BASIS Training question

Good morning,
This is a question that is not 100% technical but does have relevance.
For all the certified i5/OS BASIS people : Is it true that there is no TADM56 specifically for DB2 UDB for i5/OS? And if this is true then what course did you do? If this is false then when did you do your training and where?
I would appreciate any input in this matter as I am having problems obtaining this information from all other sources and am desperate to complete my certification in my appropriate DB.

Hi Anette,
yes, this is true ...
This class (should) cover all the certification stuff you need - this contains on "millions of classes" AND the ADM525 for DB2 for system i.
You can now book the other classes at SAP and this one class (with a different class number) @ IBM as only IBM gives ADM525 now.

Training question

Hi,
I am beginning work on a team that utilizes HTML-db (application express).
Can anyone provide me some direction as far as learning how best to use HTML-db? I am interested in any books, tutorials, and /or online courses that teach Html-db.
My background consists of some C++ training along with use of HTML in webpage design.

DNG Profile Editor "base profile" question.

I'm profiling a Canon 5D3 with both the Adobe DNG Profile Editor and the Xrite ColorChecker software. It's been about 3 years since I last profiled a camera, so I'm re-doing the learning curve. My question now is how and why the DNG Profile editor depends on a "base profile?" Specifically, why does the DNG PE Chart Wizard generate different results depending on what base profile is used.
I see in the documentation that "all color adjustments made in the DNG Profile Editor are defined relative to a base profile." I understand that logic when making a custom profile via manual tweaks. You have to have a starting point. But I don't understand that logic when using the Chart Wizard. I expected the Chart Wizard to arrive at the same pre-defined target point regardless of the starting point. It does not seem to do that.
I discovered the difference by using an apparently bad workflow. I shot my colorchecker chart, converted the CR2 to DNG and brought it into Photoshop via ACR to inspect. That stored "Adobe Standard" as the base profile in the DNG.
Then I fed this DNG to the DNG PE Chart Wizard and generated a profile. I opened the image in ACR and applied "My Profile", which became the base profile in the DNG file. I thought I did something wrong, so I ran the same DNG through the Chart Wizard again and generated "My Second Profile." That version looked very strange, so I did it again and made "My Third Profile."
Now I have three profiles. My First Profile was made from Adobe Standard base. My Second Profile was made from My First Profile base. My Third Profile was made from My Second Profile base. Each iteration becomes more strange (bad), so this is clearly not the proper workflow. But what is? What base profile should be selected for Chart Wizard and why does it matter?
Being curious, I did the same exercise using the Xrite ColorChecker software. That software generates the same result, regardless of what base profile is stored in the DNG files. I'm not sure I like the results, but at least they are consistent.

DNG Profile Editor lets you define color edits (in the first tab) using a set of color control points. These control points in turn define a color lookup table used to perform the color correction when processing a (raw) image.
When you use a Base Profile, the resulting color table in the final profile is a combination of the base profile's color table, plus the color table defined by any edits that you've added in the first tab (using the Chart Wizard counts as adding edits to that first tab).
The reason you can get different and less smooth results if you apply the Chart Wizard iteratively is because you are applying lookup table after lookup table. The current color table-building method used by DNG PE has some limitations regarding smoothness of color profiles if two color control points are placed too closely (this can happen with the Chart Wizard, or if you specify two points manually that are close to each other). These problems can become more noticeable if you apply the DNG PE iteratively.

Using 21.5 imac,10.6.3, as wifi base station, questions

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone here can help. I have 2 questions
1. I want to use my new Imac as the base station for a wifi network. Easy enough-hookup ethernet cable from cable modem to imac, go to sharing pref, click internet sharing, voila. That works fine. The trouble comes when I use "enable encryption" from Airport options. As long as I don't put in a password, all my other computers surf the net via the wifi network from the imac fine. If I add password protection, my other computers cannot get onto the network. They see the network but when I enter the password into the prompt window, I get the "trouble getting onto network" message. What's up with that?
2. Once i've established this unprotected network, I'd like to use my airport express module as a network extender. But when I try to set it up using the airport assistant setup app, the app doesn't see the wifi network emanating from the imac. I tried to do it using the setup assistant in the imac itself, and I tried to do it from a laptop, thinking the imac might not see it's own self-emanating network. Can't get the express to be an extender either way. Is this possible? I haven't found any documentation saying it isn't possible, so...

