Bean VS class

Hi,
I'm developping JSP applications on tomcat and I was wondering what's the difference between a Bean and a simple class.
I mean the difference between using this:
<jsp:useBean id="nvClient" scope="request" class="clients"></jsp:useBean>
instead of this:
<%
clients c = new clients();
%>
I'm asking that because I can't create bean (the file stop executing at the jsp:useBean line) and if I only use the class, it's working.
Thanks,
Stephane

Hi,
i think Its right what steph said. u need have to include the package name. (if u have placed ur bean inside the package). The main difference between the bean and ordinary class instantiation is in its scope. If u r using the jsp:useBean, ur bean can has its scope in the whole application (if u need). The scope of the class instantiation is with in that page only. Hope u got it!!!!

  • Javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot create bean of class

    People,
    HELP!! I am getting desperate!!!
    I am a newbie when it comes to TOMCAT, but i have been using Blazix before.
    My current system is using APACHE/TOMCAT on a Solaris machine and I keep hitting the same problem. I have gone through the archives but the only thing it states is to check the directory which i have done.
    I keep getting:
    Error 500
    Internal Error
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot create bean of class MyClass
    The code used to work on the Blazix server so i am assuming it is something to do with a config parameter somewhere - but i do not know where. I have checked the directory/package structure and they seem to work. It even serves it when they are html pages not jsp, but obviously wont use the bean. :(
    I can post code if necessary.
    Please help
    Steve

    The FormData.class file is in examples/WEB-INF/classes/ directory.
    Is this wrong? then should it be in a package called examples.steve???

  • Is there a bean or class framework for DatabaseSession?

    Looking for a bean or class framework that supports a rather conventional 2-tier rich client/forms-type application.
    Ideally (1) a bean encapsulating DatabaseSession to support QBE, navigation, insert, and delete functions over a Collection specified as a parameter to the bean; (2) a bean implemting a JToolBar to drive the first bean; and (3) document models to connect the object Collection to Swing widgets.
    Anyone have or know of such a framework?
    Thanks,
    Gerald

    I was just wondering the same thing.  With the new Facebook and Twitter integration, it seems to me that it should be the next logical step for iTunes.
    Also, i love iCloud and iTunes Match, however, with this "cloud" technology now available and working great, I'd like to see iTunes move in a direction similar to Spotify.  At this point, I don't see why (if I have all my music physically stored in my home computer) I have to re-download it into my devices (iPhone and iPad) to listen to it remotely...  It should simply stream right from the cloud, and not actually take up precious space in your devices...  This would be a great fix...
    I use iTunes a lot because I use it to maintain my music collection, which I have built up over the years, but to be honest, I haven't downloaded an album or song since I became a member of Spotify about a year ago.  Its just less of a hassle.  No need to back up your music files because of the fear that you might lose them all, a thought which would sometimes keep me up at night... (It happened to my brother).  With Spotify, all the music in the world is just there...  being administered by someone else... all you have to do is hit play... and pay the monthly fee, of course...
    Anyways, sorry for the long speech...

  • Cannot create bean of class Error

    Ok first off I realize several people have post messages similar to this - but the replys to those messages didn't help me:
    Today the webserver I had my code on crashed - and was restarted.
    Everything is working except for 1 page.
    When I load it I get this error:

    This tells my sod all what's actually wrong - I've tried renaming the jsp, I've tried renaming and recompiling the bean but that didn't help either (yes I redirected towards page to the new bean).
    No-one here has a clue what the hell has gone wrong with this - especially cos I have at least 15 other beans in exactly the same place and they all work fine.
    If you wish I'll post the code of the relevant jsp here.
    Any suggestions?

    most of this is irrelevent but you should be able to find what you need

  • What is exact diff between Bean and Class

    As my knowledge...
    Class should not depends on any specified rules..But Bean should specified on specified rules, like setters and getters....
    is there any more........
    thanks for giving help..........

