Battery draining when using Exchange account

Hi,
I'm currently using a iPhone 3Gs with iOS 4.3. I alos syncronize it with a MS Exchange account (manual).
For the last 3 months or so, my battery seems to drain. It seems as if the connection between the phone and the exchange server doesn't disconnect after I've been searching or scrolled in the contact list.
I've tried the following actions but with no effect:
- Rebooting the phone
- Restore to a new phone
- Uninstall the exchange account, reboot and install the account again (makes it work for a few days in best case)
- Close all open applications
- Set the sync between the phone and the exchange account to manual (also in advanced settings)
- Manually drain the battery to empty and after that charged to full
I would be very greatfull for any tips, hints etc since I have to use the phone in my work.
Kind Regards PelleM

Here's a "me too" post. I'd love to hear if anyone makes headway with this. I am the outside Mac geek for a company that has an exchange server, mostly PCs and a handful of Macs and iPhones. All the iPhones are working like a champ save one on which the Mail application periodically stops working with the Exchange account. The calendar and contacts from the exchange account continue to sync just fine, but mail app will simply remain blank when the user clicks on the inbox.
I've been able to kill the account (on the phone) and re-setup and it'll work for 2-3 weeks and then one day simply stop. I've restored the iPhone to factory defaults twice now. This past time I've not restored the contents of the phone from a backup, but rather set it up as a new phone. We'll see if that makes a difference. I've also setup the Exchange mail account as an IMAP account as a backup. Other accounts continue to work just fine when this happens--it's just the Exchange mail account that flips out.
At any rate, if anyone has any additional info/experiences, please post as I'd be curious. I'm hoping this most recent reset will do the trick, but I'm not confident it will.
Cheers,
Stephen

  • E72- Battery Drain When using Exchange

When using the Exchange application my battery appears to loose power quickly. At first I had Exchange to be active all the time. I changed it to connect now every four hours but even this setting appears to reduce battery time dramatically. Are there any settings that allow Exchange to connect, download email and disconnect?
How are users here handing this to allow use but maintain battery time?

I do have a battery problem.  I had an e71.  I had push email configured for 5 email accounts.  Mail for exchange, yahoo mail and 3 hotmail accounts.  The battery never lasted less than 2 full days.  With the e72 I get about 4 hours.  It is so frustrating....I called Nokia customer support...their answer was to send it back to be fixed.  I purchased from Amazon, so I asked Amazon for a replacement, it arrived the next day (great service)... but the same battery life problem.  It is clearly software or firmware not a phone defect.
    Any ideas.
    Thank you

  • Help....Mail goes crazy after update when using exchange account

Since I updated to 10.5.5 my exchange account goes haywire regularly. I was able to get it back up the last time it happened by moving to a IP address for my outgoing server, but this time nothing is working. Any suggestions????

Sry for beeing a bit unclear, still early in the morning :P
    I´d try this:
go to ~/Library/Prefrence/ delete "com.apple.mail.plist", log out and back in again, launch Mail
    Still dont work?
Go to Mail Prefrences/Accounts/ delete your account and set it up again

  • Battery Drain when not in use--Gen 6 Nano

I have used Ipods for years now. Still have an Ipod Classic and a Shuffle that I use regularly. I have been pleased with the battery life, as a whole.
Recently I purchased a Nano Touch--Gen 6. I really like the Ipod + Nike features.
The issue I have is with the battery draining when the unit is not in use. If the unit has been fully charged, I will unplug from computer or wall charger and make sure that: 1)Music/radio is paused 2) Nike receiver is unplugged from Nano. 3) Screen is off.
If I do not use the nano for an extended period of time, say around 12-18 hours, I notice that the battery has drained between 50%-75% even if nothing is playing or "on". Nothing should be draining the battery this far, in my opinion.
I can't believe that this is typical. Do I have a bad battery?
    Your help would be appreciated.

