BC4J / ADF Faces: Define ViewCriteria at the Iterator in the PageDef

Hi!
Is it possible to set the viewcriteria inside the binding (pageDef) and not on the VO level. I need the criterias only in a special view and not in all the others. If I set the criterias on VO level I have to reset them on leaving a view - this can cause problems, if I use the dialog framework (klick on the cross).
In the API DCIteratorBinding I've found the method 'getViewCriteria' but I miss the corresponding setter.

  • Built-in Create operation - confusing behavior ADF BC4J, ADF Faces

    I noticed a strange behaviour of Create built in. Every time when I try to insert a new row, but validation fails, form displays error message, and then when I correct the field causing validation to fail and commit, I get a whole bunch of validation error, but the first one is saying that row currency has changed. It happens every the time...
    If I enter all the fields correctly for the first time and commit - everything works fine...
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    on the rowIterator, set the refresh property not to refresh on postBack, which is an entry under the ADFContext in the Expression Editor. Otherwise the iterator re-executes on submit

  • ADF Faces selectOneChoice does not raise valueChangeEvent all the time

    When using the following code in my JSF page:
    <af:selectOneChoice id="yearChoice" autoSubmit="true" value="#{selectedDate.startingYear}" binding="#{selectedDate.yearChoice}" required="yes" valueChangeListener="#{selectedDate.valueChanged}">
    <f:selectItem itemLabel="2005" itemValue="2005" />
    <f:selectItem itemLabel="2006" itemValue="2006" />
    <f:selectItem itemLabel="2007" itemValue="2007" />
    <f:selectItem itemLabel="2008" itemValue="2008" />
    <f:selectItem itemLabel="2009" itemValue="2009" />
    </af:selectOneChoice>
    The valueChangeEvent is fired most all of the time, but when you change the choice back to whatever the original was set to, it does not fire. It only fires when you choose something other than the original selection. Even after selecting other values.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Set "immediate" to false on all of the showDetailItems inside the showOneTab. It currently defaults to true (unlike all other uses of "immediate"); we may revisit that decision shortly.

  • Adf faces tutorial - Toplink model is out of sync with the database.

    When running the adf faces tutorial I encountered some problems. The starter workspace uses toplink and the model should be based on the OE schema database objects. However the Customers class is different from the database table, especially the custAddress (but also the phoneNumbers).
    Thus when running the application, the creation and update of a customer (with data for the address) raises the following error:
    javax.faces.FacesException: #{ManageCustomers.doUpdate}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Exception [TOPLINK-4002] (Oracle TopLink - 10g Developer Preview 3 (10.1.3.0 ) (Build 041116)): oracle.toplink.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected OE.CUST_ADDRESS_TYP got CHAR
    Error Code: 932
    Besides, the application is not able to display the address properly (due to the same problem) but shows something like: oracle.sql.STRUCT@43e and it cannot display the order_date (timestamp with timezone) correct.
    I get the impression that the toplink model is based on an old or modified OE schema and has not been updated. I like the tutorial, but I would appreciate it when it is correct and does not contain such flaws as descibed. Please update the workspace.

    Ship missing arch files to the standby arch dest manually and initiate recovery of the standby db.No need to regenerate the controlfiles. You might want to investigate the reason why they were not sent to the standby db.

  • About the recent donation of adf faces

    Just recently I read this article:
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/2007_may/javatoolspreview.html
    It said: "Marking another significant contribution to the open source community, Oracle today open sourced its ADF Faces Rich Client technology, a set of more than 80 rich, AJAX-enabled JSF 1.2 components. Based on this contribution, a new sub-project called Rich Client Framework (RCF) will be created under the Apache MyFaces project. "
    And I am getting a little bit confused.
    Does this mean that the new ADF Faces bundled with the new JDeveloper(11) will be an open sourced version?

    Hi,
    this means that ADF Faces RC that ships with JDeveloper 11 will be give to open sourced. JDeveloper 11 will not be open sourced. We did the same for ADF Faces HTML components of 10.1.3..x which are now available in open source as Apache Trinidad.
    Also, the current ADF Faces libraries in JDeveloper 11 are not the open source libraries. You can get the open source libraries only through Apache once the project goes prime time.

