Reflect on a Function object?

I'm trying to discover information about a Function object at
runtime. Specifically, I'd like to know the number and types of
parameters the Function expects.
Calling flash.utils.describeType() on my Function object
doesn't give me this information.
Calling length on the Function gives me the number of
parameters the function expects (but this isn't documented --
should I not rely on this behavior?)
I can't figure out how to get the types of the
parameters.

  • Reflectively obtain an inner object's outer object

    So, I have an object which is an instance of an inner class. I need to find reflectively the instance of the outer class which is associated with it.
    I might not be seeing the wood for the trees here but I can't see how. Effectively I need an object equivalent of "Class.getDeclaringClass()"
    An example to help explain, if required:
    public class FindOuterObject
         public static void main(String[] args)
              new FindOuterObject();
         private FindOuterObject()
              InnerObject i = new InnerObject();
              Object o = findOuterObject(i);
              System.out.println((o == this) ? "Worked" : "Failed");
         private static Object findOuterObject(Object innerObject)
              // Need to fill in this method to work for any object passed in
              return null;
         public class InnerObject
    }

    I'd say that hints at a problematic design.
    And I'd wholeheartedly agree :o)
    It's a little fudge I'm just currently tring to do. I've got a 'toggle' action which needs to maintain its state, and I want to keep any associated buttons (typically JCheckBoxMenuItems) updated according to the toggle state (which can be modified in several ways).
    The code currently whips through the PropertyChangeListeners looking for buttons and calling "setSelected()" as appropriate, but the PCL registered by a JMenuItem is an inner object. I need to call a method on the button object.
    I'm contractually obliged to work with 1.4.2 so I can't take advantage of the new Swing functionality to do this automagically.
    I'm looking for another workaround and it's not desperately important anyway but I thought it was an interesting poser nonetheless :o)

  • How to use reflection package for dynamic object creation

    I want to convert a "DataObject (SDO) " into "Pure java object".
    For this i want to create a java object with the fields in Dataobject, and this should be in generic way.

    Use Java reflection if you have the java class already created.
    Otherwise use Java IO API for creating the .java file and compile it dynamically by calling javac exe from java code and executing using reflection

  • OracleDbType for function OBJECT return type

    Hi all,
    I inherited an oracle function that has an object as a return type:
    create or replace TYPE OBJECTPATH IS OBJECT (OBJECTID NUMBER);
    create or replace TYPE OBJECTPATH_TAB AS TABLE OF OBJECTPATH;
    create or replace FUNCTION GETOBJECTINPATH ( pobjectid in NUMBER, role1 varchar2, role2 varchar2 ) RETURN OBJECTPATH_TAB
    IS
    v_tmp_tab OBJECTPATH_TAB:=OBJECTPATH_TAB();
    parentid NUMBER;
    rowno INTEGER;
    BEGIN
    rowno:=0;
    parentid:=pobjectid;
    loop
    select objectid into parentid from dual left join (select ro2.objectid from relationshipobject ro1, relationshipobject ro2
    where ro1.role=role1 and ro2.role=role2 and ro1.relationshipid=ro2.relationshipid and ro1.objectid=parentid)
    on 1=1;
    if parentid is null then
    exit;
    end if;
    v_tmp_tab.extend;
    rowno:=rowno1;+
    v_tmp_tab(rowno) := OBJECTPATH(parentid);
    end loop;
    RETURN v_tmp_tab;
    END;
    On my application side, I am trying to run this function and retrieve the return value with ODP.NET as below. However, I am stumped when I need to supply an OracleDbType for the function return type.
    1. What is the OracleDbType I should use for the return type? I read that there used to be support for OracleDbType.Object, but it seems like it is now not supported. I am using ODP.NET 11g. Am I getting the situation correct?
    2. If retrieving an object return type is not as straightforward as setting the parameters (as what I have done below), what is the workaround to achieve it?
    OracleCommand runGetPObjectInPathCmd = new OracleCommand("GETOBJECTINPATH", conn);
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters.Add(new OracleParameter("pobjectid", OracleDbType.Decimal)).Value = pobjectId;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters["pobjectid"].Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters.Add(new OracleParameter("role1", OracleDbType.Varchar2, 255)).Value = role1;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters["role1"].Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters.Add(new OracleParameter("role2", OracleDbType.Varchar2, 255)).Value = role2;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters["role2"].Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters.Add("OBJECTPATH_TAB", OracleDbType.Decimal); // this is not correct as the return type is not a NUMBER
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.Parameters["OBJECTPATH_TAB"].Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue;
    runGetPObjectInPathCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    Thanks in advance for any help and would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi Greg,
    Thanks for your reply. I am not exactly sure whether I am using 11.1.0.6.21. The Oracle.DataAccess.dll I see under my \ODP.NET\bin\2.x directory is of Assembly/Product Version 2.111.6.0 - is this version 11.1.0.6.21? I also do not have the samples directory. Am I working on a wrong version? Thanks for your patience as I am really new to this and appreciate your guidance.

