Belkin Share Router and Apple TV

Can anyone tell me whether the Belkin Share Router (or do I need the Play or PlayMax for iTunes) is capable of creating the wifi network that Apple TV requires. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I bought one today and don't want to open it unless it's right. The people in the mac shop told me that I didn't need Airport Express or Extreme. Sorry to sound like a luddite

just got the ATV to show up for the first time!!! had to run the ethernet cord from the ATV straight to my computer.. its syncing now and thats all I really care about. I have a 50ft cat5 cable that runs from my living room, upstairs to my room. guess thats the cost of this thing actually working?? im in college so when we have parties at least my comp will be upstairs.. out of the way and i can control my itunes from my iphone!

  • Belkin N router and HD 1/2 is Ok and the other?

Hi to all, this is my problem/scenario:
Belkin N+ modem/router and a HD connected (FAT32) via USB port.
A PowerMAC G5 connected to the router via N300 dongle (airport disabled).
A MACmini C2D connected to the router via N300 dongle (airport disabled).
Ok, the HD is perfectly browsable when I'm on the G5, but on the mini there is no sign of the HD.
The belkin icon in the upper bar on G5 is blue, grayed out on mini (but internet connection is fine).
Same OS level (I mean, last available patching 10.5.8 PPC/Intel), same kind of dongle (a Belkin N300),
    same installation CD from belkin.
    Some suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Luca

Perhaps keep the G5 turned off while you fix the Mini.
Is there something strange about Minis mounting disks? - See:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4474591?tstart=0
Does it mount if you don't use wireless?
Does repairing the Mini disk and permissions change anything?

  • Set up Time Capsule w/ belkin modem/router AND DSL splitter

    G'day,
I've got an existing network set up and would like to add the Time Capsule into the network. I'd like to use my current hardware if possible but am willing to purchase stuff if I need to.
There are some posts on my model of Belkin modem/router, but it didn't really help me.
    Here are my machines:
    1) PC - desktop (ethernet networking card, Windows 7,
    2) Laptop (wireless networking, Windows 7)
    3) Macbook Air (wireless networking)
    4) iPhone (wireless networking)
    Here are my hardware:
    A) Wall socket
    B) DSL splitter (3 x ports - port for line, port for phone, port for modem)
    C) Cordless phone
    D) Belkin modem/router (model number F5D7633-4A - 1 x ADSL port, 4 x Ethernet cable ports)
    E) Time Capsule
Here is my current set up:
Wall socket > phone cable > Splitter > phone cable to phone, phone cable to modem/router > ethernet cable from modem/router to PC
This solution gives me internet access via the ethernet cable to the PC and via the Belkin modem/router wirelessly to the Laptop. However, I haven't been able to connect my Macbook Air to this network yet - it doesn't seem to work.
So my question is, how can I include my Time Capsule into the network. Will I need another modem? I read about a bridge but I have no idea what that is or where to find that setting.
Also, can someone explain how to get my Macbook Air to connect to the network?
Can someone talk me through exactly what extra hardware I need and what I need to do to set it all up?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for chiming in. Could you talk me through how to do that? I'm a numpty and just haven't figured out which ports to plug which cords into, etc. If you or someone else could dumb it really right down that would be sweet.
Also, the Belkin is a modem/router, not a router. I am under the assumption that I need a modem to access the internet and that the Time Capsule is just a router.
    Is that right?
    Chris

