Beginner CSS multiple stylesheet Question...

Hi,
I am a complete beginner. I've followed through the Dreamweaver beginner 'Check Magazine' tutorial to create a site and it's straghtforward. My site is small, a tourist guide, basically a three column/main image homepage like the tuotorial and then around 25 pages featuring different places with identical main column and a thinner right column layout. (I've created a template for the 25)
My question is regarding CSS stylesheets. Now obviously I have used the CSS stylesheet to set the size and background colour etc of my Div Columns in the homepage as in the tutorial. But my 25 pages have different column widths and background colours to the homepage. Do I need to create a seperate stylesheet for each page?
Or does each div column get a different name on each page? (div#right_column 1,2,3 etc) Or I need to learn another step?
I've looked in the beginner guides and they all explain one stylesheet, but don't elaborate for when you start adding new pages and want to edit them.
I know I have a lot to learn! But I don't want to go further learning a bad habit or misunderstanding and wasting a lot of time when a simple answer would really help me at this stage. It's fine if someone knows a good guide or tutorial that covers this that they can link to as well.
Thanks in advance!

If I understand this correctly, your home page is the only one that has unique styles.  The other 25 site pages share the same styles.
Create one external stylesheet for the 25 pages.
Use embedded CSS on the home page for styles that are specific to that page.
Embedded CSS goes in the HTML document between the <head> and </head> tags like so.
<style type="text/css">
unique page styles go here....
</style>

  • Beginner CSS problems and questions

I'm trying to learn CSS, but first, I have to knock out this simple site for a client, CSS or not, asap.
    Problem #1:
    Here is the page:  http://larrysullivandesign.com/sourceprintmedia.com/_contact.html
Here is the style sheet: http://larrysullivandesign.com/sourceprintmedia.com/sourceprintmedia.css
I want the email link the same font size as the text around it, which is:
    class="bodycopy-content"
I don't understand why it appears in the text-links page bottom (class="link-typeA") size.
    Problem #2:
Dreamweaver WYSIWYG shows the text links at page bottom in the #00F blue, (see attached jpg: "scrncap_DW_WYSIWYG.jpg) when clearly they should display only as the grey in the external stylesheet. In the browser, they look good. Frustrating, DW bug?
    Problem #3:
I tried to merge all the CSS into one style sheet but no matter what I try, DW won't let me. Now I have 3 CSS categories. (see attached jpg "scrncap-csspanel.jpg")  How come I can't have any/all style sheets in one?
    thanks in advance!
    -Larry

    Problem #1:
You have defined a font size (8px - which btw, renders extremely small on my 1440x900 laptop, suggestion to follow) for the "a" tag.  Because of this any link regardless of where it is will be that font size.  Personally speaking I would recommend taking the font-size off of the "a" tag in your CSS document and then let the other classes control the font size throughout your page.
    Problem #2:
You defined a class fine, but links do not work on a class.  They will always work on a:link, a:active, a:visited, and a:hover.  With this in mind what you need to do to change the color of links in a particular area is to do the following:
    .link-typeA a { CSS stuff goes here }
That will change the links in that class to have certain features.
    Problem #3:
This has to do with code in the header of your page where you have re-declared link styles.  Delete that from your page and you will be set
Now back to Problem #1 about the fonts.  Your best bet is to use "em" to define your font size.  Think of the EM like a multiplier.  It takes the default size of the end-users settings and 1.1em would be 1.1x larger than the default font, 2em would be twice as large, and .5em would be half the size. This way your text is readable on all screens regardless of the end-users resolution.

  • Multiple stylesheets per topic

    Hello,
I like to create multiple stylesheets for management
purposes, rather than having one very very large stylesheet which
can be used for all topics in my help project. Is there any way
RoboHelp can support multiple stylesheets per topic? I also want to
avoid duplication of rules between stylesheets, so using single
different stylesheets for different topics is not a good solution.
In particular, I'd like to have a single 'general' stylesheet to
provide my 'general' formatting. Then, some topics will include an
additional supplemental stylesheet to provide specific formatting.
Currently, for these topics where I need special formatting,
I need to make the rules unique, and add them to my standard (now
    growing very large) stylesheet.
    Thanks in advance!
    Mitch