  • Customizing ADF Faces Look & Feel. Some questions & suggestions

    Hi everybody,
    We are developing an application with ADF Faces using JHeadStart. For the moment, I am studying the way we must modify the JHS templates to adapt each element to our needs.
    As it's told in the JHeadStart Developer's Guide, there are two ways to customize Look & Feel:
    1) Modifying the templates
    2) ADF Skinning
    I'm using both methods, but I feel that thay are not good enough to adapt the L&F to our customer requirements.
    My main problem now is in the ADF Table customization. I want to use ADF Table because it offers us a lot of features that are not in the jsf table (the selection column, the table overflow...), and is very usefull combined with the generated JHS code. But at the same time, it doesn't offer a lot of functionality in the look & feel customization. Using JSF Table, I can set the CSS style for headers, rows, columns, the table, I can set the border, cellspacing and cellpadding. But I cannot do
    any of these thing (or at least, I don't see how) with the ADF Table.
    Our customer (a government) have a strict definition of the look & feel of his web applications. They want we use their CSS styles definition file, so they can modify at once the Look & Feel of all their applications. Modifying the L&F through skinning generate other styles, not use the style classes in our CSS (o so I think).
    So, the questions:
    1) There is any way to set the suitable styles for the ADF Table components (headers, rows)?
    1bis) Why, If I have defined a new skin, with only just a few selectors, some styles from oracle are applied? Maybe because the render kit in the 'adf-skins.xml' is "oracle.adf.desktop"? If it is true, how can I make that they are not used, I must implement a render kit or can I use another existent?
    2) Can I decide how looks the select column (for example a button instead of a radio button)? Can I decide where does it goes (right or left)?
    3) There is any way to hidden the text Show/Hide of the showDetail in the table (the tableOverflow), as I can change the icons through skinning? If it is not possible, How can I overwrite the text. I need it in Catalan, but it is shown in English for this locale. Where is the message bundle I should overwrite?
    4) There is any way to force a tree to start fully expanded?
    5) There is anywhere documentation about the javascript functions used in ADF and their meaning? I think for example in the previous question. If I knew which javascript function I should call for expand the tree and its parameters, I could put the call in the onload event of the body.
    6) I use a selectInputDate. I have skinned the launch-icon, and I would like to do a similar thing in the chooseDate that is opened in a new window. But It seems not to be affected for my skinning directives (if I put a chooseDate in the same page, its L&F follow the skinning rules I've defined). I don't know if this dialog is an ADF feature or a JHS generated feature.
    7) There is any way to keep unmodified the id I've choosed for a component? (I mean, an inputText with id="hello" in a form with id="form" will have in the HTML an id = "form:hello", but I would like it to be simply 'hello')
    8) How can I control the position and the size of a dialog (the chooseDate dialog or a dialog I've created)? In the cases I've been testing, it seems the dialog is forced to resize depending on the content. I would like to know if I can establish a fixed size.
    9) There is any way to open a non-modal dialog? (which I could keep open at the same time that another instance of the same dialog)
    For the moment, I think I have no more question. But give me time.... :-D
    The suggestion I've to do is basically more flexible components for a better customization (for example, the styles settings I've talked about previously). ADF components are nice and powerful, but I think they should generate pages that follow the tendencies in the web development: tableless pages (I cannot understand the utility of the objectSpacer existing the margins), use of CSS for layout...
    Any answer, comment or suggestion will be welcome.
    Carles.

    I have been able to make the UIX 2.2 and ADF Faces LAF look near identical by updating the oracle-desktop.xss file within UIX 2.2 as follows
    <!-- Change the accent color ramp to tan -->
    <style name="DarkAccentBackground">
    <!--<property name="background-color">#cccc99</property>-->
    <property name="background-color">#d2d8b0</property>
    </style>
    There are still some differences:
    1) A black line appears on the ADF Faces on the 'menu1' facet selected tab below the text. DON'T KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THIS FROM ADF Faces or add it to UIX 2.2!!!
    2) In UIX 2.2 a bulleted list uses the HTML <li> tag. In ADF Faces it doesn't use the HTML <li> tag rather it constructs the bulleted list using lower level HTML tags with the 'bullet' becoming an image, in my browser this means the disc is smaller in Faces. The motivation for this change I think is explained via this post. Since I have no control over how this specific HTML tag is rendered it forces me to replace the /adf/images/bltdscn.gif file in adf-faces-impl.jar with a larger disc!