You are not alone. I have had my Nano for several weeks now and have noticed the same thing. I would use it for short trips in the car while I ran errands and find that after only technically using it for maybe an hour or so (over the course of several days), I would already be low on battery. I read the manual and you can only put the ipod in sleep mode. It stays on for 36 hours and only then will it actually turn all the way off. So technically the battery last for several days but that doesn't do you any good unless you are using it for long periods of time all at once. I'm really frustrated because I really like it other than the fact that I'm always having to charge it.

  • IPhone4 battery draining when not in use

am just wondering if anyone experiencing battery draining when not in use? i charge my iphone4 before going to bed and woke up this morning to realise that my battery had drain 22% on stand by... is this normal? can anyone confirm it to me please, thank you

Just an update guys --after draining (on standby) over 20% of my battery charge last week, it has risen to or about 40+% in the last couple of days. I haven't changed any settings or whatsoever. I had to charged it twice during the day yesterday and it was bloody frustrating. anyway, i went to the apple shop today and told them the problem... they scanned my iphone4's battery and it was evident and showed when was the last time it was charged and how much battery life has it lost throughout the day. After scanning my iphone we did not even have to discuss repair or do any setting or software checks. I was gobsmacked --as i did not have to ask for a replacement, I was immediately offered a swap to a brand new iPhone4... lucky me? umm, i don't know...maybe? But the thing is, they seemed to be aware of the problem and they are keeping a low profile on tackling the problem. so my suggestion is if anyone has a battery problem with their unit, take it to apple and have the battery scan. As such, i have to wait and see if this new unit will present the same problem, although i must admit, for some reason, this new unit has a slight different behaviour than my previous iphone4.
Other issues on my previous iPhone4:
    1. frequently dropping signal --not a problem with the new replacement unit
    2. if i turn off my "phone" feature on the multitasking bar, red dot appears on the phone icon and i couldn't make a call as it seemed blocked and it kept asking me to set-up the voicemail feature every time --again, not a problem with the new unit.
    3. even my tomtom app has changed its behaviour, i have discovered new features without updating the app --strange isn't it?
    4. playing NOVA game was a pain with the previous unit as i kept getting network problem and interrupting the game.
    5. it kept shuffling my music when i'm using ipod whilst walking. imagine, hearing about 8 different tunes in a span of 5 seconds...
anyway, time will tell with this new unit as i have kept the same settings from my previous unit and uploaded my previous back-up data and apps. so it would be like having my old iphone4 and we'll see in the morning if it will drain on stand by as well --i hope not 'cos am getting really frustrated with it. oh, by the way, blue tooth feature don't work with my new replacement unit --NICE!!!

  • ThinkPad E455 Excessive Battery Drains When Power Off

I bought a new ThinkPad E455 two months ago with AMD processor and I use Windows 7 (64-bit) as my operating system. The problem is, since a week ago, when I turn off my laptop (completely shut-down, not hibernating nor sleeping), the battery looses 14% in less than 24 hours. This problem has never happened before. When I search for solution, apparently my problem is similar to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E535-High-battery-drain-when-laptop-is-powered-off/ta-p/1249897 and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E530-Battery-drains-and-power-manager-issue/ta-p/1249887 and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E440-battery-drains-when-powered-off/m-p/1527086/highlight/true#M18743. It appears that the power drains happened in other type of ThinkPad as well. Moreover, it seems that this problem is not limited to ThinkPad series (e.g: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2324931/laptop-battery-drains-powered-shutdown.html), and more surprisingly, some of other brands experience this condition as well. My question is, what causes the power drain? I mean, the laptop just worked fine for a period of time (in my case it is two months), if it was trigerred by something, what is it? I looked for the technical updating BIOS solution in http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077068, but unfortunately the series E455 is not in the list. Of course, updating the BIOS using incompatible version is not recommended by the technical support. Please help me.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface When you think the laptop is powered off it's actually in ACPI Power State S5 with power being supplied to the power button and some of the USB sockets. So, when you shut down the laptop and then removed the power cord, if the BIOS version was lower than 1.13, the laptop was still draining the battery.I followed your suggestion, and it seems solving the problem, thank you. However, another problem arises just recently. When I was playing a game on my laptop, the battery capacity is decreasing when the AC power connected (as described by both lenovo and Windows battery gauge). I post this problem in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/ThinkPad-E455-Battery-Capacity-Reduced-When-Connected-to-AC/td-p/2106218. Oddly, the problem (seems) does not occur when I quit the game to windows. Why was this happen?