    Hello Leon,
I don't want to start an argument on this topic, but I would
like to quote a couple of experts in the area of stylesheets, then
quote the W3C itself, since you mentioned them.
Simon Collison, from Beginning CSS Web Development, Page 10:
    Multiple Style Sheets:
Consider a style sheet that contains all of the rules you've
created for an entire site. Let's say that the site is equivalent
in size to the BBC web site, which is very, very big indeed. All
the styles required would result in one long, unmanageable style
sheet, so splitting the style sheet into manageable chunks is a
    much better option here.
Andy Budd, CSS Mastery, page 24
For a simple website, you can get away with using a single
CSS file. With larger and more complicated sites, it can be a good
idea to separate your styles for ease of maintenance. How you
separate your styles is a matter of choice. I generally have one
CSS file for the basic layout and another for typography and design
embellishment. This way, once the layout is set, I rarely have to
go back and change the layout style sheet. This also protects my
layout styles sheet from accidentally being altered and breaking.
You can abstract things further by creating a separate CSS
file for color. Then, if you want to offer different color themes,
it is easy to create a new color style sheet. If you have lots of
forms on your site, you may want to create a separate CSS file for
all of your form styles. You can then link that file only when it
is needed, thus reducing the initial download overhead. If you have
some pages on your site that are very distinct from the rest of
your site, you may want to consider splitting these off into their
own CSS files. For instance, if your homepage layout is very
different from the rest of the site, you may want to create a
separate CSS file for the homepage.
Now, if you'd like to visit
    http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/present/styles.html#h-14.3.1
    you'll read:
14.3.1 Preferred and alternate style sheets
HTML allows authors to associate any number of external style
sheets with a document. The style sheet language defines how
multiple external style sheets interact (for example, the CSS
    "cascade" rules).

  • Best app to import and study multiple choice questions.

    Hi,
I'm searching for an app to help study for an exam.
Part of the studying strategy is to study by the previous exams questions. I have those (a lot of them) in text format.
The app would need to have:
    - Support for multiple-choice questions;
    - Easy, fast and automated way of importing the questions;
    Would be nice to have:
    - Ability to include a rich-text comment along with the right/wrong answer;
    - Support for tagging each questions.
I've used the search function and found this:http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1041085 but it's been a while since then.

  • Multiple Choice Question Issues

I am embedding a quiz within my presentation with individual
question slides interspersed throughout the presentation. These
questions are pulled from a couple of different question pools. I
want to use a multiple choice question that branches to different
parts of the presentation depending on the correct or incorrect
answer. If the user answers the question incorrectly, I send them
to the next slide which has two click boxes. On this slide, they
can either click one box to move back in the presentation and
review the material or click another box to move them forward to
another multiple choice question. If they go back and review the
information, they would eventually return to the same multiple
choice question to try it again. (This is the desired navigation,
    anyway.)
What actually happens is that when the user goes back to
review the information and then finally returns to the question,
the question has not been reset and still shows the incorrect
answer marked with no way to clear it.
I have used this same navigation on a drag-and-drop type
question and it works fine. All the settings for the
multiple-choice questions are set the same as in the drag-and-drop
    question.
Any help in making this work correctly would be greatly
    appreciated.

I can't see where that error might arise except possibly for a case where an AS2 radio is used since it appears they don't have a group property, but an AS3 radio button does.  Check to be sure that your Flash Publish Settings are set to use AS3.  AS3 errors normally have error numbers which also makes the error you quoted ring of an AS2 scenario.
Here's a link to the file I made based on your code that works fine and doesn't display the errors you mention.  It is a CS3 file.

