BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Problems

For a couple months now my internet would just stop working (occasionaly it would come back on after a few minutes, most the time I had to power cycle and itd be fine for a good 8-10 hours before it died again) and recently it started happening like twice a day.
For the longest time I thought it was this modem Comcast leased me (because its rather old) but today the internet went down (first time today, usually happens 2-3 times a day) so I turned my pc off, power cycled, and it still was down *scratches head*. I tried taking the router out of the situation, internet works now.
I have the latest firmware because I recently updated.
I tried a new cord, didnt work.
I did try resetting the router with the reset button
Im taking a wild guess and saying that the router died? The lights are still on, but im not getting connection.

well better check if you're still able to have a communication to the router by doing some ping test. if it replies then that's a good sign..if not then your guess is right.
if your able to ping it then try opening the setup page of the router and do some mac clone.. and your internet connection behind ther router should be fine now.

No high speed internet yet so she's just going use it for print and file sharing.
    Setup:
Router connected via ethernet to desktop we'll call Sam office
Notebook we'll call Sam notebook connected via internal wireless card
Notebook we'll call JB notebook connected via internal wireless card
    All machines running XP.
All machines show up under "view workgroup computers" in windows.
Notebooks can talk to each other (access shared folders)
Neither notebook can talk to desktop. Get the following error msg: " \\Office is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admin of this server to find out if you have acess permissions. The network path was not found."
Desktop can talk to both notebooks
I've got the firewall disabled on the desktop
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks,

    Hi!
    hope this will help.
Disable all anti-virus softwares on each PC. (norton, mcAfee)
then try to go to this link:
    Enabling File and Printer Sharing
it will tell you how to enable file and printer sharing on the network.
if that will not help, you may need to contact microsft cuz they're the ones who are much more familiar with that issue.

  • BEFW11S4 Wireless-B username and password rejection

I have a BEFW11S4 Wireless-B router and yesterday my router stopped recognizing my username and password, but only after I log in. I am able to log into the main router configuration page after I type in 192.168.1.1 into my web browser and also able to configure the options under the administration and even the security tab. However when it comes to changing any of the options under the setup tab like "internet connection type" or the "optional settings", I am prompted to enter my username and password. I do this, as normal, but this time it does not accept it and continues to ask for it unitl I get a bright red "unauthorized" screen in internet explorer.  I also can not change anything in the "applications and gaming tab" either without it prompting for a password that is rejected, whether or not the password is right.
I have updated the firmware to the latest available for this old router, I have reset the router countless times (using the reset button on the back of the router and using the "restore factory defaults" option on the configuration page), and I have unplugged the router countless times as well. I have also tried using Firefox or Opera thinking that it may have been a web browser problem. I have tried many "simple fixes" because I don't know much about routers, but I do know that my router was working fine a couple days ago and I didn't have this problem. I need to change the internet connection type and also forward a few ports but it isn't allowing me to do so . Can anyone please give me advice on what I should do to resolve this problem?
Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Hi… This is very common issue when you have upgraded the wrong file. So check the version of your router and download the correct firmware for the same. Reset the router for 1 min and try configuring the same. If not, might be flash memory on the router is corrupted. You need another router.

  • BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router Issues

I have been having issues with my router lately. It is a Linksys BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router. It has the latest firmware and everything which was from like, April of 2005 since this is an older router model. I've had it for about 3 years now and have had no problems until this past week. I have Verizon DSL. Anyway, my network connection seems to fail every so often at least 6 times a day at random times. I use WEP security encryption and everything. Every time it fails, I have to reset the router and go into administrator configurations and retype the password then it starts working again. But it is annoying since I just lose connection for no reason when I'm in the middle of something. Even when it fails, it does not indicate that I lost connection or that my connection is weak. It says that the signal is still excellent all the time even when it stopped working and the Internet light is still on. Odd. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or is it time for me to buy a Wireless-G router instead and hope that fixes the problem? Again, I have had no issues with the router and it has been working great for nearly 3 years until this past week and I did nothing to mess with it. Maybe is it just that the hardware is worn-out? I dunno, I just want this problem solved.