It has long been an issue that Windows computers can't wirelessly join an encrypted network provided by a Mac acting as a base station. There is no resolution other than not using encryption.
Can't get the express to be an extender either way. Is this possible?
Sorry but OS X's wireless Internet sharing is not compatible with the technology needed to allow the AirPort Express (AX) to wirelessly extend the network.
The solution is to get an inexpensive wireless router and use that instead of using your iMac.
BTW, your 21.5 inch iMac is not an iMac G5. It is an Intel-based iMac. You should post any future questions in the Intel-based iMac discussion area.

XSAN training question

Hello Everybody,
This question is for anybody who had the xsan training.
How is that? Do they teach you a lot? Is it worth it to go to the 3 day class?
Also, I don't see a training for xserve raids, do they cover that in the xsan class?

Be forewarned: While Xsan training is certainly a good idea, it will NOT teach you much about troubleshooting. Most teachers probably don't have much real-world troubleshooting experience. You'll have to learn that from the forums and your own experiences.

Help Desk Knowledge Base & Training Video Screen Recording

Although, I do not think it has the ability to host videos currently. You could host your videos on YouTube and link to them.
I have not started using the Spiceworks KB yet, as mine is in MediaWiki, which you may want to take a look at as well.

My company asked me to start thinking about the feasibility of implementing a knowledge base system for our internal technical support staff, and also one for our customers. With the customer's kb, they also want to have me create training videos on all of the different software packages we support.I have looked at using wordpress for a knowledge base, but it I would like something more designed at being a knowledge base rather than having to add in functionality. I have also looked at moodle which seems good for the courses with training videos, but seems also to not have a great knowledge base function. I could be missing something blatant as I only briefly played around in these systems.So....
Does anyone have any suggestions on a knowledge base system?
Also, any suggestions on screen recording software? Specifically those with tools...

Base Analytics Questions

I have a Pro account, and have a few questions regarding base analytics:
1) we can see data for which articles are viewed in a folio and how many times, and also data for overlay views... but is there any way in base analytics to see which overlays are being viewed in each article (match them up)?
2) under Articles > Videos, it isn't showing any data for us and yet we have a video in our folio. If you look under All Overlays, it lists Video, and shows data under the Overlay Starts. Why isn't anything showing under Articles > Videos?
3) I assume that 360 refers to all image sequences in the folio? Is there any way to separate image sequences from actual 360's? If not, where can we make this a suggested change in the future! I would think a simple checkbox in the Folio Overlay panel in InDesign to designate an actual 360 vs an image sequence used for something else...

Here are the responses:
1) Currently the base analytics does not provide you a way to know which overlays from a specific article are being viewed. If you are a SiteCatalyst customer you can see breakdown of overlay starts per article.
2) This is a bug which needs to be fixed soon in the upcoming release.
3) Currently you cannot differentiate 360 from image sequences. Thanks for the feedback, we'll evaluate it.

Oracle Install Base API question

Hi...I need help. I am writing an extension to the Service Fulfillment Manager (SFM) Transactions
Here is a functional background:
For all SFM message types, SFM exposes the PL/SQL code in the iMessage studio. iMessage studio is an Oracle EBS Application tool. The PL/SQL for the following message types will be modified:
·     Sales Order Shipment - CSISOSHP
·     Miscellaneous Receipt - CSIMSRCV
·     Receipt into Inventory – CSIPOINV
The processing logic for each of these transaction types contains a call to an Installed Base package and stores the return status in a variable. For PO Receipt and SO Issue transactions referencing serial numbers prefixed by the Vertical Bar (‘|’) character this call will be bypassed and a successful status placed in the return status variable.
For PO Receipt and Miscellaneous Receipt transactions referencing serial numbers not prefixed by the Vertical Bar (‘|’) character, the processing logic will be extended to extract the IUID value from the serial numbers table in the Oracle Inventory module (MTL_SERIAL_NUMBERS) and call the public IB Application Programming Interface (API) (CSI_ITEM_INSTANCE_PUB.UPDATE_ITEM_INSTANCE) to update the associated IB instance with the IUID.
OK, so Question #1:
I get all I need to do is bypass the code in 2 instances if a bar is found at the beginning of the serial number.. And I can do that. But where is this serial number? I assume it is stored in MTL_SERIAL_NUMBERS but how do I get it?
The code doesn't have it stored as a variable, and it doesn't seem to have the IB record either. Is there a foreign key? Anyone have imessage studio and can look into that?

To update the IB record with the serial number I need to make a call to the below procedure. The thing is, it seems to require the IB instance record. Again, I don't have that cause the code is creating it! Is there some way to get that created record back and pass it into the update procedure?