    Yes, but what are they good for, except for providing
    examples of really bad OO design by just being a
    complicated struct?Look at Spring; an extremely powerful application configuration tool (and much, much more); all possible because of JavaBean conventions. Otherwise Spring would have had one set of conventions, JSF another, Hibernate another still, making programmers' lives difficult.
    Look at the PropertyEditorSupport class - it's fantastic that I can write a standardized String-to-instance-to-String class for a particular type and just have frameworks like Spring take care of the problems generating my domain model from configuration. Using a standard mechanism makes me confident that if, in the future, I ditch Spring, my bespoke property editors will not be obsolete.

  • HELP! - BEAN and CLASS interchange?

    When I setup to a bean like:
    <jsp:useBean id="logger" scope="application" class="Logger" />
    I can use the bean and bean's functions fine in the JSP, but not within functions that exist in the JSP like:
    jspInit()
    it says the "logger" is undefined. Is there a way I can access the logger function within the jspInit class or do i have to redefine a new instance of "logger" within jspInit().
    The whole point is I would like to use the same instance of the class from all the JSPs. Thats what scope=application seems to do instead of instantiating everytime.
    P.S. If I were to instantiate a class like:
    Logger logger = new Logger;
    would I be able to give it "applicate scope"? like a bean can have?
    Really long question, thanks a lot for the help. :)

    Hi yusufm1,
    I can use the bean and bean's functions fine in the JSP, but not within functions that exist in the JSP like:
    jspInit()it says the "logger" is undefined.
    What ever you write in jsp, other than in <%! %> tags, is a part of _jspService() method. The life cycle of jsp has following 3 steps.
    1. jspInit()
    2. _jspService()
    3. jspDestroy()
    jspInit() is the first method of the jsp class that is executed. _jspService is the next method. The statement -
    <jsp:useBean id="logger" scope="application" class="Logger" />
    instantiates a bean in _jspService() method of jsp class. So it is evident that this instance is not available in jspInit().method.
    Is there a way I can access the logger function within the jspInit class or do i have to redefine a new instance of "logger" within jspInit().
    To use the bean instance in jspInit() you should instantiate the bean object in jspInit() or declare it as an instance variable.
    If I were to instantiate a class like:
    Logger logger = new Logger;
    would I be able to give it "applicate scope"? like a bean can have?
    No, simply instantiating a class in the jspInit() method wouldnot provide it with application scope. You have to put that instance in ServletContext (application) to make it available to all jsp pages. If you instantiate a class in jspInit() only and donot put it in application it is not even available to _jspService() method.
    Hope this helps

  • Beans and classes

    Is it possible to use bean not just as storage but as a class- to use methods other then get or set on it? I added a little method that just prints out all of the parameters but what I get is
    javax.servlet.ServletException: foo.Creature.stats()Ljava/lang/String;
    at org.apache.jasper.runtime.PageContextImpl.handlePageException(PageContextImpl.java:536)
    at org.apache.jsp.index1_jsp._jspService(index1_jsp.java:77)
    (jsp page is index1.jsp)
    and in that index1_jsp.java file line 77 looks like
    if (pageContext != null) pageContext.handlePageException(t);
    which doesnt tell me a whole lot. So how do I use methods on beans and how do I make errors make more sence?

    Sure you can call other methods of your bean.
    How are you invoking it? How does it print out the 'parameters'?
    What you might try is wrapping it in your own exception code to see what happens.
    You will need to import java.io.PrintWriter to get this to work.
    <%@ page import="java.io.PrintWriter" %>
    <%
    try{
      call your method...
    catch (Throwable t){
    %>
      ERROR IN MY CODE HERE <br>
      <pre><% t.printStackTrace(new PrintWriter(out));%></pre>
    <%
    %>(Yes I know this code is ugly, but it does work for me)