  • Optimizing Experience of Family Router and Apple Devices

I'm very much a layman, but I've been doing a ton of research the past couple weeks on the following topics for optimizing my Apple World.  I know a lot more about basically what these terms mean and this stuff is, but honestly, the way it all effects each other has me more confused.
Here's the equipment that uses internet and is applicable to my questions. DirecTV Genie OnDemand, Apple Macbook late 2008 Aluminum 5,1 (with latest firmware), Apple Macbook early 2008 Black, Brand New Apple iPad Air, 2x Apple iPhone 5c's. Internet is local ISP in Oklahoma called Wavelinx (I live outside city and it works in my area), they provided us with a Netgear N150 router.
1: I upgraded my Apple 5,1 late 2008 from 2x1GB RAM to 2x2GB RAM.  Results were awesome! But it still trips up on me.  Is upgrading further to 2x4GB (I have latest firmware) advisable and worth it?  When I check my Activity Monitor, I frequently have 8-10 open applications with 100+ Mbps.
2: I've been downloading torrents and other stuff and maxing out my 160GB SATA HDD.  I'm considering an upgrade to some sort of SDD HD.  Is this worth it?  I'd probably only get about the same size or even downsize in storage because...
3: I'm shopping for a WIRELESS external hard drive.  Considering the Seagate 2TB or the Apple Airport TB.  I will then connect wirelessly and backup all movies and data to this, theoretically keeping my internal HD relatively empty.  Recommend the Apple Airport?  And if I got the Apple Airport...
4: Would this also handle my need for an upgraded router?  My ISP customer service said there have been issues with people using Airports as routers.  But he said once I've got it going should be okay.
5: As far as routers, I learned about 802.11ac, and so I was limiting myself to only those capable routers. Then I learn this morning that my Macbook can't even support this. But there are adapters available.  Is using an adapter with my Macbook late 2008 advisable?  If so any recommendation for an affordable one? And if not, then what is the best router type that makes sense for me to get?
6: FYI, my Macbook works okay most of the time with current internet.  But the phones and the iPad are a pain. I frequently will disconnect them from wifi and use internal because the speed ***** and I'll get 1 or 2 bars.  Would the 802.11ac routers help them but not my Macbook?
Essentially if you were me, with my exact equipment, what would you do and what's worth upgrading?  The external HD is a must.  But is the extra 4GB Ram worth it? Is the upgraded router worth it?  If so, is it worth an 802.11ac router?  If not then any suggestions?
Please don't advocate any replacemen devices at this point. I'm trying to get improvements and do too many things to go buy a brand new Macbook.  Although the SDD drive is a consideration on my Macbook, because I don't wan tto invest a lot and have the new OS not be available on it.  But if the SDD will make it "lightning fast," then I'd say it's worth it. The early 2008 Macbook is my wife's, and she could care less.  Thus no questions.   If I get new RAM, I"ll install my old in hers but that's about it.
Thank you very much in advance. I want to become an informed Mac/Apple User and when and if I do, I will pay this knowledge forward.  My specialty is writing and journalism.  So if any of you need some help or advice there, I'd love to return the favor to anyone that takes the time to help me.

I'm new to this forum, and I read the guidelines but didn't have time to read that closely.  Was trying to regurgitate all of this text during my break.
So if I've written this wrong and I seem like an idiot nobody wants to help, or I've broken a "cardinal rule," or code of Mac User Forums, I am sorry. And if someone will just say "hey man, nobody's going to reply to this." Then I'll take more time and repost or break my questions down into sections.
The reason I put it all together, is one thing I'm finding out as I try to educate myself on this stuff. Is how interconnected this all is.  I was about to buy the 802.11ac router last night, not having any clue that my Macbook type may not even support it.  But then also, my Macbook works just okay, I can deal with it.  My main complaints about speed are with the mobile devices.  However, if an adapter for 802.11ac is advisable, I'll by all means get one.
So anyway, I'm trying to make some informed decisions based on the whole picture here.  But if this isn't the way to get a question answered, someone please inform me.  I'll not take it personally.  I'm by no means smart enough to handle IT type stuff, and I desperately need someone that has some knowledge that I only wish I did.
    Thanks.

  • ATT 4111 Router and Apple AE Base Station

How do I set up my ATT 4111N Router to work with my AirPort Extreme Base?

Items that can cause interference with airport are:
    Microwave ovens
    DSS
Cordless telephones that operate in the 2.4 GHZ range
Adjacent base stations using nearby channels.
Any new electronic equipment been added recently? Could be a neighbor's equipment as well.
Lastly, do you have the most recent AE firmware installed?

  • Third Party Router and Apple File Protocol

    Hi,
I'm not quite sure, if this is the right forum for my question.
I use a Siemens Gigaset SE505 (ADSL2) Router for my WiFi Network and for the communication with my ISP. Before that I just used a switch, ethernet cables and no ISP-connection.
So i thought hip hip hurry, now i can go online and connect my G4 Powerbook and my G5 via AirPort. But wait...since I use the SE505 Router i cannot connect to any of the drives of the other computer via AFP. Instead i have to use the slow and unstable SMB.
    Why?
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Update: I just found out that if i use the syntax afp://192.168.0.101 instead of afp://SHARINGNAME everything works out fine.
But I just can't see why. Isn't the sharing name supposed to function as well as the internal IP???

  • New Apple TV cannot set time and date. Have unplugged both router and Apple TV, have gone to settings could not restore  , but could reset again stuck on date and time . Suggestions

    Date time Apple TV

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the steps already taken, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

  • Can I use Airport Express with Comcast router and Apple TV?

