Batch Changing Dreamweaver files from XHTML to HTML

Almost all of my Dreamweaver files were created in XHTML
mode. In other
words, when I created a page and was asked whether I wanted
to make it
XHTML compatible, I said YES.
About the time I moved my websites from my PC to my Mac, I
finally
realized that XHTML is a lost cause and changed my doctypes
to HTML. But
I just discovered that even PHP include files that have no
doctype at
all automatically insert <br /> instead of <br>.
So I'm assuming that
there must be some invisible code that says "Format this page
for XHTML!"
So I'm wondering if there's a way to change every file in an
entire site
(or all my sites) from XHTML to HTML.
Thanks.

I use XHTML because it forces good coding practices such as
always closing
tags. The usual reason most people give for not using XHTML
is that IE
chokes when it is served as xml+application instead of text.
XHTML Strict
does not allow target="page.html" but transitional does so I
stick with
transitional.
I won't use XHTML 1.1 because I don't like the modularization
part of the
spec. I like a nice standard spec and don't want to create my
own picking
and choosing which modules to include.

Where did you get the video from?
From the pic I noticed that the folder is 841.9mb.  What's inside?  Or what happens when you click on it?

  • Can you please tell me what to do when I change a file from PDF to word and it comes up with headers

Can you you please tell me what to do when I change a file from PDF to word and it comes up with headers and footers. I do not want the headers and footers but I need the information so that changes can be made in them  - There are over 80 pages in this document and every page had a header and footer. The document did not have any headers and footers when it was first typed out.

    Good day,
Try converting the document to a .doc format instead of .docx.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, please share the file with us via the File Conversion Issue form.  Be sure to reference this forum thread in your description so we can circle back on the issue.

  • Can't see design view after changing connections file from localhost to a remote host & back again

I was using localhost to test files before changing the connections document over to a remote host, since I couldn't get dreamweaver to connect to the remote host, I changed back to localhot. My files are all .php files. This is a dynamic site. After I changed my connection back to my local host my design view no longer works. It's competly grey with 3 small icons at the top on the left. I can view in live view and I can view in the browser. But no longer in design view after being able to for 6 months. The 3 icons are a hard drive case, a document, and a link symbol . When I click in code view the design view turns grey when I click in design view it turns white. I am using wamp for the localhost, Windows XP home, Dreamweaver CS5. Can someone please tell me how to go back to design view. This happens with any & all files including non dynamic .html files. Also having a problem connecting to my remote host. using godaddy, and they have tried with me for 2 hours to connect, I just keep getting password is incorrect. Thank you for any help, Stacey

I would also recommend clearing the Site cache, which may help with the connection failure. To do so, choose Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
After doing so, be sure to go back into your Site Setup, and make sure the FTP address, user name, and password are all correct. (Click the Test button in there to verify.)
If that doesn't help with getting connected to your server, you might try an alternate FTP client (e.g. FileZilla) to just make sure you are entering the right connection information. It could be that GoDaddy is having some issue, or maybe you just mistyped something (I know I do this often when I type too fast).
As for the issue with Design View, try clearing the Dreamweaver cache. Instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
You might also try toggling the location of Design View. That is, when in Split View, choose View > Design View On Left. Then, choose that menu option again to reset the location back to the right.
Resetting the workspace might also be recommended. Window > Worksapce Layout > Reset 'name of current workspace'

  • Batch change jp2 files to Photoshop (CS3)

I found a website that allows you to download old (public domain) books. Each page is saved as a jp2, which I can't open in Photoshop CS3. I found an plugin that enables me to open them, and I could have sworn it was working, but it suddently stopped working for some reason.
Anyway, I have a folder full of folders with over a thousand jp2 images. I can open them in Pixelmator and save them as Photoshop files, but that's very time consuming. So, can anyone tell me if there's a way to do a batch change - convert every jp2 image in the folder to a format that I can open in Photoshop CS3?
Also, can anyone recommend an online guide to batch changing. I'd like to learn how to batch change file sizes; for example convert all images that are 4,000 pixels wide to 500 pixels wide. I'd also like to learn how to batch change file names. I probably have to pursue each of these separately, but I just wondered if there's some sort of online central guide to batch changing.
    Thanks.

".jp2" is just the file extension for JPEG 2000, which a number of applications can open, including your Photoshop CS3, Photoshop 13 ("CS6"), Apple Preview, GraphicConverter, Safari, Firefox, etc..  Just install the JPEG2000.plugin from the Optional Plug-Ins folder in your CS3.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Batch Create Multiple Files from InDesign CS5 files

When attempting to batch create PDFs from Indesign CS5 files using Acrobat Pro 9's File>Create PDF>Batch Create Multiple Files ... option the operation fails with the error 'Could not find the application that created this file: [path to file] Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer.' as shown in the screenshot below:
Acrobat 9 Professional was bundled with Creative Suite 5 Design Standard so shouldn't this work? My machine is running OS X 10.6.7, Acrobat Pro 9.44 and InDesign CS5 7.04.
Any help to solve this issue would be most gratefully received - this feature had previously saved me a lot of time on my old machine with 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 9 and CS4.

I have uploaded the files and shared them.  These are the links

  • Is it possible to batch change multiple file extensions

Is there a way to batch change file extensions? I have more than 150 files on which I need to change the extension and it's a bit of a pain to do each one separately and then have to confirm it.
    Thanks!