LDAP External Authentication Multiple Search Base DNs question

hi,
im trying two add two LDAP search DNs to a portal 6.2 organisation.
with one search base dn it works fine.
when i add another, all ldap auth for that org stops working.
the docs confusingly state that if you have multiple search dns (not talking about multiple ldap servers here - just the search base dns) that you should prefix each entry with the local server name. the docs however provide no examples of the syntax.
can anyone provide an example for multiple search dns? e.g. is it <server:port>:o=<etc> (doesn't seem to work).

yes i have.. but when you enter more than one it stop working... with only one entry in the gui it will work for that entry but when you add another it stops working...
i had to use a manual workaround like this to get the second going... :(
External ldap authentication
register the LDAP authentication service in the gui and setup the first DN as normal.
create the first set of entries for the ldap host and the base dn in the gui as normal etc.
the gui in the admin console is not working (depending on your point of view), so you need to add the second ldap config manually -

1. Get an encrypted value for the bind dns (cn=Directory Manager) password you want to bind to the ldap directory as by using the ampassword utility shipped with Identity Server.

More information on this utility can be found in the Sun ONE Identity Server Administration Guide.
2. Copy the encrypted password as the value for the iplanet-am-auth-ldap-bind-passwd in the XML file (serviceAddMultipleLDAPConfigurationRequests.xml) created in Step 1. The XML file contains a template for creating the second LDAP DN.
3. Modify the data XML file accordingly so that the relevant details are provided for the 2nd ldap server (bind dn search base etc) and load this into the portal directory using the amadmin command line tool as follows from the /opt/SUNWam/bin directory

If the imported xml values are incorrect delete and reload the imported xml data using amadmin command tool. Alternatively you can modify the ldap data directly on the primary identity server (ldap server) using a client browser though this method is not supported .
You should be able to see new imported values for the second ldap server at dn:ou=subconfig1,ou=default,ou=OrganizationConfig,ou=1.0,ou=iPlanetAMAuthLDAP
Service,ou=services,ou=ORG,o=lgaq.qld.gov.au on the primary ldap server (where ORG is the organisation you wanted to add the second DN).

MPLS training question

Hey guys,
I took an MPLS course online and it pointed something out I really didn't get, or at least need clarification on.
The person giving the course said that because of how the PE's interact with the P LSR's that is isn't necessary to run a routing protocol in the core on the P's and that savings in resource is a reason to go to MPLS.
Can I get some clarification?
Do the P MPLS LSR's rely only on labels for routing or are they running a routing protocol in the background?

Let me see if I can bring clarification.
The trainer said that running a routing protocol on the P routers was not necessary.
Let's have only a look at an MPLS VPN network, because that is what is referred to here, I think.
(Also, we only consider LDP and not TE as label distribution protocol.)
In that case, all PE and P routers need to run an IGP. When MPLS is deployed, MPLS still relies on
a routing protocol, which distributes the routes. LDP distributes the labels. LDP only assigns
labels to IGP routes in the routing table, hence an IGP is needed in the core. The routes from the
IGP and the labels from LDP are the two main ingredients needed to build the LFIB which is used
to forward the labeled packets.
Now, perhaps I know where the confusion comes from. I believe that in the training a hypothetical
alternate solution to MPLS VPN as we know it, was presented. Namely, that the VPN routes
could be distributed hop-by-hop from PE to P to PE routers by one IGP per VPN (and LDP
distributing the labels). This could be theoretically possible, but it would lead to scalability
issues because of the number of routing protocols. It also leads to an operational nightmare
for the people operating the MPLS network. Hence, that kind of MPLS VPN was never implemented.
I believe this could be the "savings in resource" that you mentioned.
In the real MPLS VPN solution, we run BGP between the PE routers which carry the VPN routes (and the VPN label),
hence the P routes do not need to run an IGP per VPN. They only need to run one IGP for the global routes.
BGP is not needed on the P routers.
Well, that's what I can come up with as an explanation. Anyway, you need to run an IGP on the P routers.

Acrobat Connect Training Question

I am just wondering if other applications, besides
PowerPoint, are supported by Adobe Connect's Training module for
creating courses. For example, could HTML "slides" be converted to
a training course? Or is PowerPoint the only means to creat a
course for Connect's training module at this time?
If this is true, are there plans in the future to support
creating modules from other applications?

For training courses (or curriculums), you can have any item
that you can put into the Content Library. There is no limit to
what that can be except the 100mb upload limit, but only a
Presenter Presentation (made in PPT) or a Captivate Presentation
can have Quiz functionality and tracking. I don't believe that this
is expected to change.
