Batch: Open Bridge 'Stacks' as layers in PS CS5 + run action. Is this possible with script??

I posted this topic a couple of days ago - I didn't know about this forum/group so the thread appears in Photoshop Scripting and Bridge Windows. I haven't found a solution on those forums - can any one here help?
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/880777?tstart=0
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/880779?tstart=0
I would like to automate part of my workflow that involves opening stacked images (in Bridge CS5) as layers in Ps CS5 and running an PS action that composites the layers and processes the image. Something similar to 'Process Collection' in Bridge CS5 only with my own action instead of merge to HDR/Panorama.
Apparently this is possible with Mac 'Automator' - is there anything I can do in Windows? I don't have any experience with writing scripts, but have friends that can help. Can someone tell me if its possible and point me in the right direction please?
This needs to be a batch process. I know how to open images as layers from Bridge so that I can manually run the PS action - I would like to automatically process lots of images in this same way.
To clarify, the script if possible will need to
1) find first stack (in Bridge [in selected folder])
2) open as layers in PS
3) run PS action
4) save and close (as psd preserving layers)
5) find next stack in Bridge (selected folder) and repeat.
By 'stack' I mean a set of similar files (for instance same scene -2EV, 0EV, +2EV)
Bridge's 'Process Collection' feature is great because it very cleverly recognises similar images (I think you have to stack them first) opens them and either processes them into a hdr or panoramic image. Instead or hdr or pano, wouldn't it be great if you could run your own action.
Bridge's Image Processor is fantastic at opening a batch of individual files and running your own processing action, but it won't open groups of images ('Stacks' or sets) as layers.
What I need is basically a hybrid of the two.

In case you miss my late append in the other thread you may want to look at the auto collection script that ships with the Bridge and use it as a base for what you want to do. You may also be able to automat the creation of your stacks if their time stamps are close. The Auto Collection Script night now does two types of stacks  HDR and Panoramas.  You may be able to modify it to do a third stack type. You stack type and use your stack processing process instead of mearge to HDR or PhotoMerge.
From Bridge help:
The Auto Collection CS5 script in Adobe Bridge assembles sets of images into stacks for processing as high dynamic range (HDR) or panoramic composites in Photoshop CS5. The script collects images into stacks based on capture time, exposure settings, and image alignment. Timestamps must be within 18 seconds for the Auto Collection script to process the photos. If exposure settings vary across the photos and content overlaps by more than 80%, the script interprets the photos as an HDR set. If exposure is constant and content overlaps by less than 80%, the script interprets the photos as being part of a panorama.
Note: You must have Adobe Bridge with Photoshop CS5 for Auto Collection CS5 to be available.
To enable the Auto Collection CS5 script, choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Adobe Bridge CS5.1 > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Startup Scripts panel, select Auto Collection CS5, and then click OK.
Select a folder with the HDR or panoramic shots, and choose Stacks > Auto-Stack Panorama/HDR.
Choose Tools > Photoshop > Process Collections In Photoshop to automatically merge them and see the result in Adobe Bridge.

Sorry but a script can not access Lightroom so your first step isn't possible.
Second step is Lightroom not Photoshop.
Maybe something could be done if you could work out a Photoshop Only workflow.

  • Two users open same file at the same time... how is this possible?

I am the Creative Director for a magazine. All the people in my team are using Macs with Leopard and Indesign CS3. I didn't know this was possible, but it is happening to us. Two people can open the same Indesign file at the same time. When this happens, the file becomes corrupt and we can't work on it again. We don't use Version Cue. We probably should, as well as In Copy, but we just haven't had the time to learn to use them. This problem started about three months ago and we have not been able to determine how this is possibe or find any information why it is happening, or how to stop it from happening. Help! If anyone out there has any idea... we are desperate.

