Batch-remove keyword fails

I can no longer remove a keyword from a selection of multiple images--only the highlighted image is affected.  I'm trying to use the shift-return method in the control-bar.  I can't find an easy work-around (I don't want to add buttons for all my keywords).

The mode of the failure indicates that you have "Primary Only" turned on.  There is an icon on the Toolstrip -- click it to toggle "Primary Only" on and off.  The icon is a box with a "1" inside.

  • Batch-removing keywords

For some reason, a bunch of photos in my iPhoto library (v '09) have ended up with a wrong keyword - probably about 200 photos or so. The keyword in question (the name of a lens) is used (correctly) for lots of photos in the library, but I need to remove it from the 200 photos where it shouldn't be. I've googled this several times, but is there a way to batch remove the keyword from several photos without deleting it altogether?
I found a plugin called 'Keyword Manager', which looked useful, but is expensive. Is there a useful (and safe) free plugin I can use to manage keywords in iPhoto? Some aspects of keyword management are great (like being able to flick through photos and add/remove keywords with the keyboard), but on the whole, keywords don't seem to be iPhoto's biggest strength.
    Thanks in advance.

I too find Keyword manager invaluable, and am disappointed to read that it is not working with iPhoto 9. I just sent feedback to Apple, saying that I won’t be upgrading until iP and KM work together. Don’t suppose it is likely that Apple will reach out to the Swedes who created KM, but it is possible. And the Swedes don’t have a forum or email addresses on their site. I’ve even googled their names in an effort to contact them with no success.
Hierarchical keyword organization, and the ability to do searches for “A AND B BUT NOT C” is necessary for photos as for all other data!

  • Removing keyword from multiple images at the same time

None of the documented methods seem to work for me.
1     Select all the images. Go to Metadata > Remove Keyword [my keyword] - the keyword is only removed from the image that is selected in the batch - i.e the one that has the yellow border round it to show it's the active image.
2     Select all the images, enter [my keyword] in the Add Keyword field when Keyword Controls is visible and press Shift + Enter - does the same thing as 1 above (removes it from the active image only).
3     Select all the images, Shift Click on the keyword that I have in my Keyword Controls in the Control Bar - does the same things as 1 above.
So all these methods, which are supposed to work, do not work for me. The removal of the keyword is only applied to the image that has the yellow border showing it to be the currently active image in the selected batch - the remaining selected imaged still retain the keyword. I can remove it "one at a a time" but it would be great if I could find a solution as to why this isn't working.
    Any ideas?
If it helps, I'm running Aperture 3.1.3 in OS X 10.6.8.
    thanks
    Alan

Based on the frequency with which this trips up users, the Aperture team is going to have to add a much stronger visual indication that "Primary Only" is active.  Marching ants, anyone?  Or a pink selection marquee?
At least in the Viewer when multiple Images are selected the thin white selection marquee is dropped when Primary Only is active.  There is no such change in the Browser.

  • Removing Keywords

This is really starting to bug me!!!
I have done a search on this forum about how to remove keywords from more than one image and it sort of works for me... Problem is when I select all the images (Edit - Select All) and then delete the keyword it still only removes the keyword from the first image, or the one with the thicker border around it.
Am I selecting all the images incorrectly?

Select the images and then go to "Metadata" and select "Batch Change"
Make sure you are using the "Caption and Keyword' stincil. Select it and leave it blank.
That should give you an option to remove the keywords.