    May update this again if there are other things I notice.

  • URGENT: ADF Faces table updating issue.

    I have a project that uses JSF, ADF Faces, EJB 3.0, and the ADF binding framework.
    In this project, I have a page with a databound ADF Faces Table. The table has a number of read-only columns and two read-write columns. I also have an Edit button that allows the user to pop up a dialog box to edit the selected row of the table. When the user clicks OK in the dialog box, the data is passed back to the main page and the table is updated.
    Everything works correctly for the read-only columns. For the read-write columns, however, the table data does not get updated following an edit. This is what I have found:
    1. The table row data gets passed in to the Edit dialog correctly.
    2. The data gets passed back correctly.
    3. The model gets updated correctly (up to and including the database).
    4. Looking at the iterator in the debugger shows the correct, updated data.
    5. When the table row is getting redrawn, the getter calls for the read-write columns return the updated data.
    6. As mentioned above, the read-only columns get updated correctly.
    7. Updating the read-write columns directly from the table works correctly.
    So, the problem appears to be in the GUI layer. I suspect that, somehow, the submitted values of the read-write columns are not getting set properly, but I cannot figure out how to do this.
    Note that clicking on the Edit button results in a partial submit. In the return listener, I add a call to AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(getRecipientTable()) in order to redraw the table (getRecipientTable() is the bound value of the ADF table).
    Please help! We are so close to production and we need to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Ara

    Hi,
    I don't have a testcase for this, so I just come up with ideas to try
    1. refresh the parent container of the table. It seems that the input text components are not triggered to refresh if the refresh is on the table.
    2. If using ADF, make sure the update is performed directly on theiterator (which automatically is the case if you use a ADF bound form for this)
    3. Check if executing the table iterator and then setting back the current row makes a difference

  • [ADF BC | ADF Faces] Updating a table with values updated in transaction

    Summary: A table is based on a view with a bind variable. Based on some action, I update rows in the view so that they no longer satisfy the query. How do I update the table to reflect this?
    I have an ADF Faces page with a multi-select table component on it, mapped to an ADF Business Components view object. The view object has a bind variable (:Status), which is used in the query to only retrieve rows with a specific status.
    The user selects rows in the table that should have their status changed, and then hits a button to perform the action. In the backing bean for the page, the button click is processed and the selected rows are updated to a different status. At this point the transaction is not committed.
    Changing the status of these rows now means that they no longer match the where clause of the view object, yet they still appear in the table.
    My question is, how can I update the table so that rows which don't match the where clause are removed?
    This is a simplified version of the problem I am working on - this needs to work when rows that aren't in the table are being updated so that they now MATCH the where clause and rows may also be added or completely removed.

    Quite an interesting little problem....
    I have created a simple test case to illustrate your scenario - perhaps Steve M could comment...
    My scenario:
    1). create an EO based on the HR.EMPLOYEES table
    2). create an updatable VO based upon the aforementioned EO. Add "COMMISSION_PCT IS NULL" to the where clause.
    3). Add the VO to an app module as usual.
    4). Create an ADF Faces page by dropping the VO from the data control as an ADF table. Show only first name, last name, and commission pct.
    5). Add a command button to the page so I can call various code from the backing bean.
    Now, when I update the commision for the first record to ".1" and press the submit button (the one in the table actions facet), the update "takes" - I assume that it's just in the EO cache at this point. The record still shows on the screen, even though it no longer meets the where clause criteria.
    When I add some code to the command button (#5) to perform a commit - the record STILL shows on the screen after committing to the DB. I can make the record disappear by either (in the same backing-bean method that does the commit)
    a). Re-execute the iterator after the commit
    b). Call "clearVOCaches" on the application module (forces the iterator to re-execute)
    I even tried programmatically adding the where clause back in (via addWhereClause) and re-executing the iterator - no go. I suspect that the only way to do this would be to post the changes to the DB (without committing them) and then re-execute the query. This, however, would be a killer from a scalability perspective.