  • Multiple choise question, limit number of options

    Hi,
we have a multiple choise question with 10 possible answers. 5 is correct, and 5 is not. How can I limit so the user only can check 5 answers? Right now, the user can check all 10 and get full score.
    Im using Captivate 8.
    Kind regards,
    Pontus

    Hi,
I am relatively new to Captivate (currently using version 7) and have also been looking at this.  I have a programming background so have been mucking around with trying to create this using advanced actions so would appreciate some advice if I've gone about it the right way or not.
I have created 4 answers with clickable smart shapes to show whether they are selected/deselected.  I have variables to store the number of allowed answers, number of selected answers and question score (which update with the selecting/deselecting of each answer).  To keep things simple, I am assigning 1 point for every correct answer selected and only have 2 correct answers.  There are 3 separate 'submit' buttons (one worth 0 points and not included in quiz, one worth 1 point included in quiz and one with 2 points included in quiz).  Depending on the answers chosen, the relevant submit button will be made visible (and the others hidden).
What I'm having trouble with is that the points from the submit buttons that are included in the quiz are all contributing to the total points available.  I want the question to only be worth 2 points but because I have two buttons (one worth 1 and one worth 2) that means the total points available for the quiz is 3.
Any help on where to go from here much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

  • Creating Multiple Response Questions.....

    Hi.
I'm looking at updating a load of Java Applets here at work
    accross to Flash.
I'm not looking at using the quiz templates but wondered if
    anyone can help me out?
Basically I need to create a multiple response question using
an xml file and was wondering on the best way to achieve this?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I need to use an xml file for the questions and answers.
And there are more than 1 correct answer for the questions.
I'm pretty new to actionscript so a few pointers in the right
direction would be a great help to me.
Should I be using the xml component? The dataset components?
Check box components for the questions?
How do I get the xml to interact with the flash.... sorry for
    all the questions.

  • Attach multiple stylesheets to one tag (body tag)

    Dear People, Hi.
This is a first for me since Adobe bought Macromedia, so
    please be patient................
    Anyway.
I want to attach multiple stylesheets.
What I need to do is to attach the stylesheet to the body tag
to make a repeating backgorund header bar.
Then I want to attach a small graphic just below the header
    bar BUT...it is NOT repeating...
And then I want to attach a third small graphic which will be
repeating but in a different direction.
This is to anable the page to be fluid no matter what size
the browser window is as the top, topright corner, and left colour
images will form a frame for the page.
Because I want it to be fluid so it will size dependant on
the browser window, I cannot simply create ONE image of the frame
and set it to right alignment......
I do hope this makes sense !!!!!!!
    Thank you in advance

You don't attach stylesheets to the body tag.

    Sorry - it doesn't.
Can you show us your page, please?

  • Adobe Captivate 8 system variable "cpQuizInfoAnswerChoice" is empty for random multiple-choice questions.

Does anyone run into this problem when capturing the user answer for a random question slide? Adobe Captivate 8 system variable "cpQuizInfoAnswerChoice" is empty for random multiple-choice questions.

    Hi Shriyansh.
The reason I am interested in capturing the user answers in Submit All situation is that I know after I published the test using SCORM 2004, all the user responses were captured in "cmi.suspend_data" because my test can resume the test to the last exit question in the middle. However, when I looked at the suspend data value, I have a hard time to understand the pattern and pick out the meaningful user question responses data. I really need help from you to understand how the suspend data value was constructed and how to parse this data. Another area I thought it's easy to get the user question responses data is the interaction records, but I always got only one question (the last randomly sampled question) interaction record. See the following generated XML SCORM 2004 4th edition data. Could you help me figure out how to interpret the following suspend data to get the users responses to each test question?  And why I only got one question interaction record? Thanks again for your help, Zhuoran.

  • Beginner CSS questions

I previously designed an html website in Dreamweaver MX 2004
that I need to switch over to CSS. I've been studying pages and
pages of tutorials, and have some questions that haven't really
been addressed, or else I've been missing the point!
So far, I've successfully created a simple, external .css
file that had paragraph and heading rules, linked it to an
existing, table-based, html test-page, published it, and it worked
    fine.
Now I want to get away from using tables to using divs, and
there's a sample layout in DW that I selected: Two column, elastic,
with header and footer. Now I'm confused.
In the sample page, along with css rules and instructions,
    there are paragraphs of content:
    <h1> Main Content </h1>
<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing
elit. Praesent aliquam, justo convallis luctus rutrum, erat nulla
fermentum diam, at nonummy quam ante ac quam. Maecenas urna purus,
fermentum id, molestie in, commodo porttitor, felis. Nam blandit
    quam ut lacus. </p>
Question #1: Does this mean this isn't supposed to be an
external style sheet? Because I'm pretty sure one doesn't put any
content on an external style sheet. Can I turn this into an
external style sheet, and what do I need to do in order to
    accomplish this?
    Question # 2:
As mentioned above, my first foray into an external style
sheet worked fine with one of my table-based html pages. What I
fail to grok is when you set up an external style sheet with divs
how exactly do you put your content on your page in design view? Do
I need to convert tables to divs, which would be on each individual
page? Then am I giving up having the divs controlled by an external
style sheet? I don't mind making all new html pages to be
controlled by the divs on a css, but then I'm back to the first
question - how do you place content on an html page, when the divs
are supposed to be controlled by the external ss. This seems to be
a never-ending loop in my mind!
Many thanks in advance for trying to straighten this out!