This is where the terminal can be your friend. Open up terminal and change to the folder in question
To do this, assuming the folder is called 'myfiles' and is on your desktop:
    cd ~/Desktop/myfiles
(Or you could type cd then drag the folder to the terminal window to save typing)
Then the command below will rename *.txt to *.rtf (change the two occurrences of 'txt' and the one 'rtf' as appropriate:
    for f in *.txt; do base=`basename $f .txt`; mv $f $base.rtf; done

  • Batch Changing iPhoto File Formats

I have scanned a few thousand photos and imported them to my iPhoto library. 90% of them are saved in Photoshop format. Most of these photos have comments, locations, and face IDs, The date has been changed to the date the photo was taken.
How can I change the file format from Photoshop to JPEG and retain the data that currently exists?

What settings exactly are you using in the Export window?
There is no way to write Faces Information to a file. Simply there is no standard for sharing this information yet. The workaround is to use keywords. This is true of all Faces type technology on all systems.
If your goal is "improved response time and more stable iPhoto Library" then the changing the file format is not what you need to do. I would be looking to other things.
Can you describe the symptoms you are having?

  • Batch Extract Audio Files from .m4a videos

I saw something about using Terminal to extract audio files from a batch of quicktime movies, but I'm not sure where it was. Anyway, is there a way besides doing each manually? There are quite a few of them. I know my way around Terminal fairly well if necessary.

Okay, I kind of solved it (drag and drop, click, drag and drop, click, etc...) by using ffmpegX, which puts each file into a queue and goes through and converts them all. Still, it would be cool if there was a way to do it all in a single batch because if you drop a batch into ffmpegX, it only does the first one.

  • How can i change my files from cwk to normal files that i can send to anyone and they can open them

i have an imac with snow lepard program, and all the files from apple work finish, once saved with cwk.
whenever i try sending them no one can open or read the.
is there any way i can convert them into something thats compatiable with all other programs and computers?
    HELP thank you

AW WP & SS files can be opened directly in Pages and Numbers (iWork). From there they can be exported as Word or Excel, but there may be some loss of formatting.
Just drag WP file onto the Pages icon in the Dock, or a SS file onto the numbers icon. Likewise presentation files onto the Keynote icon.
Or you can right-click on the file and use the "open with" dialogue to choose the relevant application.
    Databases are less easy.
You can export AW DB files as ASCII text files which can then be imported into Numbers. Not ideal, but OK for simple lists.
You can then export them as .csv files which can be imported to most third-party database applications.
For drawing and paint files, Intaglio looks OK, but pricey. You may find others with a bit of searching, but that's the only current app I found that claims to open AW draw and paint files (as distinct from MacPaint and MacDraw).
Addendum; I'm told that the ASCII extension can be manually changed to .tsv (tab seperated values) which should also open directly in many database apps.

  • Batch editing raw files from bridge

When I batch edit my raw files, including saving the file as a jpeg, from bridge or photoshop the resulting file saved never includes any changes I made in the Camera Raw editor. For example if I have lightened the photo by changing the exposure in Camera Raw as a saved jpeg after batching the file is still as dark as when originally shot. Is there some little box I forgot to check or something? Thanks!
    andy

    Edit:
Glad to hear you got it working.
I'll just leave what i had put here anyway.
    You want Program Files (x86)
That's where the 32 bit programs such as photoshop cs3 are on a windows 7 64 bit system.
Also, in bridge cs3 under Edit>Preferences>Thumbnails ensure Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Jpeg and Tiff files is checked.
    (then restart bridge cs3)

  • When trying to save a file under Excel 2008, ver 12.3.3, with extension .xlsx or .xlx, I am told it can't be saved because it is "read only." How do I change the file from read only?

When I try to save a file using Excel 2008, ver 12.3.3, with extension either .xlsx or .xls, I get a message saying it cannot be saved because it is "read only." How do I change it from read only? (And how did it ever get to be read only?)

Save the file as a new name. Close and Open the new file.
Most likely when a file transfer happens, Office makes the file 'Read Only'.
If you have two opened files with the same name, the last opened file will be 'Read Only'.

How do I change a pdf file to word/pages so I can edit it?

You can extract the text from most PDF's by selecting it and copying it to a document in an editor, though it may come out garbled. Anything more than that would require third-party software, if it can be done at all. PDF is not designed to be editable.

  • Is it possible to batch bounce audio files from markers?

Archiving old DAT tapes, I'm wondering if it's possible to create and even name markers on the fly and later "batch bounce" the whole tape offline to audio files bearing the same name as the markers.
I'm aware that you can split regions & batch bounce them but AFAIK you can't split a region on the fly...

  • I need to change my documents from RTF to HTML how do i do this

What software do I need to create files that are readable by Windows applications?? really stuck on this one!!

Of course, we could go old school and use the Terminal command-line to convert the following file types to HTML:
    text
    rtf
    rtfd (text+image)
    doc
    docx
    xml
    odt (LibreOffice/OpenOffice Writer
    webarchive
While in Finder, press shift+command+U. This will open the /Applications/Utility folder. Double click on Terminal to launch it. The assumption (for simplicity) is that the file you want to convert from one of the listed file formats is sitting in your login directory.
Triple-click on the following command to select it. Copy (command+C) it to the clipboard. Click your mouse inside the Terminal app to gain keyboard focus. Paste (command+v) the command below into the Terminal. Backspace over the sample filename and replace it with the compatible filename you want to convert. A new HTML file is written as filename.html. Your original file is unchanged.
    /usr/bin/textutil -convert html foo.doc
Back in a Finder window, you can double-click the new filename.html and it will open in Safari. Any images in the source document will be placed in an adjacent folder. The conversion does a reasonable job of text and image placement, but is no substitute for fine-tuning via Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
I wrote a folder-action that allows one to drag and drop a candidate file on it and produce an HTML file.