Bad DMZ + Portscan = Reboot. I’ve noticed that a portscan will cause the router to reboot if you have a bad DMZ host specified in the DMZ settings. The “Dummy DMZ” is a known method for stealthing Linksys routers, but apparently doesn’t work due to this problem. This problem has been confirmed on the DSLReports discussion board as a problem thats been around for a while, not just in 1.39.2. I’ve found that even with a valid DMZ host, a portscan will sill hose the router. If you turn on the “daignostic logging” (see hidden features section), you can see log entries that say [HH:MMS] Free=xxx, where xxx is getting smaller and smaller until it resets. (Note: this happened with default filtering settings, no spi, block wan, etc)
UDP Traffic Can Cause Reboot. In much the same way as the DMZ problem, sending large amounts of UDP traffic can hose the wireless interface. I used QCheck to send 1mBit of information in 10 seconds from a desktop (wired) to a laptop (wireless). You can see the [HH:MMS] Free=xxx decline. When it gets to 0, the wireless interface activity light goes solid and the router locks. This bug hasn’t been confirmed yet on any message board or newsgroup. (Note: this happened with default filtering settings, no spi, block wan, etc)
hmmm..just curious what model number are you referring to? Is it BEFW11S4 ver 1 or 2???

  • I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?

    Hi
I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.
If that doesn't help, try this support article >   iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router questions

I have the BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router. Did it come with mac software originally? If so, is it possible to get the mac software from your company? Secondly, is there a way to disable the wireless signal on it and use it as a wired router? How would I do this? Would I do it in the network system preferences on my mac or would I need the software that came with the router originally?

    Hi…
Linksys software CD does not operate on MAC  OS. But you can still use the router with MAC. To configure the router with MAC OS connect the MAC to any of the Ethernet port of the linksys router. Login into the router by typing http://192.168.1.1 ( Default IP )  in the address bar of the IE. Leave the Username field blank and type admin as password (If you have not changed the router password.) Using the user interface you can also disable the wireless function of the router.

  • Wireless connectivity problems using IOS 6.0.2?

After installing IOS 6.0.2 on my iPhone 5 I can no longer connect to known wireless sites.  I've been through troubleshooting with both Apple and my ISP and no luck.  I'm thinking there's wireless connectivity problems with this latest update (my iPad 3 is still running 6.0.1 and is fine on my wireless network). Are others having this issue as well?

I am not guaranteeing this fix , but it worked for me , so far. I have an iphone 5 and it had ios 6.0.1 . Worked fine. Upgraded to 6.0.2 and it wouldn't connect with home router most of the time. My son in law an IT guy for the Government came up with a solution. The problem seemed most likely with routers that are bought and not configured and retain the original factory settings. Therefore my phone considers my home network a generic one and I have to manually connect to it. To distinguish the network we did the following.
    1) went to settings on my iphone
    2) choose "my home network" by pushing the arrow on the right
    3) This brought up the network info page. (it says "forget this network " at the top)
    4)DHCP will probably be highlighted.
    5) touch "static"
    6) This will bring up the manual settings
    7) We entered the following.
    For Ip Address 192.168.1.15
    Subnet Mask  255.255.255.0
    Router 192.168.1.1
    DNS 4.2.2.1,4.2.2.2,8.8.8.8
Leave the HTTP Proxy to off
This will assign a static Ip address not a dynamic one and should work.
If it doesn't , go back to step 3 and select DHCP and return to the dynamic state .

  • Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.

Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.
Bought my girlfriend the newest Macbook Pro 13" and began experiencing problems with my wifi the moment we got home. Her Macbook would not connect to our home Wi-Fi while my old Macbook Late 2008 running Snow Leopard connected without a problem. Airport would say that it had a Self-Assigned IP address (168.x.x.x). Did not realize it was a Lion problem until after using her Macbook Pro and becoming jealous of the new OSX, I upgraded. Soon after I was unable to go online. Luckily I had my iPad 2 and I began to scoure the net for help. Ran into allot of suggestions but it was not until I tried the following all together was I able to share the good new, from my Macbook. Hope this works:
First go to Preferences > Network and click on the cog next to the + and - on the sidebar and click Set Service Order
         - Move Wi-Fi to the top and click ok.
         - Set location to Automatic
         - Click Apply
         - Click Advanced
         - Click the "-" on the selected Wi-Fi router you wish to connect to
         - Click Apply
         - Click Lock to Prevent Further Changes
Go to your Mac's harddrive, (Macintosh)
         - Go to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >
         - Delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file
    Turn off your computer
         - push and hold Option+Command+R+P
         - turn on computer
         - when the grey screen turns on you will hear the OS X "ON" sound (for lack of a proper term) and it will momentarily restart.
         - you will once again hear the "ON" sound, let go of all keys.
         - this resets your PRAM
Go to Preferences > Network > Advanced > + sign
         - click Choose a Network
         - Select your network and enter password
Viola!!! I tried this on my Macbook Late 2008 and my girlfriends new Macbook Pro 2010