Not so much the one on CS3....

  • CSS layout - two questions on sidebar

So I'm having trouble with my sidebar:
    site
    1. I want to get it to stretch to the bottom of the div it's
in, with a 10 px margin on the bottom, basically, stretch exactly
the same distance down as the main content div. I get the
impression this is tough in CSS, but there has to be some work
around? I don't think I can use faux columns in this instance,
though if it's possible please explain how.
    2. This isn't really a big deal, but it'd be nice to have a 1
px black line on only the left side of my sidebar (I have one drawn
onto the actual images, it'd be nice to do that in CSS). Is this
    possible?
Thanks a lot and sorry for the beginner questions.

I have another question about the same site. In IE I'm
    getting this:
    pic
    In Firefox I'm getting this:
    pic
Firefox is much closer to what I want, but I'm not sure why
IE is showing up like it does. Seems the margins are changing and
IE is padding my sidebar for some reason. Any ideas?

  • Beginner CSS confusion

    Question 1
How do I center the content-panel div on the page, on every page in the site?
I can't find any way to select it and center it or to center it in the css panel.
Why isn't there a command for adding an align=center property to this content-panel in the  CSS panel under Add Property? There's only align text...
    Question 2
I'm trying to follow advice (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/583861?tstart=0) on having multiple color link styles and want to know if my .css looks "normal"?
    http://larrysullivandesign.com/test/test0225.css
I'm doing CSS tutorials in my spare time but have to fix and deliver an almost-finished site asap

There is no such CSS property as align center.  This isn't a DW thing.  It's a W3C thing.
To center page(s) you need the following:
    1) a valid document type (DW does this for you when you open a new HTML page),
    2) a container width,
    3) margin-right and margin-left of auto (browser defined)
    .content-panel {
        font-family: "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
        background-color: #FFF;
        padding: 15px;
        height: 500px;
        width: 800px;
        margin:0 auto; /**centers in modern browsers**/

  • Multiple Images Questions

    Hi,
I am a total beginner with Flash however I have bought a
template for my website and wish to make some additions to it.
Basically when the template loads up it always has a main
image present and the page options down one side. What I would like
to do is have multiple images set for the opening image so that
everytime you enter the site you will view a different main image.
I'm sorry if I haven't explained this correctly. If you
follow this link www.gsa.ac.uk and hit refresh a few times you
    should get what I mean.
Is there some sort of online guide I can follow to do this ?
    Thanks
    Euan

Aperture excels at converting your digital negatives from RAW, organizing them in any way you want, and developing each Image to be as good as you can make it.  It is not, however, a graphics program -- the difference being, primarily, that graphics programs are built from the ground up to perform compositing.  Photoshop, and the like, are excellent at compositing.  Aperture is not.
    The answers to your questions:
      1.  No.
      2.  This is actually a more complex question than it seems.  With Aperture you can Lift adjustments from any Image and Stamp them onto any other Images.  For panoramas, however, what you want is not "the same exposure _adjustment_", but rather the same final exposure.  There is no way to do this, afaik, in Aperture.  Good panorama stitching programs will make adjustments for you to even out the shot-to-shot variation in exposure.  You should not use any automatic exposure modes when capturing the pictures you intend to stitch together.
      3.  Let the panorama program do it for you.  I make RAW captures, convert and stack in Aperture, export as TIFFs, create the panorama (I've used Hugin  -- open source and free -- and found it excellent for my modest needs), import it into Aperture and set it as the Stack Pick.  I use Aperture to make adjustments to the imported panoramic Image.