  • Receiving Error 550 when using Exchange via another software application.

Here's a good one (and I hope I'm able to explain this correctly)....
I work at a hospital where we have a gym facility that is open to employees and also to the public.  We use a client management system called Twin Oaks.  This Twin Oaks software has email functionality that uses an Exchange user account to send
group emails out to clients (this avoids the front desk staffers from having to create email distro groups in Outlook to send out mass emails).
I worked with the Twin Oaks support staff to get the email integration set up with our Exchange server (it was an easy process, entering the SMTP server name then a few other basic settings).
Emailing through the Twin Oaks software works, but only to clients who have INTERNAL hospital email addresses.  The messages are failing to go out to any client that has an external email address (Error 550 states the address is unavailable).
Twin Oaks' response to this is that we have some type of firewall that is preventing the delivery of these emails to external addresses.  This is not the case and I can't seem to find any reason that would prevent the mails from going out.  We
can email external addresses direct from the generic account we set up for this purpose, but for some reason, the mails are not going when they are sent through Twin Oaks application.
We are using Exchange Server 2010.  I can't find any transport settings or policies that would prevent emails from going to external addresses and am stumped as to why this isn't working.
Has anyone else experienced these types of issues when using Exchange through another software application to send messages?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Based on the description, you could send email to external addresses without the Twin Oaks software. However, with the Twin Oaks software, you couldn't send successfully.
For this issue, I recommend you enable message tracking and check whether you could retrieve message tracking log entires when you send emails to external addresses through the Twin Oaks software.
If you couldn't retrieve message these tracking log entires when you send emails to external addresses through the Twin Oaks software, it means that the Exchange server is OK and the crux of the problem is the Twin Oaks software.
Here is an article about message tracking log for your reference.

  • Battery drains when power connected

    Hi,
Early 2011 MBP 17inch battery drains when the power is connected. It seems to be that when the system is having some load battery is discharging even when the power is connected. Is this normal?
    Regards

Yes it is normal, For Mac's that is. Apple doesn't supply a large enough AC power supply to both charge the battery, or stop it from being used, when the system is under heavy load. Once you start to run the system hard it will draw power from both the AC and the battery.

Read the article from which the thread was posted, it clearly defines how to use multiple iDevices on a single computer.

  • Avoiding battery overheating when using MBP in the sun

Are there any ways to keep a MBP battery cool when using it outside in the sun? Or should I just not worry about it?
Today I was sat on my balcony enjoying the Mediterranean sun using my 2014 MBP when Coconut Battery popped up with a notification warning me that my battery was beginning to overheat and that damage could result. It was reporting a temperature of 35.5 C.
So I opened up Macs Fan Control and switched from monitoring the CPU temperature to monitoring the battery temperature. However I get wildly different readings from the 3 battery sensors that MFC monitors compared with Coconut - sometimes the former shows more than the latter, other times the opposite. The hottest either of them registered was 38 C. I tried cooling it by setting MFC to max the fans out when the battery sensor read over 35 C but I'm not sure it made much difference - and having looked at MBP teardowns I know the battery is nowhere near the CPU fan.
I'll be wanting to use my MBP outside more as we move into the heat of summer but I want to avoid battery damage. There's loads of stuff online about MBP CPUs getting hot - something which I think is a silly non-issue - but batteries are definitely more vulnerable to heat than silicon. Any tips anyone?