No you are clearly mistaken. The Self-Assigned IP address problem exists on many Macbook Pro models, including the current model, which I mentioned as being the original computer with the problem. While my 2008 Macbook is older it was working perfectly on Snow Leopard and didn't suffer issues until switching to Lion. So clearly the problem exists on the operating system and not so much the hardware.
I called Apple Support  and they had no fix for the problem and told me that this would hopefully be addressed in a subsequent update. It wasn't until I came accross the answer after trying many different methods that I got both of the Macbooks to connect to my router. Otherwise I wouldn't or could not have been surfing the internet for the last 4 months.
    Cheers.

  • Macbook Pro Wireless Connection Problems

I bought my 13 inch macbook pro 1 week ago and I've had wireless connection problems from day 2 (I think after the updates).
    Problems include:
    - Safari cannot connect to the internet for 5~10 minutes after I turn it on, whether it be from sleep mode or completely off or restart (the fastest connection I got after turning it on was about 40 seconds)
    - Loading takes ridiculously long and eventually Safari cannot find the server
    - Airport signal (on the top right hand corner) is always full when it is not working
    - Sometimes internet works but it is ridiculously slow
However, when the wireless connection stabilizes, Airport Signal is 2~3 bars full and internet works SOOO well and I love it so much when it does. But the problem is that it stabilizes like 30 minutes to never after I turn it on and it makes me so mad I want to explode this piece of crap in the microwave.
So I've called apple support, and they made me try four things:
    1. Reset modem, router, and computer
    2. Delete caches, reset Safari
    3. Putting Airport first on the Service Order and resetting DHCP Lease
    4. Connecting with Ethernet Cable then resetting the computer
None of these worked, and I'm suspecting that the cause of the problem is the hardware (not the aluminum body that's just bs) because my router and modem are working fine (my other samsung laptop is working perfectly). I don't think the problem lies in my network settings either because I did exactly what the Apple technicians told me to do. So after Appleguy made me try all 4 of those diagnostics, he told me to contact my router company NETGEAR because he thinks nothing is wrong with the mac hardware, so I did. The NETGEAR lady told me if one laptop is working and another isn't, there is nothing wrong with the router. So if nothing is wrong with my hardware, software, router, modem, ISP... Why do I have wireless issues????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm going to return this <edited by host> or get another one with my warranty

    Same thing here.
I've got a Macbook Pro 15" bought 6 weeks ago, airport express bought about a year ago. All updated with latest software/firmware, etc. Problems include:
-Sometimes when i pull down the network list, my network isn't even there, yet i'm still connected to it. My airport is appx 10 feet away in an open area.
-usually after opening safari or firefox for the first time upon sleep, restart, or just opening the program after i had quit it, it is miserably slow. it takes about 2 minutes for pages like msn.com to load. finally when they do, its faster than you can imagine. that lasts for about a minute. then its slow again.
-when logged into ichat and i send messages, i would sometimes get a "connection timeout" message. my buddy would end up getting the message about 5 minutes later.
My iphone and dell laptop work fine. i haven't tried running parallels, but if bootcamp works, so should prlls.
I've reset the modem about 20 times. i've reset the airport about 20 times. i even re-installed my OS on the mac and nothing has done it.
Weird thing is that i've had my mac for 6 weeks, and this problem surfaced only 3 days ago.
Clearly its not an issue of any of our ISP's. Due to the fact that this only started for me 3 dyas ago, i'm hopeful that its only a software problem and not something else. Hopefully apple will a) ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM HERE and b) FIX IT.

