is difference between "action item" and "approval" in the listbox while creating a task in "my tasks"  workset of Collaboration role?
what is difference between UWL and adhoc workflow.
what are extensions and extension points?
    Regards

    Hi,
    1)
Action item is for any task to be carried out.you mention the work to be done by the user in each step.
Approval : you attach a document and set the approval process, if the document is rejected by a approver it goes back to the author.
    2)
An extension for room or room part templates is a program that controls the storing and obtaining of data for rooms or room parts. For example, you can use extensions to define the following items:
-Definition of folders for data storage in your CM backend system
-Connection of further backend systems (for data storage)
    -Obtaining or linking information
For each extension in a template, certain extension points are defined. In the life-cycle of a room or room part, the system executes the extension at the extension points that are defined in the respective template. For example, when the system creates a room, it can create a folder in accordance with the extension configuration.
Configuring the extension for a template involves creating it for each of the planned extension points and defining the input and output parameters required.
The sequence of the extension points is not fixed, however, there can be logical dependencies. For example, an extension that generates an input parameter must be executed before an extension that uses the input parameter. This dependency can be controlled using an input parameter.
    3)
Ad Hoc Workflow (AWF) is a component accessible through the Universal Worklist (UWL). AWF is integrated with the UWL so that users can create ad-hoc workflows with multiple steps. Users can assign work items to other portal users, and define the work item types, details and due dates. Users define ad hoc workflows using the provided Ad Hoc Workflow Wizard.
    Ad hoc agent assignment
A workflow of this type enables agents to be assigned to workflow steps when the workflow is started. During workflow execution the agent assignment can be changed by authorized users at any time for steps not yet completed.

  • Basic questions about high-quality output and PDFs

I do volunteer work in a non-profit that interfaces with local county government.  We've been discussing a project to produce an atlas-type information as a service to the residents.  The maps would be rendered by the GIS software the county uses (ESRI's Arc suite).  The question is what file format should we ask for given the high-quality print and plot output we have in mind and our desire to add some simple vector markup in some cases to the maps.  The markup, when used, would be simple circles, rectangles, arrows or text.
Our idea is the do most of the printing and plotting ourselves (we'd use something like a local Kinkos).  This allows is to control paper sizes.  In addition, we might want to crop the map and upscale a bit so we need to be careful of data density (dpi).  The question is what file format do we request from the county?
Obviously we can ask for PDFs but, as a novice with that output, I don't fully understand 1) its Tools capability (but I am learning about it) and 2) how to control data density.
Since I think its best to envision a PDF as a "box" for other data, is the quality of the output going to be determined by the data density of the object inside the PDF?
I know I may not be very clear so please help me get clear on the question if I haven't expressed it well here.
BTW, I know I can place a PDF into an AI object and then add the vector stuff if needed, but I don't know from a workflow perspective if that's the best way to assure hight quality output.
    Thanks
    Tom
P.S. We may end up with GIS viewing software as we move forward (ESRI has a grant program for non-profits).  All this would mean would be we would be the ones making the decision about output format but the question on workflow would still remain.

    4. Finally, with CDs burned this way through iTunes, does iTunes place some sort of DRM on the burned CDs? If so, what practical effect does that DRM have on my burned CD (how does it limit the functionality of the CD?
No, so no limits to functionality.

  • Basic question about multiple AP's and channel selection

I have approximately 10 AP's (Aironet 1240G) which are to be deployed one of my office floors. We looked at a floor diagram and made sure that we ordered enough of them to completely saturate the floor with wireless coverage. There are some AP's which are probably only 50' from each other. It is a little overkill actually.
I have put a basic configuration on the switch so that there are two different SSID's on the AP (one for a production WLAN, and the other for a Guest WLAN). Each SSID is associated with a different VLAN.
What I would like to know is what do about channels for the AP's? Each AP will be independently configued and controlled.
I understand that there is a way to control which channels each AP uses, but I am not familiar with the commands or the best practices for how to configure the AP's
Should I do something like make sure each AP is using a different channel than its nearest adjacent neighbor? Would someone mind sharing what the command to do that is, and where it is applied?
I read through some of the archives and saw people mentioning to set "non overlapping channels", and to configure them to use channels 1,6,11. I guess I dont understand what is meant by that.
Do you manually set one AP on channel 1, then set its neighbor to use 6, and another neighbor to use 11, and then you keep that up?
What is the worst-case scenario on what happens when you do have AP's too close to each other set on the same channel?
I am happy to read through documentation if someone wouldnt mind pointing me to it. I am still trying to understand the concept, and then I should be able to understand the documentation that came with the AP.
    Thank you for your help.