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

  • Initializing the iterator in a loop - pointing to the first value

    I have two iterators defined as given below. And I am trying to find if they have the same words remove it. It is working fine with the first set of words from the next. When I complete my fist loop and start the second one, I need to initialize the first one to the "0" position. When it finishes with the stop words list and takes the next word from the text, it just starts from the next word in the stop word list. How do I do that ? since Iteratort does not have any further methods than hasNext, next and remove ? what can be done here to point the iterator to the frist position. (As mentioned in the code with the comments).
    Thanks in advance. Please advise.
    Iterator itrText1 = alText.iterator();
              Iterator itrWords1 = alOfStopWords.iterator();
              while (itrText1.hasNext())
                   Object text = itrText1.next();
                   System.out.println("Entering first while \t" + text);
                   //Need to make the iterator go to the initial position
                   while (itrWords1.hasNext())
                        Object sWords = itrWords1.next();
                        System.out.println("Entering inner while \t"+ "Comparing words are " +
                                                                          sWords + "\t" + text);
                        if (text.equals(sWords))
                             System.out.println("Entering if");
                             itrText1.remove();
                             System.out.println("Removed" + text);
                             break;
                        }// first if
                        System.out.println("Exiting if");
                   }// inner while
                   System.out.println("Exiting inner while");
              }//outer while
              System.out.println("Exiting outerwhile");

    If I understand what you are asking, you need to move the initialization of the second interator inside the first loop, as follows:
    Iterator itrText1 = alText.iterator();
              while (itrText1.hasNext())
                   Object text = itrText1.next();
                   System.out.println("Entering first while \t" + text);
                   //Need to make the iterator go to the initial position
                    Iterator itrWords1 = alOfStopWords.iterator();

  • Can't find Javadoc for ADF Faces components

    I have tried to locate javadoc documentation for ADF Faces Java classes, but am not able to find anything. For example, the ADF Faces tag documentation for af:convertNumber has the following comment:
    "Further more information see javadoc for oracle.adf.view.faces.converter.NumberConverter"
    But I cannot find this javadoc anywhere on the OTN documentation site.

    Pls Check this link

  • ADF Faces 16 Components not displaying in Disign Tab

    I am trying to create a page with the ADF Faces Table component. When I add the component to the page it tells me to restart JDeveloper (as expected). When I restart JDev the page shows up blank in the designer tab. The source tab seems to have all the code.
    Also, when I run the project the page does display with the header text but without the table.
    Any ideas on how to get the components to show in the designer?

  • How to minimize Client-Server Round-trip in ADF Faces application ?

    Hi All,
    We have just finished POC on our prototype of ADF Faces + ADF BC application. The POC Emphasizes on Bandwidth requirement.
    After receing the result from the communication provider, including : TCP packets send, Bytes sent from/to server and number of Client-Server Round-Trip.
    There are several part of the application that Must be tuned for the application to run on acceptable performance.
    Here is some page/ function that should be tuned :
    - First page, ADF Read Only Table with two images and some buttons, cause 5 round-trip
    - ADF Dialog Returning Value (as LOV), cause 4 Round-trips
    - On ADF Form, press Commit button, cause 3 Round-trips.
    So the question is :
    1) How to reduce round-trips on ADF Faces application ?
    2) How to minimize the bytes send from / To server on a specific user action ?
    Please give me some recommendation..
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Hi Frank and Steve,
    Thank you for your reply.
    Yes Frank, what I mean by Round-Trip is the traffic between Client and the Server. And Yes, we will use VSAT where the latency is 1 - 1.5 second, so that round-trip matters significantly.
    What I will do is :
    - use minimal skin and No image at all
    - don't use Dialog for LOV because it requires AutoSubmit there.
    - Use 'Apply-Changes' button to do server-side validation before Commit.
    Then do the POC / testing again.
    Thank you,
    xtanto