  • A Fix for Wireless Connection Problems

I’ve been struggling with connection problems for a week. Thankfully, I found a fix. Your mileage may vary, but this may be your answer:
Fix for Wireless Connection Problems on MacBook Pro

Yeah BR, please tell me what your cure is. I have the same setup as you, Vista with the same wireless card you have. Cannot stay connected to the internet. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support and they can't fix it. I hate this f....ing computer, will never buy another one. Please let me know what you did. Once I get it running right I'm selling it and will buy a cheap Dell, never have any problems with them. I have keyboard problems, capital letter problems, connection problems, and download can take 1 to 2 days. Pure BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wireless printing problem

I have wireless printing issues. Here is the setup. I have a desktop pc (windows xp) with a wireless router. I had an HP printer connected to the pc and had a pc laptop and mac laptop with wireless cards for internet access and sharing the printer with the desktop pc. All was going well. I bought a new imac intel core duo and got a canon ip4200 for free. I replaced the HP printer with the canon which is now connnected via USB to the desktop pc. The pc desktop prints fine. The new imac connects to the internet wirelessly, no problem, but will not print correctly. At first, after selecting the canon printer on the imac it would print a document in a very small font in the upper left corner of the paper. After downloading new drivers, tech support, etc it will not work at all. Canon says that the ip4200 is not a "network printer". Is there any way to make this work without changing my whole setup? I am a computer novice!

I had similar problems setting up a printer on my iMac that was hung off a windows PC. I ran 'Bonjour' on the PC and set the iMac up again and all worked fine after that.
    Worth a try.

  • Broadband/internet and wireless connection problem...

Towards the end of 2101 I received an email informing me that BT would be upgrading my local line and I could expect a much improved service. Whether this 'upgrade' has been the cause of my problems or is merely coincidental I cannot say. Prior to my experience since this time I could count lost broadband in hours per year (I never had internet or wireless connection problems).
Since the end of 2010 I now regularly lose my broadband completely every six to eight weeks. 'Home Hub cannot connect to broadband.' There is a worsening loss of speed? over a period of two to four days at the end of which I need to phone BT three/four/five, etc. times until they manage to locate the problem and fix it. It is always some problem they find on the line or with their equipment.
I always mention that this is an ongoing problem. Never do they take any action to escalate the issue.
This week things have become considerably worse.
I have started to lose my internet connection now. 'Safari cannot connect to the internet'.
There are now two issues which arise concurrently.
I phoned BT, finally the operative in India (through a very poor BT wireless phone connection) changed the channel of my router for me. He mentioned something about changing the address and password. This seriously exacerbated the situation. My password is not recognised now when I am asked to reconnect by selecting a network.
The next occasion on which I lost my INTERNET connection and tried to reconnect I got the message 'Airport has the self-assigned IP address (...........) and is unable to connect to the internet.
I phoned BT to report this and was told that this indicated an adapter problem and the problem was now out of BT's hands. I Should contact Apple.
I did so. Apple said I should contact BT to change channels. I explained this had caused the problem and they were now refusing to assist me. Apple tried everything that they could think of to resolve the issue (despite not being required to do so). Eventually the only suggestion they could make as BT had refused to help was to reinstall my operating system. Extremely drastic. But I can now connect wirelessly again.
Service is still intermittent requiring constant restarts to regain connections.
BT's response to a formal complaint was more of the usual banal questions, the usual tests, the usual promises of 'something would be done'.
Their systems are not set up to make any sort of accurate diagnosis of customers' issues. They seem to have a set number of 'fixes' into which they try to fit all problems - one would assume simply to save costs - their cost saving exercises are now costing me money.
    That's all for starters.
    Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem, since BT "upgraded my broardband" my home hub looses internet connection at least twice a day and I have to power reset it. the broadband shows as connected but the internet connection is lost, if I try reconnecting it fails and only a power resetr will work. I have a temp solution by fitting a time switch to the mains adaptor and reseting it at 0200 each day. but before the upgrade the home hub had worked for years and no problems. i have also replaced the origonal home hub 1 with a home hub 2 to see if that improves the situation.

if you start your own subject just cut and paste your post and then in order to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • C4580 Wireless Printing Problem

We purchased a C4580 a few months ago and successfully installed it into our home network.  We eventually had to replace the printer cartridges and went with the high-capacity HP cartridges - then we noticed a problem.  Every time we print out a test page on the printer, it is perfect; however, every time we submit a print job wirelessly the page is a mess!  The wireless print jobs are full of gaps, incompletely printed lines, and doubly printed letters.  AARRGGHH!!!  I am thinking of loading an SD card with a print job, inserting it into the printer and seeing if that will work.  I have updated all software and have had no luck so far in overcoming this wireless print problem - any suggestions?

I was going to lead you to this page to download and install the Full Feature driver.  I also noticed that there are quite a few updates for the software and printer on the same page.
I still think you should install the full featured driver, but if it persists, try some of the updates?