I want to connect my iPod Touch (version 8.1.2) to a home stereo wirelessly.  I am considering getting an AE Base Station.  I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.9.5 connected wirelessly using a Comcast router.  I also have an Apple TV, which I have not yet connected to my TV.  Here are some questions.
Are there any problems with doing this.  In particular, can I continue to use the Comcast router?
Also, I have seen some comments saying that the cable modem slowed down when AE was added.  Is that true?  Thanks,
    Owen

The stereo doesn't have wireless (or bluetooth).
My understanding is that the iPod Touch has a built-in airplay transmitter.
If so,  connecting the AE Base Station to my stereo would allow sending music from my iPod to my stereo.
    Is that correct?  Thanks.

  • Belkin n router vs. airport express

okay after jumping thru hoops i got my belkin n router and imac 17" to talk to each other, enternet works fine. but my airport express doenst extend my range.when i set it up for WDS it wont recognize the router or computer ***. will this enabler work and solve the problem? but i can use it for airtunes. is this weird to anyone? do you think the n enabler will correct this problem or am i crazy. help please cause i know the express is b and g only right.

Some non-Apple router's support WDS. Some do not.
However, if you only want the Express for iTunes, then you don't need WDS.

  • Mac not detecting signal from new Belkin N1 Router

Hi folks, my airport base station just "popped" yesterday and so I had to get a quick replacement here in Panama. Bought a Belkin N1 Router and I'm connected to it right now via ethernet so I know the modem is working fine and apparently the router is, too. I'm using the ethernet cable because my Titanium Powerbook (as well as my Toshiba notebook and iMac G5) aren't able to detect a signal from the router. I've spoken to three different Belkin people and they're pretty clueless as to why this is happening. I tried running the CD that came with the router but that isn't helping. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Raymond
    PB G4 Titanium   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hey guys, I got it working just fine. Now all three machines read it. Belkin has an email support page and I sent them a message detailing my issue. The next day one of their technicians sent me an email with instructions on how to get this working. Got it set up in 3 steps! I wish the manual had these instructions but it wasn't really a manual at all; just a card with small type on it.
FYI, here's what they told me:
To resolve the issue please follow the steps given below for configuring the router:
    - Connect the computer to the LAN port on the router and connect the modem to the Internet/WAN port, using Ethernet cables.
    - Take a paper clip, insert the paper clip on the reset hole of the router and then hold it for 15 seconds.
    - The power light will flash and then come back ON solid, indicating that the router is being restored to factory defaults.
    - The corresponding lights on the front of the router should be lit up.
    - On the computer, check if you have an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.x
    - If not, specify a static IP address, gateway and DNS by following the steps at
    http://web.belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=2824
    - Log on to the router web interface at http://192.168.2.1
    - By default, the password is blank.
    - Click on Connection Type in the left hand column under Internet WAN heading.
If the connection type is Dynamic (cable):
    - Click on Dynamic and then click on Next
    - Type in your “Hostname” if you’re Internet Service Provider has provided it. Else, leave it blank
    - Click on "Change WAN MAC Address".
    - Click on the button "Clone".
    - Click on Apply Changes
----at this point, the problem was solved----
If the connection type is PPPOE (DSL):
    - Click on PPPOE and click on Next.
    - Enter the user name and password given by your Internet Service Provider
    - Save the settings
    - Click on the Home link at the top of the screen
Internet Status should show Connected on the top right hand corner of the web page.
On the wireless, associate wireless following these steps:
-Open the wireless connection icon from the system tray
-Click on Advanced button and click on Wireless Networks tab.
-Remove all the networks under "Preferred Networks" and Click on `Refresh` under the Available Networks
-Select the available network and click on Apply or Ok
Then, check the IP address of the computer. For checking the IP address:
    - Click on start & click `Run`.
    - Type in cmd & click `ok`.
    - Type IPCONFIG and Enter. Check for IP address, subnet mask & Default Gateway.
    - The IP address should be in the range of 192.168.2.x (x=2 to 254)
    - If not, specify a static IP address, gateway and DNS by following the steps at http://web.belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=2824
    - In the command prompt type PING 192.168.2.1 & Enter. You should get replies.
    - Type, PING 4.2.2.2 & press Enter. Check if you are getting replies.
    - Try pinging yahoo by typing PING yahoo.com and Enter. You should get replies.
    - Then try connecting to internet.

  • Hook together chromebook, printer, router and cable modem

how do i hook up with cables to just the charter internet, and hp 3052a printer using a belkin 750 router and using hp chromebook 14 to type messages with?need to know what cables to hookup to printer, router and charter modem to get them all in sync.

