Beginners question - making sense of form, item, pane & variable (with relation to where data is stored in the SQL database)

Hi Everyone,
I am new to writing reports (SQL code) for SAP, however I am aware that inside SAP Business One it is necessary to enable System Information (from the View menu) in order to see which tables (and related table attributes / column names) are related to various aspects of the various SAP 'modules' (e.g.: A/R Invoice).
Using an A/R Invoice as an example I can see at the row (or line) level that an item with the description of 'Opening Balance Transfer' is contained in the table INV1, within the attribute (or column) called Dscription.
However not every 'on screen object' shows a table / attribute. For example in the same A/R Invoice if I hover my mouse over the Balance Due field all I see is Form related information.
My question is 'How do I make sense of the Form, Item, Pane, Variable information?', with relation to where data is stored within the SQL database?
Links to online tutorials explaining how this feature of SAP Business One will be much appreciated, along with any personal advice regarding working with this information.
Any (and all) help will be greatly appreciated.

1.Here I am explaining use of each field except pane
a. Form ---> Used in additional authorization creator
b. Item, column--->Useful in creating Formatted search queries (FMS)
c. Variable --> Some of the field values based on another values. ie. indirect values.
d. INV1---Table name
2. How to get variable?
As per your second attachment, to get balance due ,you need doc total field from OINV table. For example,
SELECT T0.[DocNum], T0.[DocTotal] FROM OINV T0 WHERE T0.[DocNum] = 612004797

in an IR i have created a Date Picker Item. This item i want when user enters page to have a default value. Also when the user clears this field i want the corresponding item to get a default value. i have achieved the 1st but not the 2nd. I need this replacement in the item value because it its needed in a between where date expression in the report query and i want to have the bind variables only, not NVL them in order to avoid scanning all partitions of table. Thi item is used as an extra search field in the Report and it is included in the Page Items to Submit | Advanced Report Attributes.
How can i do this ?

Normally you could, but IRRs are a little different. You can use the page rendering options, but page submit options will not fire when the report is being redrawn.
To get you started, add this to the item's HTML Form Element Attributes:
onblur="this.value = $v('PX_HIDDEN_DATE_ITEM')"Then just create a hidden date item and give it a default value. This will keep you from having to get into JavaScript date formatting which is terrible when compared to Oracle.

Do I need to use javascript to get a text field in a PDF form to aut fill with current/today's date?

I have a form for booking appointments and would like the date field to automatically fill with
today's date and to print. I have set the text field's format to "Date" and when I place the cursor into the
date field, today's date shows. It disappears as soon as I tab to the next field.
Does this action require a javascript script to fill and print today's date? If so, where do I find that?
Or is there another way to format the text field (besides typing today's date) to get the current date?

From the examples by Chris Dahl, I edited the script in the text field editing dialog to reflect the title I had given the field. That fixed the problem of today's date disappearing as soon as I tabbed to the next field.
How do I choose for document level or page open script? I would like it to insert the date upon opening the document.

Web Forms using substitution variables with multiple values

Hi,
I am trying to select a substitution variable in a webform (Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3) with multiple values in EAS, but is not working does somebody knows if this an expected behaviour.

Please let me know something, since as far as I recall in previous versions of Hyperion Planning this was possible.

We experienced the same issue, our requirement was that for the first half of the year the substitution variable was = Oct and for the second part of the year Jan:Dec. We were lucky that for the second scenario we had a Total Year member as well (that at the bottom level is Jan:Dec). So on web form we picked Level0 descendants of the substitution variable. That worked fine but not the range.

Let me give some details and break up the problem
in more specific questions:
- In Designer 8.1 I click new data binding --> wsdl -->

A message box comes up and says "cannot load wsdl file"

Why maybe refuses Designer to load the http-wsdl,
although this option is explicitly allowed?
- When I save the wsdl to a file, Designer loads it
without any problems. The web service uses two input parameters
(CountryName and CityName) and returns an xml-string GetWeatherResult)
like the one in my first posting. I drag these fields from the binding view to my form, and it runs ok!
- THE PROBLEM IS, THAT I NEET TO EXTRACT THE ELEMENT FIELDS

Capturing Data from forms before it is stored in the table

Hi...I would like to capture data from a form before the data is stored in the database. that is, i would like to access whatever data is entered into a field right after the user pushes the Insert button. I would like to do some processing on the data and then store it in the table along with the data from the other fields. Is it possible to access it through a bind variable or something? Please tell me how to go about it. Thanks

You can make of the session variables to access the values. Every field in the form has a corresponding session variable with the name "A_<VARIABLE_NAME>". For example for deptno the session variable will be "A_DEPTNO"

Submit pdf form data to sql database

Where I can find detailed information on the process of sending data from pdf form stored on the website to the sql database stored on web server ?? Where I can find some samples I could use to build my form and related script(s).