  • Reflection function is not working, unable to click on it at all. Need help! Setting problem?

    Hi all, I seek for your kind expertise advise on my Keynote. Once I've chosen a slide to open, any type of slide at all, my Reflection button or function is unable to be clicked on to perform that function. However, Shadow function facing no problem.
    I can see the Reflection button but it's blurred like not allowing me to click on it at all. Is this cause by some software problem? Or setting problem? iWork has just being installed.
    Appreciate your expert advice and help!

    Thanks Kelly... That's very helpful. Appreciate that very much!
    By the way, if I may ask further, do you know how to how to make the animation like Steve Jobs did during his presentation on Ipad or Ipad2 where the "word" will drop from top onto the centre of the slide with effect or sort of like smoke or dust floating off and dissolved at both sides of the "word"?
    Will be more than grateful to be hear from again! Cheers and thanks again.

  • Why I can´t see the reflection of an object?

    Hello everybody...got a little problem...
    I am using Motion 4 upgrade (bought the FCS upgrade to the 3 version). I don´t think that should make a difference but just in case. I have a nice video wall built on my project, made of 9 different video clips. I would like to have a reflection of it as to simulate a 3D space. All clips are a single grouped object, but when I select the reflection tab of that object in the inspector nothing happens... Any wise advise please?
    Thanks a lot

    Ok... Be patient with me please... I am getting there. So I looked to the Mark Spencer tutorial on reflections and shadows on Motion 4 and realized of course I need a floor to reflect on... I have a background wall made with caustic and gradient effect on... and would like to have it reflected on a white floor. Correct me if I am doing it wrong but I create a rectangle shape and place it as a floor at a 90 degree angle with the back wall... The problem is that I don´t even see my floor...Why? Everything seems ok with the opacities and so...

  • Problems with Reflection API and intantiating an class from a string value

    I want to instantiate a class with the name from a String. I have used the reflection api so:
    static Object createObject(String className) {
    Object object = null;
    try {
    Class classDefinition = Class.forName(className);
    object = classDefinition.newInstance();
    } catch (InstantiationException e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    return object;
    Let's say my class name is "Frame1".
    and then if i use:
    Frame1 frm = (Frame1) createObject("Frame1");
    everything is ok but i cannot do this because the name "Frame1" is a String variable called "name" and it doesn't work like:
    name frm = (name) createObject("Frame1");
    where i'm i mistaking?
    Thanks very much!

    i have understood what you have told me but here is a little problem
    here is how my test code looks like
    Class[] parameterTypes = new Class[] {String.class};
    Object frm = createObject("Frame1");
    Class cls = frm.getClass();
    cls.getMethod("pack",parameterTypes);
    cls.getMethod("validate",parameterTypes);
    everything works ok till now.
    usually if i would of had instantiated the "Frame1" class standardly the "cls" (or "frm" in the first question ) object would be an java.awt.Window object so now i can't use the function (proprietary):
    frame_pos_size.frame_pos_size(frm,true);
    this function requires as parameters: frame_pos_size(java.awt.Window, boolean)
    because my cls or frm objects are not java.awt.Window i really don't find any solution for my problem. I hope you have understood my problem. Please help. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • CASE function problem in forms