  • BEFW11S4,ver2 - connection problems through wireless routers

I have one desktop, running 2000, connected to the BEFW11S4, via ethernet. I have another desktop, running XP, connected via ethernet. I have one laptop running XP, connected wirelessly to the router. And I have another laptop running Vista connected wirelessly to the router. I have set them all up on the same network, to get IPs automatically. The router has IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0. Computer 1(1st desktop) is 192.168.1.100, Computer 2 (2nd desktop) is 192.168.1.101, laptop 1 is 192.168.1.102, and the last laptop is .103, all on the same subnet as the router.
I can get to the internet from all computers
All computers can ping the router, 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.100 can ping the router, but none of the other 3 computers.
192.168.1.101 can ping the router, and the other desktop (.100), but not the two laptops
192.168.1.102 can ping the router, and the first desktop (.100), but not the .101 or .103
192.168.1.103 can ping the router, and the first desktop, (.100), but not the .101 or .102 IPs
I have network and file sharing enabled on all four computers, and they all show up in my "HOME" network, in My network places, on all four computers.
I have two printers connected to the 2nd desktop, (.101), with printer sharing enabled on both of them, yet I cannot get to either printer from any of the machines...which make sense, since I can't ping them...but, doesn't make sense, since the computer their connected to shows up in my network...(may try hooking one or both printers to the .100 machine tomorrow and see if that works.
I had it working before, but I think I had to set IP addresses manually in each machine, and it had to be a different network than the default 192.168.1.0 network. I haven't tried that again, (I'm getting burntout with everything I have tried).
Whats the problem? Do I have to set static routes in each machine? I wouldn't think I would have to since they are all on the same local network, and all on the same workgroup.
I had the same problem setting up a two machine network at my wifes daycare as well. The desktop machine is running XP, the laptop is running Vista. Both machines on the same network, and workgroup, with file file and printer sharing on, but I can't get the laptop to connect to the desktop printer. What do I need to do that I am not doing right now?
(Edited subject to keep threads from stretching. Thanks!)
Message Edited by JOHNDOE_06 on 01-22-2008 05:26 AM

as I said in the 1st post, I have file and printer sharing turned on in all the machines already. and I have doublechecked it twice, and reset it twice on all machines.  Tonight I was finally able to ping all the machines, and print to both machines, but only after I set the IP address in both desktops manually to a 192.168.5.0 network.  I left the two laptops that connect wirelessly to assign ip automatically, and restarted all the computers again, and then I was able to ping all machines, from all machines, and get to the two printers.
If I manually change both desktops back to the default 192.168.1.0 network, and follow the same restart procedure, they don't work.  doesn't make any sense...

  • Model BEFW11S4 wireless router just stopped working with Mac; still works with Windows

I have the above model Linksys wireless router, hard connected to a Windows XP Pro desktop unit. I also have a Windows XP Home laptop. My wife has a Mac PowerBook laptop. On Thursday last week her laptop started having trouble connecting to Internet. Problem is intermittent--sometimes can get on and sometimes now. When on it might connect to a web site normally or sometimes takes a long (as in loooooong) time connecting. My XP Home laptop continues to connect quickly and will move from one URL to another easily; no problems. She took the PowerBook to Panera and got on the Internet with no trouble. She was on for at least a half hour and suffered no outage or slow-downs. Came back home; got the same problems as before. Only thing that has changed is a big snow on Thursday, same day as the trouble started. The relationship is probably non-existent, but it's the only thing different from Wednesday (when working well) to Thursday (when started having trouble). Any thoughts? I naturally welcome any responses. Thanks, Michael Plog

Hello people. I'm having the same weird trouble: I'm having this BEFW11S4 to which I connect via another wireless AP and a switch a Windows XP PC and a MacBook Pro computer (both with Ethernet cable connected to the switch, to which the AP is connected). Both the above computers work seamlessly, but sometimes the other iMac I have in WLAN doesn't surf anymore. It can ping both MacBook Pro and Windows XP PC, but doesn't anymore ping the BEFW11S4. Wireless connection is crypted with WEP-64 bit key. When this is happening, also from the Windows XP PC I cannot get on the web interface of the BEFW11S4. It seems to be "locked" somehow. After unplugging the power and re-plugging it in, everything works again also on the iMac. Anybody managed to solve this issue? What version of Firware do you guys have? I have 1.50.13... regards.