What does it mean that DSN has to be set up on each machine which will run
the form ??? Does it mean for each person who will use the form ?? or
rather once on the server where the form is hosted ??? It will be a bit
difficult to use if it will have to be installed on each user computers as
some users may not be happy to do it. If this is the case do you have any
solution you would recommend which will collect the data from the form
without asking users to do anything special on their computers ????

submit pdf form data to sql database
If you want the form to contact the DB directly you will have to set up a
DSN on each of the machines that will run the form. Note that this wil
only work on Windows machines. Also the form must be launched for the
script to run (you mentioned the PDF was stored on the web server). I have
some samples that show how to deal with a DB but the attachments do not
seem to be working correctly on the forum yet. If you cannot retrieve them
post your email and I will email them to you directly.

I have noticed the following:
when I change column C011 (price) the following values are set in the dynamic action:
P110_ID = f11_1
P110_VALUE = whatever I change the price to.
when I change the column C024 (hms_flag), the following values are set:
P110_ID = f03_0001
P110_VALUE = whatever I change hms_flag to.
the region is refreshed in my dynamic action, and the change for hms_flag does not hold. I have tested the SQL query that generates the value for v_SEQ in the dynamic action.   In both a change to price and HMS_FLAG it appears valid

field c024 references f03.
the Dynamic ACtion, step 4 calculates v_member by taking a substring of P110_ID...and in all other fields, the column and the field (fxx) are the same value....except for c024.
I am not certain exactly how to resolve, but see the problem.

I guess the real question is:
when sending an email from with in the app, how do you build the syntax to have a button with in the email to take the receiver of the email into the app...
or in the email have a comment textarea and a button
When the email user clicks the button it sends the textarea to the app and updates it.
how do you make it so if the request comes from the email you don't need to logon?
As I typed this I kinda am getting ideas... just to build a form within the email but it is the ? form action line I need to know how HTML_DB needs the syntax to be...

Programmatically-customizable Forms items?

I have a DB table that stores a list of questions and data types/sizes/usages of the answers required by the user of the form.
In a multi-record database block, the form currently lists the questions, and supplies a Text Item to capture the user's answers, and then provides validation code to check for the proper data type & number of characters.
I would like to be able to use the data type/size/usage information that is stored with each question to create, at runtime, an appropriate item (numeric text item max length 3, or character drop-down list box, or character text item with an LOV, etc.) for each question record. In other words, one record could have a drop-down list box, while another record could have a numeric text item.
I think that I can create separate fields for each type of item, and then enable/disable the fields when required, but this solution is less elegant than the programmatic solution that I desire. I can also remove the multi-record property, to remove the restriction that all items in each record must be the same, but, again, this solution is not elegant.
Is there a way to do this programmatically in Oracle Forms 6.0.5.0.2 for Windows, or with an OCX, or some other add-in?
We do not have Oracle Applications in this group. Is there a way to get "FlexField" without having Oracle Applications? (I don't know what functionality "FlexField" provides, but it was suggested as a solution to a question by Shahid Hafeez on Feb6, 2001, in the topic "User Defined Fields/data items", which is similar to my question.)
This is a normal requirement these days as administrator-type users (as opposed to data-entry end-users) of applications want the ability to dynamically customize the app for their usage.
Oracle needs to address this issue by creating the ability in Forms/Reports to create customizable apps.

What you are requesting is not possible in Oracle's development environment.
'Flexfield' is a feature of Oracle Applications which is a bunch of fields of certain tables to be used in the future without having to redesign table/database structures. It does not give you a dynamic data type assignment to records of multi-record blocks.