  • ADF Faces showDetailItem seems to "load" child elements twice on tab select

    Problem Summary:
    Child elements of showDetailItem are being loaded/executed twice. The parent of the showDetailItem is a showOneTab, and the child of showDetailItem is an af:objectImage, which calls a servlet I have written that outputs an image.
    The problem I am having is that when I click on a tab (showDetailItem) my servlet is called twice. It is as if the af:objectImage line of my JSP is executed twice.
    I have proven this with breakpoints in the servlet and printing a message to the console. The doGet() method of my servlet is called twice. Using breakpoints in the JSP I see the JSP is executed/read only once.
    Details:
    I am requesting help with this problem as I cannot solve it one my own. I have tried the following, but have had no success.
    1. Searched the web for a similar problem.
    2. Searched this forum for a similar problem.
    3. Consulted the ADF Developer Guide version 10.1.3.0
    4. Upgraded my version of JDeveloper to 10.1.3.2.0, which has ADF Faces (oracle.faces.dt) version 10.1.3.40.66.
    5. Debugging with print statements and stepping through JSP and servlet code.
    6. Created the simplest JSP possible that I could still produce the problem with.
    The Scenario:
    My goal is to use the ADF Faces showOneTab and showDetailItem tags to create two tabbed panels that will contain a blank tab (tab one) and an image (on tab 2).
    I have written a servlet, BrowserImage, which takes and ID as a parameter retrieves a BLOB from view object and then outputs a jpeg image to the browser. This is done by using the af:objectImage tag and specifying my servlet in the source parameter. The image is displayed fine, but I don't want the servlet to be called twice for performance reasons.
    Here is the simplest JSP that contains the problem.
    Note: I tried to simplify even more by calling the servlet in different ways (jsp:include etc..), but was unable to produce the problem. I think it is key that I call the servlet using an ADF Faces tag (af:objectImage).

            </af:showOneTab>
          </af:form>
        </afh:body>
      </afh:html>
    </f:view>Note: The Java Script code included in the JSP is used to get an application module instance and pass it to my servlet in the session scope, so my servlet can access a view object, which contains the BLOB to output. I thought I should explain this as it may look confusing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    I don't think adding a flag to my servlet will work. I left out some details in the original posting that will likely make the flag solution unusable.
    It is true that when I click on a tab that my servlet is called twice. My main goal is to ensure that the BrowserImage servlet only called when truly needed. The part I left out of the original posting is that if I click on a tab for the first time I can see my messages in the console indicating it was called twice.
    . BrowserImage severlet called (doGet)
    . BrowserImage servlet called (doGet)
    The key is if I click on the tab again I only see the message appear once.
    . BrowserImage severlet called (doGet)
    At first I thought this was the correct behavior, but I now feel this is wrong as I think the image is being cached locally on the client browser by ADF Faces, so the first call to BrowserImage is not made, but for some reason on the second "load" of the panel the BrowserImage servlet is called.
    To summarize the new details, I still think the showDetailItem is "loading" twice, but BrowserImage is only being called once, because the first loading used a locally cached image. This is my best guess, I did not prove this 100%. I did prove that the image is shown on the page before my servlet outputs it this made me start thinking about the client cache. Also I think it is an ADF Faces specific cache because if I use the "img" tag I don't think caching is used and the image is output by the call to my servlet. I don't want to use img for two reasons, 1 I would d like to use the client cache, 2 the img tag will not stay inside the showDetailItem, showDetail Item needs af: components as children it seems.
    So the reason I feel this problem can't be solved with a flag is because I think the image will be cached on the client side and if the showDetailItem is loaded twice it seems my servlet is called once, but it was not required to be called to render the image. I can't use the concept of checking for the servlet being called by the same session in very quick succession, because the real problem I am trying to solve is the servlet should not be called at all, if the client cache had been used.
    Perhaps there is a way for my servlet to determine if the client cache was used, but I have no idea how.
    I should also point out I am displaying images in a table instead of a showOneTab using the same servlet and technique and the client cache is always used correctly, the BrowserImage is only called if the image is not cached on the client. This is why I think this is a showOneTab problem.
    Sorry for leaving out these details, but I did not want to confuse the original posting with too much info. I figured if the tab was only loaded once, the cached image would be used and all would be good.
    Again if you can provide more help I really appreciate it.