My hunch would be to suspect the server - it's probably not handling file locking correctly.
Here's what I'd image I'd try - but be aware, I am writing down stuff from memory, and I cannot guarantee the info is completely accurate - but I hope it might give you some pointers.
    - If the server is currently providing the AppleShare Filing Protocol (or whatever it is called - acronym is AFP), you could try to connect using that.
Go to the Finder, and use the Go - Connect to Server... menu item and enter the server's IP address, prefixed with afp:// - e.g. if the server is on IP address, say '192.168.1.120'
In that case, I'd try connecting to
    afp://192.168.1.120
(I am inventing this IP address for the sake of argument - don't simply copy this number. Ask the IT guy what the server's IP actual address is. There are other ways to connect, and using the IP address is very crude and 'primitive' but it also cuts a few complexities out of the picture).
If this does not work, it might mean that the server is not providing the AFP protocol - in that case, ask the IT guy if he can turn it on for you.
I don't know much about what Microsoft's various product names mean (e.g. what exactly is included in a 'Microsoft small business server' - no idea), but there's a good chance there is a module available that is probably called 'Services for Macintosh' which can be installed.
I've worked around Microsoft servers before, and if I remember correctly, 'Services for Macintosh' is not typically installed by default - it's part of the product, but it is not installed unless explicitly requested during install.
The IT guy will need to get out the Microsoft server's install disks and install the optional Services for Macintosh, then turn it on. Once that is done, the above 'magical incantation' afp://yadiyadi... should work.
If it does, make sure _everyone_ in the team uses the same method to connect to the server, and then try again - there's a good chance the server will now honor the file locking and warn the second user who attempts to open the document.
    - If the server is already using the AppleShare Filing Protocol, and you're already doing some variation of the above, and the whole point I made above is moot, try connecting using the SMB protocol instead. So, in the finder use 'Go - Connect to Server...' then use
    smb://192.168.1.120
(replacing 192.168.1.120 by your server's real IP address).
Again - make sure _everyone_ is using the same method to connect before trying whether the files are now locked properly.
The AFP and SMB protocols are the two most common protocols that Macs can use to connect to a Microsoft file server.
Now, the third possible cause: often people don't realize there are possibly multiple ways to connect to an MS server, and so people go browsing the network from their Macs and 'grab' whatever entry they see first.
So what often happens is that user 'A' is actually connecting using SMB, and user 'B' is connecting using 'AFP' and in theory that should all work, but in practice sometimes things go wrong.
My recommendation is to make sure that all users in the Mac workgroup connect in the exact same way - so there's no mix of SMB and AFP protocols being used.
To verify which protocol is used, right-click or control-click on the volume name after it has been mounted on the Mac, and use the Get Info... menu item - the info dialog should tell you which protocol is being used. The easiest to see the mounted volumes is to go into the Finder Preferences, and under 'General' make sure it shows mounted volumes on your desktop. Then you can simply right-click the volume on the desktop to do Get Info...
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers,
    Kris

OK, another question.  I opened a new blank file and the picture I want to move is in the Photo Bin.  That image is 2 in. X 3 in.  But, when I move it onto the blank image, which is 8X10, it fills up the entire space.  I can't figure out how to put it in the new image in the correct size relationship.
Open the picture file, go to Image>resize>image size. Read what the resolution is in px/in, write it down, do nothing else here at this time
Go to File>new>blank file, Enter the dimensions , resolution the same value that you wrote down in step #1, background color to suit, ok it.
Go back to the picture file, go to Select>all, go to Edit>copy to put it on the clipboard
Go back to the blank file, go to Edit>paste
Get the move tool out of the toolbox, position the picture, and resize with the corner handles of the bounding box, if necessary..
Note: For printing, the rule of thumb is that the resolution be in the 240-300px/in range, although I have had good results below this value. For web work, 72 px/in is ok.

I can get close to this functionality but Gmail's cookies seem to be tied to browser history. Pocket's are not. If this is not possible, is there a place I can make it a suggestion or is this something to do with Google.

I have Photoshop CS5, and use windows XP. I cannot open bridge from photoshop, which I have done for years.  When I am in Photoshop, when it opens, I always click on the bridge icon at the bottom of the screen and it puts me into bridge. This is not happening, the small wheel at the bottom of the screen just keeps spinning. Its like its stuck or caught in a loop. I can't get into bridge. I tried shutting down and starting up again but  the problem remains. Looking for help.  Dan

Thanks for your response, I was able to open bridge from File-Browse in Bridge.  This worked, but was not able to go back to the way I always opened Bridge.  At least I could get to Bridge and go into Camera Raw. I never tried to open Bridge from the Start menu.  The odd thing about this is, it has happened before, and to get it "unstuck" and working again, I would shut down and restart again in a few minutes, and things would go back to normal.  This time it did not go back to normal after several attempts.  I shut down for about 3-4 hours, restarted, and it seems to be back to normal again. I am not sure if it's a problem that is getting worse each time it happens.       And yes I am using Mini Bridge in photoshop CS5.  Thank you for your help.  Dan

  • Problem opening Bridge CS5 in Windows 7

When I open Bridge CS5 in Windows 7, I get a pop-up window from User Account Contro that asks "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"  The program listed is Bridge.  If I say NO, Bridge doesn't open.  If I say YES, Bridge opens normally.  This question pops up every time I open Bridge but not with any other CS5 applications or any other program.  Any suggestions?  Thanks,

This is a permissions issue within the OS.  Next time you start Bridge right click on the icon and select "run as administrator" and choose yes.  Perhaps it will stick that way.

  • Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014 fails to open Bridge and wants to install new version

Hey community!  I found a few similar posts, but couldn't find much of a resolution.
Last night I was working in PS CC 2014 and all was well.  Used Browse from Bridge in PS.  Everything is working fine all night long.  Get up this morning, return to work, click browse in Bridge, and Creative Cloud desktop client pops up and says something about installing a new version of Bridge and will get rid of my old version.  The first time I just though it was an update, so I said sure, install the new version.  Then, CC wanted to update a few other apps (PS being one of them), so I closed down everything, and let it update everything while I got a cup of coffee.  Came back and it looked like everything was finished updating.  So I went back to work.  Same thing happens again when I click browse in Bridge.  I tried going directly to Bridge's launch icon and THAT at least opened the application.  It was still open to the same folder I had been using the night before.  I double-clicked on the PSD I was supposed to be working on, and then Illustrator pops up and is trying to open the PSD.
***Ok, so I fixed the association problem with Illustrator trying to open the PSD.  I uninstalled my older version of PS CC last night after I was done working, which apparently broke the "file associations" in Windows.  I just had to go tell Windows to open PSD files with PS CC 2014 (even though 2014 has been installed since it's release and that's all I've been using)***
Still can't get around the Browse in Bridge issue.  It is not a real big deal TO ME where I click to open Bridge, but it does seem like a bug that needs fixing.
    Thanks!

I have the same issue when trying to Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014. When I click "Browse in Bridge" in Photoshop CC 2014, the Creative Cloud desktop client window opens up and asks "Are you sure you want to install this version of Bridge"?
Like you, I also thought it was an update so I clicked' "Yes, install this version" option.
Bridge will launch from the dock icon I have set up, but not from within Photoshop CC 2014.
Any solutions to this bug anyone?

  • Interface Problem Sync/Async (Open Bridge)

    Hello everyone,
we made the migration from PI 7 to PI 7.01 EHP1 SP7.
After this migration, the Sync interface with BPM (Opens Bridge), began to give trouble.
It turns out that the interface in SMQ2 stand still for a long time, and after some time, timeout error occurs.
In transaction SXMS_SAMON, I noticed that some processes are in timeout.
It seems the problem is that the interfaces are entering the SMQ2, in PI can not sue for any reason.
Has also altered the value of the parameter CHECK_FOR_MAX_SYNC_CALLS most did not.
Does anyone have any idea how we can solve this problem ?
    Thank you all.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 won't open Bridge properly

I have just installed Photoshop CC 2014. Now, when I pick 'Open in Bridge' from the File Menu it just brings up the Creative CC installer. It asks if I want to use the current version of Bridge or upgrade. Selecting the current version does nothing. It does not then open Bridge. Selcting upgrade to latest version of Bridge does just that. Restarting Photoshop after the new version of Bridge is installed does nothing to fix this. Picking 'Open in Bridge' just brings me back to the Creative CC installer once again. If I open Bridge manually first, then the 'Open in Bridge' command works fine. Also, if I open Illustrator CC and pick it's 'Open in Bridge command. It works as it is supposed to. Only if Photoshop CC does this problem arise. Any ideas on how to fix this admittedly minor problem?

Now, when I pick 'Open in Bridge' from the File Menu
There s no such command, you can only Browse in Bridge, are we talking about the same??
Can you provide more details about computer, specs and system version, also exact versions of Bridge and PS?

  • Photoshop CS6 64 bit will not open Bridge C6

    Hi,
Anyone help a fairly first poster? (hopefully in the right forum)
I just upgraded from CS4 direct to CS6, all looked fine until yesterday When attempting to open Bridge CS6, the CS4 version kept opening.
After2 hours 'Talking' to Adobe (remote) it was suggested I uninstall PS 6 and Bridge (after deregistering). I carried on working, then first thing this AM, I set about uninstalling, but... I thought I'd try Bridge CS6 first, wooo hoo it works, another BUT...
When I open Bridge it I am presented with the annoying UAC popup -Why? I AM an admin, and none of the other Adobe progs as this.
The other issue is, when I select from PS6 FILE > Browse in Bridge. NOTHING happens.
How can I get Bridge to start from PS CS6 as it should.? (mini bridge works fine)
How can I get rid of UAC only on Bridge CS6?
Windows 7 8GB ram, latest versions of BR, and PS, in task manager bridge.exe IS running BEFORE I attempt to run it from the PS CS 6 menu option.
Any suggestions, or should I uninstall PS6 and BR6 then re-install? (I don't  really want the faff if I can avoid) I am an admin on the PC, and I REALLY want to avoid the suggestions from other folk about setting up a new user.
    Any help, suggestions gratefully accepted.

ALSO, when I start Bridge on its won, I am forced to plead with Win 7 UAC to let me use it. This does NOT happen with ANY other bprogram in the Adobe suite, any suggestions?