  • Batch Photo Keyword Editor

Hi there, Mac newbie here, I've only had my mac for a month or so, but slowly getting up to speed with it.
Does anyone know if there is any applications that enable users to batch edit keywords within images? I know iPhoto and Aperture perform such a task, but I dont want to use these as I already have my photos organised on disk, and importing them just adds another step. Ideally I'd like to be able to do this via an option in Finder, that would be very neat.
I then want to create Smart Folders (I am very impressed with Spotlight!) to look for certain keywords. I know this part works, but I've got thousands of photos that I need to add keywords to.
    Thanks,
    Jamin

You really would be much better of using a photo app for this kind of work.
The Finder is a *file browser* and cannot work with much of the metadata that your camera writes to the Exif. I'm pretty sure it hasn't a clue what to do with IPTC.
Dedicated photo apps are about the Photos. Unlike the Finder they write keywords to the metadata of the photos, not file metadata. And that's the standard way to store metadata about your pics. Fr a start, the Finder sorts on File dates, not on the Photos dates contained in your Exif and they are frequently not the same thing.
Using iphoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa etc does not add extra steps. They replace your current workflow with one geared to working with Photographs not files.
Heres an answer I post over in the iPhoto forum when the question of using Keywords comes up.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 25k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast.
    Try that in the Finder.

  • Batch remove an effect from all clips in a timeline

I saw that there, but was hoping to remove just unsharp mask from all the clips but keep colour correction effects.

  • How to batch remove the cache data

I used the Coherence for .NET, and I want to remove some keys from cache. I only found a method Remove(string key) in the Tangosol.Net.INamedCache interface, it can remove only one key each time, it is very slowly.
My cache client and server in different computer.
Does it have a method that can batch remove keys from the cache?

You can remove collections of objects with an EntryProcessor and cache.invoke(). The built-in processor ConditionalRemove() with Always/Present filters should do the trick.
In terms of performance however, note that cache delete operations are always synchronous (even with write-behind) - so removing large sets of objects will be a bottleneck if you have an attached cachestore.

  • Batch remove word doc pages from library

    Hi,
I see there are ways to batch remove or add information to word docs and i have successfully removed the cover page from word docs and put into one document.  Is there any way to remove cover and end pages from word docs in a batch?  I need to
remove the cover pages of over 300 documents and then the last 2 or 3 pages as well.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    thupard

Deleting the first page is no problem, especially if it's in its own Section. Removing pages from the end of the document is likewise no problem in and of itself, but the '2 or 3 pages' isn't something VBA can be left to decide for itself - it needs rules
that tell it how to decide whether to delete 2 pages or to delete 3 pages. If Section breaks at the end of the document are involved, matters can become complicated when header/footer content and differences in page layout need to be considered.

  • Add/Remove Keywords to multiple files?

    Hi Mac users!
Is there a way to automatically add and/or remove keywords from mltiple files?
First I would like to remove all the keywords from many of my files and then assign common keywords to selected files!
One can do it manually, one by one, but that would take a huge amount of time!
Is there any automatic way to do it? Perhaps with a specific application?
    Thanks for your help!

Well I mis-spoke when I said they implemented what I asked for. They actually did something even better.
There's a little text-entry area at the bottom of the keyword panel. You can type keywords in here and it finds them in the list (click the little magnifying glass icon to control how it searches--I have it set to "equals" so it will only do exact matches). When you hit enter, it automatically adds the matching keyword to the files. Or if there is no match, it creates a new keyword and adds it both to the keyword list and the selected files. Use ; to add multiple new keywords at once.

  • How to batch remove PowerPC apps?

Like many of you, I have moved to Lion Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Without Rosetta support old PowerPC apps are rendered useless as you know. I have no burning desire to support these old apps but I discovered that I have hundreds of PowerPC legacy apps littering my startup drive. Short of tediously manually removing each PowerPC apps, is there a way to batch remove all of these apps and associated code? Is there any danger in doing a batch removal like this?
If there isn't a way to do this batch removal might Automator help with something like this and could anyone give me some Automator steps to take to achieve this?
    Thanks!