  • Java.lang.StackOverflowError due to java.beans.XMLEncoder class

    Hello,
    I am using the XMLEncoder class as follows :
    private byte[] serialize(Map decodedBlob) {
    ByteArrayOutputStream bObjOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    if (decodedBlob == null) {
    return null;
    } else {
    try {
    XMLEncoder encode = new XMLEncoder(new GZIPOutputStream(bObjOut));
    encode.writeObject(decodedBlob);
    encode.flush();
    encode.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return bObjOut.toByteArray();
    } The object decodedBlob is of type HashMap and further contains other HashMaps and ArrayLists as its values. Including values in all the childs there are more than a 200 variables conatined in this HashMap. I need to call the above serialize method for some 2000 such decodedBlob objects .However when i do run my program it gives me the following error after processing some 168 objects only:

    hey ... i just found a way out .... when i upgraded to version 6 the error simply vanished ... seems there was a bug in d previous version for the XMLEncoder class. Thanks anyway.

  • What is correct row bean property class?

    I'm trying to extend the WL9.0 administrative console
              and I'm tryign to use the templates provided for viewing
              table form content there. The problem is as follows:
              I define a JSP that shows a table, each row showing data
              from my own bean class 'SponsorListItem'
              --->JSP snippet
              <%@ page language="java" %>

              <beehive-template:template templatePage="/layouts/tableBaseLayout_netui.jsp">
              <beehive-template:section name="configAreaIntroduction">
              <fmt:message key="mysoftware.mgmtconsole.sponsorlist.title" bundle="${current_bundle}"/>
              </beehive-template:section>
              <beehive-template:section name="table">
              <wl:table
              name="sponsorListForm"
              property="sponsors"
              showcheckboxes="false"
              captionEnabled="true"
              controlsEnabled="false"
              bundle="mgmtconsole"
              formEnabled="true"
              showheadings="true"
              singlechange="false">

              </wl:caption>
              <wl:column property="sponsorName" label="mysoftware.mgmtconsole.sponsorlist.sponsorname"/>
              <wl:column property="sponsorCode" label="mysoftware.mgmtconsole.sponsorlist.sponsorcode"/>
              <wl:column property="sponsorId" label="mysoftware.mgmtconsole.sponsorlist.sponsorid"/>
              </wl:table>
              </beehive-template:section>
              </beehive-template:template>
              -->end clip
              My form bean (SponsorListForm) has function
              --->clip
              public SponsorListItem[] getSponsors() { return fArray; }
              <--end clip
              My row bean (SponsorListItem) has the following getters
              -->clip
              public String getSponsorName() { return fName; }
              public String getSponsorCode() { return fCode; }
              public String getSponsorId() { return fId; }
              public String getHandle() { return fId; }
              <--end clip
              So far so good, when I try to view the JSP in the
              mgmt console snippet I get an error:
              java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String
              at com.bea.console.taglib.html.renderer.DefaultCellRenderer.doRender(DefaultCellRenderer.java:36)
              at com.bea.console.taglib.html.TableTag.printTableRows(TableTag.java:749)
              at com.bea.console.taglib.html.TableTag.printTable(TableTag.java:594)
              at com.bea.console.taglib.html.TableTag.doEndTag(TableTag.java:359)
              at jsp_servlet._mgmtconsole._jsp.__mgmtconsole2._jspService(__mgmtconsole2.java:337)
              at weblogic.servlet.jsp.JspBase.service(JspBase.java:34)
              at weblogic.servlet.internal.StubSecurityHelper$ServletServiceAction.run(StubSecurityHelper.java:214)
              at weblogic.servlet.internal.StubSecurityHelper.invokeServlet(StubSecurityHelper.java:120)
              If I set the getters from SponsorListItem to return null I do not get the error - instead I get the correct number of rows with empty content (naturally as I did not give any content, just nulls). So it seems that the cell renderer assumes that the property is of some class other than java.lang.String but I cannot find from the documentation what is the class it wants. If I had the source of the renderer I could go and have a look at there but naturally I do not have that...
              So, what is the correct class to return for a row bean property?