    Hello bozza,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that you would like to learn how to setup your Deskjet 3052A printer so you can print from your Chromebook.
The cables we need before starting is to have everything powered on.  You also need to have an ethernet cable running from your modem to your router.   And that will be all the cables we need.
Your Chromebook requires any printer to be set up with HP ‘s ePrint feature or Google Cloud print.  Your Deskjet can do both but we first need to connect the printer to your wireless network.  I have included a link to a post by Jon-W that has the steps on how to do this.  Please start where he says “There is another alternative …”
Now that the printer is connected to your wireless network, let’s get the printer’s ePrint feature set up.  Please follow the steps in Getting the Printer Claim Code.  Once you have your web services information sheet please follow the instructions on Setting Up a Custom Email Address for ePrint.
Now that the printer has a customized ePrint email address please follow the steps in Using Google Cloud Print with your HP Printer  to get the printer set up with Google Cloud Print. I have also included the Print a Page document from Google for additional reference.
You should be able to print from your Chromebook to your Deskjet 3052A printer.

  • TS1453 Apple TV doesn't show up in my iTunes.  I've done all the troubleshooting steps, updated all software, restarted Apple TV, wireless router and computer. Devices doesn't show up at all in my sidebar.Apple TV doesn't show up in preferences

Help.  My Apple TV won't sync with my computer.  I've done all the troubleshooting tips, but Apple TV doesn't show up in my Preferences under devices.
    2. Reconnect Apple TV to iTunes.
Choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (Windows), click Apple TV, and make sure "Look for Apple TVs" is selected.
I see no option to select "look for Apple TV's" in Preferences, and there is no device list at all in my sidebar.
    3. If Firewall is on in Mac OS X (in the Sharing pane of System Preferences), make sure iTunes Music Sharing is selected.
There is no option to select iTunes Music Sharing in my System Preferences - see screenshot
I've updated all software, restarted Apple TV, my wireless router, and my computer.  Both my computer and the Apple TV are connected to the same wireless network and both are operating properly.  They just wont connect to each other.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

FIRSTLY: bookmark following for further reference (it describes basic setup, both to link for syncing and to stream - from any computer.)
Apple TV (1st generation): Differences between syncing and streaming" )
Now as to your problem: If you check under "Computers" in the "Settings" menu you will most likely see the name of your iTunes library Greyed out. IF that's the case, you'll basically need to re-setup your ATV., you can do so as follows (instructions are intentionally over described, but basically your disconnecting then reconnecting your ATV1. Downside (which seems to come with all methods is that you'll have to resync all your media)
**A (not ideal but effective solution)
If ATV 1 had been working but suddenly 'disappeared" from iTunes sidebar
The following solution will almost surely work  to regain your ability to Sync:
    QUIT iTunes
    Select "Computers" from "Settings" Menu.
Select your "greyed out" iTunes library.
This will bring up a window named "Disconnect from iTunes"
You're now given the choice to Cancel, or disconnect. WITH THE WARNING that if you disconnect any  content synced with iTunes, will be erased. (in fact it will be removed from your ATV but not your computer)
Assuming ALL of your media IS on your computer, Go ahead and disconnect.
Follow instructions in the Apple doc above about setting up your ATV as a paired computer.
After you ATV gen1 reappears in the sidebar. Reset all your desired syncing preferences,
    Begin syncing.
All will be fine again, (at least till the next time this occurs.) I've had to do this twice this year.
    ALTERNATELY:
SHARING (a QUICKER, less destructive TEMPORARY solution (if you just want to play your media now)
You CAN set your computer to Share by following instructions in the same doc under the heading:
"How to connect to a shared computer"
HOWEVER, this will not allow you to sync info.
I've read alternate solutions on this board, one involved changing the name of your iTunes Library etc... you may wish to try this first (if it applies) https://discussions.apple.com/message/17943841?ac_cid=142432#17943841
What I'd like to know: What causes this problem...  I'm suspecting iTunes updates, or any iTunes database issues or crashes. Or maybe too many visitors connecting to your other Apple devices (ATV 2 for example) or heck the weather in Guatemala...

Yes it will work just fine. I sell and set them up quite a bit with both PC's and Macs.
All N routers at the moment are all based on draft N protocol, even Apple's own Airport routers. So the Belkin N+ will work at N speeds if you set it to N mode only. Ofcourse for broad compatibility with all sorts of WiFi devices it is best to leave it in mixed mode.
For some background, i have used all sorts of makes of routers from Compaq/TrendNet (favourite)/Microsoft/Netgear (current favourite)/Dlink...and so on over the years, NOT any issues.
Apple's Airport extreme base stations (which are still draft N) aren't any more compatible than a Netgear or Belkin N router.