  • Batch removing objects from a PDF

Hello, I have a PDF with an object appearing on every page of the document that I want to remove. I can select each object individually and remove them one by one, but that will take days (it's a 600 page document). Is there anyway to batch remove the objects?
    Thanks,
    Kyle

I would go back to the program that created the PDF and delete the object there. If the object is an image, you could also try this: Advanced> Print production> Preflight> create PDF layers> Create separate layers for vector objects, text & images> Analyze and fix. Save and re-open your PDF.
Go to View> navigation panels> layers. You should be able to turn the desired layer off.

  • Can't remove keywords from multiple files

    I can't believe I can't get this working.
Say I have 15 images with the same 10 keywords in every file. One of the keywords is "banana" and I want to remove it from all 15 files.
I select all the 15 files. When I do that one becomes "active" (it gets lighter gray highlight than the 14 other images).
I then go to the Keywording panel and manually remove "banana" from the list.
When I look through files to see the change all but the one that was active STILL has the "banana" keyword applied.
I have also tried selecting the 15 files and made the file without the banana keyword active and run "Sync Metadata" and removed "banana" from the "Keywords" field in the dialog box. Same thing happens. No change to the files that aren't active.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Unicorn

Simple. Don't take photos of bananas!
Actually, I believe you need to select the photos in the Grid, not in the filmstrip. Then, removing keywords should work as expected, and then when you try to remove the keyword, this keyword will be removed from all selected photos.

  • Remove keywords from multiple pictures -  how to??

REMOVING keywords from multiple images doesn't work here on Aperture 2.1.1. I select multiple pictures, remove a common keyword from the list in the Metadata inspector and... only the keyword from the picture which I selected last is being removed. All other pictures still have the keyword attached. Edit > Primary Only is not 'turned on'.
    What did I miss?

Go to 'Window' > 'Show Keyword Controls'.
In the text box, write the keyword that need to be removed from all selected images and press SHIFT + ENTER.
If you use the Keyword Button Sets, you can also click on the keyword to be removed while holding down the SHIFT- key.

  • Removing Keywords effecting earlier projects

When I move to a new event, I would like to remove all or most of my old keywords used in the prior event and construct new ones but want the old keywords to remain on my earlier event's clips.  Can I remove keywords used in another event when I am working on a new one without effecting the earlier event's clips with the removed keywords?  Or must I keep adding keywords?

Do you mean the keyword shortcuts in the keyword editor? Changing the shortcuts won't affect any keywords already applied.

  • How do I remove one failing hard drive from raid set and replace with new one

Last Friday apparently one of my raid drives started failing.
As I mentioned on this forum I started getting continous beeping.
I was finally able to get the raid working at a degraded level.  I ordered a replacement hard drive which is arriving today.
(In the meantime I made twice daily backups of my work.....)
Below was the message I got from the browser based raid software:
    Blahblah 09    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 10    1000.2GB     Free                 SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 11    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 12    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
(See this earlier thread if you wish!)
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/727867?tstart=0
At one point when I did the checked the browser interface I saw the message Failed and Degraded
As I said, I was able to work over the weekend on the degraded system.
This morning I got the beeping again and did the rescue and now I am running a "full raid" without the notice that one raid was "Free".
In any case, the new hard drive is arriving today.
What steps should I take to incorporate the new drive into the raid system.
    I have one OS drive
and 4 tb raid drives.   One needs to be replaced with the new one that I am getting today.
    Thanks

    Harm,
    Regarding your comment:
Re: How do I remove one failing hard drive from raid set and replace with new one
Please tell me how to read the serial number from an individual drive rather easily, without un-installing them:
If you select the proper drive to change out, you only need to remove one drive and look at its serial number...
Step 1: Identify bad drive serial number using Areca's tools
Step 2: Turn off the computer
Step 3: Remove what you think is the bad drive based on following your numbered cable method, marked hot-swap bays, whatever
Step 4: Verify that the serial number matches the "bad drive" serial number from step 1; if it does great, proceed; if it does not match, go back to step 3
Step 5: Change out the CORRECT drive - that's the bottom line for this whole procedure
    Cheers,
    Jim