    It appears the assumed class for getHandle() in the row item bean is com.bea.console.handles.Handle which can be found from the console.jar in the server/lib/consoleapp/webapp/WEB-INF/lib.
              If I subclass this item and then make my row bean return instances of these for the getHandle() then I do not get class cast exception.

  • Deploying multiple beans & support classes, related questions

    I have an application that I'm trying to deploy to the latest JServer with Oracle 8i 8.1.6 on Windows 2000. We used JDeveloper to write the code and to deploy the EJBs. I have some questions and it'd be great if someone can answer them.
    All documentation seem to indicate that beans must be deployed one at a time. Is this the case? If not, how?
    If so, what is the "correct" way to deploy helper classes which are used by more than one bean?
    Is there always only one instance of a class in the database, even though I might deploy the same helper class with different beans? If not, is there any mechanism to ensure consistency?
    Can I just update a helper class in the database?
    How do I see what classes are in the database? How do I manipulate them (e.g. delete, change, add, view size) ?
    Is there an easy way to "clean out" the database of all classes, so as to start anew?
    null

    The Java-related documentation was that I was reading. I have a followup question. Is it possible for me to simply deploy some beans without regard for all the helper classes, then at a later point do a load java on all classes that I expect to use, and have it all work?
    Thanks. You've been great help.

    Hi Gerald,
    I will take a stab at answering your questions:
    1. Are you talking about the JDeveloper doc, or the Oracle8i EJB doc?
    2. When you create the Deployment Profile in JDeveloper using the Deployment Profile wizard, any classes your EJB depends on should get included in the deployment archive by the dependency analyzer. You can see the contents of what will be deployed by selecting the Preview button on the Sources page of the wizard.
    If you want to explictly EXCLUDE a helper class because it has already been deployed with another bean, you can choose the Advanced button. Select one of the Library, archive, class pages on the Advanced dialog, and add the class to the Exclude list. Select OK, then check the Preview button again to make sure it was excluded.
    If you are deploying a number of beans that user the same helper classes, the helper classes will get deployed with the first bean, and on subsequent deployments, the process will detect that the helper class has already been deployed and will check to see if it has changed since the last deployment. I believe it uses a timestamp comparison for this, but I'm not positive. If it detects the source and target are the same, it won't redeploy the class.
    If you just want to update a helper class for the EJB, you can use the Java Stored Procedure deployment in the Deployment Profile Wizard, include the helper class in the deployment archive, and do not publish anything.
    You can use the Database Browser in JDeveloper to see what deployed Java Classes, and EJBs are stored in your database. Double-click on the IIOP connection you used to deploy the EJBs (under the Connections node in the Navigator). This will display the Database Browser. Expand the appropriate nodes to view the deployed objects.
    To see deployed Java Classes, double-click on a JDBC connection and expand the Schema node and then the Deployed Java Classes node.
    Many operations are available from the context menus in the Database Browser, including Drop. Others you will have to perform from SQL*Plus or the command line. See the Oracle8i Java Developer's Guide for more information on SQL commands and command line syntax for altering Java objects in the database. This doc, and the EJB and CORBA Developer's Guide are available online from OTN on the Doc pages.
    You can use dropjava to drop all classes that were deployed in a given deployment archive by specifying the name of the jar file used during deployment. Again, see the Java Developer's Guide for the syntax.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • CMP Entity Beans Wrapper Classes Source Code

    Is there any way to have JDev or OC4J 9.0.4 save the .java source file that creates the wrapper cmr ejb classes? It would be helpful when debugging in JDev for it to have the source to debug with. Or even to just see the generated java file from the abstract cmp beans.
    Any one know?
    Tkx,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
    If you haven't already seen it, perhaps this where to find the temperary files created during deployment (from this forum's archives) will help.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.