    I am using the CASE function in View. Whenever i execute it using SQL plus it runs successfully. I have developed a form on this view and the form does not reflect the CASE function changes. Just an example i am using the CASE function to set the number format but it is not depicting on form.
    SELECT (CASE when TO_NUMBER(123123.12/1000000) < 1 THEN TO_CHAR(TO_NUMBER(123123.12/1000000),'0.99999')
    ELSE LTRIM(TO_CHAR(TO_NUMBER(123123.12/1000000),'999,999.999999')) END) as targetamount
    FROM DUAL

    This is not that diffucult.....I rememeber doing this in one of my forms....
    I would have three content areas
    ContentArea A (Portrait) linked to Subform A
    ContentArea B (Landscape) linked to Subform B
    ContentArea C (Portrait) linked to Subform C
    Now I will set the Min, Max and Initial values for each of those Subform using Binding tab.
    Then I will manage the page layout selection with each of those subforms using Object>>Pagination>>Place and link those to the Content area A B or C based on the layout they should go on. That should do the trick.
    If this is not helpful just forward me a copy at n_varma(AT)lycos.com....I will try my best.
    Good Luck,

  • Casting the Object dynamically

    Hi All,
    I am looking for a way to dynamically cast the object. I am receiving an object which is JAXB object as parameter of a method. This object can be type pf one the 5 jaxb objects my logic is handling. I need to identify the actual type of object and perform some operations on it.
    Each of these 5 JAXB objects have some common method (although these objects does not inherit from any common class) and some methods which are specific to them.
    I can not make changes to JAXB classes as i am importing those as jar.
    I know it will need reflection somehow but i am not sure how to do it exactly. Below code will give you idea what i am trying to achieve. Its giving compile time error as xngEvent is typecasted in if-else block. This is just to show what i want to achieve using reflection.
    public void processMessage(Object inputObject)
    if(inputObject instanceof com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.equipment.XngEvent){
                        com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.equipment.XngEvent xngEvent = (com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.equipment.XngEvent)inputObject;
                   }else if(inputObject instanceof com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.cable.XngEvent){
                        com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.cable.XngEvent xngEvent = (com.att.granite.jaxb.xngevents.dtd.cable.XngEvent)inputObject;

    What you are talking about is called runtime class working. It can do the job you want but for reasons the other responders already mentioned I cannot recommend it for your use case. The primary reasons being the complexity involved, the likelihood that you will need changes that will not be backward compatible, the difficulty in testing and debugging and the difficulty in finding developers that will even understand this approach that can take over after you are gone.
    This type of functionality is very roughly related to the use of dynamic proxies and code injection used by Spring and other frameworks.
    With those caveats in mind this is a link with an excellent example of how to do it and the issues involved.
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-dyn0610/
    For your use case I would recommend the approach you have probably already settled on. But first follow gimbal2's advice and document your requirements and use case and the dependencies on possibly duplicated code sections you previously mentioned.

  • Content aware leaves a reflection on selection.

    When I specify where the replacement content should come from it looks right as I am selecting it but when I let go of the mouse it makes a reflection of the nearby objects.

    I used quick selection tool to select this section of the brown sheet. If I try to use content aware it doesnt get the correct background.
    And how should the function be aware that the wall is the content you want instead of the content that actually borders the selection (the sweaters for example)?
    In my opinion you are not using the tools best fitted to the task.
    I’d recommend
    • lifting part of the wall on a Layer of its own
    • putting that in a Group with a Layer Mask that combines the brown textile and the white wall
    • moving the Layer into position to cover the textile and more or less match up with the wall
    • applying a Layer Mask to the Layer, too, and painting it in in the lower part with white
    • if necessary using a Clipping Masked Curves Layer to adjust the brightness
    Another option would be to lift the content you want onto a Layer of its own and then use Content-Aware Fill.

  • Refreshing Entity Objects after Altering the table

    Hi,
    My Entity Object is based on a table... and View Objects on the Entity Objects. Now if I alter the table (just changing the width of the column), that change is not visible on the Entity Object. Is there any way I can automatically refresh the Entity Objects after altering the table(only column width is changed).
    (Changes made to Entity Objects manually are reflected in the View Object correctly.)
    Regards
    Faiyaz

    'changing the width of the column' means changing the size of the column in the table description in the database. For e.g.. In the original table I had a column OIL_KEY NUMBER(6). Now I change the column to be of size 12 i.e. OIL_KEY NUMBER(12). This does not get refreshed in the Entity Object.