So your deploying autonomous access Points. If this was a Controller based deployment, it would actually manage the channels for you dynamically.
But what you really want to do is see you APs doing something like this:
(imagine each number represents an AP, and it channel)
    1 6 11 1
    6 11 1 6
    11 1 6 11
    1 6 11 1
This is an Autonmous configuration guide. I think it has a small section on channel assignment. If you're doing this manually, I think you specify the actual frequency to use in the CLI instead of channel number.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_3g_JA/configuration/guide/s43rf.html
So from the CLI under the Dot11Radio0 you'd do something like "channel 2412" for Channel 1... 2437 for 6, 2462
    for 11....
If you have APs next to each other on the same channel, you are likely to have clients interferring with each other.

  • Collaboration Rooms, Calendar and Appointments

    Hi
I really want to know how can I change the state of an appointment in the calendar room.
    States like "Suspended", "Cancelled", "Made"
    Regards

    Hi Gracia,
this is not supported. But since the the appointments are residing in your GW system you can do this wiuth your respective client software (example outlook)

  • How to create a collaboration room of the SAP Portal from EJB tier.

    Hi.
I have created a EJB Stateless Session Beans, and I want to create a room using the API of KM.
I have used the code mentioned in this URL: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/7d/c69c42d706c66ae10000000a155106/content.htm

After playing with WebDynPro and PDK  - finally I have a simple list showing.  This simple example has provided me with a good starting point - it is a pity that SAP do not provide such simple examples to allow you to get your head around the concepts.
I used the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio to produce a version of my example using a WebDynPro and a JSPDynPage (PDK). Deployed to my EP6 server and then created iVews to show then in the appropriate theme.
My thoughts on this now are that both WebDynPro and PDK have merits - both achieve same end result with various affects.  WebDynPro is clunky and PDK is not tighly integrated with the Studio (unlike the .NET one).
To use the PDK you need to understand the TAGs and the SAPDesignGuild website helps  - but would be better if the Studio presented a graphical interface much like DreamWeaver does.
SAP's direction seems to be with WebDynPro and no longer PDK  - wonder if this is truely the case ?.  SAP does have a lot of work to do in my opinion to get both products up to scratch from a useability point of view.

  • Crystal Reports and Federated Portals

    Hi Experts,
We've got a SAP Portal used to display some BI / BO (Crystal Reports) content. We'd like to federate this portal. The BI / BO portal would be the producer and our global portal would be the consumer. I know how to federate the BI content but what are the SAP guidelines to federate the BO content?
    Regards,
    Pierre

    Hi,
Well, it seems this scenario is not supported yet (using the BOBJ template) : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1462514

  • Basic Question on Copy and Delta link which one to use when?

    Hi
    Its basic question
My understanding about copy and Delta link is
Copy doesnot ahve direct relationship with source object (but it acts as a sibling) any changes done to spurce object does not affect target object.
Where as Delta link will have a parent child relation ship between source object bacially its a copy of source and inherits id properties. in case if i change source object does this affect target object, we can delete, add content to delta link target object.
let's say if i want to use standard quickpoll iView do i need to use copy or delta link similarly for other iviews, worksets, roles which one will be better.
    Regards,
    Murali

    Murali,
    Yes, your understanding is right.
    Case 1 : Copy
    A- Object
    B- Copy of A
Both of them are independent.Any changes in A are not dependent on B and vice versa.
    Case 2 : Delta Link
    A - Object
B - Copy of A (via Delta link)
Any changes to A are reflected in B, as A is a parent and B a child.
But B would be an independent entity.Any changes to B would not effect A.
When you use either of them, depends on your need. When you are working with standard iviews or roles or workset, you can do a copy of the original, because in most cases we would not make changes to the standard roles or worksets or iviews. There by eliminating the process of making a delta copy.
But, if you are dealing with the roles that you have created and want to make a copy of it, you can use a delta link, because, even if you want to add more iviews and worksets to that role, they would get reflected when you make a delta copy.
    Hope that helps.

  • Collaboration Rooms on Federated Portal

    Hi:
We have configured collaboration Rooms in our producer portal. We want to show them on consumer portal using a remote role created on producer.
When we assign the remote role on the consumer , the rooms are not shown completely.
Is there a limitation on using remote roles with collaboration rooms?