Thanks, I'm familiar with Battery University. I read a lot of their stuff in some detail a while back when it was quite out of date - I see they've just updated that article so I need to reread it more thoroughly but the only metrics I can see about temperature on that particular page are about battery storage:
"A battery dwelling above 30°C (86°F) is considered elevated temperature and for most Li-ion, a voltage above 4.10V/cell is deemed as high voltage. Exposing the battery to high temperature and dwelling in a full state-of-charge for an extended time can be more stressful than cycling."
It doesn't seem to say anything about the a battery becoming damaged by occasionally heating itself to the mid-high 30s C for relatively short periods as a result of normal use in slightly warmer ambient temperatures.
I've since had more Coconut battery warnings for similar temperatures while using the MBP indoors on my lap at room temperature, and others while the MBP was on a table charging and running some background tasks. As I write this sat in my bedroom the battery is reading 33 C - just 2 C away from the threshhold when the warnings start. This is all well within normal use and should be designed into the unit's normal operating temperatures so I'm not going to give much credence to Coconut Battery's warnings now I don't think.

  • Lenovo notebook E540 Battery drains when it is not powered on

Lenovo Notebook E540 battery drains when it is not powered on. My colleague said that there is a cloud connection being connected during power off and it consumes power. Is that possible? Any resolution?

    Hi Kingchechan,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As far as I know only the Windows update will be accessing to the server, or might be any other 3rd party cloud related application, which might be accessing to the cloud server.
Did you check disabling USB always on in BIOS & Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS
Check running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop might be this is consuming battery power.
    Best regards,

  • Battery drain with 2 Push accounts Mobile Me and Microsoft exchange:

One might ask why I need two. Well, I started with a Microsoft Exchange account,, and now am trying Mobile Me. For now they are both being pushed to me. Do I get extra drain from having 2 accounts? I wonder if I get twice the drainage with 2 instead of 1 account. I had done a restore from backup when I got my new 3GS,, and didn't notice too much drain, but thought I could do better, so I restored a fresh 3.0 firmware, without a backup,, funny thing is, that I thought I would enhance battery life. So far, it seems worse than my restore from backup . All that work, with little improvement to show for it

You are going to get more battery drain with the 2 push accounts. Try removing the Exchange account for one day and see what happens to the battery life.

  • Encoding problem when forwarding mails with attachments using exchange account

    Hi,
I'm facing a special misbehaviour of mail. Scenario: With Apple Mail 7.2 I would like to forward an exchange mail with attachments. The mail is wirtten in german and uses german special characters like äüöÄÖÜ. During editing the mail everything is ok which means all characters are shown in thte correct way. When I send the mail, something magic must happen in the background.
When I look in the sent mail folder and open the mail, all special characters are show as "?". Must be an encoding problem, I gues but I don't know how to fix it.
When I send exactly the same mail with another Apple mail account (non exchange), there is no problem. So I assume it has something to do with handling exchange accounts under Apple mail.
Any idea to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.
    Br,
    Jakob

This is a know issue with Yahoo! Email on the iPhone. When sending email, sometimes it will say it has been sent, while it really has not (and it will not show up in the sent folder).
It has been discussed quite a bit in the forums, so a search will turn up a lot of discussion, but no solid solution. Some say Yahoo is working on a fix, other that Apple is.
The most common solution (which is usually temporary), is to either reboot your phone, and/or delete and reinstall your Yahoo! Mail account on your phone.

  • Battery drain when not in use

Occasionally, the battery in my 3rd generation iPad rins down to near nothing in a very short time, even though I am not using it.  The Ipad has not been turned off, but there are no apps open.  The WiFi is on, but cell data turned off.  Sometimes, when I have set it down for a few hours, I'll pick it up and it is particularly warm and the battery is near dead.  Other times, it seems to hold a charge for several days. When I am using it, the battery drain seems to be normal. Is there something under the hood, as it were, that I am missing? Is there something I have left running that isn't apparent?
    Thanks,

Look in the notifications. there's a ton defaulted to on that you may not need.
Also look to background app update and background app refresh. those also run in the background and can effect your battery.
You may also want to shut down any programs/apps that are running that you may not need. Double tape the home button. You'll see the previews for all running apps on the screen. Flick the preview up and off the screen to close the app. Tap on the home screen preview or single tap the home button to exit the mode.