Populate tabular form items based on LOV in header

Hi,
I have an LOV (Select List with submit) defined as the item in the same region as a tabular form. I'm using the first row in the LOV as the default value.
Following is the query for the LOV:
SELECT team_code ||' - '|| description as d, team_id as r FROM cp_teams ORDER BY team_id
If the user selects a value in the LOV it would then automatically refresh the tabular form based on LOV's return value. But initially I want the tabular form to be populated using the LOV's default value.
Problem 1) When I log in for the first time and navigate to the page, the LOV displays correctly but it shows an error below it:
report error:
ORA-01722: invalid number
Surprisingly, after I have submitted the list more than once, I never see this error again until I exit.
Question 1) Does this mean that for the first time, the LOV is not being "submitted" and thus tabular form underneath it has nothing to show?
How do I automatically submit the lov as soon as I navigate to the page?
Problem 2) I have a field (item) TEAM_ID in the tabular form's query which should take the TEAM_ID passed from the LOV for every new record that is created.
Question 2) How do I initialize this field for a new record from the "header" LOV? The ultimate objective is to have the TEAM_ID populated for all the records created in the tabular form.
As you can see I'm a newbie to APEX so I'd appreciate any help.

1. what is the null value for your header LOV. I usually use 0 or some other numerical values. You will need a computation for that LOV with a condition ITEM VALUE IS NULL in
order to run it only once per session.
2. In the properties of your column - Tabular Form Element - you can set the default value
to an item value (application or page item name).

Popup "balloon" over form item

I am have a form based on a table and am wondering if it is possible to have information come up either in balloon style (there only while mouse is over the object) or in popup window format (small window user must close, as seen with the oracle help "?" feature). The purpose would be to give the user a small blurb of detailed information about what they are supposed to be typing in that text area in the form. And then have that functionality for each of the text areas in a form. Does this make sense?

Hi Arpit,
Just start with the first element, select it, click the tab "Item" in the left (the 100001 you name seems like the form Id) and start wo name it "AAA", the next "BBB", and so on.
If you've changed all names, you can be sure that none of the items has the id "1". Now select your buttons and id them as "1" and "2". (And eventuallay rename all the other items other id's, if you like)
Remember; after you change the value, hit <ENTER>, because if you tab or click out the id field, the value will not change...
And, if all above does not work, start with a brand new form, and start by adding the two buttons...

Making a JSP Form read only based on the form value present in DB

I need suggestions/examples as i am newbie into java stream.
I have two JSP pages 'Add Page' and 'Edit Page' .
Add Page -> In add Page,I have many text boxes,select drop-downs options. In one select drop-down I have values as Locked and open .I can save this page contents in DB by entering those form values.
Edit Page -> In eidtPage,once saved in DB, based on 'select drop-down- Locked and open' If it is locked i have to make all the fields (text boxes and select drop downs) as read only and if it is open i have to make it editable.
I am taking all the values from DB,setting to 'form bean' and then setting up the values in session and forwarding it to JSP page to populate there .I am using beehive net UI tages in JSP. Please help me out.

Not sure I'm following what you want, but this might help:
In your select tag, put something like an 'onchange' event that calls a javascript function. In the javascript function it you add code to enable or disable your other fields based on the item selected from the drop down box.
To determine what item was selected in a select tag, you write something like the following. I'm not sure of the exact syntax. You can look it up in a javascript book:
var optionSelected = document.forms[0].selectTagName.options[document.forms[0].selectTagName.selectedIndex].value;
To enable or disable a textfield, search for this in google:

Some Questions on Adobe PDF Forms

I have some questions on Adobe Forms development (especially Adobe Forms in ABAP)
1)     In a form interface, in the Code Initialization can we use Object Oriented Syntaxes such as class method calls, etc?
2)     Can we declare Global Data variables with reference to Class References / Interfaces
3)     Can we use the latest ECC 6.0 enhancement framework to add code in the standard form interface to enhance / enrich some logic within the form? This is to avoid copying the form interface into a Z in order to enrich the form via coding?
Please let me know if this is possible at all and how

That is possible of course. You should use the PDFObject API for that requirements.
1. define a xml schema with all data given by SAP system.
2. create a form template which uses this schema as data connection
3. implement a java application (i.e. J2EE application) which:
- gets the data from SAP system and generates some pdf files (using PDFObject API)
- reads pdf files back to xml and submits the data to a BAPI
